How To Hurt Gold-Farmers

And bots.
And gold-spammers.

Its simple. Once every 8 hours, restart all the servers.
It wont remove them, but I can just imagine the irritation of all the botters that have to restart all their programs and get them going again. >.>
I think their little programs just spam login attempts till they ... login
so nah, you wont be doing any dmg to them
Nah.. just ban accounts according to reppeated IPs. :P
I dunno... I would get frustrated if I had to restart everything every few hours.
They don't have to restart every few hours, their programs take care of that automatically, they even auto regroup in their parties and carry on as if nothing happened.
Again it would hurt more real players. Gratz.
And IPs are a dead horse. Don't touch it.
ncsoft already has a solution to bots, but they would lose most of their revenue.

How come?

They just needed a script, to find out what accounts were using that IP.. and wham.. Ban those accounts. Not ban the IP.

It's a simple line...

No it's not that simple. Many are playing from internet caffès, what would happen if one person out of maybe 100 players is botting and gets banned? With your sugestion the other 99 legit players will get banned to as they play thru the same IP.
IPs can be spoofed. Also many people are still not on static IPs which means your ISP can give you one IP today and tomorrow another. If you ban by IP you could end up banning an entire region of users on a single ISP.

Also an 8 hour restart would make me sad. My sale shop would go down while I am at work. :(
That will be a huge blow to those who do afk shops and it's annoying to the Devs and the players so restart every 8 hours
Ya thats not a good idea for sure, again this would hurt the reg player base more then those bots.
So no good :(

I dont want to have my afk shops dc-ing every day, im happy when i can stay logged in for a full day without any dcing, i dont need an actual dc shutdown on top of that...

Cheers!!
if you read a bit some related forums, you can easily find that some of dark side software has options for automated re-login and re-group to keep going. :(

but I can just imagine the irritation of all the Players

A better idea to the question you posed is to.

Just not buy! :)

Am i the only one thinking this game would lose ppl if they were not able to buy gold anymore? I'm not high enough for it to be an issue but my clannies talked to me about it.
Nay, if anything maybe it would force people from being so greedy and jacking up item prices.

I think anything being sold in the millions and billions of adena is just nuts.

I think this game lose players instead of growing because of bots and cheaters.

Agreed Washtak. This game lost a lot of players right at the start because they couldn't possibly compete with those who bought gold and the bots who took over hunting grounds. Also the general attitude of some people doesn't help subscriptions. The types who ruin it for others by their general attitudes of being able to get away with all sorts of behaviours because bots seem to. It's one of the main reasons I've drifted in and out of subbing since the game came out of beta.

I absolutely love Lineage2, it's one of the most interesting games I've ever played but for me bots and adena buyers is a major issue.
One solution to minimize bots would be for NC to sell adena.

It would seem that they are going that way in some of their other games anyways.

The game is losing way too many people that aren't interested in pee-wee-pee against botted toons with ebayed stuff.

That would be stupid. You already pay for the game, they should just increase the adena drops before attempting to gouge players for more cash. And if NC does add that kinda of 'cash shop' to the game, I can realisticlly predict a big drop in subscribers. And incidentally if they increase the drops, more people will stick around without feeling like they 'have' to cheat to play the game.
Stupid or not they are introducing it in other NC games. There was a whole article i read..don't remember where.

I don't disagree with what you say..its just as long as their is ****** there will be people that will buy (and people that that will sell) to give themselves an unfair advantage.

I would gladly pay an extra 25% to have NC prevent botting. and yes they would have to change the drop rates. I mean really with the drop rate of some items can only be accessed by bots...the drop rates imo are inhuman....but we have been all through this before....ad nausea :)

They would have to increase drop rates if they removed all the RMT or this game would be over. As it is now most items you will outlvl before you ever get enough items to make it. Without the RMT like it or not there would be little if any armor/weps for sale and what is for sell would be alot more than it is now.

I don't care what the official word is from NcSoft but I know drop rates have steadily gotten worse since I started this game in C2. As the RMT problem has grown the drop rates have worsened. RMT wouldn't be so bad if you could realisticly expect to hunt the materials you need to craft something in your lvl range or just a bit lower.
How to fight Gold Farmers? Switch to a FFA PVP server on AoC, you can kill them all you want. And Funcom actually bans them(they banned people from open beta for even joking about selling ^^).

NCSoft wont do anything as long as you people continue paying them.

That's because it's expected to be mostly a clan-based economy.

Perhaps....but there is an old saying regarding a horse and water that applies quite well to that situation. One which only gets better when you realize that the devs keep screwing with the water...
Professional gold farmers have moved to other, currently more popular games. It's real players now who turn the game into a real life business, farming gold and botting freely.
^^ Sorry don't mean to be rude but I have to call BS on that one. When all the adena-selling PMs stop and the major sellers remove Lineage 2 from their websites THEN I'll believe that the gold farmers are gone.
Maybe not all, but most of them have moved. Does the idea of players doing that sound so shocking to you? After all these years we should know better.

*Clarification: In case it wasn't obvious, I meant some players do that, not *all* of us. As in the phrase "some players use/used to work with farmers". Does that make more sense to you?

Remember, they do it very well in Korea.

And it's not that Korean players are much different. NC Korea just managed to have virtually no bots there (which was much easier than in NA due to a combination of technical and legal factors).

In No way can you compare Korean L2 to NA L2. You may think there isn't much difference but there is. I forgot where it's posted that L2 economy and drop rate are clan based. Can you show me the official link.
Hmm... can you show me the official link that NC NA support sucks?

Well I think we have a different definition of what a gold farmer is, or perhaps due to changes in the adena/gold farming business the definition itself has changed.

I know these days most adena "farmers" are individuals who then sell adena to the major "sellers" but I think that is more of a marketing strategy. It is just better business for the adena sellers to sit around as middle men and let the players take the account ban hits and do the leg work. So in reality those individual players *are* still professional farmers, they just work as independent agents instead of employees of a selling company.

So yeah.. I would say the farmers are still here. ;)
