Hello to everyone i hope i don't bother anyone with my noob questions that most of you probably have answer more than 1 gazillion of times. to my questions now since i am very confused tho i seem to understand the game mechanics.

I Just started the game and i was looking at the clasess and races so i figured that i wanted a spell caster (direct damage solo class if possible) and i ended between Dark elf and Elf which one is better? and why? :)

Is easier to start as a caster class or a melee class and what race ? :)

Put in mind i got no adena or friends to borrow me cash, and i like to achive my goals without begging or asking people to help me in game.

I hope i didn't gave you headache with my silly questions thank you all :)
Both spellhowler (darkelf) and spellsinger (elf) are good classes. Caster classes lvl up faster than melee.
The only thing you need to do is to buy another account and make a Shillen Elder buff pet.
Thanks for the reply but i just got a new question since i lvled my char to lvl 12 how do i solve the huge mana sit downs?
Buy another account and make a Shilen Elder, they can recharge ur mp.
This is not a solo game. Those advices of a buffpet are ******ed.
SH has body to mind to get mp back, and over all, there are places where mobs drop herbs so you should never be sitting.

If you want to be able to solo, see the summoner classes. It's a lot less direct damage.
And if you insist for a SH or SpS, make friends to buff you and recharge you at higher level and it's ok.

Buy another account and make a Shilen Elder, they can recharge ur mp.

but not until level 30

honestly, wth man youre giving this guy a HORRIBLE end game class AND telling him to make a buffpet.

you need to be taken out and shot.

Original Poster:

YES caster classes level faster and YES the Shilen elder will help your mana BUT not for a while yet.

i much rather suggest you DONT take the shilen elder, and keep playing your darkelf wizard. look on your server for a guild, any one will do, but look particularly for friends with similar play times as you. these players will more than likely help you level faster, easier, cheaper, and offer you more assistance in your particular financial or Character endeavours than any person here ever could.

in my experience, levelling a Darkelf wizard through level 40 into the Spellhowler class takes some getting used to. in this game up until level 40 youll have basically 1 key to mash, with some emergency skills, and some nice other skills; keep hitting "twister" (a level 20 skill) to kill things with, if mobs get too close, hit aura burn. remember to use Body To Mind ( a level 25 skill) to convert your HP into MP, use elixers (not potions) of health or mana whenever required, and try to hunt in places that drop those Herbs you have no doubt already encountered - they dont drop everywhere.

make friends with healers if you find them around. particularly darkelf healer types - Silen Oracles after level 20, and commonly referred to as Shilen Elders after level 40.

this game is a timesink, so i do wish you luck.

It's just my way of playing this game. Ofc you can party with a friend to get buff/recharge if u prefer that way.

Ok, sps and sh are horrible at end game. im outta here.

For Spudnik, end game is 60ish maybe :p
I can see why you made the reply Washtak but what about playing at level 78 is going to help this new person? 1/2 the people there didn't even PLAY the first 60 levels of their character.

To OP:
I'd say if you want to play SH then do it. 1-40 isn't too bad and you don't need a buffpet for a long time. Heck, you might change classes before even hitting 40 since you're new to the game.

Spud's advice about what to do was spot-on. CHOOSE THE RIGHT MOBS! Their names will probably appear green to you. This + maneuver is the most important thing you can learn early on.
Mobs that you 1 shot that also drop elixers will work best (and be cheapest).
You have to absolutely do the newbie quests for free shots and use the newbie buffs.
You will get from 1-30 pretty quickly.

Have fun, enjoy the game, take your time, and be nice to the players you meet a bit later on. It will go fine.

I personally think the melee classes are easier to start with and easier to manor with (which can be good depending upon your server) but to start out--go ahead and play what you think you'll like.

1/2 the people there didn't even PLAY the first 60 levels of their character.

if you had said the first 78-80 lvls I would had said "QFT" :p

it's always fun to beat players that are 10 lvls higher than you and better equiped just because they don't have a clue how to play the class...
Thank you all for your replies i am now a 14 lvl SH wannabe and raising slowly :)

use elixers (not potions) of health or mana whenever required?

(takes Crossbow out) Now what was that you said we should do when some one gives bad advice?

maderos what server your on sweetie?
This is a good time to try out several of the classes. With the Event weapons that you get for free at lvl 6, the armor quest in Kamael Village and the fact that you have 7 character slots, you can try out the ones you think you might like and then make your decision. We all have our favorite classes that we play. I play a dwarf. I wouldnt recommend it unless you have the intestinal fortitude of a saint. Others play nukers, others prefer the hand to hand of human fighters. It is truly ALL up to you.

Weldome to L2.

What server are you playing on?
Stick with the SH. I started with an elf, and played it all the way to a grade, so I've been on both sides, but I can honestly say that the SH/StS is one of the most ridiculously powerful classes out there (not to mention a ton of fun.)

A couple of pieces of free advice.
1) a SHillien Elder (Either a friend or your own 2nd account) can be your best friend. Empower for massive Matk boosts, Wild Magic for lots of spell crits, and Recharge to keep your mana up will make for an awesome 2 man team that can duo all the way to the end of the game effectively.

2)DON'T STOP! There will be slow levels, there will be dfficult levels, there will be times in your career that you feel weaker than other characters, but don't give up on the SH as a class. Trust me, once you hit your 70's it's all about "who hurts the most?" and trust me, most of the time it'll be you.

3)Do some math - Grind efficiently: Around level 20 you'll see people start heading for catacombs and necropli. Stay out of them. Nukers can't do that effectively without a group containing one or two melees on top of any buffers that may be there. Larger groups defeat one of the ebst parts of being a SH (The fact that you can solo all the way to S-Grade if you want.) Pick a nice spot where you can (at most) 2 shot the mobs, figure out how much it costs you to kill each one, and make sure they're dropping - on average - at least that much.

4) Stay out of PvP or clans with a lot of wars until your late levels. It may not seem like "fun" advice, but you'll level faster, with less hassle, and then you can PvP your brains out (And actually WIN).

Last, find someone who has played the class to high levels to answer your questions and help you along. It's not a tough class to figure out, but you don't want to do things that will make you learn lessons the hard way, so better safe than sorry. I don't know what server you're on, but if you are on (or decide to roll over to) Hindemith, give me a shout and I'd be more than happy to help you with anything you may need help with.

P.S. - I don't post on the boards much, but if you come here looking for class help ont he SH, Sovrath would be the one to ask for, imo. Helped me out a ton, then he let me outlevel him. ;)

I have to say, I love my class, and if I had to do it over again I would do it over again.

I like seeing large swaths of damage due to my efforts and I like that we are good enough in pvp so as to not be ingored.

he is welcome to ignore those potions if he deems them too expensive. it doesnt hinder levelling to spend money, and it always best to err on the side of caution. elixers are great for emergency backup, and eventually he will get to the point where he can afford them.

but again, how does being poor affect the company of a friend (as i mentioned) ? making friends to help the levelling means earning cash without really NEEDING to buy elixers.

I personally think the melee classes are easier to start with and easier to manor with (which can be good depending upon your server)

This is very solid and should not be ovrlooked. For a new player quests and mannoring are the way.
Somehow you have to be able to make Adenz to afford shots, equipment etc.
Even at level 18 you can start to seed for varnish (kind of a staple).
Sure a SH levels fast but it isn't cheap.
I would think more about how to earn Adenz as opposed to levelling fast.
L2 is very Adena dependant. If you have the adena to equip yourself..... levelling is not a problem.

The only thing you need to do is to buy another account and make a Shillen Elder buff pet.

You Need ?

your not helping bring back Live Support with that comment ya know.

Go SpellHower for better Solo, pve.
Go SpellSinger for better pvp.

ohh....and try to find and make friends with a live healer/buffer 1st before diving into the
"I Gotta 2Box in this game." attitude that alot of people have adopted. :(

Sadly, im one of them. I am so busy at school that i want to be able to get as much exp as possible in my limited free time. and 2boxing allows me to spend every free minute exp instead of having to ask for party. You may be different tho.
What is a class that can be grouped from beginning (lvl 20) to end; the class that is welcome in any party? Perhaps the OP should try that class?
There is no such class in L2, I'm afraid. The closest one would be a Destroyer. Then BD. Then WC (for the gross amount of the groups available) or EE (for the highest diversity of the group types).

Not a single one of these classes is a "direct damage solo spellcaster" (well, EE can be played as one, but it's a kind of perversion. If you want to play a nuker, roll a nuker).
Some other thoughts...

While you hunt - set your character to walk.
It will take a bit longer to get between mobs, and you can regen while you walk. Later on, you will get a skill that allows to regen faster while you walk, so might as well start now.

Consider also where you hunt.
Kill stuff that you can take out in 2 casts, or so.
It may mean you're hunting green mobs, but the idea is to be efficient. EXP over time is better this way.

Those advices of a buffpet are ******ed.

its not ******ed advice.

your just a buff-pet hater.

there is nothing wrong with making friends, but having a buff pet is not ******ed!

and I'd advice a elven elder over a shilen elder. as your main will be a nuker, you'd want to use a one-handed weapon + shield.

An EE can do better defensive buffs then a SE, and empower you can buy in a pot...so that is a none issue. EE has major heals, recharge, and prophecy of water; which is the mage prophecy.
umm.. what>?

empower in a pot?

not likely.

umm.. what>?

not likely.

...Magic Power Juice. (Or the Fruit Cocktails...just have to buy the sacks for it...)

Granted it's a event item only, not one you can buy normally in game, but there are still a fair amount of them out there. Same for L2 Empower Scrolls.

Granted both are usually sold at strongly inflated price...but you should still see them sold in Giran for some time yet.
hint : NEW PLAYER IS BEING TOLD TO BUY EMPOWER SCROLLS

just lol

this noob is better off without forum influences.
Well, I never said it would be cheap, nor advisable...but they DO exist.

Well, I never said it would be cheap, nor advisable...but they DO exist.

in understandably limited quantities.

i can picture the Giran shouting now:

"WTB Empower scrolls"

48 hrs later "WTB EMPOWER SCROLLS PAYING 45m each"

and still no reply.

you want Empower? FIND A LIVE SE.

umm.. what>?

empower in a pot?

not likely.

God **** it sud do you even play L2?
Or do you pay $15 a month to mouth off at those that actually play?

L2 is not hard to make money, and you can now buy C grade in npc shop, karmian set's for less 800k (top, bottom, gloves).
20-46 easily in a cata with summon out/small groups.

SE doesn't have any benefit above a EE for a nuker. Then when the SE gets to 78 they get a prophecy which is only good for daggers, while the EE at 78 gets a prophecy thats only good for mages (nukers mostly).

do you really think that having a buffed empower > pot empower? when you could get shield buffs, clarity, stun resist, recharge, good heals, decrease weight; so you can carry more things at any given time. Oh don't forget that a EE runs faster then a SE, cast way faster.

EE for a nuker is far superior then a SE.

Waw, you have to admit that making friend may be a possiblity?

Again, and more precisely because apparently you may have not understood what I was saying, giving the advice to take a buffpet to a lvl 12 noob is :
- shooting your own feet
- giving a bad picture of the game (knowing it's easily avoidable)
- ******ed

Now that said, you do whatever you want alone in this game, ignoring the social part. It's really graceful that you accept that social aspect is ok in a MMOG. Thank you. But don't you find that using a forum is kinda paradoxical?

When I was a cleric, I once grouped with some guy in Cruma Marshland (not the best place for groups). He asked me what I wanted to become. I said Bishop. He told me I should go PP and use it to buff a DD on another account. Is it smart?
This guy won the privilege to be my first ignore list member.

lol your whole buff pet is bad is really annoying.

I'd rather tell them straight up: if you want to XP effectively you'll want your own buff pet.

Or else u'll get bored fast waiting for a buffer to log in, or a clanie that has a buffer. I've seen people quit L2 cause they can't XP cause they don't have a buffer, and can't wait for others to be on when they are.

its about convince.

While you keep on preaching that buff pets are bad, I'll keep telling people the truth. YOU CAN NOT XP IN l2 WITH OUT BUFFS.

and PP's are lame...++ bishops ftw!
what class do you play really? a glad? a dagger? lol. if you interested in play the game (not in sitting all day long in giran) you will obviously pick SE as 2nd char. you need to level it to 74 (or to 76 if you want enchant recharge and learn arcane protection). up to these levels (with extra addition of IoP) SE is very great, and you are able to exp without clarity and an extra recharger. anyway if you want live EE for harder place, you can find it whenever you want. i can't get why does the one need EE as a 2nd toon? i rather save my money and will have standard SE buffs set than wasting a lot of money for emp scrolls without notable difference in heals/recharger...

his advices tend to get himbanned. he IS nolerahl afterall.

that infmaous quote got you banned once, dont think we wont hold it over your head forever.

"My advice: Ebay back your gear" - Nolerahl aka Matsumoto.
lol I love how you keep saying that.

if it wasn't true then I wouldn't of said it.

Back in those days L2 was a different game, where going red means you can lose your weapon, when dieing in combat meant there is a chance to lose gear on death. However, you all totally missed the part where I said I don't advocate doing so, it was merely a suggestion.

I, as well as you have no right to tell any one what they should or shouldn't do.

L2 has drastically changed to be much much more carebear.

Quite frankly if you lose gear back then the fastest easiest way to get it back is to buy adena. So while they where coming here complaining their butts off, I meanly suggested what many think, yet are unwilling to say (which is why bl.ah > L2, freedom of speech!).

so keep on quoting me, I don't care what you say troll. And stop calling me nolerahl, that name is dead in L2, only you care about it. And no you dumb ***** that quote never had any repercussions, what got that acc banned was; my CC info changed.
bleh. where the Uber players go to openly tell people why they should cheat.

do you hear yourself lately?
