Vault Poll - Fortresses

General Discussion Started Last reply 30 posts
Here are the results from last week's poll!

Question:
What is your favorite pet? (all forms apply)

Choices:
Option 01: Wolf [43 votes]
Option 02: Dragon [36 votes]
Option 03: Cougar [14 votes]
Option 04: Kookaburra [6 votes]
Option 05: Buffalo [6 votes]

It seems that the higher patk and new updates in the wolf's evolution has made it the most popular pet there is... followed closely by the ancient dragon with the "baby triplet" following behind.

MY choice was a Dragon -- hey, even if you have to be a leader to fly on a wyvern that's freaking awesome that you can. Of course... I've heard it crashes easy... and you certainly don't see many of the leaders out there using wyverns despite there are more people who actually can than ever before (what with fortress-owners being able to now as well).

This week we're moving on to fortresses: I recently re-joined a clan and participated in a large fortress siege, giving me an opportunity to witness how the power is turned off by a Warsmith... oh and a Dwarven Flamethrower (http://vnmedia.ign.com/screenshots/l2/17539822.jpg)

The Hellbound change in Fortresses means clans have to be much more active if they want to keep their pressure homes around the world. It's still a deal compared to the enormous bidding prices of Clan halls, usually between 1,500,000,000 adena and 2,000,000,000, but it can be difficult to handle with smaller clans. Nevertheless, at least on Devianne, there are always a handful of untaken fortresses.

So has YOUR clan bothered to siege a fortress? Have they bothered to take its awesome benefits?

We want to know how many people fortress siege! Let us know by voting in the poll to the right of the L2 Vault main page (http://l2vault.ign.com/) and respond to this post!
ATM, so far the clan i reside in currently on seighardt.. seems to be the only one consistantly trying to go for a fortresse..

But it is irritating how every 3 days you lose it..

1 week would be minimum imo, 2 weeks max...
i consider the 500-2000 epaulettes to be too high cost for a "small" clan to take and use effectively. maybe 1 clan member can have maybe 1 item after MANY attempts at farming them by merely attacking guards.

nono, too expensive imo.
I have enjoyed two fortress seiges so far in the clan my alt is in.It was a lot of fun, ranged and melee both have important roles to play, open to all classes since it took us all(about 20) to take down the Captian of the guards. The knight epaulette are cool reward, but ya you need ton just to get any thing cool and can only have while you own fort.Over all, they are fun, looking forward to trying out the dungeon raidboss sometime.
Something I didn't know before today:

You can kill your own soldiers in a fortress siege as long as you get like an alt clan to declare war on your fortress.

So get a good party and farm away for an hour :)

We got 584 epaulettes total, my share since I came later was 84, the others got 100 each.
Hm. This is interesting.

However, I will join in support of those who say that three days is not long enough. Two weeks is too long, however, so I would settle for one week (7 days), personally.

It gives a chance for everyone to enjoy it that can't be on all the time for those 72 hours.
Well originally they were meant to be '24hr available pvp', now with 3 day thing they are no more than pure npc smack, so they kinda messed/changed completely from original idea.

Anyways, if they gunna have a time limit, yes it should be more like 2-4 weeks not 3 days. Nevermind...
I agree the 3 day/74 hour thing is silly - should be more like a week, at least that way you get really get some use out of it.
I agree the 3 day thing is anoying but what would make it more fair?

Instead of the "auto loss" that now occurs every 75 horus have a "Rebel Army" come and attack the fort instead.

That way if you are on you get the chance to defend (and gain the eppulettes). If you are not on then u lose it but to a fight....

That seems fair IMO. The "auto loss" is just the easy way out for NC Soft. They have had events that are similar to the rampage as I recall. They just don't wan to make the effort.
ok there. get real.

imagine if you can - a clan full of 79's, and 80's. takes a fort. the rebel army WIPES those players for 2%

good fight?

loose the fort via messages is probably the best solution.

I don't think i will never have a use for them again.

Our clan has been farming Eps for god... pretty well since they came out ^^ with activated seige on the fortress by alt clan i can walk in with my paladin and kill every regular guard easily in 1 hr solo and walk out with 100 eps atleast thats without activating the respawn guards around the capatain. But i do agree a week would be best 3 days is way to little

I actually really like that idea; though implemented it most likely wouldn't be a much of a challenge for the top levels (just as CAPTURING the fortress from NPCs is), it would be enough to be fair and it would be a hell of a lot more exciting than simply suddenly losing it.... and keeps the ability to farm epaulettes that you'd have by retaking the fortress from the beginning.

There are technical issues (active NPCs that seem like they have a brain, omg!) but I'm sure they could be worked out :P
Yeah, fortresses are utterly useless to me now.
Shame, because it was such a cool feature.
no no the forts are not useless, just a little lame.. kinda like how NC runs things....

:)
If the clan took the fort and owns it, they could use siege charms.....

And because they'd be automatically signed to defend.....

They'd take a siege death and clan luck would apply to it.....
During fortress siege if you use Charm of Courage it s 0% xp loss when dying.
And even if you forgot to use Charm of Courage you still got the brez siege wich cost 50k at the Suspicious Merchant (work only for defender)

So for a defender losing xp during siege it has to be on purpose ;)

you make me laugh

group of 70s in A grade will take a fort in short time (less than 30 minutes - actualy they can do it in 20 minut + 5 minutes to raise flag), so why should "rebel army" have put down group of S-graders? :)

You only have 10 minutes from the 1st camp is taken to take out rest of the camps so taking a fort in 20min or less is normal unless you kill all the guards to get epaulets first and take out the balistas for extra rep points.
not talking about TAKING the fort. i clearly said this group TAKES the fort. the people here were trying to say how they would LOVE a "rebel army" to come fight them to loose the fort.

given NC put it in the notes that clans would be "forced out" of the fort and automatically loose, this MUST mean the lvl 80's that would stay to defend and knowingly loose the fort would automatically die.

so lvl 80 players loose 1% on death considering no regained exp from res, ch, clanskills. lets just say.

WHY would people VOLUNTEER to defend against this "rebel army" ?

i would rather think these people would prefer to loose forts via messages and NOT take death.

ty for understanding.

Just in case you did not know - if you do not own a fort the SOE to Fort work just like a normal SOE.
But you're assuming its a definite end result -- that they would make it so that the Rebel Army couldn't lose. In that case I would definitely agree -- then its just a thematic death that would be nice a fun if you didn't lose precious experience and such..... But I'm seeing it implemented with the Rebel Army being clearly beatable; just as strong/weak as the NPCs are when attacking the fortresses -- or slightly stronger to make it fair. Either way you could still decide to not defend the fortress and lose it the normal way... or if you're confident you could defend it.
I also agree that 3 days is too little to make the fortresses worth the effort. One week seems to be a more reasonable time.
since when can one group of 70's take a fort? Did they make forts easier in CT1.5?
You got to remember when they say group of 70's they are talking about the perfect setup party of 75+ with +6 armor, bright weps and every end game buff available.

Not a thrown together ragtag group of friends 70-75's with average poor mans junk and buffs :)

yup, taking a fort is prety easy.
only one hard point is that commander in heavy with group of stunning guards, others are piece of cake ;o))

you should just tried it.

with group of s-graders i think, you can get fort in 20 minutes including raising flag (raising flag takes around 3 minutes, or so, i think, it has fixed time)
Have to agree. Forts can and are taken with one group.

Just take out the tank boss first. Timer gets set. Archer, General, and mage bosses are easy.

Christmas, Gustin had one party recently take out Baium.

A fortress? Easy.
ummm we tried it with multiple 70+ parties in CT1 before hellbound expansion and it was not easy at all had 5 parties and couldnt take out the tank boss because only had a handful of sgraders.

we have taken down fort in 2 and half group of level 50-62 before update. (actually my sb was 46 and most time missed, but still deathmark is usefull, when lands ;o))) and one and half group of the same people (there were less lower levels this time), after update.

and i think, they have weakened fort defense, at least mage commander, doesn't seem to cast aoe after update (when we was siegein fort before update, he cast 5 times aoe, before he died, and always he hit around 4-5k to maje jewelry).

actualy much more people has gained 60+ and we are able to siege fort in one group.

and i tell you a secret, we have add support 3 GWs with top EQ. it's good that after update, our OL buffs them also.

and of course, it's matter of tactic, our first siege on fort, when there were 4 groups in total (45-62), ended in loss due time. now it takes up to 30 minutes in one group to take little fort (3 posts), and two groups to take large fort (4 post + powercenter)
