A few Prophet questions. (Copied from HM forum)

(I made this thread earlier on the Human Mystic forum, but after realizing how dead it was, I thought it'd be better to post it here :p. If this is in violation or anything, however, feel free to delete it.)

Well, I've finally decided to go back with Lionna, and although I had been planning on going with a TK as my main, I've been thinking of going with a PP instead.

The way I see it, they seem to be one of those classes that are a bit underrated. I've actually even had a chance to mess around with a level 78 on an old friends account awhile back, and with that nice buff that they get at level 78 (I forget the name) and a set of spiffy duals, he could solo mobs much better than I would have expected.

The thing is, all I ever hear about when people speak of prophets is how weak and useless they are in pvp. Are they really THAT bad? I mean, they get a bunch of nice utility spells (sleep, root, mana burn, etc), tons of great buffs (which seem nice for the more independant minded), heavy armor masteries, and let's not forget about the battle heal, which although weak, can certainly keep you alive in a pinch.

So my main question: Why is it that a prophet seems to get a much harsher wrap than a SWS or TK does, for example? And I don't mean that in a buffing sense, but in a "which is more helpful in melee combat" sense. Is it because the basic stats of a fighter are higher, or maybe because they have better weapon masteries? I just can't figure it out. From what I can remember when playing my friend's pp, they can really tear stuff up if given the right setup. I couldn't believe the attack speed lol.

It seems to me, that if you took the plunge and decided to play a PP as your main, you'd have a pretty decent time later on if you were good at using everything they have at their disposal - At least, on par with a SWS or TK anyway.

Anyway, I was hoping maybe some of you veteran Prophet's could give me some advice, and maybe share some of the reasons you enjoy playing your PP; in both pve and pvp.

The sound of a battle prophet sounds pretty nice to me :).
Dont go prophet.
Its useless and weak class (except for buffpets) as you heard already.
You can solo on pp...but you can solo on any class, speed and effectivness is the question.
Sleep is cleric lowlvl skill, doesnt land.
Root doesnt land in most pvp unless you are higher lvl, better geared.
Manaburn...well, it has its use.
Blocks are useless since new combo buffs cant be blocked.
Spell turning is useless.
Word of fear is useless.
MI has very limited use.
Heavy masteries are useless outside oly.
DPS of prophet is worthless.
What we were good at, ressists buffs and single target buffing saving buffslots, doesnt matter anymore cuz resssits are pretty much useless and WC saves move buffslots w/ combobuffs than PP can save w/ single target buffing. Nvm cov, cop, cop, party summon etc.

So my main question: Why is it that a prophet seems to get a much harsher wrap than a SWS or TK does, for example?

Higher level SwS is quite useful in archer groups and has no meaningful replacement there. Most PP buffs can be provided by Warcryers or by lowbie PP buffpets.

TK is getting a DD transformation in CT2, PP gets nothing good enough to compare.

They have better weapon masteries, they have better basic stats, and they don't need to sit to regen their MP till the next buff round. Maybe the CT2 vampiric MP buff will help PPs a bit, though.

Arrg, so it really is that bad huh? :(

Honestly, even with all the cons, they still seem like one of the more interesting classes, and one of the most self-reliant.

I had a few other questions btw: Why is heavy armor useless for them outside of Oly? I would think it'd be the best thing to use in mass pvp for protection. Since I don't plan to be anyone's buffbot, I had intended to mainly use heavy once I got farther in the game.

And also, is there DPS really that bad compared to a TK or SWS? Even with the right gear? I figured that warrior buff you guys get at 78 somewhat made up for the masteries and basic stats.

Lastly, since you seem to be pretty unpleased with the class, what is it that makes you stick with it? Do you actually still enjoy it somewhat or is it merely because of all the time you've put into the character?

O_O!!! No kidding?! TK's are getting a DD transformation in the next update? What are the specifics behind that? Do you possibly have a link to the info?

Nice to hear that TK's are getting some love :).
I think Levitra would disagree about the DPS comment about prophet/hierophant.

I still think its a decent class with good buffs, but since I sometimes quad-box, WC is more favorable.
Heavy armor masteries are useless in PvP because they resrtict your mana pool and destroy your casting speed. The fact that you wear heavy armor will not stop any DD class to kill you in few hits (something like 2-6). Also, you will cast too slow to land any debuff.
In PvE you will find it hard to get a party since there are so many boxed prophets. If you try to solo, you will see that having Pdef means nothing if you can't kill fast enough. You have very low STR modifier and no aggresive skills. That way you may find yourself overun by the mob respawn rate.

Well, for a link, you know that site...

All 4 tanks get a DD transformation in CT2 (designed for 2-handed weapons, so they lose their shield bonuses when they play DDs), and Bishop/EE/SE get a nuker transformation. As far as I heard from ppl playing Korean L2, the transformation takes about 10 seconds and has no reuse time. You cannot use the active skills and toggles of your class while transformed (you can transform back, rebuff, call the cubics and transform again, though). You passives and stat modifiers (dyes, armor set bonuses) should still apply when you are transformed.

While PP gets just another buff...
Dont play pp unless ncsoft builds a timemachine and takes us all back to c2 and decides not to make this game buffpet friendly

As someone said already, heavy armor gimps your casting speed, mp pool. And what will you do in heavy armor, DDing ppl, you will do close to no dmg if you will not miss anyway because evasion > pp. And nukers (which are the fotm atm) will kill you no matter what armor you have and archers/heavy dds will need not that many more hits to kill you, and why even bother to kill you, not like you are threat to anyone, any bd/sws can res too which is the only thing pp can do in mass pvp i guess.

DPS, just use l2calc and figure it out. I guess -str tank w/o pof will not do much more dmg than +str pp w/ pof. But anyone else will do 3-4 times more dmg easily.

I am unpleasant w/ my class because its just facts how gimp and useless we are atm (except buffpeting). But I still like that class, I dont play to own and I have enough friends to get pvp and pve groups when I want, nvm my 78/78 warlock/bishop pet which makes me wanted in groups more cuz i can offer my pet.

Smittie, its not matter of agreeing or disagreeing, its matter of numbers. PP DPS is VERY low, and any nuker can have the same DPS w/ melee weapon as PP. Check L2calc or use common logic.
i do agree with alot of what nya says. we do low dmg compared to other classes. an really at our lvl if we solo iop is best place for that i can kill pretty fast there with my buffs but u also have to figure into that gear+lvl+jewls ect. an truelly not many like to punish themselfs with solo xp.but in my own mind i like to think i do the dmg of a titan in frenzy! even tho it takes me a few mins to kill a mob i like to think i did it in 1 shot instead of 1 million hits.
if you are starting a new toon, want to get grps in clan /ally ect. go warcryer until the developmental team wants to give us something worth while in the end game levels

Yea, IoP soloing works, but its only for PP lovers like you, me, few last PPs who didnt left their class yet. But for everyone else I advice to reroll or not rolL PP cuz its kinda dead class.
Well, it certainly looks like I should steer clear from a PP then. You all know much more about how the class works than I do, so I'll take your advice to heart. It really is a shame though; it sounded like a really interesting class =/. Hopefully, NCsoft will do something to give them a boost one of these days.

I will say that I'm impressed that all of you have decided to stick with the class despite it's shortcomings. That's a sign of true dedication, and it's something you don't see very often :).

I guess, for me, I'll stick with my original plan and go with a TK. I know it's considered the most gimp tank in terms of pvp, but I like playing the underdog. Plus, I just have a thing for Elven lore :P. Also, that DD tansformation sounds really interesting. I hope it's as worthwhile as it sounds.

As for the warcryer, I'm actually planning on subbing it with my TK when that day finally comes. I really like the sound of the class, since they seem to be close to a hybrid/buffer, but since I'm not a big fan of Orcs, I'll just have to wait. Heck, at least I have some extra incentive to go all the way :).

Oh, and one other thing - I hate to sound like a newb, but I'm not sure which site you were referring to Krissa. I'm guessing NCKorea?

Thanks for all the advice everyone :). At least this makes my class decision much easier.
