Hello, I'm coming back after a long break and I'd like to know. What is the class that has the cheapest upkeep? I don't plan on using Soulshots or Spiritshots, and since I don't have air conditioning, having my computer on all night with a store is out of the question.
I basically want a class with the least amount of money sinks so I can focus on upgrading gear and stuff for PvE. Any suggestions?
If you arent going to use shots, they are all cheap, except classes that need consumables for summons or arows etc. What you need is a char that -can- kill mobs. Everything from orc fighters and human tanks to elven mages and dark elf daggers.
At one point or another you'll have to set shops to make adena. Just hunting seems never enough to give you the adena needing for gear and weapon upgrades. Unless you join a clan and they help you.
Don't forget to use your coupons for shadow weapons. They will save you a lot up to C grade. If you are not the type who wants the top grade weapon once you hit a certain grade, you can continue using shadow weapons after C grade as well. Check the weapon store in Giran, for example.
Shadow weapons cannot be traded, exchanged or get a SA crystal.
If you want to make money, you *use* soulshots and spiritshots for xp.
Spellhowlers are probably the cheapest class in the game to play. Two to three soulshot nukes, (800-1200 adena at high levels) and you get back 2400-4800 adena most of the time.
If you have access to full bufs, archers are pretty profitable at xp too.
Now, if you want to play a class that doesn't require *consumables*, that's a different question. There aren't any in L2. :) But the closest might be a warlock or elemental summoner; they only need crystals, and you can carry an unlimited amount around at any one time.
I would say a BH...spoiling, and seeding mobs...then selling them in buy shops..or parking your butt for an hour or 2 before bed and trying to sell it off.
also.. lol make a dagger (LE is best imo), put on some decent robes that has run speed bonus...and go run around places picking up adena, and mats.
I've been doing this on my PW, and I've made 3+mil in adena drops, tons of mats, arrows, and books which I've sold a few of for money, and I didn't even have to touch a mob! and you knwo what that was only in the last 2-3 days.
got to find the hot spots, nuker, archer spots. FoTD, swamp of screams, sea of spores, hot springs, IoP, FoG, WoA, IT. those are some of the best places to go to.
you typically wont make adena when PvE, u can if your lucky with certain items..but if you been on Bartz lately, shots are anything but cheep!!
If you have a good clan and lots of friends Warlord isn't to bad.
Same amount of soulshots per swing and your hitting multiple mobs at once so you save a bit of adena, but still you shouldn't choose a class because they are cheap to play but the type of class you enjoy to play.
A good clan would try to help you out with equipment, either actucally giving it to you or helping you go out farming for the materials to craft it for you.

any class can make money WHILE exping. its just a bit harder to co-ordinate.
if youre willing to sacrifice 2 days of your EXP time per week, to log in a craft shop INSTEAD of exping, youd make MORE money and ubgrade faster.
but no One particular class will be cheaper than another. for your best robustness of Damage and defence and solo-ability i'd say pick Dark Avenger, and use the panther to help kill Catacomb mobs while Manoring.
(AA + Manor fruitsx5) - (cost of shots+summon) = +++money.

Since it's not clear you want a DD class, I think Prophet suits the above description quite well. You need almost no shots, you can keep using your apprentice rod and if you just duo (like with an archer friend) and play cautiously, you can probably get away with cheap armor too.
Don't expect to shine with those restrictions, though.
If you plan on going high level, then go Spellhowler.
From about level 50+, even with shots u make money and u can level relatively fast. SH is one of the best all round classes in the game.
if you like being 1 shoted by archers, dagger, orcs, and other mages. DE con is not funny.
a phantom summoner isn't bad, it has a 30% summon, that has built in VR, a cubic that debuffs your target....only problem is weight issue.
1-40 is basically your learning curve...they are relatively easy levels. and it don't take much more then a couple weeks at most to get past them.. me and my two friends have gotten like 5 academy toons in and out of the academy in less 1 week.
u have to always be mindful of the economy.
U just simply can't say go manor, go manor, and expect you can buy the seeds every time, or turn them in. Our auto friends have it set to turn them in at a set value, at a set time..and its pretty hard for you to time manor turn in to beat them.
And alot of the castle owner do their own manor, or set their own trains to do them for them.
