lionna is still alive and kicking.. a little emphasis on the kicking :)
Something i've learned though is to be careful on the clan u choose to join, not all of them promote interest clan member satisfaction.

Two responses:
Most of the servers have fairly small #'s of real players in the starter areas. Last time I logged onto Franz and Luna there were more "toons" running around in groups in the starter areas (if you take my meaning) but not an appreciably higher number of players.
So that's mostly a game-wide trend. In part because of server expansions, in part because of dwindling overall #'s, and in part because of all the improvements for helping 1-20 go very fast.
As for Lionna, it has what is now considered a "low population". I haven't checked for a few weeks but it was about right in the middle of the NA servers in overall total population.
Of course those websites only count accounts logged and not players so it can be a bit misleading in some instances.
But Lionna has seemed to be fairly stable since a bit after the transfers were made available.
It's quieted a bit now, but up to 2 weeks ago our clan was recruiting a number of new players (something like 7 in 6-7 days)--I suspect folks who bought the 4th Anniversary edition. They were all new players to L2.
Still, Lionna is a low pop server--no question of that. We like to talk about "quality" of players, mostly since quantity isn't an option (lol).
Incidentally, Lionna has the nicest players of all the ones I've tried, including Franz and Teon. Since the transfers it seems theres never any smacktalking or anything like that anymore, and the vast majority of people are mature minded. Gets my vote as friendliest server.

Yea, sofar the few people ive asked questiosn of in the game have been nice =D now i just gotta get my dwarf lvld up enough to actualy 'see' other people :p
Far from dead. the server functions. Hellbound it going thou stages. RB are done daily and weekly. We have RP, seiges, wars and lots of ally parties. New people starting and people transferring from Teon, fran and Bartz to Lionna and people that Left coming back. yep if that's dead 2 you sucks 2 be you then. :p
This is the only thing Ashley said that I have reservations about. I mean, is this like 1 or 2 people coming back, or a few dozen, or somewhere in-between? Are some clans returning? I'm just curious - can you offer some supporting numbers. explanations, whatever? And if this is true, my hat's off to Lionna. I haven't seen anything like that on Seighardt.

Different people have different definitions of dead (when it comes to servers.)
It used to be, in C1-C3, we could see 300 people gathered for mass pvp on a weekday afternoon. Now that doesn't ever happen, even at sieges.
A couple of months ago I participated in about 4 raids. I wound up ranked pretty high in raid points (can't remember now, but I think it was like 3x or something like that.) With four raids!!! If so many people are raiding every day, how'd I wind up ranked so high after just four raids?
Anyway... the casual / low level players are happy with the activity level on the server right now. And obviously the higher level pvpers were not, since most either long-since quit or transferred away.
Lionna's like a niche server now. It's great for those that want to play casually, hang out with friends and not really participate in much end-game stuff or lots of pvp. For those that want to play competitively, well... there's not so much in the way of competition.
because maybe 20 people are doing the majority of those raids because you need 1 party to do a boss. So not that many have high raid points. usually you have to have 10k + points to even be close to the upper ranks.
yes I was bored anyways Liona is ranked 8th with regards to population, play on Kain myself and yes I think it's pretty much dead from an end game perspective aka nothing to do for 78+ people.. the few left here are just botting/grinding up before they transfer to either Bartz or one of the Euro servers

to be honest am surprised they haven't already done some merging as from a hardware cost point of view they're losing money instead of making any with the last few servers and I really don't see that change in the near future

to be ohnest, this is a solo perspective. The game should evolve at that level, you should have developed a social network at this stage if you were playing the game as an mmorpg.
High end players should support the community on the server they're on if they're wanting the population to survive.
There are a number of dominant clans on Lionna, they just need to learn to stop being so exclusive if they are wanting the population to survive. I still have much fun on Lionna but it requires effort to make the social connections. After all, this is a community based game.

funny comment seeing I'm part of the dominant clans/alliance on Kain so not quite posting from a "solo" perspective and we do encourage people to try out the end game stuff like raids & hellbound instances etc. we just have a dead grip on all castles & epic raids but thats about it :p
got my friendlist at max with about 12~18 people from it daily active but I do remember how it used to be in say C4 when 30+ were active daily and there were serious seiges with each side having 200+ people & mass pvp for the epic raid bosses aka how for example Bartz is now and you can say what you want but those days are gone as (outside of mergers) I do not see any of the servers ranking 5~11 getting the numbers population wise to support any of that again.

You are totally right, they are deleting all our characters and all our gear, we'll all have to start from level 1, they're mixing up which players they throw on what server (so no guarantee that you'll wind up on the same server as your friends!) and of course on this new server, Giran will not exist, all text will be in Latin and the world will be completely reversed, with Heine in the north and Dwarven Village in the south... such a sad, sad day. :(
This is a game, not real life. While people may not like it, I don't think it deserves quite the amount of QQing that has been going on. Some people (not you, necessarily) act like the world is crashing down on them.
If you feel that strongly about it (strongly enough to say it would be better for all characters to be deleted) then quit.

For the record, people who care don't quit. They get upset, they adjust, they persevere.
If caring about anything is a liability and weakness then I happily admit to the faults.
It just might be possible, obviously recognizing it's clearly a game, that some of us have invested time and effort and energy to create something we thought was fun.

Funny enough, I believe I probably have more joy in my life than you, judging by your posts here today. And whether I'm a joy to others IRL is not for you to say, since you have never met me.
I'm sorry that you're all upset about this, I don't for a second believe that everyone should be jumping for joy. I completely understand that some people are upset. But I think (not in this thread, but in the main thread) that the amount of over-exaggerated despair and anger is just uncalled for.
But then again, I had decided to "take a break" way before these server merges were announced. This was just the final blow to make me not want to come back.
For me it's more like an ensemble of bad choices made by NCSoft and the struggle I had to go through over and over to pay for my account, only to log in and be bored.
So I'm saving my money and playing GW for now. Although I think the server merges will end up being worse for the community that good, really. There were some people asking for merges. But there were much more voting against it.
Would have been nicer if NCSoft knew who to listen to. Majority instead of minority. But oh well. I'm not their customer anymore, so screw it.
erm hope you do realise that the people that post on the official forums are actually the minority as there are other forums with way way more active people posting etc. then here..
one could say how this game is designed for large populations aka at least 3+k and how unrendable some servers have become from a financial accounting point of view but those points have been raised before so I'll behave :P
ps, the population you can play & interact with will double so how can that be more boring then the current state of afairs ? new people to meet, friends to be gained & enemies to be found.. sounds far from boring to me o0

more people => more fun.
More friends to meet, and i personnaly dont believe that players from Kain are 100% [censored], far from it even, so as most people like to enjoy meeting new friends in this kind of Game server merges will sure be a must.
Competition will be harder, for sure, but that can't be bad.
Main problem remains the Clan halls, ofc, that some clans worked very hard to get and will certainly have to bid on a few Sec click.
Second big problems will ever be the epic farmers that NC seems to cherish so much from whom greedy players ebay a lot instead of siding and fighting them.
but NC's politics stays almost quite the same anyway, enable transfert to get money from players, then wait a good lockdown delay on accounts flux and merge servers, to get those deveived from not being the Best on bartz teon and frantz to come back on more populated servers and try to get a new crown. All of this is a good way to gather money.
I'm not a PvP freak, I hate clan wars, I hate PKing, I hate politics. I liked Lineage2 for the graphics, my friends and the lore.
So see why a merge would be bad news for me?
The GOOD thing is that I had decided to go inactive 2 weeks before they announced this.
ANd I still do NOT think that the majority of people wants merges. THey should have done a vote, not on forums, mind you, but directly on our accounts. Pushing things on people is far from fair, especially when you're a paying customer.

on Kain we fought them since the beginning and we drove them off, the only raid that we don't kill ourselves is Zaken as that's just to much hassle.
Right now DarkSide alliance controls Baium Frint & Anthy (been awhile we had the numbers of the right classes to kill Valakas) and AQ is sort of a first come first serve situation which usually results in nice pvp.
Nobody, not even farmers, bother to kill core & orphen on Kain.

What is not welcomed, however, is to frown upon people who choose a different approach to the game -- "infection" is the key-word here. They have the same right as you to play the game the way they enjoy most. You are no better than them, didn't you know?

not all AQ spawns, unlike the rest of the epics we actually do have regular pvp over AQ (been there a few times myself for the pvp fun) and you know my personal opinion on the whole soulless topic.. not all are like that in DS even if we are a minority..
