Hello,
Well today was my first day in this game. Hate to say but it did not blow me away. Graphics and sound was nice, semi ease at moving about if your heavy into mouse point/click and auto move. And having just 2 classes to begin with that has identical spells or moves with all races? Lastly seeing no one about, so I did many shouts, on several servers, all the busy ones, nothing. Guess low noobs are on their own till upper lvl. I have played all the MMO's, still playin CoH/V. I am not giving up after 1 day, just please tell me the game will get better. Heavy grind does not scare me away, boredum and lack of anyone around will. I ran back to playin Sacred after 4 hours of not a soul seen in the game on multi servers.
As a new player, you start in the newbie villages and, sadly, these are usually ghost towns. Not a good advert for the game I agree.
Use the newbie tokens to move around for free.
Once you reach the mainland you'll find more people. From Gludin, Gludio then onto Dion.
Dion will be the first town to have a worthwhile population. People usually start to hunt around here in the 20s after the first class change.
What server are you on ?
People are always willing to help new players. All are welcome !!
Don't despair. You've chosen a great game. All you need to do is level up a few levels and get the feel of hunting the low mob.
Click on NPCs with the orange exclamation mark. That usually denotes an available quest at your level.
What server are you on? Many of them do not have healthy-sized populations at the moment. Regardless, even on Bartz, newbie areas are generally dead (tho I was able to find a hunting partner on Talking Island but prolly got lucky).

First time you will start feeling better about game population will probably be when you hit Dion. Giran is the central hub city where you will see the most players. From 20-40 on Bartz you can get lots of group invites to raid-boss parties - they will level you fast - but you might wind up being too poor to afford gear when you hit 40, so be careful.

The game gets much more complex as you go, but the classes themselves are not where the game's complexity is. Obviously they get more interesting than what you see now, especially 40+ when you have the full variety in place. But for me this game's complexity and nuance is in its economic and social systems tbh. Gameplay is fairly straightforward.
Aren't you connected to Public Test Server by mistake?
the progression of the game.

noob towns are barren, while higher level zones are full to max. L2 isn't a new game, its more then 4 years old.

u'll see alot more life in and around dion, and giran.
Others have tackled the population issue (how easy it is to get to 40+ nowadays, so everyone just zips through the newbie areas...) but this sentence stopped me in my tracks.

And having just 2 classes to begin with that has identical spells or moves with all races?

Wow, you need some schooling on L2 if you think there's just two identical starter classes! That is a complete misunderstanding of the class system of L2. Yes, the human, dark elf and light elf all have mystic and fighter classes, with similar skills (but not exactly the same) but the orc, dwarf and Kamael all have completely different initial classes.

At level 20 you get to choose a more specific class, but even those classes usually encompass two or three play styles. Level 40 is where you really get to specialize. In all, there are 34 different classes at level 40, plus an additional class that is not "unlocked" until you've played a Kamael to a high level with subs.

Level 1-20 should only take you a few days, at most. So you're almost immediately going to be changing classes and turning into a more specialized character. And even at the low levels, it's more than just the skills that make each class unique. The race heavily influences the way a character is played. Light Elves are typically faster at running and casting, where Dark Elves typically pack a punch (whether magic, bow or melee). Humans are somewhere in the middle. Orcs, Dwarves and Kamael are completely different class types from the LE, DE and Human, so it can be hard to even compare them.

Basically, a LE, DE and Human Mystic might start out with similar skills, but they turn into classes that are quite varied.

Take a look at some of the skills in the Library and you should see differences starting early on. But also keep in mind that in addition to having different skills, the base stats influence the characters a lot.
serious business in this games begins at ~65 lvl, before that you are mere 1-shotable noob and all you have to do is exping your toon, making friend and all kind of communication.

from lvl 65 to lvl 75 you are very promising one. you can enter some clan that is not very engaged in wars, to learn about realities of pvp side of the game.

from lvl 76 (till lvl 78 for some classes) you are one from pvp players. you can apply to some really pvp-clan, but it seems you'll get a lost. real pvp-clans recruit mostly noblesse toons, but if your class is very necessary or healer/singer/dancer, you have a chance.

if you are a nuker, you really need 79 lvl to be very strong (but necro don't have 79 lvl skill, so you can't have a cookie is you're a necro). actually this skill is real win button from time to time.

next step is making proper sub-class. you need to have a look on hell bound patch notes to pick a sub with best skill for your main. after your sub is 76 you are welcomed in most of clans (well, 75 is actually, but i think, it's better to have a sub with 3rd prof).

but... you need to make your reputation. indeed, clans, who are your historical enemies, will never invite you until something unforeseen happens.

that's it.
As I said, I do not wish to run away because I am not getting the due attention that I feel I need, nor will I run away because the grind is just too hard. I am here because all ther other MMO's have turned too soft, to simplistic. So, if what all you folks replying is true, of course, then I will just buckle down and grind on. BTW, I am not one who seeks a fast ride to endgame, usually, MMO wise, there is no endgame, just click restart and go again. I wish to just be part of a bigger game, not an observer of others in it. Anyways, thank you to all who replied and viewed.
One last thing, was asked in several reply posts as to what server I was on, I have now lvls 1-8 on 6 different servers. Just to find folks, not locked down to any server yet.
enter a server with proper time zone from euro or na. incorrect choice will make huge headache later, when it's too late.

and don't remember soon some server will merge.
ahh there is the problem :) Only lvl 8. Like others suggested take your toons up to about 20. It should take less time than you think because the grind at low lvls is rediculously fast. The easiest path to XP is from DE vil, follow the path down to gludio. Once you hit gludio stay around there till 20, run your class transfer and head on to dion. As each mob becomes easier try the next mobs down the path. That path from DE to Gludio really is like a map to lvling up to 20. Once you hit 20 you can lvl outside dion where there are lots of people waiting to sell you over priced and over enchanted goods that you don't need. ^^;;

Oh, and the stuff possessionne said above about clans is really not accurate. There are large PVP clans that may be that restrictive but on any server I have -EVER- been on there are clans for just about any level. You won't be pvping with top lvl toons or taking any castles at lvl 20.. but I bet you can find a small friendly clan or an academy of a large alliance that will push you up through ranks until you are the right lvl to pvp and take a castle. ;)
"just finding folks to grind with" will get you in the wrong hands fast, fella.

in Lineage2 you may think youre grinding with legit people, but truth be told, a LOT of them in the higher levels are NOT.

in terms of hours of gameplay to get to a mediocre level of competition in pvp, youre facing months of grind. and grind is done best solo.

i wont tell you where the people are because i dont see any either. i see only unlegit people.

be careful who you make your friends with, Dewatcher.
Ya, stay away from Spudnik, and don't listen to what he says.

LOL
Haha indeed don't clan up with just anyone. Make sure your clan no matter what size has real live human chatter and none of it is about EULA abusive actions.

i see only unlegit people.

maybe u play with the wrong ones? :)
lol supdnik=everything bad on L2 but he still play.
his advice r take oposite

get to lvl 20, do your first class change, go to dion, try to meet people, join an academy.

This game does not hand anything to anyone. Well, that's not entirely true as it is easier now than when the game first started.

However, you need to be a self starter with a mission. Also, this is not a "chatty" game where people chat on some sort of open channel about what they had for dinner.

Those types of chats are kept to clan and alliance. ;)

In this game, clan and alliance are more than chat channels though. They are your family. They will help you, come to your aid, rez you, get your dropped equipment (when you used to drop when your name was white and not red) help you in quests.

If you are in this game and you are not part of a clan/alliance or academy then you wont' do well. Period. Unless of course you are a loner and prefer it that way.

Also, there are two grinds in this game. Money and xp. You can't xp and expect to compete with money. So you are going to have to be proactive and learn how to make it.

And this game is a lot harder than CoX so be prepared for that.

Welcome.

Like most have said on here this game is 4 years old. You need to grind and lvl up. It doesn't take long and will get easier with the next update (free buffs up to lvl 60). For now though as soon as you hit lvl 15 start shouting to join an academy. There are plenty of clans out there who will let almost anyone join thier academy. The starter towns on all servers are pretty dead now, but you wont spend much time in them. Read the forums on July 8th they are merging some servers together which should help those servers. If you are from EU I would suggest playing on a EU server so you will be playing the same time most everyone else is. Same thing if you are NA. Be patient the grind is worth the fun at higher lvl's. Also read the forums about making adena in this game. There are 2 parts to this game, the xp grind and the Adena grind. It can be very difficult to make the adena needed for goode gear. IMO just use the cheapest stuff you can get and save all the Adena you can untill lvl 52 B grade. It will take longer to lvl but it will pay of in the long run. Good luck and have fun, just remember you are starting on an established game so it will take time to catch up to other players.
If you play on Bartz for example you will start seeing people around in Gludio, and once in Dion you will see alot of peeps around.

Also partying is the best way to go most of the time if your melle etc. PM me on the boards if you have any questions etc.

have fun
lol i thought you would be glad to know that nobody on your starter town when many of us started several years back there was pkers all over the starter zones another reason why peeps lvled up rapidly lol so they could get off the newbie areas and go hide out somewhere on the mainland to avoid pkers and if your on bartz watch out around dion there are still lvl 70+ pkers running around there but generally have fun once you hit mainlands :)
