Hi
I just noticed something strange in BS. I'm not sure if this was added by an update or if it's a bug. Take a look at the screenshots and tell me if you have this prob too. Imo this didn't happen in previous chornicles or at least not if you "see" the mobs without a barrier between you and the mob.

It's a feature , not a bug..
Get used to it... It's really annoying though.
It's only a bit strange that i haven't noticed it in the past 3 years >.<
They added that in Kamael update if I am not mistaken.
well, the update is called HellBound for a reason.

Now we know one of them...lol
Yep, annoying as hell, one of the worst "features" they have added to this game imo.
what exactly is this "feature" supposed to do?

Annoy the hell out of you. :D

its ...

bound to.
Noone knows exactly. But I guess the idea is to make terrain more important in PvE and PvP.

Its just badly implemented, I think someone did some tests and he found out that the line of sight is located at your feet. So if there is a bump between you and your mob that is higher than your feet (e.g. every bump), you cannot see the target.

Known issue...people nuking or shooting *through* obstacles was pretty ridiculous in the past. So they added a "Line of Site" check to ranged attacks to counter this.

Sadly they took "The Easy Way Out" (tm) and really only worry about the horizontal aiming in game and not so much the vertical. So when the terrain rises a little bit in front of you, the game thinks you can't 'see' it. Not because the shot will hit something between you and the target, but because the line they check with is located lower on the models. (Aka chest to foot, instead of chest to chest.)

Although it's frustrating at times, it's probably not going to get any better really since the function needs to work as well on an Elpy as it does a flying Wyrm. (And the elpy is going to be hidden at time the Wyrm will appear fully exposed.)

lol that's classic

yea that sounds like NC Soft :P
yeah those invisible walls are sometimes quite annoying

but there is a simple solution for it; move a little to the right or left and u can suddenly 'see' the target
My BF almost broke his keyboard and threw computer out of window when we were hunting in FOTD. It's called Forest Of The Dead for a reason - you are dead when you "cannot see target" while mobs happily drain the hell out of you no matter where they are.
I still shoot right through giant rocks in the fields with my baby sorc all day long...

This is QFT! Mobs in fotd who nuke can shoot up through hills, through trees, behind boulders--you just can't hit them back!
Lol!
Same thing with nukers and archers protecting fortresses. THey shoot through walls all the time but you can't fight back until you can see them.
I get nuked through walls all the time in catas :( . Are mobs gonna get a Line of Sight too? Soon (tm), right?

Holy! dont even get me started on FoTD... The mobs root you, then they nuke you where you cant nuke them back, then you dead, then you cry.
Yep ... basically, a good concept and probably a fair addition (nuking through the ground/off the edges of huge cliffs was a bit ******ed) ... but they forgot to make nuker MOBS subject to the same rules (they still operate on the old rules which didn't care at all about vertical 'blocks', only horizontal ones like trees). So now, there are situations where a mob can nuke you but you can't hit it back. Really unfair in hilly places like FOTD.
:( yea that is really messed up, but thats where the good ol' features really come from, laziness
Yes, I know it was possible to hide behind objects to stop a caster mob in catas.
But now if it already started casting in catacombs no wall is going to stop it, pretty stupid IMO, fix it ><.

And about the problem the op mentioned, it is making "hiding behind your finger" a viable option .
Actually Blazing swamp been always bugged like this, nothing new to see here. This occurs anywhere else ? (besides FOD and BS) ?

And yep, they changed it a few thronicels ago. Mobs do finish casting through obstacles. Anti exploit measure.....
I personaly believe in terrain advantages, but this su.. :p
I'm slow at the moment, how exactly was that an exploit?

People were killing mobs. So they made mobs cheat so they don't get killed. It's the fault of mean players. Stop killing mobs!
I don't consider it one, but some people complain when an archer can shot mobs wich are below him in a valley. he doesn't get damage, safe killing. Mobs can't reach him.

NCsoft decided that the natural terrain advantage of ranged classes is unfair = hence an exploit.

Some powerfull casts need a long time to chant, hence you hit the poor mob for like 4 secs, dissappear behind a corner, 6 secs casts get's interrupted, repeat. ;)

Now mobs port up to you (should), or finish their casts even when you run out of sight.

Oh, I had that happen there.

Was typing in chat when I suddenl noticed that my health was being lowered. couldn't find a mob until too late. It was hitting me through a hill.

Yeah, the whole thing in BS is "B.S.". Any slight change in elevation and suddenly you can't hit your target. Bah!

what exactly is this "feature" supposed to do?

Problem was, people were giving and recieving damage through objects, so they changed it to where you need to have a full plain view of the object. Good concept, but working bad lol.

Angry People. :(
...and cubics still shoot through walls...
i am a tyrant, and ive never had this problem in the last 3 levels hunting in BS.

. This occurs anywhere else ?

Hot springs as well, guessing it changed during Kameal or Hellbound, not sure which since I just started playing again recently >< Didn't have the same line of sight issues in interude or before that though thats for sure(even in blazing swamps).

Congratulations for trying to make a point about a character that isn't a ranged class. Why would you have terrain issues? You don't kill from a range...
lol jyrki. yes i do. blaster FTW. saves me TONS in SS.
The majority of the mobs you kill are not at range, in fact unless you crit with force blaster every mob you do kill is within Melee range. Gratz, you have a ranged skill, a few in fact... point being your whole arsenal of attacks arent RANGED, thats why this dosen't pertain to you.
i open with force blaster which recycles in time to kill the next mob. ive NEVER had a problem.

the only issue i have EVER run into in Blazing swamp is the bugs when i blast them SOMETIMES they hang at their ground and i cant pull them away. ive run out over 1600 range and they still nuked from the same spot.

thats it.

i am not sure what's caused this for so many other players, but i was always able to "see" my target before blasting.
Mobs are lenient on ******ed ppl.. problem solved.

This is true for all changes on skills and things like this.

Mobs still use Pre-Nerf Sleep/Mana Burn/Sleeping Cloud. They use pre-nerf versions of skills like Inferno, MOB debuffs last twice longer than player debuffs (some of which were nerfed in duration IIRC).

NCSoft just has some of the sloppiest game developers ever.

600 versus 900 range can also make quite a factorable difference. In some areas (like FoTD), you'd hardly be beyond 600 range in most of the good spots, anyways.

In an area like BS, that extra 300 range can be the difference between there being a bump or two between you and the mob, or not.

So it's very factorable.

Since your range skill isn't used primarily to kill the mob (have never seen tyrants XP only with blaster and nothing else, but I may be wrong!), you don't get nearly as many of these ******ed range checks as a mage or Archer Class.

Ding Ding.
You should look at this from different point of view: at least pve is a bit more challenging :P Personally I find FOD the funniest spot in this level range. And I'm glad, that they didn't nerf mob debuffs. Mobs in such places die in 2-3 hits anyway.
