Bot Comedy

I logged in a few moments ago and saw a few bots running in a line for the newbie guide, and then to the GK. I did what I always do and /gm reported them. I got the usual response and suddenly had an idea that litterally made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe for a momment:

Wouldn't it be hilharious if people ran some type of bot program that did nothing but /gm to report bots... LOL... the GMs would get soooooo ****** they might actually do something about the problem. Just thinking about it made me laugh sooooooo hard.

it would be almost as anoying to the gms as the bots are to us.
Do you have a life? ;o
We're gamers, we have multiple lives. DOH! :)
But it's funny you gotta admit :p.
Boating is bad, mmmmkay?
Yes, hillarious idea. LF volunteers to risk accounts :D

(By the way ... do you think there will be bot-free servers first moments after merge, because programs won't be able to get to correct server ID?)

sounds like a chance to finally turn in seeds (that is if you play on a merged server).

oh wait, castles aren't going to be taken...never mind.

by then they'd have their programs up and running cause its time lost, money lost.

make a trial for yourself :p
The bots will all be rushing to get online after the merge to ensure they can keep their names! "askjhdskjga0129" might be taken on the other server!!
How were you thinking that your bot-petitioner-bot should determine who to report and not?

Ofc, you could (on Luna) just warn normal players to get out for a bit and then place the reporter in deva castle/fields of massacre and successfully get 200-300 bots in a few quick petitions :>

Edit: The mentioned area is just hillarious on Luna. Petitioning hasn't helped at all so far.

Funny.

But what would happen is the people behind the soulless players would use the same program to send false petitions on REAL players...just so the GM's would be too swamped trying to sift through valid and invalid petitions.

If they can send mass in-game pm's now, just think what mass invalid petitions would do to the system. Let's not give these guys any ideas, ok?
They don't read our forums :>
If only that were true...
I only made this post becouse when I logged in and reported those bots it struck me that I must have reported a zillion bots in my time, and it is very frustrating.

The Mods and Dev and GMs alike have told us time and again that they "understand" the frustration of dealing but I somehow get the feeling that they don't... I just thought it would be nice to show them the level on which we deal with it... I see no less than 100 bots a day that so readily recognizable it makes me sick... I petition them, and move around them to look for another roon (which sometimes I don't find) and wait... then log in again the next day and repeat, mostly on the same bots - day after day...

I am just very weary of playing MY game on the bots terms... seems injust to me.

LMAO!!

I have to admit that was a good one. Even I laughed out loud at work when I read that.

my guess is 50% of active players have their own bot teams which bring in a steady weekly income to be able afford everything a hardcore players needs. A typical bot team consists of bd/spoiler/dagger/pp/se thats at least 5 accounts, plus any other account they want to make noble.

and here is math which based on my guess of 50% players have bot teams.

lets say there are 100 active players
50 legit (may have another account or 2 for buffer to dual box)
50 non legit that have their own bot teams (5 more accounts on average, besides their main account)

now lets calculate out of 50 legit players lets say we have an average of 80 accounts (some with extra accounts and some have just one)

the other 50 players, each have 5-6 more accounts on average (some have even several bot groups, but lets still consider 5-6 extra accounts on average)
50+275=325 accounts

so what we have now...
50 legit = 80 accounts times 15$ = 750$ (per month)
50 non legit = 325 accounts times 15$ = 4875$ (per month)

who do you think NCsoft likes more?
do you still think they can NOT ban bots?
or do you now see why they dont?

and there you have it, out of 100 real people that play this game you have 405 accounts, today average server population is around 1k, thats around 250 real people playing this game per server.

all calculations where based on a guess from an experience of 1 person, so actual numbers may vary, but this should at least give you an idea why bots are not being banned on regular bases and why they will always be here.

its very sad but unfortunately bots are here to stay for the greed of one company that DOESNT have quality as their priority.

don't give them any ideas... ???
isn't that what you've just done with this very post..
ironic. isn't it.
Kogan:
So if these massive ammounts of bots got banned lets say every month, wouldn't it be more profit if the illegit had to buy new accounts all the time? :O

If you say: Then they would quit.
I saay, perfect.

note: I also belive the GM's have a hard time finding the bots. Since everytime they get near the boats log out.
The other day i asked Spam to go clear out apostate on Luna cause thre was not a single room with live players.
He said he would do that. The next day i checked and they were all still there. So :E I think they got issues.

Could go there with a normal char maybe and then get on the GM char and ban or something.. iono but that's terrible if they cant get to see them.
Kogan - NCsoft is company that, like all comanies does what they do to make money, but that doesn't mean that they are only after it... You would make a terrible CEO or exec of any kind from what I can tell by yuor post.
If that is how you think companies opperate than you are... well... I'm not getting started on what you are.

Anyway, A good company worries about things like "continual bussiness" and "impression". They want us to like NCsoft as much as we like Lineage 2... so that if they ever make Lineage 3 we will buy and play it... or some other game like GW or their new Aion etc etc... They do not make decisions based solely on the monatary outcome.

If the real players quit (for whatever reason *cough*bots*cough* ) then the bots have no one to sell the adena to, and they quit... then NO one plays and NCsoft looses more money.... think about your posts before you make them...

Not to mention that L2 isn't NC's pet anymore, they have other projects that they are devoting much more attention to and L2 is reaching the point in its lifespan where it stops being as proffitable in general due to a dwindling player base and decreased interest from existing players... they are hardly worrying about making money atm (they've made millions already on just l2) and are more concerned with keeping players interested in the company so we make them money on other tittles.

Why do you think that time cards used to be "lineage 2 time cards" and they are now "NCsoft time cards" and why do you think they come with free trials for all their other games?

chew on that for a bit.
Barring financial ruin I've only ever "quit" lineage for one reason. The short of the long is Adena bosses and their 24/7 live teams put the kaibash on my animal bone farmage in DE lands on so regular a basis that when I ported in or ran out to "the spot" they pked me on sight. Literally every time I played, irregardless of time differentials. It got me so flustered that I decided to bounce for a chronicle. This was back in C1 mind you.

I came back to find the live farmers (almost) completely replaced by our autonomous friends and guess what...they never pked me. In fact, I found it quite profitable for a long, long time to steal their gear and items. Bots don't bother me in the least. Is it a problem having them around? Sure. Would we all be better off without them? Hard to say, but probably. Are they a reason to quit playing something that brings you joy? In my opinion, no.

I still train them almost daily. It never gets old watching a carefully geared, placed and skilled up bot train get derailed when I fake 4 full catacomb rooms onto their face.

Speaking of derailed...what was this thread about again?

some players with bot teams have plans and goals, which include and not limited to OE certain skills and reach certain levels on main or sub. And yes there is a very good chance they might quit if they lose their train which they sit in to achieve their goals.

you actually made me laugh lol
in my post i criticised whats happening today in lineage2(not other games), i did not make any suggestions of what should be done.

the reality speaks for itself...
i remember the days when you couldnt login cuz the servers were full of real legit players. and today most servers are dead, thus the mergers.

this company has made alot of wrong decisions which killed this game, and their biggest mistake was subclass. do you have any idea how many new players quit this game after seeing ghost towns (gludio/gludin/and all starting villages)
If all those new players had seen alot more action going when they started playing, today we might have 10 or 20 or 50 more servers, instead of merging.
Subclass in itself is great idea specially allowing main to use skills from subclass, however allowing you start subclass at 40 was big mistake.

Second mistake is not fighting bots effectively, the company did not see far enough that player frustration from seeing bots everywhere would make lots of ppl quit.

i also play wow, and once i got scammed by clicking keylogger link on one of the forums. I have lost everything, roughly take all epics from lineage2 and all S grade armor and wep, along with 2b adena, thats how much in value i lost in wow. i petitioned and got reply within 25minutes, stating blizzard will investigate and will keep me updated thru email, after 5 days i got everything back.
another time petitioned a bot in barrens (in wow also), 30minutes later it was gone and i never seen it again, nor was able to pm it. customer service ftw. i am stating simple facts from my own experience, and you decide yourself where is good ceo and bad.

sadly for me i'm very attached to l2, but will never buy another product from NCsoft.

Not irony, just chess.
i would give anything for a click - insert name function ... just push /gm *click* *click* *click* i would spend days with reporting like that, like it is now, its just annoying reporting IIIlllIllll12asdfggqwee over and over again not being even able to read the right name
