On Tuesday, July 8, 2008, we will be conducting two separate maintenances--the regular weekly maintenance, and the server merge maintenance.
The regular weekly maintenance will be held at the normal time between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM Central Time (4:00 PM GMT+1 to 6:00 PM GMT+1) and applies to the Bartz, Devianne, Teon, Franz, and Luna servers.
The server merge maintenance will begin at 8:00 AM Central Time (2:00 PM GMT+1) and is expected to be nine hours. The servers that will be impacted by the server merge are Sieghardt, Kain, Lionna, Erica, Gustin, and Hindemith.
We will keep the community updated on the progress of the server merge maintenance, and give as much advanced warning as possible when we are nearing the maintenance completion. Please see this post for the full server merge details.
Central time is not 6 hours behind GMT +1.
Central time is 7 hours behind GMT +1 and 6 behind GMT.
Which means the other servers should be up at 7pm GMT +1 and not 6.
The merged servers will be coming up at midnight GMT +1.
I was getting a couple msn messages so I figured i'd clarify for the rest of the europeans whos confused.
Ok, check it out. This is precisely why I stopped posting anything other than Central Time in the first place. Every time I do, someone wants to argue that what I posted is wrong.
This is the site (http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/gmt-plus-1/) that I use, and have always used. According to this site, GMT+1 is precisely 6 hours ahead of Central Time. Right now, Central Time, it's 12:49 PM. Right now GMT+1 it's 18:49 PM. That's 6 hours, not 7.
Only thing is in 2 weeks most won't even remember the post nor the Link :D
I live in Denmark which is GMT +1
So you can argue all you want, all the clocks in my house shows 19:51.
or 7.51PM.
...
She don't live in Denmark so all she has 2 go on is the site. So in the future when it comes 2 her L2 Post....deal with the fact she uses the site and use it your self. ;)

I live in Denmark. And yes the time is 7:55 PM. And yes Denmark is located in the geographical GMT+1 Timezone, but that is not the timezone we follow right now. We're actually using GMT +2 due to daylight savings time (Sommer/Vintertid)
And that is the mistake almost everybody makes when talkign about timezones. Every time.

No matter what,
The time is wrong for the majority of the european people.
Edit:
An idea...
You could use CET instead... which is where most euro people are playing from. then you dont run into problems like GMT +1 or +2 or whatever :)

What I think you and others are forgetting is that Europe currently is on summer time. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) doesn't adjust for summer time so you have to do that yourself. Central Europe is GMT+2 in the summer.
you people forget daylight savings/ summer time etc etc etc
GMT is stationary
a country that under normal circumstances is GMT +1 when clocks go forward an hour becomes GMT+2 till clocks turn back
There is NO GMT summer time however, you can current GMT time at http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/, do the math and see that while denmark for eg is GMT+1 right now it's GMT+2 due to summer time
It's a common mistake :)

No. the time is not wrong, It's the people, they are stupid when it comes to timezones. (not limited to European people, most people are except for places where they don't use DST)

Does anyone know what time it is? My watch is broken
Now
Wait...now, now? I mean, were you talking about just then or right now? Even if you were talking about that point just then or the actual now we still need to know if it was the now/then that you just experienced of if it was or will be the now/then that I/we will, did, or would have experienced depending on where we are in relation to you.
:D
GMT should be standard learning for students in the US. It's not my place to speak for people in other cultures, but as a citizen of the United States I would like to see us embrace GMT considering how many rules we have for day light savings times from county to county and the role we play(and how dependent we are) in/on the global economy.
Ask people in Ohio what time it is. Enjoy the answers.
Personally I think that having a GMT time is great. GMT wont move so all you need to do is google your current locations current GMT. most sites update it so it changes as you experience changes like daylight savings.
For me, seeing a GMT time posted by Alyra, all i need to do is check my GMT and add the difference to get my own times for the post.
without GMT i instead need to figure out how i relate to Central time which is kind of confusing when i google it and get alot of different variations and alternate abreviations etc O.o
Im sure that GMT/UTC was created for the purpose of co-ordinating Time-Zones (hence its meaning Universal Co-ordinated Time). Makes sense to use it :). Thanks Alyra for including GMT times in information, it makes things alot easier for me ^^.
what if we skipped over now? but that will be later.... when will now become then? soon......... if u dont know where this comes from u aint a child of the 80"s.....:P

Well I was talking about then, not now. I guess now is a whole different thing altogether. We could syncronize and plan on sharing a Now moment, but the now moments go by so quick, I feel we'd hardly enjoy it. I mean, what significance does Now have if we are simply fleeting from one subjective now moment to the next?
I have awoken Baium twice and survived, does that count?
Once on a naked SE (got 2 shotted by the angels after 20 sec), second time on a BD in A-grade (was able to run Baium around for about a min, while shouting for ppl to stab hm quick lol).
If you can dodge a Dodge ... :)
Nah, let's just say "it will go by plan and will finish in 3 hours", everybody reading this forum should be able to count to 24 and set their own time :)
I honestly wish the world would drop all forms of Daylight Savings clock mangling junk like a bad habit.
STOP MESSING WITH THE CLOCKS!!!
Set the clocks at one spot and LEAVE THEM. Make the new time 1/2 between the two if you must, but stop adjusting them twice every year.
I have yet to see any benefit from screwing with people's sleep twice a year for non-existent 'energy' savings.
If businesses are so tied to actual daylight, then have them change their hours of business and leave the clocks alone. Hell most businesses have summer/winter hours regardless of the 'savings time' crap anyway. (If they use it at all.)
Once Daylight 'Losing' time is over with we will only have to deal with timezones. And that's a lot easier than messing with clock jumping which may or may not occur on the same day, depending on where you live, or it may not accur at all.
Honestly I doubt business are tied to daylight now. Here is the problem: In last few years there were mild winters and hot summers. Air conditioning >> office lighting in terms of energy consumption. Therefore, it may be even more comfortable, economical and environment friendly for companies to have people work outside normal day schedule. Maybe one day it becomes norm for some countries and daylight saving will be just obsolete.
Oh, yeah, and do not mess with clock. Or you may get some unpleasant results like causing subspacial fluctuations becoming unstable, time reverses to opposite direction and our universe collapses to singularity again!!!

Maybe what Alyra should do is to state that servers will go down at X time Central Standard Time (where their offices are) and suggest that people compare their times with this time. It's not hard to do. Whenever I am planning travel I need to know what time it is in other countries.
The internet is our friend. Until it rises up and messes in our bean gardens.

Good idea, and/or just throw up a display of CET on the server status section or on the front page of the site and be done with it. :p
