Questions on tank classes

I want to start a tank was think about the Dark Elf Sk but hear that human tanks are better. I have a Buffers and a bishop to party with my tank.. Please help if you have any input.

I really wanted for the banish angels

Please help
Go and read topic in Dark Elf Fighter section, there is a topic about this ;)
For raids human tanks are better coz of higher hp pool (especially when the healer has 30% hp heal).

For regular pve I think the SK might be a better choice, coz of the debuffs and cubics. If the party needs a tank that is. Most of the time a party is better off with a bladedancer than a tank though. VR and high offence has pretty much made tanks and to some degree healers obsolete.

Unless you're going to raid a lot I'm wondering what the point is.
the real question is this... do you like slow lvling for teh benifit of high defence? tanks are slow methodical lvlrs. I have loved my paly for 4 yrs. I dont tank in partys, i like doing rb's (although the best tank ive seen yet is a tk in +6 doom). But i love playing him. I love being the only meleeclass that can heal. Ibe saved manny ppl in party from my sacrifice and then gaining the hp back from vr4.It just depends on how u like playing, and that u like playing. if u play a tank u must remeber this...
1. Rarely will u ever party. Most regular parties dont require tanks ne more.
2. You will never be considered a DD. Even though i lvl with +4 str,-4 con, have tall hvy or maj hvy, and have a +5 doom crusher with anger giving me 1100 patk unbuffed on my paly ...im not considered a dd.
3. Must be able to be a soloer/have ur own boxed support to lvl.

no one wants to party one. THen they need to raid (specially to sub) and they cant do it w/o one. Kinda funny aint it?
I think those points depends on your clan or situation. I have a great clan and I always have a party. They love it when I tank. Sometimes I even DD, usually if a higher level tank is present... sometimes they DD. Granted it won't be much, but it counts for some and they realize that even tanks need to level if they want to access the high-end stuff.
In CT2 all tank classes will get a transformation that allows them to use duals and 2handed weapons to do some damage.
The answer is simple: go DA

1) with your panther u can solo no problem with buffs
2) you can keep your high hp pool for raids cause your panther is what's doing all the damage
3) you can banish angels

If you still wanna go SK, then level a wolf with it and it'll be fine.

The lengthy post regarding never being in a party is fully down to what clan youre in. If peole only care about XP and they want perfect parties, yes you'll rarely get one. If your clan however is a clan that cares for its members you have a party every day. The clan you choose is far more important than the class - it can determine if you quit or not, not how speedy you can level.

To answer the question, every tank has an advantage. Theres so many DA's I'd never suggest one unless you dont mind being "just another DA". TK's are cool, everyone loves seeing one cus they are very rare (above B grade). Paladin's are fairly rare, mostly because people much prefered the idea of being able to solo with the panther when they chose their class. SK's are very good soloers because of hex and the para skill, and are also fairly rare.

Go for something thats going to give you fun, but above all, trust me, get in a good clan that will care for you. You won't look back.

Sounds like our clan leader, also a paladin btw. He did the same thing with tattoos, anger weapon, majestic/tallum heavy. We let him leech with mages in the end, I felt so sorry for him :)
I'm a DA, I don't have problems getting into a party, yet I prefer to solo, but hey that's just me.
I've been trying to decide DA or Sorc as a subclass. Everyone tells me Tank is DUMB for a 1st sub because they will level too slowly if I want to hit Noblesse.

I have a 2box SE, so a nuker would likely rock. Any encouragement for going DA?
No encouragement, reach noble fast then you do a 'fun' sub

I did this, swm as main, HE as sub with pp box to level fast, and now i ll do a class i like for sub :)
lvling a tank is not as bad as many here make it sound, my SK could solo decently up to 75 in subpar gear&buffs. In other words +3dama/focus and BW/NM heavy and SE buffs w/alac or haste2 pots (ok I got leeched from 70-73 or so in a duo with a tyrant w/oop SE/PP/BD but hey, I at least casted hex there *cough*)

Ofc a real DD lvls faster but it's not that bad.
After 76 it gets easier by quite a bit if you got some cash cause FB/Focus+element => lots and lots of damage compared to pre S grade. (attributes where added way way after I "quitted" my SK so I never really got to use it there, but I did lend a 150 fire HD/Focus from a friend and soloing IoP at 77 was a piece of cake)

In other words, if you got decent equipment and an oop buffpet lvling a tank solo works quite fine. SK being the easiest to lvl and the rest being somewhat behind (hex, hex, hex, did I mention: hex?).

And just for the records: blunts are terrible. They are not simply terrible they are the very essence of fail.
There is no reason whatsoever under any circumstances whatsoever for anyone (dorfs aside, those poor little things) to ever in their life in L2 use a blunt weapon. None.
They crit half as often as a sword and face it: crits = damage, no crits = no damage.
See what I'm getting at?

To sum it up: blunts make baby jesus cry, so burn them. In a fire.

Aaaaanyway, covered the solo part now.
Tanks being useless in parties is only so true, of course it is right that many parties can do without a tank without dieing. But personally I like having a real tank in my parties cause it prevents things from getting ugly (2 UDs, hate, shield of faith, yaddayadda) and I can use focus power 100% of the time.
So yea, I do like tanks a lot but there are many people that don't appreciate them, that's definately a point to consider when choosing a tank class. If you can't be sure that the people you play with will want you for parties (let's face it: soloing albeit possible is beyond boring, xcept if you.... well you know^^) then rather consider rolling a DD class or a support class.

To get to the original point of the OP: I'd rather choose a human tank than a SK right now, prolly a pala... shield stun, shackle, an unique skill at 79, shield slam, AI, mass shackle... right now they are just better skill wise, might change in future updates again tho, you never know.
The choice for a class shouldn't necessarily come down to "how fast it levels". Obviously I can see why that's concerning (particularly for a subclass) but I'm not sure it should be the main focus of the decision for committing to a toon/class.

Whether they are slow or ponderous or something else, tanks are unique. They require patience--so if you're not very patient and love l33t damage they are not for you.
They require nerve--so if you "hate to die" then you might reconsider.
30+ players at a RB, your healers are ditzes and your hitpoints are falling like an elevator--you absolutely, positively MUST stand in the breech. If THIS isn't you--then do everyone a favor and pass on being a Tank.

Yes they are slow to level and yes they have had lower dps outputs than all DD classes and yes some players are biased against tanks and won't want them in parties (the remedy for that is to find smarter players).
But it's what a tank DOES that should cause you to consider the class--whether that is a fit for you or if you should choose something else.

My 2 cents anyway :)

Blunts aren't terrible

I use a +10 AoBA and sometimes a +10 Elsyian, it's good in leveling, and I tear people up in PvP

Especially daggers and archers, cause I don't miss, that lose target thing doesn't work on me, arrows tickle and I can root and stun, I ripped through them easy.

It's good for fighting light armor classes and mobs since with a sword you will miss a very lot, specially if your a tank cause you sword mastery doesn't cover accuracy and damage to well.

I've killed many classes and never gone back to sword. I've even fought tanks higher level than me with swords WIH focus, and they can't kill me cause they're damage is just ineffienct. However get a gladiator or a destroyer or a anyclass really meant to use sword weapons and they're get over their accuracy with no miss shield ignoring attacks that do way more damage than their hits, + they get accuracy toggles and passives to cover their accuracy problem with swords

So before you diss out blunts, analize the whole situation and see why blunts were put into the game.
Blunts only come out on top if you run unbuffed. And noone in his right mind would do that. The more buffs you get the worse blunts get and the more swords shine. (even more so once you add boss jewels coz they a) increase crt dmg and b) compensate the accuracy)

Go get yourself a FB focus and you'll see the difference.

And what is it with highlvl tanks not being able to kill you? You are a tank, you use heavy armor, a shield and you prolly got majesty buffed. You wouldn't even be able to avoid an old invalid man hitting you with his cane.
There might be other reasons why they loose but the loss of accuracy is definately not one of them lol.

Anyway, use whatever you want I could honestly care less. But there is a good reason why you see 99% of the tanks in L2 using swords rather than blunts.
Hint: It's not just a matter of fashion.
When I first started I wanted a Dama focus becuase I had a SLS focus in C grade, but i ended up getting a AoBA, the difference was very noticable, i never miss anymore like i used to, and I PvP much better.
Simple advice:
You better don't go tank. (c) 79SK (waiting for an event to become HE)

LOL :D
The life of a tank is a life of sacrifice, you must like to prevent your friends to get killed all the time and some times to correct the actions of some dumb dds. Tankers are getting some boosts at ct 2 and the amazing part in be a tanker is to laught at archers faces. Its hard to rise one but its not so bad if u do it in party or solo with a great wolf, if you have oop buffs is very easy to solo. About the types, all 4 are totaly diferent from each other and i can say that all have diferent functions and play style at pvp and pve.

this guide is a little obsolete but u can have some good ideas in there.

I can kill any tank with my HE if tank won't bsoe. discuss.

ps: you welcome to make challenge if you @aria.
Did i said you cant kill? Just tell me how hard is to see your powerfull strikes hitting for 150 dmg, 200 dmg, 0 damage, going out of mana. Even at higher lvls i already saw tankers enduring 2 archers with draconic focus for a considerable amount of time. So yes this is LOL.

But is it worth the time and cost of shots/arrows?

Cheaper to just move off.

with cop on my tank gets single digit crits from drac archers

seriously it's funny, crits do less dmg than regular hits :)

Equal lvl, equal gear? Your server needs some serious help with their tanks then. What lvl are you?
nice grapes..
78+ max gear, yes it will be quite long and will cost me and tank a lot of money on GCP/GHP/QHP. Tank will be out of mana faster then archer. Tank can even soe-out if lucky enough and surely he will have alot of time to find bsoe in his pocket, but at the end archer will win.

There were a lot of discussion with results like:
- Tank have inadequate low p.def for tanks, high geared archer have just a bit less p.def then tank in equal gear, sure there is a shield also and some skills but no p.atk. So melee groups is just fine with VR and ranged group with bishops/ee.
- Tank's mdef - is a joke. Killing tank for mage is just one nuke more for high-end nuker. Even through UD nukes will hurt.
- Tank can't hold aggro. So no use for ranged groups. WTH, Archer can tank ANY raid boss in the very end of the game without much problem, why bother to have tank?

So really, u can use tank sometimes somewhere, but it easely replacable with just one more DD, which is better for group kill rate.

So just forget it! Ncsoft should up tanks m.def/p.def by x2 at least to make them work and increase aggression(former "hate") effect by x3 or even more. Then it will start to making sense like it was in pre c3. But do u belive it ever happens?

I don't. Thats why i'm turning to my sub and will enjoy passives from tank-sub to make archer even more overpowered than it is now.

I have a SK 77 and I pick him cuz of the offencive abilities that class have (higher STR, cubics, nukes and debuffs). Also you can pick more then 1 gear setup (pure tank, offencive or tank-nuker). I won some badass pvp on my nuker setup against archers and other tanks.

Regarding pure tank, u gotta keep up your DEX and let the Shield Defence buffs like to theyr job. SKs can tank just like anyother Tank.

Solo can be expencive (not that much if you keep only Vampiric) if you relly on ur cubics. Hex really helps, but since you have buffers and healers you will be fine.

My personal opinion about how to lvl up a tank faster is do trains in Cata's. No other better way I see it.

Maybe now at Gracia with better drops (incluiding the ones from Raid Bosses) raiding come back as a good lvl way.

Well, i hope that helps.

Rather than to get into a whole debate about this (which has been done before) I will just have to disagree with you. On our server Tanks seem to do very well against archers and dagger too. I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but it is incorrect in regards to your comment about hate, archers tanking Raid bosses (even with minions?) I would suggest you take a ride over to the blahber website and watch some vidoes since I cant show you in person. Wish you were on Sayha.

nice grapes..

Thanks,
I have a grape for every occasion.
Mostly happy hour!

no it's not ... A stacked archer group with bubble up can tank pretty much any raidboss in game except from the hellbound bosses
And as to hate yes a tank can hold pve hate quite easily, things suck in pvp though

PvP hate is useless. It needs to lock and land far more often to be any use.

Just to define what 'tank' means in a archer party = keep running around like crazy while fleeing from boss and minions, giving the Healer a BIG heache trying to keep up all alive and keep him alive from having a heart attack while RB and minions keep kitting all around.

I prefer a tank 'TANK' style, where all mobs hit 1 guy, healers keep one eye on 1 guy and all just unleash hell on mobs.

Chaos
Its not complete useless, but yes it must lock and land more often also i would be glad if it force attack too cause how it is now if you use hate at a enemey thats already attacking someone the enemy changes target but it not stop the current attack, it will only switch to u if the hated target press an attack button or use skills.

I won't Say Useless. I watch a C grade DA UD and kept hateing a B grade Nuker on to him while the Mobs killed the nuker was funny as hell. The Nuker Try 2 kill the DA but the Mobs killed the Nuker first. :D
The problem with tank damage is that it is lower than cp pots. So it is really hard to kill someone who spams cp pots.

In general I agree with Drakkos. It is a matter of play style. If you like to play like a tank, choose one and go. Keep in mind the many solo hours and the slow lvling and have patience.

As suggested before a choice similar in play style is a Destroyer. Though not a tank (no hate, few def abilities), a destro can receive tons of damage, has high pdef and high dps. With poling he can lvl quite fast, he is always welcome to parties and he can tank in pve quite good due to his high dps.

Tanks really need a lot of love and improvements in order to shine and play a role in this game. Maybe with mobs using ss in Gracia, tanks will be more important in mellee parties. Remains to be seen.
tanks are scary t.t
Whoa said tanks run out of mp quickly in fights?
If you use your toggles (especially guard stance for TK, SK) mp runs out very fast.
Add root and hate to that and you have mp for less than a minute of fighting. With shield fort only it should be like 2-3 minutes.

In pve it is a total different story. In herb dropping mobs a tank can propably keep shield fort up for many minutes, but until now there was rarely a need to do so.

WTH i'm getting info? I'm a highlvl/best equipment tank and archer. Yes, tank can keep well, but archer do it much better.
So why bother with so limited and almost useless class ?

Almost only place where tank really shine is olympiad arena, where is no cp/hp potions are allowed.

I play for PvE parties and RB's :p
Thats why I bother, and why I play a "useless" PvP class.
You ain't getting the point, tank is more useful in PVP then in PVE, but both here and there its much better to have someone else, then tank.

On other hand, I won't force anyone to not play a tank if they really want to. Just a warning to those who doesn't understand whole situation. A lot of people doesn't struggle for maximum efficiency, there tank could be welcome.
