Hello, need help with armour/weapon

Human Classes Started Last reply 17 posts
Hello I'm new here. I created a human female fighter today and I got to lvl 12. Now I read somewhere that at lvl 20 u can wear D grade armour. Now with that in mind, what is the best armour/weapon to look for ? I saw there's choice between light armour and heavy but I'm not sure what are the pro's and cons ? I'm goin towards gladiator. It's 20 lvls to wear the armour so I wanna invest in something good, it'll take some time to get to 40. Where to look for it and also will it b hard to find ?
Well , the best way IMO for new Players is to get Into a Clan Academy ! There u can get the Clan Oath Armor ! Fighter... Heavy Armor ! Most Gladiator go Heavy , just a few take Light armor! I prefer Heavy as well! Weapon: Top-D Dual IMO Bastard*Elven , but they are pretty expensive so u maybe shoudt stick with Shadow Weapons... or maybe u can borrow 1 from ur clan!

Not sure it helped u ...if not then i have at least i have raise my POST Score ^^
SDD is right on this one :)

Also with the next update, you can buy everything cheap if you don't care about set bonusses or being able to enchant your armor or weapon.., but what SSD might be the best way :)
Ok, so Clan Oath is the best way. How much do u think I'll have to spend on those pieces of armour and bastard elven ? Just close to what it should b worth, don't wanna get scammed. My bro left me his money so I don't wanna loose all of it.
Also won't it sound strange if I look for a clan, get it and star asking for armour right away ? Hell I know I always hated beggers :)
IMHO a good clan will need to treat their academy members well, get yourself a mentor in the clan and ask if they can help you with the know and how of the Clan Oath quest.

EDIT: maybe they even have a set laying around for new academy members ;)
True beggars is a pain the the butt , but asking for help with a clan armor is not as harsh as begging.

Wait to buy Dgrade wep untill Gracia gets here, can get the Top wep Waaay cheaper then you can now.
and how far away are we from gracia ?
OMG how i hate this SSD stuff ^^

Ahm Leonidar is right in , that armor/Weapons are way cheaper in gracia! those "new" items calles STANDART Items! U pay for a ELS *Elven long Sword* just around 70k insteed of 3,5kk ^^
But waiting till Gracia??? Well i think Gracia will not be live in the next 1 - 1 1/2 months... not sure !
U shoudt get a Clan Oath Armor and *if possible* a Dual Elven*bastard !! Ahm , simply craft it urself : Go to Giran and buy a Bastard Sword and a Elven Sword in Weapon Shop ... then u need some D cry..*not sure how much but u will see how many u need later* then go to a Blacksmith and let him make A FINE SWORD ...
Its a bit cheaper then Buy a Dual in Player Store...
1 - 1/2 month sound long  Its sometime in August.
Still when you turn 20 and do your classchange quest you get shadow weapon coupons, should last you alitle while.
After that just bang away with you NG wep until Gracia.
Ofcourse its your choice but that is what i would have done.
Yeah, I'm not that patient. I'm almost lvl 17 so I should hit 20 tomm. I'll just look around. I posted for a guild if that's no go then i'll just buy somewhere on the market.
U guys are very helpfull, I'm supries a newbie gets so many responses, tyvm
First you say it will take some time to hit 40. Then you say you're not patient enough to wait the 2-3 weeks before Gracia comes out. Seems kinda mixed up to me. If it's gonna take you time to hit 40, then you have time to wait.

You need to adjust your thinking, IMO. D-grade armor is not an investment. It hardly even matters what gear you wear at that level. You could wear a pink tutu and still do OK. D-grade armor offers very little benefit at all, other than slightly higher p.def. Nothing that really helps you level faster or better.

Where armor really becomes important is in the set bonuses. At D-grade, there really aren't really any good set bonuses for melee DDs. I suppose, if you can't get Clan Oath Armor, Brigandine is the best choice, but even that isn't really all that amazing. It gives you more p.def and more hp, but as a glad you're going to be looking for sets that give you better kill speed. None of the d-grade armors do that.

At C-grade, go Plated Leather. It's Light Armor, but it's hands down the best armor for glads throughout C-grade (and a lot of glads even prefer to stay in Plated Leather all the way till A-grade, skipping B-grade completely.) If you decide to go B-grade, Blue Wolf Heavy is the preferred armor for glads. In A-grade, you'll switch to Tallum Heavy.

It's 20 lvls to wear the armour so I wanna invest in something good, it'll take some time to get to 40.

I just want to stress to you that you've got it all wrong. The BEST investment you could possibly make is to SAVE your money, be cheap at D-grade and start saving up for the more expensive C, B and especially A-grade gear. I have got to get this point across to you. Wear Wooden Armor until level 30 if you have to! Don't waste your money on D-grade armor that does next to nothing for you. This game is as much of an adena grind as an xp grind, actually some people argue that it's more of an adena grind than xp.

Leveling 20-40 doesn't take that much time. With newbie buffs and increased xp, it goes pretty quickly. It's not at all an investment compared to C, B and A grades. It's just like a pit stop at some dingy gas station. And when Gracia comes, it will be even faster.

Gracia is just a few weeks away (I'd guess 2-3 weeks). In that upgrade, you can buy D-grade gear from an NPC for a fraction of the cost it is now (like 6k vs. 100k). The best thing you can do is to save your money up for C-grade and beyond. If you can do that by getting in an academy and getting clan oath armor, great! If you do it by wearing NG till Gracia comes out, that works too! Just don't waste your money trying to buy 'good' D-grade gear - because there is none!

First you say it will take some time to hit 40. Then you say you're not patient enough to wait the 2-3 weeks before Gracia comes out. Seems kinda mixed up to me.

I think u misuderstood me, maybe I didn't reply clearly. What I meant was I'll probably b lvl 20 tomorrow. So I can wear D grade right off from lvl 20 through to 40 and not wait around a month to wait for a price to decrease when I will b probably close to 40 or over it. So I might as well buy it now. I have to explain what I meant because I don't want to make a bad rep for myself :)

But u mentioned somethign else that it doesn't really give me any big advantage and I should just skip it, that's a good advice. But how about the sword ? should I get the Bastard Elven right now or skip it as well ?
Unlike armor, weapons DO make a big difference, no matter what level. (For DD classes anyway...)

Use your shadow weapon coupons until they run out, then get the best weapon you can afford.

A hint about shadow weapons - they are on a timer and disappear after a certain amount of time. Every minute you have them out counts PLUS unequipping/equipping consumes one minute. So if you're just standing around in town, going afk, browsing shops, etc. unequip the weapon so that it will last longer. But don't just equip/unequip constantly or you'll be consuming time that way too. Basically, if you're going to be inactive (I.E. not hunting mobs) for longer than 2 minutes, go ahead and unequip. Otherwise, just leave it on.

If you use them wisely, shadow weapons should last you till around level 30. If you're really trying to be cheap, you could even continue to use your NG weapon for another level or two (till about level 22 or so) and then start using the shadow weapons.
aye allways take armor in second place of a weapon, unless ofcourse the armor gives a good set bonus.
Listoff makes several good points.

I know you have a nice little adena trust fund left you from your brother, but you can actually level to C grade without touching it. Just use shadow weapons and don't get so caught up in the "top gear" trap that D grade presents. If something drops in your lap, sure, take it. But don't spend lots at this level. Some of us actually leveled toons through most of D grade using a No Grade weapon and armor. That's how the game was originally designed anyway.

By the way, don't let those 20 or so levels fool you. It won't take you that long to blitz through them. Especially since you have a newb's eagerness and excitement driving you. Set yourself up for C grade and what comes after, starting now.
Yes, ty for good replies, I actually listened to u guys and I let go of "TOP" armour for D grade and just got some pieces from NPC and focused more on lvl'in.
u have to also consider that till C grade - lvl 40 youll be fighting mobs that hit hard and lets say Brigandine makes a noticeable difference vs top NG heavy. less downtime and pot wasting. you'll be able to handle more then 1 mob hitting you if u aggro something by accident. etc.
