Have no idea what I am doing, well I do with regards to the basics of a MMORPG, but with regards to, quickest method of lvlling etc I have no idea
But the reason I am posting is to ask, if you started brand new what do you think would be the most appropriate class to play with regards to enjoying Clan v Clan PvP and Siege etc
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, there are so many good looking classes in the game I am finding it increasingly difficult to actually stick to any one class
Personally I suggest one of the Kamael classes. They are a new race, fighter-oriented and are good both in pvp and pve. Look at the different classes and choose wat you'd like to play.
In a month or so, the new patch will come out and it will be much easier to level, so this is a good time to start.
Give more detailed questions if you want detailed answers though, this game is much too big to summarize in one post.

I think a better thing would be you telling us what you usually prefer to play.
I'm not sure I would suggest a Kamael to be honest. I don't really recall anyone on clan or alliance chat or even in shout requesting a Kamael for a party.
How long can it take to get to say lvl 60? In the current game
I couldn't even begin to tell you.
Reason being, I levelled to 60 in a different time so it was a very long process.
However, there are so many factors. Someone inevitably comes to the forums and says they can get to 60 in 2 weeks, etc. But there is always some factor that they leave out such as out of party buffers, top gear and money, playing many hours per day, arranging many AOE parties, etc.
I would say you might be able to get to 60 in a month and a half. If you work hard. I can't speak for gear however.
But it depends on your play schedule, if you are very "chatty" in game, if you play the market a lot and therefore not leveling, etc.
Also some classes lvl better than others and try not to be an aggro magnet like my toons are and you'll lvl easier plus stick with only 1 toon if ya want 60 that fast :)
With an ACTIVE clan you can make really good progress over the course of a few weeks. Too, they can help you a bit (usually) with some of the lower level gear.
Bluntly, the "problem" with L2 isn't getting to A-grade. The "problem" with L2 is getting 2-300,000,000 adena without cheating.
This will take you a LOT longer than grinding levels in a pack of exp toons.
Begin manoring at lvl 8 if at all possible--this means you will have to study the manor system and incorporate it into your hunting.
So now you have TWO assignments. Find and active clan and join their academy and, learn and use the manor system.
One thing nobody mentioned(that I saw) is the fact we are due to get the Gracia update in 2-3 weeks(?), You will level VERY fast after that point. I see people hitting 60 in a couple weeks tops. Check the news link(top left), under the updates tab you can see everything added to this point in game. Predlude, C1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.
