Is being "Legit" bad in L2?

General Discussion Started Last reply 167 posts
I started to get the impression from whats being said in other places that being a legit player in L2 is something to be mocked for?

Did I miss the boat on this or did this game just go nuts. Yes it took me 4 years to get to 76 get my class changed a sub class and build a big clan.

I have accomplished all this without botting. I have a Rune Clan hall a legit (as far as I know at least) level 6 clan with about 50 active members from mostly NA.

I believe I have accomplished a lot even though I have not become a hero or taken castle. However, the conception is this game is only about PvP so why waste your life with PvE and just bot and get to the PvP part. No matter the take on this is I will never resort to this but I like to know how other legit people feel about whats happening to L2 over time.

Also be interested in Alyra, Spam's and Omega's input from a player point of view when they play since they have to do it legitly.
You just started getting this impression? Have you ever read bla? Being legit has been an insult there for years. Welcome to 2004.
Most L2 players who are in it for all out pvp & to be uber, tend to be the ones who are more likely to cheat.

but...

if you are in L2 for the love of pve, etc....and dont care about being a power user....then they are the ones who dont have as much of a pressure to cheat.

FYI....I play L2 as a pve, casual player :)

PS.....and any clan leaders who support botting, dont deserve to be clan leaders.

You just started getting this impression? Have you ever read bla? Being legit has been an insult there for years. Welcome to 2004.

Why would any relf respecting person read posts on Bla? Nothing worth reading is posted there and its a place where only a specific type of people thread.

Bla is not worth my time or the time of any respectable player. Anything that merits being posted about this game or its community can be posted here on the official forums.

And no. Being a legit players has never been frowned upon or been uncool. Players will always take the short road when they think they can get away with it. and I report every one of them every time I see them. Maybe they'll get what they deserve and maybe they won't.. some people have to be able to get away with it or it wouldn't be happening... but I will never cast my lot in with the type that doesn't work for what they have.

not in games, not in real life. Its a prt of people that fits into everything they do from games to work, to relationships and so on and so forth... some people can see the connection and some people can't... but its still there.

any legit player that feels pressured into botting or buying adena is obviously not a legit player and is better suited for being a statistic of players that do such things.

quite frankly... I am just better than that.
and there wouldnt be any pressure to cheat if the economy didnt suck so bad. :(

I guess it is slowly getting fixed.
I feel so dirty every time I goto that site. As for the economy, as long as ppl are buying and selling stuff you can make money. There are plenty of things you can do to have good equipment. Granted you won't have the special rings and stuff.
I visit Bla for a couple reasons. There is sometimes some good information about your server. Also it's the best place to read up on all the changes coming to L2 in Korea before they are here. Other than that it is chalk full of people who were banned from this forum. I wonder why?

As far as being legit is a mockery, the higher level you are as a legit the worse. People see you as a NOLIFER who just plays all day and the only reason the NOLIFER legit player is high level is because he plays 24/7... like a bot. The botters make remarks that while they are leveling they are living life, getting girls, going to the bars and laugh at the people at their level in game with the same equipment but instead of going to the bars... stayed at home playing the Lineage 2 grind.

Thats what it comes down to. People look down on Lineage 2's PvE content so bad that they disrespect players that actually do it.
Being Legit is having honor.

Not being Legit is being a cheater. People who cheat tend to gather together (as at [censored]) so they can convince themselves that they are still OK people even tho they are cheaters (and I feel that much harsher words than 'cheaters' would be appropriate). A part of how they try to assauge their guilt is by making fun of Legit, honest players.

I believe that any cheating taints everything that player accomplishes. For example, if someone ebays to buy a weapon, all the exp earned from that weapon is tainted. All the levels, the adena, the drops, everything they do from that point on was easier because they cheated, therefore NOTHING they accomplish matters to the legit player. The castles, the hero sparkles, the pvp count, the S80 gear....it is all in doubt because we will never know if they could have earned it honestly or not.

There are lots of Legit folks out there, they tend to gather together, just like cheaters gather together. Birds of a feather....

BTW, I think that is the real struggle in L2...not between clans or races or nations but between honesty and cheaters.
ive made this case 8000 times already.

not going to do it again.
It's what you get when you have a game with this amount of grind, no active GM's to actually enforce the rules. and a horribly horribly designed economy that makes it impossible to make money while leveling.

And to be completely honest, I like normal people who play unlegit better then the ones who will take any chance to tell you just how legit they are, cause they are god **** annoying to listen to.

As far as bla goes, not a board worth posting on, but it has better search functionality, more information on the game, and better quality for the information than this one does.

edit: wow. every decent source of game information out there is apparently censored here >_>
sorry but... Bla?

"Bla" is a shortened version of "L-2-B-L-A-H" (which, when posted unedited, will be censored by this site's filters; I don't recommend circumventing the filtering like I just did, but this is for the sake of example and education).
It's a subsite of the GameGuru network, and a forum which is populated largely by whiners, ******s, immature trash-talkers, and cheaters.
All in all, kind of like the L2 slum district.

The only thing they really have going for them is that a lot of players on there are such cheaty ******** that they live to get their hands on new information about upcoming patches, so they can learn how to most efficiently exploit them when they hit the live servers.

As a result, it's actually a fairly decent source of translated Korean info for new updates.

Other than that, not worth the wasted rackspace their server occupies.
Being legit is considered being a dumb-[censored] by those that are all about uberness and godly PvP rawr wtfpwnd l33t etc etc etc...

I remember times when the goal of this game was to create a character like watching a child grow up.
I think CM Develin (or some name like that) made a post like that back when is game was way less corrupted as it is now.

Advancing back then by means of hardcore PvE was seen as an achievement. Not much so like it is today.

Bla is oke for patch update information. What is posted here are woefully short and incomplete of what you could find there unless a player took the time to copy and past some of that information to a thread here.
Granted what gets posted here usually is the final version but I have yet to see large differences of what gets posted on Bla and the final version here.

Aaah yes the golden years...
What do you mean by legit? Never botted? But if you have been power levelled by friends or if you dual boxed you are not 100% legit...

Is it good or bad I don't know. L2 got such a bad reputation about botting and grinding that those who favor legit stopped playing long time ago.

Now it is too late to change that, if NCSoft was banning the bots and adena buyers they would lose more customers and not gaining back those who left.

Personally I stopped playing because of bots after OB, but I came back one year later, then I stopped and came back again. Now I'm not looking who is legit or not, if bots annoy me I'll report it or try to have them killed nothing more.
Going on 3 years playing this game and highest character is only 72. Might have been higher but went through periods of doing nothing but buying and selling to get new gear and clan hall. IMO it's the want it now crowed. Im also suspicious of high lvl players who call this a pvp game. They either forgot about how thwy got there or skipped that part. L2 is very much a pve with some pvp for excitement, but unfortunatley the pvp has been taken to the extream and many people just hate to loose so they do what they have to to win.

I have not been in a hurry to get 75 and subclass just for the simple fact that I work when Oly is going on. I would never be able to compete enough to make hero so I don't care about that part. AS long as im having fun (which I do most of the time) im good with casual play. After 3 years whats the hurry now.

That's fairly common for any game I ever played, From my experience with EVE-Online, Guild wars, WoW (although briefly), and other minor ones, whenever there's a new update players want info on it.
And most companies are good at taking advantage of that, but when you look at NCSoft their strategy makes no sense, they don't do any advertising, they give us a PTS server and let us grind all over again, and when they finally give us some information on the expansion, it's vague, and not necessarily complete or even correct.
Their website is horribly outdated, and anything that is up to date with information they censor in the forums
Events (actual events, a teleporter cat is not an event) are few an far between.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but I can't help to think just how badly it's being managed, and the potential it has if it was being handled properly
If thats your definition of Legit I can't say I am. Back in Prelude and Early C1 I was desperately trying to gain SP to raise clan level to 4 and 5, so my clanmembers had me sit outside the room while they killed mobs. Thats about the only time I ever AFK-leveled.

However I'm glad theres someone other than me that views even 2 boxing as unlegit. Players are paying NCSoft $15 a month more so they can have 24/7 buffs and an account to sell items in Giran while they are off exping. These players have a huge advantage over us $15 a month players.
they also pay NCsoft a lot more than you do.
Lol and maybe have greater advantage regarding their life time. THe sooner they level high, the sooner they get bored with this game, the sooner will get on with their real lifes and stop playing meaningless games....

4 years m8? 4 years? And you still here?? Oh this world has absolutely no future...
Legit is only bad when botting is allowed in an online game.

last time I checked catacombs are camp'd by bots in L2.
Taking advantage of available resources doesn't make you a cheater in any way, so long as you don't break the rules using those resources.
Oh I am 2 boxing myself... I don't consider myself 100% legit, I have fun in L2 with crafting so levels only matter when I want to craft new stuff.

100% legit is the character raised from level 1 with no friends and no money.... Now when I make an alt I buy them top NG stuff already is it legit? I don't think so.

But nowadays and the way L2 evolved with newbie buffs and equipement, I don't think it makes any sense lol.
I think the cheating gone to far in L2.
If NCSoft hard react from the start may be things would be different but no weven if you petition people cheating they usually don't get ban
(last time I petitionned 2 wellknown cheater, was killing them and rez them will they were afkXping. They were obviously on auto rez, being up before end of rez animation. They are still in game....)
If NCSoft really did want to change things they would have more GM to start with. But customers are still here so what should they care ?

But legit still have a place inthis game, they can accept to play with cheaters or stay aside, but legit are still here. And casual player wich play 2 hours a day can achieve high level (I m 79 noble bh after 3 years)
L2 is not the perfect game and for me bot/ebay is the worst thing in thsi game but unfortunely there is no better game (in my opinion)

You're a funny person...
You've also just proven a few people's points.

People cheat (buy adena/use programs/powerlevel) becouse they can not only get away with it, but becouse they can justify it. People who do that are able to use the excuse that they "have a life" or have more time away from the game to do other things.

90% of those people are so delusional that they even beleive their own lies. Not to Psych 101 you peeps but the term "pathological" comes to mind. They fool themselves into thinking that becouse they do these things that they have a life and thus they can flame the people who do other things...

I am sure that there will be posts following this one saying somthing like "I have a GF and I go and pary all the time" or "I am married and a kid nas still play". dandy... doesn't matter. 90% of these posts are lies and I will assume that the remaining 10% are as well becouse there is nothing anyones can do to prove what they are saying.

Its an INTERNET FORUM... its text... there is no foundation for what people say here. No credentials. No merrit.

People who want to level legit... do so (and know that I am proud of that and respectit it). People who want to "cheat" do so. Odds are you will get away with it, but you'll be just like every other chump out there who did so. You won't have earned what you have and you'll never truly have anyone's respect... not that people's respect would mean much to the likes of you, but you'll still go without it.

anyway, I am done with this thread... It will go back around in circles a few dozen more times before Alyra or one of the other mods locks it (and it gets reposted again later).
Yes there is lack of live GMs to stop the abusers...funny thing is I had a survey after a petition where they said they didn't want negative comments about the customer support team.

What's that for a way of reasoning? You earned that money yourself so it's legit, no matter the toon you earned it on. And dual boxing is legit too as long as you pay for your 2 accounts. People who can't/won't offer it are whining? Their problem, but it's still legit.
Oh I have no problem doing that though in some games it is called metagaming and frowned upon.
I draw the line at the EULA... purchasing 2 accounts does not violate th EULA.
Sadly for people on bla Legit = n00b
They're too busy meassuring their e-egos over there. Really disgusting.
I am legit (never even shared my account), but teon...teon is not legit :)
I'm glad and proud to be in a legit clan (as legit as it is posible), we kick botters at 1st sight not giving a 2nd chance for them to stop (once a botter, always a botter) and ebayers (although they aren't easy to see since they could have been lucky with a drop or craft).

as for our "friends" in the catacombs and necros I like to take the mob express around for 30-60min everyday in a random catacomb/necro to clean some rooms for legit players.

taged or not, if they bot they are going down.

I regulary go to mdt and report some of the lvl 1 light elves with strange names or that has been down there for weeks...they are usualy chars from adena selling companies.

I feel proud of myself having leveled my chars my self and not like some of the "uber" players (if you only could call them that...) that don't give a **** about exping their chars.

In my opinion NCSoft should ban the players that bot 1st and then the farmers...I wonder how many CHs and castles would be free then with no bot...sorry "uber" PvP...clan owning them.
Legit means exclusively playing within the confines of the EULA or easier put "the law". Clear enough for those that think twinking and dual boxing is non-legit even in the slightest? :p
boxing is mostly a question of your credit card as a PC that can run 2+ clients, lets see isnt also adena buying question of credit card? A game should give same chance to all and the rest should metter only on your gameing skills not your credit card or other programs you use...
also, if you party with other player who did buy his char or gear or did bot up his char and so on.. your not legit anymore or are you? :)

there is none true legit player left in this game, there are just still those that try to stay legit and it all depends from how you define "legit" ;)
If the game would be like you imagining in this thread, I think there would be 1 server w/ 1000 online during rush hours.

They should open new 1x server for ppl such like you that loves grind and are hapy about that and allow transfer there for free, all other servers should be made w/ higher exp rate.

and there wouldnt be any pressure to cheat if the economy didnt suck so bad. :(

I guess it is slowly getting fixed.

BS WOW is easy as hell and people Cheat.

Lineage 2 is a Hard core game so it just means more people will cheat.

But there will never ever be a good reason for it it's all BAD!

Cheating is just that CHEATING.

and there wouldnt be any pressure to cheat if the economy didnt suck so bad. :(

you need to go back to where ever you came from...how many 24/7 chars do you have or how much did you pay for your account/char?

all other servers should be made w/ higher exp rate.

It's not allowed to talk about that in these boards.

Back to bla, I know why you guys hate that forum, it's because in these boards pve takes all the place, and mostly pve lovers are here who are saying ''quit the game if grind is too hard'' ''excuses like 'have a life' makes no sence'' all the time.

Btw, you love pve anyway, so why you care about those who're cheating? Are you jelous or smth?

On topic, being a legit does not mean that you're f-a-g(like most of bla thinks), that means you love pve aspect of this game. Other players love pvp aspect of this game but rly rly hates pve, because its too much, so they're cheating.

Few formulas that new players must choose from:
1: l2 + life = pve for 3 years(this game will be dead by that)
2: l2 + life + cheat = fun end game in few months.

Yes LIFE is a factor for new players if you cant afford playing 18 hours a day. And if new LEGIT player comes NOW, when he'll catch up older ones? In 2 years? Sounds rly cool.

I know that new Gracia changes helps to jump lower lvl's faster, but still it's not enough.

boxing is mostly a question of your credit card as a PC that can run 2+ clients, lets see isnt also adena buying question of credit card? A game should give same chance to all and the rest should metter only on your gameing skills not your credit card or other programs you use...

I'm sorry your poor then. Or maybe you spend your money differently?

Please don't equate multiboxing with adena buying.

I've been able to 4 box for quite some time, because I chose to get more computers. It's not my fault you didn't choose to do the same.

Maybe I should start calling all low lvl ppl bad botters? I mean, if they've played the game for this long and still dont have any high lvl characters, they must be bad at setting up their bot program, since they keep dying....

boxing is mostly a question of your credit card as a PC that can run 2+ clients, lets see isnt also adena buying question of credit card?

O_M_F_G, don't you see any difference? With boxing you earn every adena you get, you sit in front of your computer(s) (I dual box on 2 computers) and play the game. So that's legit. Every other consideration is just b___s__t.

A game should give same chance to all and the rest should metter only on your gameing skills not your credit card or other programs you use...

Shall you also say that everybody who plays more than let's say 4 hours a day isn't legit either because he/she has more free time than working/studying people? No real gaming skill in having more free time than others :)
Hello ,
Short to the Topic : Being Legid isnt BAD ... !!! I myself play since over 2 years and get close to 76 finally! I wont get any S garde stuff and i wont be a BIG HIT in PvP , but i dont mind! I started this game with my wife and we still play much time together... Its a game and it shoudt be fun! If ppl buy adena/accounts etc etc just to be ueber in this game cause they wanna PvP THATS the BAD part in the Game *as told here many times b4* !!!
ahhh well if Dual Boxxing is "unleggid" im guilty , but IMO thats not bad! Cause i pay for this account and play with it in a normal way! Some ppl think dual is bad , some say its ok ! BUT thats not th emain problem in this game!! Fact is that a LOT players buy stuff for their Charakters and thats ruined the game in some sort of way!
As told b4 , NC Soft is trying to get thinks better: Just see the new Gracia expansion! New player wont buy adena if they can buy cheap itmes/armor/weapons till C grade ! Its a good step to get new players and maybe stop the adena sell markt... I think this will kick the BOTs butt ... !
Lol i think i wrote enough stuff lol ... just wanted to share my mind ^^
And short to the Topic again!!!!! LEGID player that run a fine clan etc etc etc deserve MORE respect thatn a cheater/botter whatever that has ueber armor/weapon etc etc etc !!! I doupt i ever will be a Hero , not sure i even get Nobel , but at last I HAVE FUN ;)

*lol ... write to much ... no flames plz im overtired :) *

I'm not sure it'll change anything as more people will have more money reaching B/A grade, B/A stuff prices might as well rocket up. The more if bots have protection and farm A/S grade drop places.

You're an ideot to think that this game will be dead in two years... NCsoft has Ct2 updates (Gracia Pt I, Pt II, and Final) that will easily carry us into 2010 alone... not to mention the updates they'll be working on between now and then.

With the scandal involving Lineage 3 there is no real word on whether or not that is even going to happen, and in the mean time, they'll be focusing on keeping L2 running... (I know some of you think Aion is gonna be the next big thing... wrong... apples and oranges. Its like saying Tabula Rasa was meant to replace Lineage)

Also, Lineage frikken 1 is still up and running and you can still buy an account, log in and play it... trust me. L2 has plenty of life left... don't try and scare other people into a rush becouse of your aweful ability to misjudge a game's lifespan.

(****it I had to post again... err )
To answer just to the question: Legit is not bad at all and you have a lot to be proud of.

I myself have been playing sinse the start and am not hero, noble or what so ever yet but did reach 76 and subbed. Many have stated good points on this topic (be it now or the times before) that I won't go into telling what's already been told.

In the end what you and yours do and how you feel about that is the most important for the enjoyment of YOUR gaming. I myself don't care if someone bots or not, it's their choise but I surely will not have it in my clan nore any of our team-ups. All I care is the good fun we have as a clan both on Pve as well as small pvp and to manage to achieve the goals we set to gain in a legit fashion.

To all : Have fun :D
If you stick to EULA twinking, dual boxing and power levelling are legit.

But it's frowned upon by some hardcore gamers, roleplayers or not, who consider this cheating.
I personally hope that lineage 2 stay alife a long time ! Simply love that game ! I played a lot MMORPGs b4 and not even 1 beat L2 !

all other servers should be made w/ higher exp rate.

(****it I had to post again... err )

My point was that new players has to catch up older players way faster, because even now they'll be forced to grind for years... They should reduce exp needed 40-75. And for grind lovers there're plenty of grind left after 76+... To reach lvl 81 now it's same as make 5 chars 1-75 or smth like that... So reducing xp needed for theese lvl's wount affect you!

I'm sorry your poor then. Or maybe you spend your money differently?
Please don't equate multiboxing with adena buying.

boxing is mostly a question of your credit card as a PC that can run 2+ clients, lets see isnt also adena buying question of credit card

O_M_F_G, don't you see any difference? With boxing you earn every adena you get, you sit in front of your computer(s) (I dual box on 2 computers) and play the game. So that's legit. Every other consideration is just b___s__t.

Why not, both are questions of your credit card and if you are willing to invest money that way.
And why you judge me if you don’t know me? Why so much anger?

Shall you also say that everybody who plays more than let's say 4 hours a day isn't legit either because he/she has more free time than working/studying people? No real gaming skill in having more free time than others :)

Now you got it, it all depends from how people define "legit", it’s the same whan you try to define what is "normal" :)

Back to the topic Is being "Legit" bad in L2? - no its not
ppl who bot as they can't cut the grind shouldn't be playing this game in the first place but w/e this is a lost cause

/waits for goldpadlock

However I'm glad theres someone other than me that views even 2 boxing as unlegit. Players are paying NCSoft $15 a month more so they can have 24/7 buffs and an account to sell items in Giran while they are off exping. These players have a huge advantage over us $15 a month players.

Bot users have the same advantage because they xp when they sleep and can trade when they are awake and pay only one account...
Saying that those who can afford more accounts is unfair is tired and worn out. That's the same as saying that those with top-end PCs are unfair because they can run the game better (less lag, loads areas faster, etc). Give that argument a rest already.

Bottom line, if NCSoft allows it, it's legit. That includes scamming, griefing, multi-boxing, twinking, power-leveling, etc. They are legit. End of story.

The question is are legit people looked down upon. The answer, at least off of the official forums, is an unresounding, "yes". I'm not saying it's right or that I agree. That's just how it is. Sly reads bla and knows this. Strange that he would ask this question.
I must say I do find dual-boxing perplexing. The fact that it's bebeficial to do, just shows how badly designed the game is. Design decisions like that just promote solitude. Which just seems bizarre in an online game.
As to how 'honourable' boxing is (haha, srs bsns...) A bought advantage is just that. A bought advantage. If you could do it on 1 account, then it would simply a gameplay choice. As it stands, it's a benefit that one pays a premium for. Make of that you will.

As to the botting, ebay etc. People just do what they want. Simple as that. You see it in every game where people have to invest large amounts of time to progress.
It's more a question of how one values their time. Or at least it is so because the rules aren't enforced as strongly as they could be.
Whatever, none of it really matters. I don't care what people do as long as it doesn't affect my own time in the game. "Getting PK'ed for barely any reason by some emo moron who levels legit is better than by someone who doesn't!" Yeah right...

On a side note, the use of the words 'respect' and 'internet' within the same post is somewhat amusing.
In real life there are rich people and not-so-rich people.

Any single account gives equal opportunities to any other single account.

People who pay the same amount of real money do get equal game opportunities.

It is as simple as that and calling "cheaters" those who legally pay and break no game rule is not a very nice way to make an argument.
only recently did i end up pushing for dual/multi boxing..

before i had one account.....

and i was broke 99% of the time due to being 100% unable to setup a sell shop EVER.

In purchasing another account, i was able to setup a sell shop, at another location, to sit and sell all day and all night.

At which point i was finally able to start up a cash flow. Made my first 100mil within about a month, and nearly 500mil within the first 3 months.

However it's still quite upsetting to know that over half of the likely purchases were probably from cheaters that had "purchased" thier cash.... the other half being mostly made up of dirty adena coming from otherwise legitimate people.

Everyone has specific circumstances in which allow them to do or not do certain things... be it time of day that they play, internet weather that prevents them from playing or remaining connected. Computer power and such....

While most of everyone seems to have ZERO issues setting up a sell shop and walking away, i was never able to do this without either crashing or DCing within a meer minutes of doing so.

However setup on another machine with another account, the problem was solved. As i'm not going to sit and star at l2 all day while i sell stuff and not doing anything else, my computers have other tasks at hand, i just so happened to have an extra unused one.

So while i generally don't like the idea of dual or multi boxing.... it does have in some peoples specific cases... or in all cases, a legitimate nessity to actually be self sufficient in the game.

When seighardt became the lowest populated server of them all, it was basically impossible to find a SE.... you just don't see them around at all, no one appears to play an se or bishop or prophet or any buffer/healer class as thier main ANYMORE. Everywhere you went, you could shout for days and months on end for a se or bishop or ee or prophet.... and never get an answer. So i started developing a se and prophet and so forth.

Other people followed suit.

That's just another case where for example, a larger populated server likely wouldn't have a single hitch with getting these classes. And seighardt at the time was basically never going to happen unless someone DID dual/multi box.

The only cheaters are those who do the following:

Use a 3rd party program that do any of the following either by themselves or in combination:
Automates thier gameplay in ANY way,
The provides additional details of thier surroundings such as Radar discriptions, extended radar, lvl/hp/mp/gear details, or anything else that makes ANY form of changes to the gui that could be used to assist.
Make client side changes that provide a extended set of settings or options not normally available.

Essentially anything that 100% breaks the eula..... not bends...

Account sharing is highly questionable, Essentially if you account share, your account is void of any support related to the deletion of your characters, loss of any items/gear/etc. If the account is shared and used and they are caught cheating in any way, your toast.

That's about as far as anyone needs to go.

So multi boxing is legitimate play
Account sharing is borderline
I play 2 accounts because I want to solo. I solo because I hunt stuff higher level than me so dual boxing fits my play style and I don't steal anyone doing this, I'm even levelling slowier than single accounts.

I don't even make more money but i'm having fun like that so leave me be :)
I don't consider dual boxing soloing. Granted you are tachnically playing by yourself, but you have 2 toons.

I solo alot as well, but it is just with my 1 account and selfbuffs/pots. I am not against dual boxing, but please don't call it "soloing" if you have more than 1 character logged in.

I'm sorry your poor then. Or maybe you spend your money differently?

There are 2 sides to all coins. You judge multiboxers saying they are unlegit.

What I do with my money is my business, not yours. Saying everyone who can do stuff u cant is cheating is really lame.

EULA allows it, I'll keep doing it.

And if you make noise about it, don't blow up when noise comes back to you.
I think that is the root design of L2…Whoever is higher level and best gear, whoever will win the battle in PVP (no real skill involved), that made the lower level players have no chance to against the higher level players in PVP. So in order to enjoy the game (the most selling point of this game is “PVP”), the players need to catch up to the higher level, so some of those players bot, bot for higher level and bot for adena. (Don’t get me wrong, I don’t bot or buy adena and don’t like bot. I am 100% legit, playing the game for 2 ½, the higher toon for me is 67, and still using a C grade weapon – not even a SOM. ^^ I am a PS).

For me the true PVP game, the winning factor is base on the person who is behind the toon, not the level…

The same skill should only have 1 level, no matter what level your toon are, the base skill power is the same across the board…

I agree the higher level players should have some advantage, this can apply to the basic status (STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIT, MEN). For an example: if you are a nuker and you leveling up, your INT, WIT and MEN will increase. When combine with the gear and base skill power of the skill, the higher level players are still have some advantage over the lower level players. (Not like now, higher level players always 1 shot lower level players, lower level players’ attack always went astray)…

So in this case, if you are a lowbie, but you know well in your class, you know when to use the right skill in different situation in PVP. Other the other hand, the higher level toon, the person behind doesn’t know well in his/her class for any reason (may be stupid or BOT), and pick the wrong skill to use, that person may eventually lost the battle to a lowbie. By that, why the people will want to bot to the higher level?

Well, I am not that silly to think NC will change the game like that ( the game is out of the market like years)...Just a thought…Also, no matter how the game design is, the cheaters always have a excuse to cheat and have a way to cheat…

P.S. English is not my primary language; please forgive my gamer and typo…^^
L2 is a game that has many levels of play to it. It's kinda funny for me to read how people see high-end pvp players with being not legit almost across the board. It's true; it's not true. It's probably as true for high-end as it is for middle levels, etc. But there are many that are high level (like myself) that have never used 3rd party programs, rarely, if ever, sat in a party afk while someone "powerleveled" them.

The fact that it is a game and has so many facets to it means that it draws people to play for different results.

As I see it, there is not much interest in the administration of this game, as they have a skeleton crew handling the GM positions and are really just implementing the updates given them by Korea. So, does L2 have a future? Who knows. I hear there are people still playing Lineage 1.

And Bla is a place of lot of information... translations, stats and experiments on new skills and gear that just plain isn't discussed here. The individual server forums are where the real politics of the game comes into play and, yeah, the posts are lots of time pretty silly and such. Most just go there to brag or whine about their latest accomplishments/experiences... only the experienced forum warrior should go there!!! I think it has a real place in the L2 society. Maybe politics isn't your draw to L2, but it is to many.

I meant play alone, some days I only play 20 minutes like yesterday and today, when I play with friends it's for much longer than that.

Call it solo or single or whatever it doesn't matter to me.
Being "legit" is not bad in Lineage 2, in fact it is something you should be proud of. Making 3rd class without resorting to cheating is a great accomplishment. Lineage 2 is a hard game and you have done what few other people have been able to do. You have experienced the game and your character in all its glory and you are a better player for it.

It is sad that some people think "legit" is bad just because it takes some effort. I agree with Word_of_Heaven -- those people really are deluding themselves. They have to cheat to get anywhere in this game and then have the gall to say you suck for playing properly? Oh please. You can tell a lot about the character of a person by the actions they take. If they can't even play a game the way it was meant to be, what else aren't they able to do? Drive? Get promoted? Have kids? If they have to cheat to get ahead, does it stop there? Do they cheat on their exams? Sports? Wives? Monopoly? These people, the ones who skip ahead quickly so they can put others down at any cost, are the real failures. They spend more money getting ahead so they can only play a fraction of the game, sometimes a lot more ($500+, $1000+). They have to be at the top to fill some unfulfilled need in their lives. Most likely a lack of self-esteem. Is it any wonder then that they have to put legit players down? And they do it by citing all of their 'accomplishments' in-game? Of course they've done all that stuff - they cheated to get ahead and cheated to be able to do it before you. Their so-called accomplishments have no merit.

Unfortunately their actions do affect you. Every time you lose a castle because the opposing team is higher level and geared out due to botting and ebaying. Every time your raid wipes because some illegit S80 decides to pick on somebody. Every time you stand up for yourself and are then brought back down by illegit characters with higher levels and better gear. Every time you want to buy something and cannot afford the prices that only an ebayer could. Every time you cannot find a place to play because bots used by farmers to support ebaying have taken all the space. Their actions affect you in both PvE and PvP and unfortunately there is no escape.

As for Bla, the argument is not about which board is PvE or PvP, both boards can do that. Nor is it about who likes PvE or PvP, people can like both. It is about the perception of players towards each other. Bla as a site when it first started out was literally a site with no rules, the whole premise being to be free to flame each other any way you want. But look at the kind of community that attracted - literally, internet scum. No wonder the site is frowned upon.

It doesn't take 2-3 years to catch up. It only takes a few months, even casually, to reach B and A grades. And with Gracia that will be even quicker. The argument about life being a factor is really stupid as even a casual player can have a life and still catch up in a reasonable time and do it legitametly. But for the people that fail to even do that, the easiest part of the game, then I can only assume that they are failures in life as well. Everything and everyone will catch up/on to them eventually.

It is not bad at all to be legit in this game. In fact it is a really good thing.

I think that is the root design of L2…Whoever is higher level and best gear, whoever will win the battle in PVP (no real skill involved), that made the lower level players have no chance to against the higher level players in PVP.

You have no idea about PvP, right? Not the silly 1 vs. 1 PvP, or party vs. party, or the time-wasting daily ganks, but where the stuff matters: the castles, Baium, Frintezza, and so on. Where you have more than 100 people on each side.

There, I'd take 100 legit people in "normal" gear who follow orders over 100 "pros" in OE'd gear and cheated up epic items who do whatever they **** please because they feel so "uber".

In L2 PvP, organisation > gear.

only the experienced forum warrior should go there!!!

I find this statement ironical since any idiot can let loose a string of swear words or racial slurs and call it an insult. The best insults are ones that the recipient doesn't get and everyone else does. That takes chops. Cussing is for rookies.
Hmm, i guess what I meant by forum warrior is you better have a tough skin to post there... a flame ******ant skin, I mean, lol. I would say there is not much "wit" that goes on ...
Way to many essays in this thread.

No one will defend cheaters here because they will be accused of cheating themselves, but let's not kid anyone, there is a reason people cheat in this game.

Leveling is broken, market is broken, classes are broken, both pve and pvp system is broken, bugs up the [censored], and the list goes on.

What other game do you know of that makes it so easy for cheaters (amateur aka botters or professional aka farmers)?

In the end legit people look down on cheaters for cheating in a game and cheaters look down on legit people for being legit in a game like this.
Your arguments are poor m4r1us. Leveling is not broken. If it was broken, you couldn't level now could you? Leveling is tedious. there is a difference.

The market is not broken, if the market was broken and there was no economy, i couldn't make money playing the market, but i do. Just because you can't, doesn't mean it's broken.

Classes are not broken. Just because you play a class that isn't over powered, does not mean it's broken. No matter which game you look at, people will *always* whine that classes are not balanced, that they are broken. It happened in EQ, it happens in WoW, it happens in EQ 2, it happens in L2, they will never please everyone with the classes; however, that does not mean they are broken.

The Pve and pvp system are not broken, how can it be broken? They play very similar to every other mmorpg out there, if you want to say every single mmo out there is broken, go for it, quit playing now though.

Name one game without bugs? Can't? oh i'm shocked.

WoW for one. Tons of bots, even easier there being instanced for the majority. Everquest too, people sell accounts over trade channel constantly. Even guild wars you can cheat relatively easy.

+1 before the Golden Padlock lands
Yes, you are right…I don’t understand the L2 PVP, because I don’t get a chance to understand it….

Like what I said in my previous post, “For me the true PVP game, the winning factor is base on the person who is behind the toon”

So I agree to you about “L2 PvP, organisation > gear”, but you cannot fade out the factor about the different between level. I don’t believe 100 B, C, D and NG grade players (assume all of them following order) to against 100 Heros (I don’t like that term in game) , Nobles and S graders mix and will win…

I participate into some sieges since C grade once in a while, and I tried to follow the order from the command channel, but before I can react to the order, I die because someone 1 or 2 shots me(most of that because I suck ^^)

My point is “level” is 1 major factor (out of so many factors) in L2 PVP and if the players want to enjoy L2 PVP, they need to in a certain level and that is not right…
A-grade will be reached in no time in CT2, by even the most casual players. Putting in anyone below that into the equation is really moving the goal posts. B-graders and below have their place in a command structure during a siege, but it's not on the front lines.

And at least on Teon (and I assume on Bartz as well) there are tons of legit players who are S-grade and even Noblesse. Most of them just don't care enough to participate in sieges or other mass PvP events all that often.
Problem is they way I see it is if you even play casually and not bot or ebay you can still get 70+ in 2 - 3 months and 76+ within 6. Maybe noble within 9 depending on your sub.

Where botters fail to realize is the game wasn't mean to be about pve or pvp its about the social interaction of people. When you bot you miss out on making friendships and fun. Also botters have no loyalty to anyone but themselves they are just there of their own enjoyment.

THIS IS A MASS MULTI PLAYER ONLINE GAME. It is not meant to be anti-social the game revolves around your social interactions, but people miss what these games are truely about just want to play pvp.

What other game do you know of that makes it so easy for cheaters (amateur aka botters or professional aka farmers)?

I'd just like to make a tiny point here and to answer your question with "all of them." Security in MMORPGs is pitiful at best. Most only have account security and that's it. But they also need to protect the game itself on many levels: server communications, client memory, client video output, false client input, and server-side pattern detection and analysis. Cheating is possible in current games, but it is the people themselves who do the cheating.

Where botters fail to realize is the game wasn't mean to be about pve or pvp its about the social interaction of people. When you bot you miss out on making friendships and fun. Also botters have no loyalty to anyone but themselves they are just there of their own enjoyment.

what a game is about is up to the individual player, the way you play it is not the way I play it, there is no "right" way to play it.

And you are definitely wrong about the botters being anti social, they aren't any different from all the other people playing.
I don't mean all the high graders are cheater...I do believe there are alot of legit players are Nobles and even heros (I respect to all those who playing within EULA guideline) and as the same time, I do see a lot of players cheating.
The bots xp very slowly... I noticed on Luna with my dual box and my pole I was outlevelling them very easily. The thing is they never stop so they catch up on the long run.

Gives new meaning to "Slow and Steady wins the race."

The bots xp very slowly... I noticed on Luna with my dual box and my pole I was outlevelling them very easily. The thing is they never stop so they catch up on the long run.

Most of them. not all.

the big bot parties with no SS level slowly, they bring more than they need for a leveling spot to make sure they can handle it for an extended period of time.

But there are also plenty of people who bot "fast"
an example (a slightly funny one) 2 days ago I went with a party to forbidden path, and on our way to find an empty room we found an archmage botting a room by himself(oop healer, recharger, bd, even PoW)

how did we know he was botting?
he forgot to check whatever setting makes you pick up stuff, we picked up about half a million GSS, a LS 76, mil or 2 adena, over a period of 3-4 hours, at first returning every buff round, later logging an alt in on a separate computer and taping the pick-up button down.
You tell me what kind of live player would forget to pick up his drops 4 hours in a row while spamming sbsps, spirit ore for pow and probably elixirs too
Bots are mostly made for money
How did you know that he needed to "check" something? Sounds like your experienced. =O

Bots are mostly made for money

You mean bots are mostly made OF money.

And happy birthday, KoD! :D
*confetti, fanfare, confetti*

There are 2 sides to all coins. You judge multiboxers saying they are unlegit.

EULA allows it, I'll keep doing it.

And if you make noise about it, don't blow up when noise comes back to you.

You did not understand and take it personally again. I didn’t judge anyone, fyi I use box too. :)

I try it again:
with second account you buy advantage (to make your xp easier/faster ..., your able to do staff you would not be possible for you to do with 1 account) witch you pay with currency that has nothing to do with the game itself…. The same way works adena/char/powerlevel buying -> you buy advantage for you with not ingame currency.

What I do with my money is my business, not yours. Saying everyone who can do stuff u cant is cheating is really lame.

This could apply also to adena/char/powerlevel/programs buying/using ...

yes eula allow lot of things but if those that did write and create eula ignore it, why should we care?

I dont want to tell anyone what is letig or not legit, the game is too broken for that and its too late.
Wow, a 180? lol

You equate multiboxing to adena buying, then you tell us you multibox yourself, and now you dont want to tell anyone what is legit or not?

Maybe learn to [censored] then?

I try it again:

Bad try imo. Try again. Insert coins :)

Just a hint: stop comparing buying 2 accounts and buying adena. As stated before, with 2 accounts you still have to earn adena and equip your characters by playing the game. With adena buying, you get your stuff without even playing. Moreover, having 2 accounts is just the same as playing with a friend all the time.
IMO if you use soulshots, healing pots, any form of consumable you re not legit. And it is so cause I said so.

Get over yourselves people ...
LOOOOOOOL

Bad try imo. Try again. Insert coins :)

nah, Ill give up, is the same as trying to explain why some classes need boost, ill just go and talk to a wall :D

how did we know he was botting?
he forgot to check whatever setting makes you pick up stuff, we picked up about half a million GSS, a LS 76, mil or 2 adena, over a period of 3-4 hours, at first returning every buff round, later logging an alt in on a separate computer and taping the pick-up button down.
You tell me what kind of live player would forget to pick up his drops 4 hours in a row while spamming sbsps, spirit ore for pow and probably elixirs too

Well maybe he didn't care about the drops. When I was leveling in VOS a long time ago there was I believe a SH killing in one spot but never pick up his loot. Every now and again he would shout for some one to pick it up because his lag was so bad. I did a couple of time and picked up over 6 mill adena each time. Maybe your archmage made his adena a differant way. Maybe in the market you can't say for certian other than he didn't pick up his drops. Most nukers or archers dont pick up until they are don't xping. And if they are rich they might never pick up.

I did a couple of time and picked up over 6 mill adena each time.

I have to get high enough to go to VoS.... :o

Yep, like playing with a friend all the time that doesn't care about exp after level 60 and will willingly aid you OOP. Oh and all he wants is a +0 Homu +Accumen, +5wit, karmian robes and lux shop jewels. Thats his end game. Man, I wish I had friends comparable to that!

What are you talking about? You're the only one talking about OOP. For my part, I don't use OOP characters. Just 2 chars, wolf & hatchling.
I've played L2 since Beta and I left this year and now I'm back to try Gracia because I left the game because I hated the grind and I'm more casual than hardcore.

My main is a 71 SPS and my alts a 66 SE and 44 SWS and yes "I'm legit"!

Thanks to this kind of topic I left the game the last time.

PS.: I have to update my signature :o
Most get burned out grinding in this game, but as of late i'm getting burned out posting and talking on these boards. We just seem to talk and talk and go around in circles.

Also be interested in Alyra, Spam's and Omega's input from a player point of view when they play since they have to do it legitly.

You know they won't say a word, they can't they are NC staff :)

the grind doesn't burn me out but botters telling me I should stop being stupid and join them does

also NC Soft isn't banning any non "gold" farmer bot as that would hurt their revenue a lot (more then 50% of all NA players uses 3rd party software)..

w/e 5 days to go then I can no longer post here :p

and many of those have right. how many of the buff pets that you see aren't on bot mode?
I'll never comprehend how people equate boxing to botting. Baffling. Really.

EDIT: Players are doing more for killing their ability to have fun in this game than botting or NC is. Get off your horses and boxes and just play the **** game. Stop comparing yourselves to cheaters. Learn to be proud of your accomplishments and sthu. Or quit.

I never said that all boxing is botting, but many of them are.
I box 4 accounts almost dayly.

boxing is mostly a question of your credit card as a PC that can run 2+ clients,

Boxing is not a question of your credit card.

First, I can run 2+ clients on a computer you would hardly find useful to play L2 at all.

Second, it's not huge money anyway. If you cannot even afford a computer that can play several instances of L2 client, maybe you should work more on improving your financial situation instead of wasting your time playing L2?

lets see isnt also adena buying question of credit card?

Of course it isn't. First of all, it's the question of breaking EULA.

also, if you party with other player who did buy his char or gear or did bot up his char and so on.. your not legit anymore or are you? :)

Party "with" or party "against", if you personally don't break EULA, you are legit. Simple as it is.

But of course if NCsoft thinks that you may have some IRL association with the owner of that toon (say, sharing their account, or paying them IRL money for powerlevelling), you could be banned too.

there is none true legit player left in this game, there are just still those that try to stay legit and it all depends from how you define "legit" ;)

Stop making excuses. It does not really matter how you personally define "legitness" for yourself, there is still a line you know about, and when you cross it, you become unlegit. Period.

boxing is mostly a question of your credit card as a PC that can run 2+ clients, lets see isnt also adena buying question of credit card? A game should give same chance to all and the rest should metter only on your gameing skills not your credit card or other programs you use...

lol, youre credit card has nothing to do with whether or not you are a legit player.

People with no money blame the people that have money for spending it on what they enjoy... granted buying adena is cheating no matter how you slice it.

But boxing? grow up... I could EASILY afford to spam RL $$ on adena and not think twice about but I don't becouse its frikken cheating and I have to look at myself every morning when I wake up and bruch my teeth... if I were the type of chump that couldn't earn what I had in a **** game than I couldn't bring myself look in the mirror...

And its like some OP have said... if you are so destitute that you cant afford more than 15$ a month for game time that you should focus more on your monetary problems than who is and who isn't cheating in L2... get your priorities set...

They don't.
This is a vapid argument at best.

One is cheating according to the game and most players--botting (along with ebaying).
The other is not cheating by the same measures.

There is no debate, there is no confusion.

There are simply cheaters who like to bring up the issue to a) make themselves feel a little better, and b) to confuse any discussion about cheating.

This would be very like arguing that "investors" are equal to "bank robbers".
Nope, they aren't. And everyone but a few worthless cheaters knows it.

edit: okay, advisedly I shouldn't have said "a few"--cheaters in L2 vastly outnumber the legit players.

Do you made yourselves feel better stating this bull [censored]? My (or anybody else) money situation shouldn't be your problem. There is nowhere written in EULA that you have to pay for 2 accounts in order to play on the live servers. Maybe I could afford it if I wanted, but I have my priorities set well, I prefer to spend the money on my boyfriend, friends, tours, clothes, anything else. Nobody asked you to evaluate the monetary situation of other players.

And I hate all this bull [censored] about "don't touch this class without 2nd accout - buffer box". I thinks that's the dualboxers are wrong, and the more people dual/trio/whatever boxes the harder it will be to have a party, and even more people will dualbox. It's the endless cycle, and yes, boxing is as harmful as botiing.

This is MMO not a single player connected to net. But the dualboxers don't see the difference, right?
About boxing it's been frowned upon by many MMOs. When L2 started you could not start 2 clients on the same computer and you could be banned if you did. Now it's allowed but still some players consider it cheating.
I 4 box everyday, and to tell you the truth, I really don't see any LFG shouts at my xp spots. It's kinda hard to give ppl a spot in my party if I don't know they're looking right?

And on Phoenix the party matching system is just another sell store lol.
I use party matching on Phoenix. And I shout in towns, not outside.

I've used the party matching system to find all of my parties and to find new friends. You should try it sometime. How hard is it to open a room requesting some classes, minimize it and wait for people to PM you about your party invitation or would like you to join their party?

I've hunted in IoP with LFG system on looking for EE or SE all the time and I get someone willing to party with me within 20 minutes to an hour. Meanwhile I'm doing what I can by myself. If everyone did this more often there wouldn't be such a need for boxing. A prophet in the LFG channel WILL find a group.

I didn't make anything my bussiness... I repsonded to a post about people who box being regarded as people who play with their credit card...

dual boxing is where I draw the line personally... boxing more than one account is a tad bit suspicious to me (not that it can't be done legitimately) and resembles botting a lot. It is also much harder to distinguish from botting.

When it comes to finding a party... tough luck... no one had a problem finding a party in c1-3... the game was packed full of players of all classes that were always looking for a party.

now the game is less populated and has far less players. There aren't always buffers handy. And while I do box a single buffer... I would almost always take a live player if there was a choice... but you know what? I hanv't heard "SE/EE/PP/BP LFP" in years... in fact, I hear the opposite. People are often shouting for healers or buffers and they are no where to be found.

and "dualboxers" are not a cohesive group. I imagine most peopel box for different reasons. Some people becosue they like to go it alone, and some people becouse they can;t find buffers to party with.

90% of the high end content of this game CANNOT be done without a healer buffer... and parties that need one have no room for an OOP unit. but there are very few buffers at those levels.

just fyi I tri box, its called macros

On my dd's i have 2 macros
Attack macro:
/target *name*
/assist
/attack

second macro
Follow
/target *name*
/attack
/attack

there ya go two macros to allow you to dual box or in my case tri box, yeah it may look like botting but its not I run all my secondary toons on macros unless its a buffer.

and there is a VERY distinct differnce from botted toons and dual boxed toons, when the player is botting there is NO delay between mobs and the followers attacking, then they are dual boxing there is a always a Slight delay due to macros, people switching screens, ect both in primary toon and the dual toon. there is always a way to tell if you stand there and watch them for a min to see thier actions
i suggest you change that macro to:
/target main
/assist
/attack
/delay x
/target main
/target main

takes some twinking to work out the delay when you go to a new area but saves alot of time switching screens
Just like I said, I'm shouting/partymatching. I found some parties/friends this way, I'm EE. Maybe I'm too low level for most people to notice (5x)

I hope with the new update there will be even less problems with LFG. Meanwhile, while I'm LFP I'm fishing.
I *only* dual box when I cannot find a live buffer/healer. I despise dual boxing to be honest and anyone that knows me will tell you the same. But there is such a lack of live healers/buffers it's ridiculous.

We spent one night looking for a healer for an hour for 70+ rift, one place in which I will NOT dual box ever. It's too fast and I worry someone will die.

With the new update and newbie buffs until level 62, I think it's bound to get worse, not better to be honest.

Oh and one more thing? When my bishop was my main, do you know how many folks would NOT party with me? Didn't want to share xp with someone "who just sat around and healed". Yes, I've heard this many times over. One dude actually LEFT a party because a healer joined.
I think that the newbie buffs till 62, and the new inquisitor stance will help at last healers to level a bit while they are waiting for a party.

I have tried looking at the party matching system. It's an advertisement billboard for ppl that wanna sell stuff.

I'll just party ppl that shout near my xp spot. If they shout...

Then you seriously fail at L2. If you can't tell a bot from a boxed toon, just quit now. Seriously. It ain't that hard. Two seconds of observation should tell you which is which.

amen :D

Well, I don't know about Phoenix, but on Bartz, the Rift is filled with healers getting their own solo/duo xp. [in fact when a regular rift group comes through it's usually only because they're trying to level crystals] Maybe that's why you couldn't find one?? They were already there ??? :)

I never really had this problem, since I was in a tight clan when I was leveling up... but in the later levels (after that clan had fallen apart) it was funny to be put in a group as a "favor," because they were sure I was just dead weight, only to find out how much smoother the xp went ... It was pretty funny, as I was generally asked to be put on their friend list at the end of the party, now that they had been "converted."

Well to be honest ... alot plays their main "legit" and has their buffer/healer on "walker"

So it could be really hard to see if its totally legit or half-legit or un-legit ...

Some even say they play legit ...even if their buffer is on walker, since they play their main legit.

PS I'm a 2-box addict .. but i always play my toons in 2-window-mode .... both manually, making healing in crises .. very difficult.
I play my main on my main system and my Buffer on a Laptop (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1720?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs) I keep right next 2 me. With the help of macros it's easy play both almost at the same time but I'm still not as fast or as efficient as some one using walker.

So it's easy 2 tell who is using Walker and who is 2boxing and there is nothing wrong with 2 boxing. I do try group thou and with the new update it's a lot safer to have a live healer/buffer. with the mobs using SS and UD it's a lot harder to 2 box in the catta's now.

I tried it on PTS and I just can't play as relax as I use 2 once you hit A grade and go Witches. Spawn rate is crazy now also so you can easy get ganked.

I have better gear on PTS then I do on live and I got Ganked by the mobs.

What do you mean by legit? Never botted? But if you have been power levelled by friends or if you dual boxed you are not 100% legit...

I beg to differ.

If you are sitting at your desk while an outside program runs the show, you are NOT legit. If multiple persons are playing one character to level him/her, you are NOT legit. If you are paying real life ducats for a third party to level that character, you are NOT legit. Further, if you have used said ducats to purchase a pre-generated and multi-leveled toon, you are NOT legit.

However, if you are sitting at a desk and actively depressing function keys to obliterate mobs, thereby increasing your XP, you ARE legit. If you have someone in game actively assisting you in that effort, you ARE legit. If you are using a second account and character that you leveled to grind/buff with one of your other characters, you ARE being legit.

Any questions?

Frankly I like the botters. Well, I like running around finding their dead bodies and reporting them.

Yesterday i kind off liked one of them too.... he forgot to pick up a pair of Tallum boots, and just left them on the ground for me to pick up...

It's still easy to see if the buffer or what ever following the main is in bot mode or not.

The way it autofollows is way different from /target /target.
The distance is also different (sure you can spam a skill with 600 range and it will follow you at 600 range).
The way it buffs and heals may also tell you if it's botting or not.
The way it assists will tell you if it's a bot or not.
If it runs and sits down and then stand up again to follow the main and then sits down again all the time while the main is going on like he isn't controlling more than 1 char it's also a strong indication of botting.
Dual box runs behind you, as oppose to bots who run along side u. The distance is different too.

Most of the time you wont see a boxed char run up to the mob, only to pause until the main toon hits it.

Bots buff one buff at a time, boxed buffers tend to buff every buff needed ahead of time, as oppose to buffing them as they fade.

Im boxing a bishop atm for heals (and a few buffs) and he pretty much never sits :)
Honestly, people, if you cannot tell the difference between a boxed and a botted toon, please don't demonstrate your ignorance by claiming they look alike. Really, you're about as stupid as the A-Grade toons I used to see in Giran asking where the lux shop is. Quit embarrassing yourselves.
being legit is not bad in l2. and those that talk back to you about being legit like saying "everyone bots" or "bot is acceptable" those people probably bot themself. if you see bots, and suspect there are bots, just report them. it is sad that there are more buff box bots than before. check out VOS is one of the place; bartz server. botters doesn't care about legit.

the word legit isnt dead, if others does, that their problem.

I think you're plenty embarassing enough for all of us.

its not as easy as you might think. Especially all the bots that are using shots now and the players that just have /allblock on... you can't talk to them and if yu do they don't respond. They use shots and have a party of 2-3 toons follwoing around them on maccros... that sounds to me EXACTLY like what a bot party looks and acts like...

Now I know you'd like to think that your "expertise" lends you some credence into how bots are obvious... but players seem to be going out of their way to blur that line.

rather than wasting your time getting thousands of posts here on the forums you should take a little time in game and see all the changes that you've clearly missed and stop spouting your inefectual "advice" on how different things should be when they arent.

And since 90% of Teon doesn't evne bother to drop clan tags to bot now ther is almost know way to tell whos is and isnt't a violator these days.

Using shots and not talking is how you determine who is a bot? Jesus, you're worse than I thought.

Just a hint, autofollow looks NOTHING like how bots move. Have you watched them with the official client?
Sorry but Elrohir is correct: Bots use coordinates to travel, so they all tend to 'stack up' up one another and mobs, boxed players don't, and it's beyond bloody obvious to tell when somebody is on autofollow since L2 has possibly the WORST autofollow mechanic of any game out there.

Trying to say they look alike is just plain ******ed. I will agree that boxed people and bots may ACT the same or similarly, but they sure as hell do not LOOK the same.

Anybody who has played this game for more than a year or two can recognize a bot and an antisocial player on site. Doesn't take much really, just some simple observational skills and a lack of ignorance to human behaviour.
yea .. sorry. but if you can not tell what a "bot" is in less than 60 seconds, you clearly live in a closed world. Now only if we can get NCNA to figure out the same......
Honestly lets look at some other characteristics of a bot vs a box.

A bot tends to stop right before the mob, then attack, a box, especially an assist macro, will run right up and whack the mob.

A bot buffer is constantly buffing, even midfight and while on the move. People boxing buffers tend to stop moving altogether and only the really stupid players buff while in combat.

Bots all stand on top of one another, regardless of class, autofollowed buffers/healers always stand away from the main assist/target because of the terrible autofollow system mechanics mentioned earlier.

The list goes on. If based on these three simple and blatently obvious characteristics, you still find it difficult to tell the difference between a Bot vs a Box, then either EVERYBODY on your server Bots, or you've never actually seen a Boxed player.

Those are good examples, and all those bots stupid to do that should be banned. There have been players who have botted their buffer in a group and they botted it like it was a live 2box. They can apparently set distance requirements so players don't look like they are on top of one another.

Botter groups are easy to tell, botted 2boxes can be a little harder if the player does it right, but most are too lazy and feel safe enough to probably tell you outright they are botting.
This is our Clan guide to botting:-

1. Drop clan tag - we don't want you in clan

2. Delete your Forum and Vent accounts.

3. Delete all of your current friends from your friendlist, as you wont
need anyone's help/conversation as you wont be in front of your
keyboard any more.

4. Find your favourite bot program and use it 24/7

5. Become uber level character and join another clan - we don't want
you back, thank you.

That's all folks.

LMAO I love those rules

BTW
the buffin while in combat thing, dependsing on what screen ( i have 2 pcs) i have my buffer on, where im lvling (the smaller the area the closer the mobs are) and how focused I am on the game at that moment depends on if I buff while in combat, On a really good day when Im acaully focused on what Im doing I can fight mobs and buff wheile hunting all at the same time, does that make me stupid? NO! that makes me a multitasker, I will say that 85% of the time im NOT focused enough on what Im doing but the other 15% of the time I can easly buff and fight. also if your playing a live buffer and are good at it youll learn how to be a battle buffer. When I activaly playied my prophet as a main the parties i was in NEVER stopped for buffs, we kept hunting and I kept buffing as they hunted and moved around. I would then go find a peaceful area close to the party to sit to regen my mp. its not that hard to buff while fighting.
MysticMare, the problem with buffing/healing why in combat is the aggro switch, not the fact that you do 2 things at the same time.
It's not a problem unless your buffer is naked.

If you have 2 buffers or 2 players that has gone afk for few minutes to get something to drink or got a phone call or what ever, they will stack on top of each other behind you since you no longer colide with other players.

Even if the bots set a distance requierement and get invited to your party by someone it's posible to see it's a bot, but it can take some time to see it since you don't pay so much attention to each party member.

It has happened to me twice that I have gotten invited as healer to parties that used botted buffers and DDs...no need to say that I did a return as soon as I noticed it and sent in a petition about it.

We spent one night looking for a healer for an hour for 70+ rift

Well, I don't know about Phoenix, but on Bartz, the Rift is filled with healers getting their own solo/duo xp. Maybe that's why you couldn't find one?? They were already there ??? :)

I can break my Hero Rift soloing to help people form a group for 70+ rift.

However, I doubt I will party with this particular clan again any time soon. They aren't "bad" people, they are just too childish for me to bear.
"only the really stupid players buff while in combat."

Whoa? Really? Because I buff on the fly all the time. Especially in catas where you don't want to lose the room balance by leaving the room and buffing in a smaller party.

People are a little bot paranoid now, though with good reason. Prime example is myself and several clannies were xping in Martyr's. Obviously we all have the same tag. Right in the first room. TWICE it happened. People stopped and went "bots??" Bah....like we told them, "DO WE LOOK LIKE BOTS TO YOU???"

LMAO I always that that was funny also. Unless they were S grade then it just wasn't funny any more. :D

only the really stupid players buff while in combat.

Not Nice and not always true. My main is a dagger Sub Glad and both do enough damage that I can buff while fighting and not loose argo. It Just depends on your setup. Plus my SE don't use an Acumen weapon so he don't buff fast enough 2 draw argo.

I think the real problems is "the ones that can't tell" the difference is because the simple fact is they don't 2 box and don't give a [censored].

A friend of mine handles it in a way I wish I could he pks them then ask "still think I'm a bot?" ;)
Ok you're right, it's not always a dumb idea to buff in combat, just my experience playing a Prophet since Beta, rarely ever did me any good :p

What I meant by the statement was not a generalization but in reference more to the true noobs or just plain ******ed people who start buffing or healing right as a fight starts and then die.

Used to see that a lot in ToI some time back, so my bad for the generalization there, was mostly an example to the dude who thinks Boxes = Bots ><

Iin a two-box scenario it's not as bad, but I still tend to always try to be out of combat and stationary when I start buffing, just creates less hassle that way.

Also Ashley I love your friends response to the 'bot?' question :p

It just comes down to whether or not somebody actually takes the time to pay attention or just automatically assumes they know everything and starts pointing the bot stick at everything that moves.
I was doing 2 rooms in apostate once (dps too high to only do one room) and a guy logged in and immediately said:

"No need to spam shots just coz I appeared..."

I told her thats not why we spam shots, and asked if she was implying that we botted? She chickened out in the end and went about her business.

I think next time someone might get a few soulshots in the face instead.

hehe....I have done this a few time.....I find it funny, someone calls me a bot. I turn and kill them and say "Dude you just got killed by a boat" :p

I have had that happen to me to.
IMO that is the great advantage to having a GOOD pp in party, is doing it on the fly and in combat... your buffs are always freshened as needed; usually, with what is going on, you hardly notice... That is how a PP should do their job.

EDIT: I'm really am getting old. I thought I was posting in the Remove Prophets thread!!! Forgive me!! :)
Same here. I always buff ppl during combat, stopping and waiting is a waste of time and usually DDs have built up that much aggro that my little buffs won't pull anything to me.
Actually it isn't that easy to tell a bot from a player right away unless you're dealing with large groups. You'd have to watch for a little while.
A boxed char and a botted one share very similar characteristics, trust me on this.
If your buffer isn't buffing on the fly, buy buff scrolls and kick them from group. If your healer is sucking it up bigtime (i.e TheObfailure <3 =p haha) kick her from group and pk her for being lame.
lol, good try shadow! The obfailure my patooties!!!!!

I think you're plenty embarassing enough for all of us.

its not as easy as you might think. Especially all the bots that are using shots now and the players that just have /allblock on... you can't talk to them and if yu do they don't respond.

Using shots and not talking is how you determine who is a bot? Jesus, you're worse than I thought.

Just a hint, autofollow looks NOTHING like how bots move. Have you watched them with the official client?

I know you're already pretty high up there on your horse, but take a momment to calm down and you'll realize that I never said I couldn't tell the difference... I said that boxing more than 1 toon maes it more difficult to tell...

If you make the jump from that to being unabe to tell the difference alltogether than that sounds like an issue you need to work out.
By the way. There are players who don't always use shots.

I very seldom use shots, just 1 example

Me on my BH. Not due to money.. but when spoiling on low hp mobs. ^^

You never thought on maybe telling that person before you kick her out of group what he/she is doing wrong, and how to correct this?

By the way. There are players who don't always use shots.

When I'm down in a catacomb/necro and I clear the room to fast for the respawn and there is no other room nearby to pull from I usualy turn off my shots to balance it.

And as for the buff thing. If someone has a SE with them and you buff them with improved movement it's fast and easy to see it the SE is on bot mode or not.
If it starts to spam buffing wind walk it's a sure sign and a good way to burn the MP of the healer/buffer.

If a higher level healer doesn't know what they are doing, then they don't need an explanation.

There are few things worse in game then watching a party member die because the healer you invited to your party wasn't paying attention/went afk without telling anyone/is too busy talking in ally chat to do their job.

And yes, I've seen all three happen before.

they might also have been unlucky and gotten a lagg spike. it has happened several times

Going back to your original quote, you said "boxing more than one account is a tad bit suspicious to me (not that it can't be done legitimately) and resembles botting a lot. It is also much harder to distinguish from botting."

And I simply say that anyone who thought I was botting my SE and BD after watching me for two seconds is an idiot who is too stupid to play L2. The more toons you box, the less it looks like botting. Nothing suspicious about it. And yes, I played all three accounts from one computer. It ain't hard. So take your suspicions and shove them up a petition.

By the way. There are players who don't always use shots.

When my BH is hunting with my wolf my Wolf use shots but my BH don't does that count as not using shots? :p

and you asked me to shut up about the wolf? :p

if that count as not using shots then I don't use them on my paladin + wolf :p
i like buffing a higher lvl buffs that the box/botted buffer can't override and is permanently stuck in rebuffing that same buff continuesly..

best is usually a buff that takes alot of mana

Thanks for coming to my rescue!! But Shadow is pretending to be a mean SOB and a hardliner but he's a teddy bear. ^^ You didn't get his joke.....

I am just better than that.

the bla community is better than the one here.

yes its flame house, and insults, but its true to the game.

it has more indepth information, tactics, strategy, tips and tricks in pvp / pve than the official forums ever could supply.

whilst this is no insult to the official forums, l2bla is a community that is policed by its gamers. when the gms failed to step in and ban all the bots (its seems to be now tho) then it became a sad and widely accepted policy to bot to get to the end game content.

i have heard that the new gracia vitality ssytem will go to come great length to edging the botting down, and also the use of vr herbs will also make some ppl shy away from botting a support at all.

this is one of the best games made in the mmo market to this day, and its taken time, but seems to be getting there which is great for old and new players.
the only thing I can see on bla is "how do I use [bot program name]?", "I have been baned for botting", "where can I buy adena", "want to sell my account"....and the list goes on...
