Sadly, negotiations are at an impasse. The chief negoatiatorfor the Colombians(Juan V.) is demanding that the US collect and transport every copy of "Battlefield Earth" and "Princess Mononoke" that exists in any medium to an active volcano and dump them in. From what I understand, the thinking is that the act of removing those cinematic abortions from the public domain would trigger unheard of goodwill towards Colombia, and mark them as the true leaders of the free World. It should also cause millions of Scientologists/Anime snobs to off themselves. At that point humanity could usher in an era of peace and understanding that would make Sangri-La look like a common ghetto. Again, more international clout for Colombia.
The problem?
We're willing to hand over those titles, but the US delegation wants to include every Nicholas Cage movie after "Guarding Tess" as part of the deal. The Colombians balked because they felt that "Bringing Out the Dead" wasn't, and I am directly quoting here, "[...]a complete [censored] failure. It had its moments." In addition they communicated through third party intermediaries that, "[Martin] Scorsese is the mutha-[censored] truth that can whip the piss out of Luc Besson, yo!"
No idea where that last part came from in regards to our current situation, but I will take their word for it. We'll work out our differences and see where we land. God willing there will be a Frappuccino in the hands of every man, woman, and child by the end of the week.
