LOL, I heard a rumor man never walked on the moon... rumors must be true!
"Massively and Joystiq have learned that serious shakeups may be in the future for the Austin game development scene"
Lineage 2 Austin offices have nothing to do with development. They simply maintain the servers for us and 3 times per year put out a korean approved event, which can hardly fall under the term development team. The first article shows NCSoft is still in the green which they attribute to shutting down private L2 servers. Your post is misleading.

How is it misleading?

This is what I posted:

This is what the the site prints as the rumor:

A well-placed source with the company reported the studio's position to Joystiq, confirming similar information provided to Massively by a trustworthy third party. According to our sources, any or all of the following may be in the works:

NCsoft Austin will be closed , with work on Tabula Rasa to be moved to the West coast. Dungeon Runners is apparently to be closed. Los Angeles is home to the development-in-the-dark Carbine Studios effort, while the San Francisco area is home to the City of Heroes development team. Seattle, of course, plays host to Arena.net and Joystiq reports that's where TR will be headed.

And again, it is just rumor. But I stated what I read from this site.

Read the entire article again, starting from the top. What they are discussing, as printed, only affects the NCSoft Austin DEVEOPMENT TEAMS. Considering this is a lineage 2 forum and the servers are GMs are housed in Austin your announced rumor , as stated, could make people believe you are saying either lineage 2 servers will be closed for NA or that they will be moved. The article has nothing to do with this game or the continuation of lineage 2. What you are quoting is taken out of context.

Again: "In fact, industry insiders have indicated that the NCsoft home offices may be considering closing the Austin studio."

So "yes" it indicates twice closing The NC Austin office and what they also call "The NC Austin Studio". However, there is nothign to say that they won't keep Lineage 2 staff there OR move them. My company recently purchased another company. They closed the office but moved the staff that had to do with a particular project to other offices. So, assuming that they are closing a developement studio there, why can't they also relocated L2 staff? Especially if they are paying a lot for that space?

It is not misleading but it invites (assuming that it is possibly true) speculation.
I'm either blind or I don't see L2 listed anywhere on there.

Who cares about Tabula Rasa?

Let them close the office and move to Chicago (the cool place to be), that way I can apply for jobs there ;). It's probably hot as hell in Texas anyway.

You are absoutely correct and what I think SalElf is pointing out, there is no L2 indicated. But that (assuming there is truth to this) doesn't mean that they won't move that staff. Or they could very well [edit] keep that staff there. There is nothing to stop them from moving it.

Or they could move to Boston area to keep their eyes on Turbine and "I" can apply to a job there. :D

I'm handy with a broom
I can agree with this post :)
My initial thought on reading your original post was thinking you were saying lineage 2 was going to close according to those rumors. That is why I made the posts pointing out some could come ot the wrong conclusion from what you said. A company could move its offices at any time and I would not be mad about the Chicago idea; I should get better pings if it were in Chicago. Has anyone else noticed a dramatic change in ping times recently? On gustin and when phoenix first opened I was pinging around 40-50 consistantly. Now I average 90 or more and haven't changed anythign with my ISP or computer and have done ping tests/bandwidth speed tests and can't find a reason for the change.

lol I forgot Turbine was in Boston. Yes, please move NCNA HQ to Boston, because I'll be moving there soon as well. I might be able to apply for a job if I spoke Korean instead of Japanese :P

Thank you sir and sorry for the confusion! ;)

Now we all go out for beers and celebrate our new Jobs and at NC and better Ping.

Welcome to the Boston area :)
Bring those offices to Florida! cheap labor + im here ;D
I'm bewildered that even with Lineage 2 like it is... that they always miss mentioning Lineage 2 in news articles. Especially when you can see Lineage 2 is bringing in about 25x income as Tabula Rasa. I'm surprised Lineage is bringing in close to what Lineage 2 is bringing in, thats interesting.

lol, if you spent years grinding up a character (and I am led to believe that Lineage had a very very hard grind) would you quit :p
Well not speaking about L2 in media is not good, on the other hand no news >> news about "NC shutting L2 service for NC/EU regions" :)
L2 used to be based out of CA when the game first started, I belive, now it's going to return? could be.
Read in the news that NCSoft laid off 21 people in the Austin office, seemed to have been from the department involved with development of things not brought to public attention. Go to MMORPG for the full story.

While it is unfortunate that those folks lost their positions, it seems like those projects had simply run their course and were cancelled. No big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Well, except to those people who lost their jobs.
If I remember correctly NCsoft had L2 based out of somewhere in California and then they moved to Austin. I remember there being some server downtime for bartz as they had to physically move the server. Correct me if i am wrong. It is no big deal to us except that bartz may have to be brought down again to move bartz again because as far as i know bartz server is located on location in Austin Offices.

I am thinking of this old LL Cool J song. Goin back to cali...
oh and yes the lineage 1 grind was very very very very very long and painful and makes l2 look like you level with the blink of an eye

I think you are correct. I seem to remember the movign to Austin info and that one of the CM's (Ash?) wasn't going as he lived in CA.

hardly. They are coming to the Queen City of the West for sure. Everyone knows that us midwestern peeps make the best GMs... Woot, come to Cincinnati, we have cheap P&G products to offer and lots of getta and other leftovers from the pigs here abouts...
We want to reassure everyone that the recent layoffs at NCsoft Austin do not effect Lineage II or our team. Our team is not relocating or losing anyone. As the statement on the various game-industry news sites said, the layoffs we experienced here were only related to Dungeon Runners and some games that were in very early development (and not announced) here at the Austin office. We're all very sad to see our friends and co-workers go.

It's still business as usual for the rest of us.
Sad, you lost Dungeon Runner people just after the box launched.

The good news for the players, at least, is that the game is still being supported. Some of the DR team is still here.
Thats what happens when you dont tell players how things in game works haha
Kidding :)

As long as Lineage2 is not in jepodary of going the way of Hellgate London or Fury I think I'll live.

To bad you couldn't bring some of these people on for the N/A Aion Staff.

I never played Dungeon Runners for longer then five minutes but even I thought the bling gnome was cool. :)
With their best products absent from retail shelves & game promotions taking place... umm... never... a more inept group of seamonkeys posing as marketing executives you won't find. If NCSoft wants to trim overhead in NA and increase sales/margins they should FIRE their NA marketing team and just include 15 day free trial cards in cereal boxes.

lol, I especially liked the part about Sea Monkeys (http://www.mookychick.co.uk/images/cruelty_to_animals/sea_monkeys2.jpg)

Though truth be told, where I am I can easily find Lineage 2, City of Heroes/Villains, Guild Wars and I might even have seen a Dungeon Runners Box.

not here, all I see is WoW
They should take the 21 people they laid off, and transfer them to the "Make Events for Lineage 2" Department.

Then, Give Alyra a whip.
