I have been having nothing but trouble trying to get my characters their first class transfers.
The Path To A Dark Wizard is impossible to do as there is no locations anywhere that show where Charkaran is to get the key. I have spent 5 hours trying to find this guy, so therefore I am losing time. (Guy on the web says the waterfall is north of the dark elf swamp. There is only one waterfall there and it is not north). I have typed Path To A Dark Wizard in the search engine here and get over 200 entries 1/2 of which pertain to the actual quest.
And my orc mystic can not complete the parasite quest. She did it once and turned it in. Now she has 100 parasites from grinding and the spirit will not show up. And she needs it to get the bonuses for the final quest.
I am taking longer to level though there does seem to be more experience from the creeps.

I did this quest last night. It took me a little longer than the guide I read guesstimated(it said 50-59 mob, I think it took me 65), but the spirit did spawn eventually. Also, just because certain quests have had their exp rewards boosted that does not dictate the only way to level. You can still grind some mobs using up a bit of your vitality and then do the class change quest for a huge chunk of exp.
I remember the Dark Mystic quest being a pain in the [censored](for that level) because of the weird wording of the quest objectives but I finished it eventually. Try EllieBelly's site or Stratics for a walkthrough.
It may not be faster the first time around to do certain quests. Leveling is definitely faster though. For the Dark Wizard quest, Charkeren is near the entrance of the waterfall South East of the Swamplands. Make a macro /target Charkeren, put it on your hotbar, and head toward the waterfall while clicking your macro. Once you're able to target Char, he will appear as a purple dot on your minimap. I'm not sure about the orc mystic quest, I've never played an orc mystic. I'm sure someone else can help you out though. Or if it's a game glitch, just open a ticket w/ a GM.
You just have to exercise a little patience and persevere. Even with all of the radical changes that Gracia brings, never lose sight of the fact that L2 was originally intended for the "hard core" grind. There are some quests, like Influx of Machines, where you need 500 quest items -- which means you'll have to dispatch more than just 500 mobs to get the reward. Hang in there.

I finally found him. He is next to another npc. And they are to the left of the road right before the black willow treants.
They are easy to miss because if the treants are out too far ideally you do not want to go near them so you go the other way.
Sovrath, thanks. The spelling is what helped me find him. The one web site I was at had him as Charkeran when it is actually "Charkeren" as you wrote above. So I rewrote the macro and found him.

Incidentally, I had trouble finding him in 2004 because of the same problem.. the Treants. They were blocking him.
