Spudnik's Theory on Vitality.

so heres the thing

ive levelled a lot of different toons from full vitality down through all 4 bars to nil. the only conclusion i can come to is that its NOT based on earned EXP.

what it IS based on is time spent in combat. idle time discounted.

FULL level 4 takes 30 mins of in-combat time to remove (whether or not it gets you 1% or 100%).
FULL level 3 takes 1 hr.
FULL level 2 takes 2 hrs of straight combat.
heaven help you if you should try to remove level 1 vitality.

reports from several 76+ players indicate similar results +/- 10 minutes.

how does this work for people leeching in party, standing (or sitting in the case of PP) idle? the same way. if youre idle and receive exp, your vitality reduces at the same rate as the player that MADE THE KILL (and this is tested true)

level 4 vitality player exping with a low level clannie buffer etc that has level 2 vitality, the low level player/buffer etc looses vitality at the same rate as the high level, higher vitality player.

regening vitality:

so far it seems high level players are reporting the inability of vitality to regen fast enough. 8hrs for any lost bar, when logged out in town. ofc this will be more if you exp'd through a half of a bar. but i think high level players have a hard time NOT logging in. those of us with altaholism or altitis often find it regenned to 4 spot on 24hrs of safe zone logout.
Spuddy, it has been explained by Alyra (and she's official sources) that it's only EXP. Not time. I'm sorry, you know I luv ya and all, but your theory isn't correct. When I was in party with the guys at Cruma on my Phantom Summoner last night, it took me around an hour to lose vitality 4.

It's for exp. It's been confirmed by Alyra. How much exp and how much that exp is changed with the levels, that's still not sure. Now the main thing that we need to know is about the recharge time. Cause THAT I couldn't figure out.

really now? cause all the alts ive played lost vitality 4 after 1 buffround and a half.
It's XP Spud I tested it for over 4 weeks with 14 Alts. ;)

Go and farm dark Blues for like hours and tell me how long it takes for your bar to drop.

I had help a friend yesterday do this quest and he could care less about the XP he just needed a protector. so he grouped me. the mobs were 45 to 55 I'm not sure they Dark Blue 2 me and I'm 77+. they dark blue 2 me.

after 5 long pain full hours of doing this quest and getting about 63 to 112 xp per mob and we killed a ton of them. I felt like cartman on south park lvling off Boars in WOW......I still had 4 bars when we were done.!
Yep.

Took me around 45 to 50 minutes, if I counted it correctly. I remember on the PTS going on NoS and losing the Vitality 4 after like 10 minutes.

I'll try to test it again today on another alt and let you know. It's exp-based, we're just not sure on HOW much exp you need to gain to lose vitality 4.

The common thing that I noticed is that yes, vitality 2 and 1 take AGES to go down (unless you're doing Kamaloka or stuff).
@OP post:
That doesn't seem to correspond with my observations (unless there is an easy explaination I missed :))
When gracia first came up we had a party with three people, the highest level person lost a vitality level first, and the lowest level person lost their vitality level last, and it was quite some difference - maybe 20-30mins. The lowest level person was 10 levels lower than the highest. Another clannie also mentioned the same happened with him with his lower level prophet in party.

Also level 2 is the longest level, I say this because I recorded my exp each time my vitality decreased (and I was killing at roughly the same rate the whole time).

exp | vitality level
28.35% at level 4
28.78% at level 3
29.16% at level 2
31.96% at level 1
32.14% at level 0
sutton, level 76-78 players lost 3 levels of vitality to get 2% at most. that cannot be correct for all levels.

this is EXACTLY the reason i'd say its based on time. at 65 where i am currently on my own toon, i consistently get 6% per lvl 4 vitality, 12% per vitality 3. my 56 (guess i should say 57 now) SE solo nuking gets 30% per vitality 4, 60% per vitality3.

when i was grouping that SE with a 62 Destro in WoA, i lost vitality 3 in 20%.
vitality loss is proportional to exp gained time is not an issue... you can put a 60 level in party with an 80 lvl and the 80 lvl will go to 0 vitality while the 60 is still 4 (tried it yes :p)

Lowest exp margins are vit 4 and vit 1, vit 3 is highest and vit 2 somewhere in between. But they are all tied to your level ... meaning vitality 4 needs say 1m xp to be depleted on a 60 lvl while it needs 6m xp to be depleted on an 80lv no matter how long it takes you to get that xp.
It's base on XP but your Level is part of the formula also.
I created a new Kamael char, and it lost level 4 in like 20 mobs or less, that was like less then 5 minutes.
Try it you too.

I think is based xp amount linked to the character level.
But thats solo..

I level my main 77 with my pp lvl64, and my sub lvl64 with the same pp.
She gets bunch more XP when im on my sub, and looses the vitality lvl as same as I do.
But when im on my sub she gets way less xp, but looses the vitality lvl as fast as I do.
its most certainly not based in time, its based on XP earned. For level 78 it will last you 2% from 4 to 0 regardless of how fast or how slow you get that ammount.
Edisson is correct, its XP gained . I lasted 1 buff round at lvl 4 vitallity, but i was geting 75k XP per mobs.... then i droped to about 50k XP for lvl 3 and so on.

Its XP GAINED that determines when you drop a lvl.

Cheers!!!
Why doesn't NC just post the corresponding xp needed to deplete the vitality levels per character level.

Why all the mystery
thats what I always ask my friend.. always ask...
Since we all the know you lost vit based on xp (also based on your current level)

we need the recharge rates... info????
I also disagree with Spud I'm afraid mate. Took me approx 50m to burn off level 4 from being full (hadn't played the toon in weeks so must have been full).
It is by total XP earned. You notice that it seems slightly different for higher level people because there is a curve built into the formula. It is not linear. The curve is slight though.
To all the people that want hard facts about this;
1- you will not get it. we have never received stats from NC, never will
2- If you did know the formula, would it change the game for you? If so, I really want to know how?
3- Its a game for christs sake, just play it.

hmmmm your ideas are intriguing and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

From my tests on the PTS, Kamaloka Bosses are the same as the norma Raid Bosses, they dont consume Vitality.
No kamaloka consumes vitality ... and they are not raid bosses

Why doesn't NC just post the corresponding xp needed to deplete the vitality levels per character level.

Why all the mystery

And ruin all our fun??? Cmon without conspiracy theories controversies and arguments, what would be left of this game? Grinding?? I dont think so my friend :P

Sorry my friend but I'm about to prove you completely, totally and irrefutably wrong (http://www.purp.co.uk/l2/CT2/Shot00029.jpg).

Unless of course they have changed since the PTS, in which case I stand down.
My bad if i got it wrong, i only tried Kamaloka on the PTS and i got quite alot of experience, and i dont recall anybody in my party losing Vitality over it.
Btw purp, does your screenshot prove completely, totally and irrefutably that you do lose Vitality from Kamaloka Bosses or not? Dont hate my if you think this is a stupid question but i cant really tell much other than the fact that you got a lot of exp :P XD
The screenshot shows the message Your Vitality has decreased... :P
Yes.

Look for the yellow writing.
Oh hahahhahahaha ok i must be going blind or i've stared at the monitor for too long. I read EVERYTHING in those windows EXCEPT the yellow writing hahahahaha.
Ok so Kamaloka is not like Raid Bosses. There you go. I'll go do seppuku now >.<
Kamaloka is just somewhere I can get a cheap level from on my humans in the morning while I'm getting ready....

Log onto mine and my gf's acc [to cover my back on the EULA, I pay for both..] and literally target and hit attack. Come back in 20m and boom.. 4k of DSS later and I'm a level higher.

Sorry spud but this is too easy to disprove. If it were based on time spent in combat mode, any leechers in the party who are not in combat mode could not lose vitality. Since they do, you are proved wrong. QED

And even without this obvious bit of evidence, a bit of logical thought would enough to show the error. Making the game have to record total time spent in combat would be using resources and require a lot more code to be added which serves no other purpose than signifying vitality loss. And since one's vitality loss is tied to one's time in combat mode, not being in combat mode could not make one lose vitality. But the system would also need an ever increasing number of variables to determine whether the combat mode is being increased in pve or pvp, and it would need to know how to parse combat modes which concurrently involve simultaneous pvp and pve combat modes. One could start combat by hitting someone and them switch to hitting a mob and then finally switch back to hitting a player. And ones combat mode does not end when the opponent is dead. In order for the system to only reduce vitality based on pve combat modes, it would need to start up and track multiple combat modes which are entered at different times, and this could come from the splash effect of an aoe which was not actualy targeting a mob or player but deals damage or an effect anyways. The number of additional variables, potential bugs, exploitable behavavior and needless programming this require would not to mention the hefty increase in resource use would not make sense simply for adding one small feature that could be added in any other manner and accomplish similar results for fewer resources and time. There is also the problem that your system does not explain why there is more vitality available at high levels nor why it takes longer to regenerate. And there is the doulbe duty of needing to duplicate the timers for members of the party who are not in combat mode or are in pvp combat mode but not pve combat mode but still earning experience.

Making vitality equal a set percentage of experience towards next level would be a much easier bit of coding to do in every manner. This would automatically increase the amount of vitality one has as the character gains in level because the amount of experience needed as one rises in level also rises exponentially. The amount of time needed to regain vitality would also rise as the amount of exp associated with each level increases with increasing levels. This explains exactly what we see vitality doing. It takes longer to lose and gain vitality as one rises in level just as ones needed experience increases as one increases in level. Yet now we have a system that fails to explain why quest experience does not reduce vitality. Perhaps we cannot win, but it would be easier to explain away the quest experience problem than the leech problem.

Since time spent in combat mode is closely correlated to amount of experience earned (assuming not leeching), it is very easy to confuse the two if you aren't doing much thinking and jump to conclusions.
you didnt read the whole post, and ive already been disproven. thanks for your input though.

From what I have seen, and just about everyone else... Your vitality decreases with XP gained, not time XPing or the amount of mobs you hit.
lots of people saying its connected to the xp gained, but the first day I logged on my vitality was at 400%, did a fortress siege and my vitality went down to 350% or 300, can't remember but it did went down, and during the siege I only fought darkblue and lightblue mobs, couldn't have been more then 5000 xp...
well i was lvl 20 and i had vitality lvl 4 then when i got like to 22 or 23 it got decreased to vitality lvl 3
here is my theory. XP translates directly to VP loss but the translation itself depends on person's level. so we need to find out the multiplier that you apply to XP gained to get the VP amount you lose - for each level there is.

this however is impossible until we determine exactly how fast does VP regenerate, and exactly how much % of full VP we need for each level of vitality system.

I had full lvl 4 and it went down to lvl 3 after 15minutes of hunt.
full lvl 3 took me 40-50min to take down to 2
full lvl 2 stayed for almost 3 hours
and full lvl 1 stayed for 10minutes (I got suprised when I saw the message after 10 min saying that vitality has been decreased).
I exped solo in Hero Rift on the day the servers came back up. With level 4 vitality I was getting 150k+ exp per mob, and it went down to lv 3 after about 5 minutes...

Lv 3 gave me 120k exp per mob, lost that after 10-15 mins.
Lv 2 gave me 100-110k exp per mob, lost that after 20-30mins.
Lv 1 gave me 75k exp per mob, lost that after 40 mins or so.

Logged out for 18 hours. Vitality back up to Lv 1.

Exped in rift again, went back down to Lv 0 after about 5-10 mins.

So from what I gather, if you are getting lots of exp in a short time, don't expect to keep your vitality for long... or at all :x

It's base on XP but your Level is part of the formula also.

I guess my post got miss if this is still going on. let me repeat.

It's base on XP but your Level is part of the formula also.
I also believe that it is based on exp gained in relation to your level.

In the Hero Rift (4 person group) a vitality level would take 25 or 30 min. In Pagan's (solo) a vitality level only takes about 5-6 min, because there a Cardinal can kill a 3x HP lvl 78 mob in less than a second, so the exp is about as fast as it gets.

(Edit for punctuation)

Dropped to level 2 on my 34 Knight. Logged and checked on the hour for 6 hours until it was back to 3. I've just gained 30% and it's dropped back to 2.
Well, just to make things more confusing...

I am level 77 on main, have been exping and logging out on the level 77 toon.

I had lv 2 vitality for like 2 days stright. Didn't go up when I logged for over 12 hours, didn't go down when I grinded for 3-4 hours, maybe a bit more, both days. I was in good exp areas too getting 35-40k a mob on lv 2 vit.

Yesterday, when my vitality dropped from lv 2 to lv 1, it took LESS THAN A BUFFROUND for level 1 to drop to zero. 0_o

Also, I was NOT in an amazing exp party. I was in pagans getting 16-18k w/ lv 2 vit. Once I got lv 1, the exp dropped to 11-12k per mob and it disppeared in like 15min. No lie. I was looking at time on buffs from when it dropped from lv 2 to lv 1.

AND, this did not just happen to me. People in my party had just recently lost lv. 2, and 15min later or so, they lost lv.1 and dropped to zero as well.

That just makes all kinds of no sense @_@ I have given up trying to even figure it out. I am just happy to constantly keep it at lv 2.

.01-.03 per mob (depending on exp spot) is pretty awesome at lv 77 :)
well on the pts i started hitting mobs from level 1, and when they turned green i lost a level of vitality within 5 minutes,

i made another char and started hitting yellow mobs (and always yellow mobs), my vitallity level 4 lasted me well over an hour....

my observations suggest its the level of the mob you kill that takes a certain amount of ure vitality away, not the amount of exp you get from it as i was able to go to level 15 in on instance JUST on mobs, and then lose a level of vit, and in the other instance i got to level 5 and lost a level of vit
I was hitting an NPC for an hour. no vitality loss, if that doesn't disprove it. Nothing will.

On one toon I level on Yellows, on another I level on Greens. Both give me around an hour of level 4 when I have it.
