Just wondering if there is any point in lvling some of the skills. Take entangle for example, it reaches effect 3 at its second lvl, after that does lvling it further help? The same with the hate skill.
Thanks!
I find entangle useful in pvp, so i say lvl it. A tank without hate is not much of a tank, so u better lvl that one. Not sure what lvl u r but dont lvl charm, mortal blow, or power shot. gl/hf/hh and find a good group
Entangle success rate depends on its level. But it is mostly a PvP skill, you will hardly ever use it in PvE.
Hate... hmm. Of course, it's good to have if you aren't soloing all the time (or even when you are soloing with a pet). But your Vanguard level of hate skills may not correspond to the "normal" skills levelled (not sure, needs checking). In this case, if you hunt only in Vanguard, you may skip upgrading your "normal" hate skills.
Entangle as mentioned is a useful snare and if you want it to keep working, you should level it, though I have yet to see an Effect 4. With HP/MP low, pots gone, and my UD already used, it once saved me by allowing me to kite a monster around while I regained HP/MP.
Hate (and Aura of) is very important and you should keep that levelled. Your hate has the fastest cast and is what keeps the monsters on you. You are a tank first and foremost. Also useful for pulling monsters off roofs :)
Charm actually has uses too. If you are off-tanking and take too much aggro, you can use it to put some back on the main tank. It has saved my skin a few times as well.
Vanguard is very useful for solo or partying in a DD role, but not in a tanking role.
Thanks for the info! I think i'll leave entangle for a bit, I don't use it much as is, but i'll level Aura of Hate. As for Charm, I still don't think i'll level it not yet anyway. I just got Vanguard the other day haven't used it yet though. Do we lose a lot of our def when we use it?
About 150pdef (might be relative by level). And of course you can't use a shield wielding a 2-handed sword. But it is covered by your life cubic, your patk goes up (via 2H masteries I'm guessing), and you get 2 attack skills to use in addition to Tribunal. You will kill faster than you ever have before.
Should be interesting...using the elf fighter skill, Power Strike, just doesn't cut it when you are on your own. I can't wait till I can use Tribunal, Vanguard seems really cool though it isn't really traditional, though I won't complain that we got it ;)
Tribunal is a awesome PvP skill, since its more a debuff then a power skill when tanking you cant spam it cause of the cost, and when in vanguard you simple dont need it, you will get 2 powerfull low cost overhit skill no need for judgment. Charm imo is a waste of sp, entangle is good to pvp. all other TKs skills u must get.
Just wish you could have your pet out while in Vanguard state. But I guess its made so we don't try to power level ourselves, we are tanks ;)
Oh does Vanguard have a time limit?? Or must we use the skill again to revert? I haven't used mine yet as I am trying to lvl my wolf :p And I don't remember reading it in the notes...

Have you tried summoning then changing into vanguard?
Vanguard lasts until you turn it off or log. You can summon your pet and then use Vanguard, but not the other way around. You can even UD and then use Vanguard :)
you can't transform into vanguard while you have your pet out...i confirmed it last night when i was going for the mage tent in a fort.
i do see people running around giran every now and again with a pet out while they're a death blader or whatever...so there's a glitch but i haven't found out how to do so yet.
i'd love to transform into a pig and have my great wolf chasing me around town.
I don't understand the wacky transformation rules. A player in the pig-transformation can't invite/accept a duel either. (Yes, I tried.. we were bored.)
But Mystery Potions work while you're transformed. (Have a nice screenshot of a pig, 2 onyx beasts, a death blader, and an untransformed dwarf with oversized heads.)
Anyway - back to topic - has anyone tried out Vanguard in a 2H vs. Duels way? I can't afford to have multiple weapons atm... so does anyone have an opinion which has the better skills?
Haven't used it yet, like I said I want to lvl my wolf right now.
But ya, you can not use pet and Vanguard at the same time, at least I cannot anyway...
The vanguard skills are lvl 6 skills I think, I transformed but never went out of town...
to use a pet or dark panther while in vanguard, you must transform first.
to duel while in vanguard, u must accept the duel first, then transform while the countdown is going. or during the duel, but during the countdown is recommended
Well, answring the fist post here ^^ (I do too want to add my cents here) =P
Entagle: very useful pvp skill. It has as much land rate as most of the debuffs. When used on an archer/mage/dagger, it might be deadly for them. Enchant it for chance and you'll be happy.
Hate (aura of): it not only is used on mobs, but also used on players. It drag their target on you and even make then actually run toward you for a few, even if not enough for you two to reach each other. It's good when you're in a party and yuo have to keep the dagger from reach the robes, or if the player are is out of the entangle/arrest range. Even if you're solo, you can use it to drag mobs to close to you, instead of run to them. You've got Focus Mind, your mp will regen fast.
Charm: I dunno if it's the rule, but so far, it worked only on mobs of the oposite gender as mine. Maybe that's just me,or maybe that's how it works.
SP on charm is a waste. Entangle you will never use in pve. In pvp I think TK has more useful skills to spend his mana on: shield fort, tribunal, arrest, hate (to protect party members).
Instead of use tribunal, I preffer stick with Shield Bash. Way more useful. And entangle are a big help when you need to keep the target from move away from you, which will save you time and mp from have to run after. Well, different play-styles, right?
