you have a Box SE and PP I would go for OL no point in making another buffer. ;)
I just dusted off Biotox (my namesake) in Gracia and leveled up to 40, promptly choosing an Overlord since I'm a glutton for punishment.
I've got OOP buff support (62+ PP and 72+ SE) and can equip well. I've got PL+6, FPA, and Karmian sets for armor, a DS+8/focus, and a Homunkulus+5/acumen that I plan to switch to Club of Nature. I will likely get an OPA for poling. Haven't yet set up tattoos but was thinking of using +5WIT and maybe +4CON/-4STR.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to level and really, really want to try to use seals. I was going pull mobs with FPA and CoN then use seal of binding. Step back, switch to Karmian and use seal of blaze, seal of poison a few times. Then pole, nuke, or knife the remaining mobs.
So the big question is if it is possible to use AoE/seals or if I will have to nuke or use melee with Soul Cry?

The bad thing about seals is even if the mobs are green to blue the seal only land on at best 35% of 8 mob pull. That includes blinding. AoE's just dont land enough to follow your plan of switching gear. Besides the up and down on your mp will hurt xp time. Stick with seal of winter, soul cry and/or sleep when needed. Leave AoE for those AoE groups that sometime come around. Then you can wear heavy w/ little to no problem w/ mp.
Winter and chaos seem to have a pretty good land rate. I land them on dark red mobs in aoe groups with clannies and friends with very little resists on mobs with normal mdef. Binding is iffy at best, as well as most of the other seals as well.
Seals are robe/high m.atk wepon only magic.
They cost too bloody much to, then cast too bloody long to use them in heavy/light.
40 upwards is meele - heavy (FP) + a sword w.focus (dagger is secondary choice, orc is garbage in accuracy department, you won't have it easy to hit something; poles are even bigger joke on orc mystic).
Your tactic is flawed. FP set + melee weapon + ssc + robe set + mage weapon+BspsC = too bloody much to carry around.
Even with +5 Con. And with +5 Con you won't be doing any good damage in melee.
Besides, FP = very little mana, VERY, very slow cast speed and with mobs on you - a great chance of cast iterruption. But let's say you'll succed in Binding - switch to robe set WON'T give you enough mana to drain/flame/poison mobs as the addidional mana pool from robes is NOT "given", it's regenerated and you can't just sit down to get it.
Thirdly, both Flame and Poison are crap. Yes. I said it. Crap.
It's better to just kill the mobs in melee with soul cry on.
So you'd better forget about our solo-pulling and concentrate on ONE. And the one and only here is melee. Sorry, OL doesn't have a single target DOT like WC does, drain will make your mana drain every few mobs, so sorry, no nuking for you.
Here is how i solo at lvl 79 (yes it happens sometimes.. rarely but happens.^^) :
- Light set (more mp than heavy, better casting speed)
- Focus dagger
- mob by mob playing melee. i use drain only to heal myself.
- area where drop herbs. Vr hearbs, hp hearbs, focus, and mp... <3
I use seal only when it's absolutly neccessary. So i think a wc can hunt solo same was as i do, and even more good since he got better melee buffs ^^.
Solo, isn't at all, after c grade, a way to see xp forever. Just must solo sometimes. OL/WC are buffers.
Actually... OL is more than that, and as a domi, exept ww zerk and Vop i don't buff much in group. Heal, seals, sleep mobs...
But still, ol/wc are supports ! not supposed to get all their xp by themselves.
ps: dc light set, +7 BO focus, Iop easy mobs, selfbuffs no VoP.
74 Solo OL
Hot Springs
DC robe set
+7 haste Duels
Clan Hall buffs then herbs the rest of the 20 minutes
No issues.
Drain when I have to, other wise I am just doing the Chef Quests over and over until I hit 76 or so.
Tell you a big reason you want to go WC, Overlords are best suited for active clans. If you seem to drift about then go WC youll fit in anywere and your buffs are appreciated by all. As an OL people get confused and will overlap on your buffs almost everytime, no one understands how to read the buffs cause most people that play havent seemed to have passed the 4th grade reading proficiency level. So yes, Im happy for any and all that have gone the WC route, I know that my OL is a fantastic crowd control character and is Insane in fort/Castle sieges. Of course you need to put out alittle effort to realize the fruits of playing OL to the upper levels, which OL will NEVER be a FOTM type character like say, SH or Glad's. Wow the weaksauce neverends, heh. So I Highly suggest you go WC cause you know, there just cant be enough of you. Have fun.
If you want to talk serious about gearing up and playing an OL pm either me or Piewacket, Piewacket is by and far one of the only OG OL's left in the game that I know. But Ive been playing an OL for sometime myself and have tried many variations of armor and weapons to great success and failure. So I may be able to give you a bit of direction depending on your playstyle.
I love my OL. I do tell people who are considering the choice that WC will let you play more of the middle game and have an easier go of it.
Yes, you really need a good clan or a solid group of friends to help you level and ol. With the new changes coming in the next update I believe, the OL should be able to do party buffs and with some fill in buffs coming, won't be complete but will be nice.
Crowd control is awsome. Mass root for the win. But I find sleep is perhaps my best crowd control for PvE play.
If you do have any direct questions, post in this area, and I am sure there are a few of us that will be glad to help.
I have both an Overlord and a Warcrier. I would agree with the above posters that if you are in a small clan, a clan that has not too many people your same level, or an inactive clan, go Warcrier.
I love my OL. He is one bad-mo-fo. With that said, he has been extremely hard to level and thank goodness I am now a member of a large clan and can get groups. Before that, I solo'ed a LOT.
My Warcrier is always in demand. Even though she is clanless, any time I log in I almost instantly get p.m.s from people on my friendslist asking me to join their party. Finding a hunt is never an issue with her.
Overlord is class only for the choosen ones.
(means for those who wanna suffer with a awesome class that is **** hard to lvl)
Altough, my character, a overlord, is a pain in the ***, i enjoy it more and more as it levels up.
And the leveling is not such a pain in the *** as many people think, its probably a bit easier then one thinks.
Get some heavy armor, good fists, dagger, swords, whatever, and u can lvl it... Just takes a bit longer.
for your purposes a warcryer could eliminate your other boxes, and be a useful toon. very dynamic class and a great duo partner. if you are a very serious player, the overlord is a great and very fun class, but not for the light of heart; indeed it's the "hardest" class in game to level for your average player. they don't really become useful until 66, and they don't become "fun" until about 77 and up. once you're 79+, the rewards are almost endless however, very strong olympiad hitter and by far the most important person at a seige.
for all those talking about ways to level and such, your best bet with an ol is to group with mages. no, you wont get empower until 77, but you do get zerk acu sheild buffs and such, and you make a good pack mob tank espec w/ soul guard. consdering newbie buffs go til 60's now, this is especially effective since your nuker will have hour long empower.
for soloing purposes, your best bet is finding a good light or heavy set that allows you to carry enough shots and going at it melee style. i suggest heavy unless we are talking about draconic. personally i like to add a little (maybe +2 or so)dex for accuracy (unless you have boss jewls), with +4 str and +4 wit, and go at it with a dagger. if con and accuracy are still a problem, switch to a 2 handed focus sword.
if anyone has some specific questions please hit me up on the boards, i play and love both classes and wouldn't mind sharing some insight :) happy hunting.
both WC an OL are very versatile and flexible class...but on your situation a WC would be the best choice, best buffer for your paladin, no necessity to belong to the same clan, and you may even lvl on duo without other subs...
hope you choice wisely...:D
What are overlords/warcriers like in pvp? Anyone here have experience in siges/oly as an OL? Any good?
I think i'll be making an orc mystic later this week.
Oh, I have a few friends i'll be grouping with most of the time, and a high level wolf. And I think at high level I tink i'll be able to find a decent clan aswell.
CP Heal, Buff, HP Heal, Seals if you are adequate level (with the raising of the level cap, do not bother with anything other than Suspension or Winter unless you are 76+ with at least +1 on those other seals).
That's about it. It's pretty straightforward, but how you actually play it will make a difference.
Not enough room for a tutorial, and I haven't played mine up to a level where I can actually feel comfortable writing one.

1vs1 pvp if no cp pots, wc/ol unbeatable till have mp. OL is a little better than WC for pvp, because Soul guard, seal of winter (and another whitch increases skill reuse time).
But now:
everybody uses CP potions = no hp restore from drains.
sleep cast time is increased a lot = very hard to pvp with multiple enemies
