An entire a-grade common item set does give set bonus if unsealed. Using a common item mixed with normal items does not give the set bonus but it will in the next update. This was a GM response when asked about the items. The only difference from the normal ones would be no +6 set bonus

I cant believe its true. I mean, why shouldt any1 risk 60% craft or waste alot adena for normal a grade items when u can get what u want for almost nothing? U cant enchant common items, ok but hey, this few points in pdef u dont get u can accept.
There is absolutely no reason for it to give the set bonus. Buy a full common c-grade set. No need to unseal and it doesnt give bonus either. So why would agrade?
It would be nice if common gave the set bonus, or possibly a gimped set bonus. I just dont see a normal player being able to get enough money later on to afford 50-200m for a set of armor. Sure if they farm for days and days or get uber rare drops or have people giving them charity money, or using the sites that must not be named. So having a partial set bonus from common would be tolerable. Hell it is not like you can get the +6 bonuses, so there are still reasons for your rich people to buy the normal grade stuff.
Granted this is all coming from the view of a poor person who is not high lvl :P

common items are just nice for those who are lazy to make money from the market or to whine long enough to make some people help with the equipment.

This. You'll get there eventually, there's more ways of making money than just killing monsters. I wouldn't worry about A-grade too much though, if you're only 2x.
For Pete's sake, xephonics is pretty new to the game (apparently), and gets jumped on. FYI, I think the common items have the same intent as the Vitality system: help new / casual players catch up on levels. I would not be surprised if they come to point when A grade gear can be bought in NPC shops. I'm not saying I expect it, but the development wouldn't surprise me. However, to players like xephonic, I also predict you will always need to learn how to make money in this game. Because I rather expect that the highest levels of gear will continue to take lots of work to get. The best I can advise is, read the forums on Player Guides, as there are some threads in there on how to make money. Also, I personally will prefer to buy "real" gear and get the set bonuses at A grade. Below A grade, I might not be so picky, depending on the situation. Just my input, FWIW.

I've been around sence OB, Left for about a year and when I came back the price of items were simply stupid, Im currently working on my second sub and just finally was able to afford an S Grade wep for my main.
I'm also very interested in the whole common item thing, Hang in there Xep, And dont let any lames make you think youre doing anything wrong for wanting to play legit.

So everyone that has the high lvl gear acquired it through illegitimate means? I hope thats not what ur saying. Before my BH/WS were even in B grade, I had the gear I needed for them, my SE and HE into OE Agrade...
make a spoiler, use search to find where to spoil, and seed. play the market. It may take a while....but you can LvL ur main w/o having to take a breather. With common items till 6x, more of your adena pool can go right to ur a/s gear.

No i was not saying that at all. If you work REALLY hard and know the market quite well, i'm pretty sure you can make good money. But for new people just coming into the game I don't really see it being possible to afford good gear. And being called lazy or a whiner just because of that is funny imho. No biggy, if it makes his ****** bigger, thats fine, the ****** does not help you in real life :P I'm married and have a full time job, so I don't need to spends 12+ hrs a day in a game trying to make myself feel better. If that makes me lazy, so be it :)
I'm not looking for "easy" ways, I'm going the dorf route (I'm making a scavenger and the wifey is making a crafter)
I know there is no "easy" way to make money in L2, I've accepted that a long time ago :P That is why common items are a good thing to me. If they dont have set bonuses that is fine, but I will definately not complain if they do.
You can wear common gear all the way up to level 75. It's so easy nowadays. People were complaining before newbies would get rocked by the prices of A grade when their B grade common items became less useful. But it turns out you get Common weapon/armor A grade drops. You can either crystalize them or wear them.
My Wind Rider wears Majestic Light, I gain stun resist and Weight limit from the set bonus, not much else. So all a Majestic Common user is losing compared to me is Stun resist and weight limit increase. Hardly worth the millions. I might just sell my Maj Light, buy Common top A armor, and use the millions I made by selling my Maj light to invest into buying/selling. Might also get a Common Soul Sep since on Phoenix I can make SSA for 120~ and SSS for 250a. I'm spending way too much on shots with my Angel Slayer.
