I'm new to lineage 2 and had a pretty nubalicious question lol. I'm a level 20 Dark Elf Palus Knight, and i was wondering, do i use a 2h or two 1h's? I'm using a shadow exchange thingy and didnt want to waste any without knowing. thanks! =)
As a "knight" class you want to get use for your shield defence skill. So 1h blunt/sword is the original idea.
Alltho if you really want to take one of the two you wanted:
2h sword/blunt is probably the best of the two.
It's cheaper to use atleast.
EDIT: forgot to explain why cheaper.
When you miss with a 2h sword you don't waste shots.
When you miss with a dual sword you waste shots even if only one of them hits.
That's the only direct difference I could think off atleast in the pre 2nd class lvls.
1h w/ shield or a 2h sword. Reason being that your sword masteries only apply for 1h/2h swords but not for duals (the difference isn't that big at lower lvls but oh well, every bit helps).
Additionaly what venaja said about the soulshots is also true, 2h swords will use least SS in order to kill a mob.
When I lvled my palus though back in C3 I used dual swords simply because a friend of mine lent them to me and it worked just fine as well. Basically with all the new additions to make the game more newb friendly you'll be alright with every weapon and lvl decently fast.
Thanks alot for the help i appreciate it. I had a 2h sword and almost got my butt handed to me in a small brown box via UPS status, but besides that i forgot to learn a few new useful skills lol, so i grabbed a 1h and shield and i'm doing alright, thanks again! Time to go get lost and level up! =P
Heya got another question if anyone would be kind enough to answer my noobness! lol...I realized that bladedancers are buffers? And if i become one and then move onto Spectral dancer later on...are they buffers also? or can they deal some good dmg?..I'm basically trying to figure out what class I want besides a Human rogue.
Your 40 class change is your main defining moment. The 76 class changes aren't a choice per say since there is only one path.
A blade dancer is a damage dealing buffer. Every 2 minutes, they cast their dances and then get right back to swinging their dualies.
Damage dealers in Lineage 2 are legitimate damage dealers. There is no pity for "hybrids" or any side rolls. Which is to say that a nuker, a dagger or an archer will always out damage your BD. However, you have some of the sickest buffs in the game. Unlike other games, L2 has very strong buffs.
I'm not an altaholic so I can't comment on what class to complement with your human rogue. As the leveling gets harder, and you get higher, the drops get better and that just trickles down to your other characters. Which is to say that it is more fun to have alts when you have a high main to take care of their needs.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them.
When you are a Eleven oracle, a Shiellen oracle, an Orc raider, an orc monk, a dwarf scavenger, or a dwarf artisan, you don't have a choice in your level 40 class change nontheless 76class change
Awesome help! Such a great friendly community compared to *coughworld of crapcraftcough* =). But yah I wanted to decide what I was going to stick to at a low level because they become such different characters as you get higher...very unique shall I say. Going with human hawkeye then onto my bladedancer later on =P
The Blade Dancer is one of the most desired classes in any party. Once they get to level 58 there is no party type that will not benefit from having a BD in it. They make ANY party better!

I soloed in the beginners armor on my Elven Knight till lvl 30 or so on PTS. With 2-hander. Without a single death.
If you have VR on you (and you should have it as a newbie buff), your offense is your best defense. Just carry some healing pots for emergencies and don't stop hitting.
Why most people in this thread said "Sword and Board" to the original question is beyond me. Two hander is cheaper and faster.
I noticed some said to use sword and board because "He'll learn his class better" or "Because he's a 'knight class' " without even asking if he was going SK or BD. Even if he was going SK, how would going sword and board help him learn his class better? The play style is 100% identical. You just deal and take less damage as sword/board.
It truly doesn't matter what weapon you use pre 40. Around 40 is when you have to start making choices. You have two choices. BD (blade dancer) or SK (shellien knight). BD are great for parties. You get dances that increase your stats, along with your party members. Endgame BDs are decent in pvp, but are better than SK in pve. Youll be able to kill faster- and find a party easier. SK are tank classes with cubic. They can root and hit pretty hard with endgame gear. They get a paralize at 62 which is a win button. SKs are decent in pve. Youll be able to solo forever.. but it will be hard to get a party. You can raid RB though. Ive played SK and BD and SK got kinda lame after about 62 because i could never find a party. BD is the time of my life, hes also pretty good with a bow in pvp. As for equipment- buy COMMON ITEMS from giran (you can get the top D weapon for about 80k common). Common items cant be +ed, but that doesnt matter. You can get the regular armor from the armor shop in giran. Get a brig set if you cant join an academy. Get common jewls aswell from giran grocery store.
If you are a fighter, you don't need shield in D-grade.
If u go BD, u can dual that sword up with another to get c duals.
If u go SK u can still use the sword and shield for a few lvls before you need c grade sword and shield.
Who is failing?
Just bought top C 2-handed blunt, top C 2-handed sword and top C pole for under 1 mil total in Giran NPC shop for my Scav. All are common items, of course.
If u go BD, u can dual that sword up with another to get c duals.
If u go SK u can still use the sword and shield for a few lvls before you need c grade sword and shield.

I hate to break it to you, but sword/blunt mastery works on two handers as well. All your skills work with a two hander as well. The only thing you don't make use of is shield mastery.
Now, explain to me why he should use sword/board and waste money on more SS than he would use if he was going two hander?
As for your "You can dual your 1 hander if you go BD." You can exchage your 2 hander for a 1 hander at mammon then dual that.
The best duals you can get with D grades are dual ELS. And even a +4 duals ELS won't compare to common katanas.
Not to mention common katanas cost like 1 third of what a single EWC costs lulz.
Anyway! Even if you want real duals you are way better off buying 2 kats (or whatever equivalent sword) @ 2,6m each at the weapon shop and putting them together than to use some crappy low C duals made from D swords. (upgrading your crappy D sword with AA must be the biggest waste ever considering how dirt cheap real C weapons are in shop now)
But even that is stupid and a waste of precious adena.
In the end the best way to go for a new player is this:
D Grade:
Common half plate set
Common top D 1/2 handed sword (w/ shield)
C Grade:
Common FP set
Common SLS + FP Shield (if SK)
Common dual kats (for both classes)
All in all you'll be perfectly geared for 2 entire grades for about 1m adena, give or take some.
And now our newbie will have lots and lots and lots of money to happily waste on his B grade equipment which will last him very long if need be. Unlike the C grade junk that is pretty worthless after 52 (ok personally I used a SLS till like 65 and elven jewels till A grade and got my NM heavy at 74 or so but... no.)
As a BD you will still want to +4 the duals, so common items are crap. I think my argument is still valid.
Its still a tank 20-40. Why not try to be a tank. Or do you guys assume ppl just solo? Never raid or party?
Curse at me all you want Yatta, I could care less.
Believe it or not, a palus knight is a valid DD for pre-40 raids. A DD is also a more valid party partner than a tank pre-40 in any kind of non-raidboss group.
Also, where did I curse at you? I even specified that I was referring to the "Non-curse F word." AKA: Fail
Let us lowbies handle the lowbie questions. You answer the higher ones.
Palus knight is half a DD with sword and shield, and slightly less with duals. U attack slower with duals if u dont have masteries for them, which noone has pre-40.
Due to the higher patk on duals the dps is roughly the same though.
If the guy ever wants to do a raid tho, he will want a shield.
And while shield on a d-grade raid boss tank is nice, it's not really needed, especially when your group still has life cubics. And you will definitely get it as a drop from mobs or kamaloka, either common or standard one.

Uhm, the only thing dual mastery does is increase your p.atk with duals. Your DPS will be much higher with duals than sword and board even without dualwield mastery. Also, I said use a two hander, not duals, since sword/blunt mastery affects that.
If the guy ever wants to do a raid tho, he will want a shield.
Only if he wants to tank. Like I said, he is a VERY viable DD for pre-40 raidbosses.
Good grief, all of these posts just for a simple D grade question!?! Are you kidding me??? Come on guys, let's keep the responses on point so that the noobs can benefit from your experiences.
To the OP, at that level you can use almost any weapon you like. It all depends on whether you're trying to save money, level quickly, etc.
Many of us encourage a two hand sword or a one hand sword with a shield. Duals can be used, but you might find yourself burning through shots much faster than you would with a single sword.
At the end of the day, it may just come down to your own personal preference. Maybe you like the look of duals, even though conventional wisdom says you should use a sword. At D grade you have the option and flexibility of trying out all of those weapons to see what feels right to you.
This coming from a person who used a dagger at D grade on my first Palus Knight at one point.

This, really.
For level speed and cheapness, a 2 handed sword will dominate all (Well, a dagger will probably level faster if fully buffed). But there's really no point if you think it looks fugly and you're not having fun.
i myself use a dagger no matter the class i'm playin, crit rate is high, patk is decent but the speed is where it's at. fully buffed newb toons i can do cruma swamp at 22/23 the toads/wasp and stakatos. i've got a warrior usin a mith dagger in brig for kama's. so for me, i find dagger is the fastest way to lvl from 1 to 40. but it is all personal pref.
