I was thinking they should show that live, but then I thought it would just show the machine doing nothing really, since you can't see the action...
Do you think it's gonna be like:
"Ok guys, let's fire up... 3, 2, 1..."
After 5 seconds:
"Ok, experiment done, time to go home."
The speed of light... wow!

.9999999999 The speed of light. :p
You might get to hear a cool humming noise, but that's about it.
I don't believe you can apply that when talking about the Speed of Light. Nothing with mass can travel up to 1 (If 1 = Speed of light).
"It is generally considered that it is impossible for any information or matter to travel faster than c, because it would travel backwards in time relative to some observers[14]. However, there are many physical situations in which speeds greater than c are encountered."

you could apply that when talking about the speed of light, but the problem is that the number is not 0.9999999... it has a finite number of 9's, I don't know what decimal it ends at, but it's not going to be a very long string of 9s before it's broken
Erm I don't know how much you all know but they aren't actually COLLIDING the particles for some time. So all of this hype on the radio and tv today has made me laugh quite a lot.
Expect the same hype again in a few months when they DO start the collisions.
Well, the preachers have been saying it since C3... all I'm gonna say is "They warned you!". But did you listen? No, you beat on them and abused them with your bishops and elders!
They'll have it running at about 60% of it's intended power around the end of October when they'll begin 10TeV collisions followe dby an offline period (end of nov) where they'll recalibrate if needed etc then bring it back up and run collisions at approx 14Tev. I've spent the last 12-18 months following this quite a lot of detail. This is probably the biggest step mankind has made since Neil A. took the first p-$$ on the moon.
