I am very dissappointed in this game and wonder why PlayNC would market this after marketing a GREAT game such as City of Heroes/Villains.
Oh well, you've all heard the rant before, now here's my reasons:
1. Bugs Galore: If you complete a quest with the quest box open, it clears your WHOLE quest box. You have to restart the program to see your other quests. Well, you could see your other quests if you could type your username and pass in the login screen without having to restart your computer every time you exit the game.
2. Keyboard config: The F1-12 buttons are NOT an acceptable form of power buttons. The keyboard is not designed for the human hand to be able to comfortably rest on these buttons for any more than a few minutes time. The number buttons would have been a better choice. Don't even try to tell me to use the mouse more, I don't want to.
3. Bots: 95% of all female dwarves are bots. Prove me wrong. Also, even if you report one AND a GM responds to it, he won't do anything about it. Here's a thought, pop up a box in front of the player's view asking if they are a bot. If they say yes or no, then you know they aren't a bot. If they don't answer, IP ban them.
4. Quests: 200 items collected from monsters that only drop 20% of the time is UNACCEPTABLE! It took me 2 days of grinding to finish that quest, only to be presented with dozens just like it. I'm going to assume that lasts through all the levels.
5. Community: or lack thereof. 50% of all players dont speak english or just don't speak for some reason. (maybe from the mind numbing quests). I was fortunate enough to meet a nice German guy who was a great friend to me. (I wasn't playing on EU servers) There also wasn't any sort of recruitment into clans or any big clan activities that were evident.
6. Skills: They suck. There are not enough for each class and I ended up fighting without skills since there's no attack skill for Dual Blades.
7. Sephiroth: One Winged Angel Rejects. Nuf Said. Dont even get me started on how much Dark Elf males wearing Brigandine and carrying dual blades look like Dekans from Rohan. (I don't want to play "who-copied-who")
There were some good points to the game though. I loved how the Dark Elf girls looked (I know I'm a perv, sue me). The Graphics weren't that great but the game engine was AMAZING!!! I could run maximum graphics on the same machine that couldnt run Tabula Rasa on minimum. Although there was a lack of classes, not every fighter class played the same.
I regret having to pay an extra $20 to use Direct2Drive's installer because you guys can't give us a direct link to the program that we can put into our download managers OR keep a reliable download server up.
I have to say this game ranks a 3/10.
By contrast, CoH/V is a 9/10 and FFXI is a -1/10.

If you had only given the game more time than you actually did, perhaps then you would have found out a lot of other things that might have been enjoyable to you. Especially with the new update, really. If it hadn't been for Gracia, I wouldn't have come back myself.
L2 isn't a perfect game, far from that. I myself quit around 4 times and came back. But the reasons YOU listed aren't only an L2 problem. And they alone are far from the reason that I decided to quit so many times. You'll find out that many other games out there have the same exact concept. Unfortunately you didn't give the game enough time to find out the good things about it. There are some interesting things about L2 that I can only find here. And perhaps that was the reason that pushed me to come back so many times.
So good luck in whatever else you try. Just as a piece of advice, I suggest trying things further before ditching them.
PS: You praise CoH so much. I hated that game with a passion. There are people that love WoW, I couldn't stand past the Character Creation there. It's all a matter of perspective.

Because it has potential (and doesnt deliver to its fullest) you always come back hoping it just might reach it one update. Was the same in the first open pvp mmo i played (UO ftl)
To the OP: Some of the things you say are true, mostly about bots. For many of the others, you just would need to stick around longer. Take your complaint about skills, for example. Few classes get many skills before level 20, and the real skill accumulation starts at level 40 for many classes. (There are a few classes that only get a few good skills.) Same thing with running into other live players, that happens much more at higher levels, because this is a 4 year old game. I could go on and on, but I hope you get the point. FYI, even for those of us who stay, many have issues and gripes, but we find this is the best place to be out of all the available games. Anyways, good luck finding a game you like.
1. Bugs Galore: This is one bug you've stated. Yes I know there are more, but I've played for years and have never seen this bug. Have you reported it? If not, then this isn't a valid argument.
2. Keyboard config: As already stated you can actually change these in the options. It's been that way for a few months now.
3. Bots: GM's are banning bots but they won't just ban someone because you say they're a bot. I would not be a very happy camper if you reported me because I appeared to be botting; but was in fact watching a dvd while in a close spawn area, knowing my Paladin could handle anything thrown at it, spamming my "/next target & /attack macro" - only to be PMed by a GM, not see it and suddenly be banned. Innocent until proven guilty I hope...
4. Quests: Lineage II is all about the grind. It always has been, always will be. There are about 10 quests in game which you HAVE to do. No-one is making you do any others, count your blessings because not all RPGs are like this. I agree, the quest rewards for 200 keltir pelts (or whatever) aren't great, but in the Gracia patch they did say some rewards had been improved.
5. Community: There were no EU servers when I or the other very very large percentage of European players started playing Lineage II. However, everyone I have come across in my years of playing this game can speak English. Maybe one or two bot masters have given me the finger in some odd language but I've not had any problems with communication.
6. Skills: I and probably thousands of other people manage. If you don't like it, play somewhere else? Oh... yeah, you're quitting. Here's a horse. It's dead. Beat it.
7. Sephiroth: ..........? What? Next you'll be saying they stole Dwarves and Orcs from D&D. And humans from Earth.
The game itself is horrible. what is nice is the freedom of player the social and political life and ofc pretty graphics even tho its old game, thats imo what attracts players more than the gameplay which is boring, unbalanced and even monkey could play L2 cuz you dont really need any skill or brain to play.

1. The bugs you speak of seem to be specific to your PC as they are not true for me.
2. You can change the keyboard mappings to whatever you want, it is completely customizable.
3. Most bots are lower lvl cause they are consitently banned so you see alot at lower lvls.
4. Some quests are easy, most quests are hard. Guides are your friend. The game is not easy, it was designed to be hard.
5. You should of played on Bartz if you wanted an english speaking server. The community in Bartz is amazing.
6. Your class doesnt really develop their skills till about lvl 55 for fighters and 56 for mages.
7. There are 32 different classes..... The game is one of the most diverse for classes.
I think the graphics in this game are amazing, I don't know what you would consider good graphics.
Gamershell.com and fileplanet.com have lineage 2 free downloads.
Good luck with whatever game you try. You should check out AION it is a much easier MMO to play.

As for this thread...The OP didn't even try. He registered what, 5 days ago? I have played some really crappy games, but I made sure to experience a bunch of things before i made up an opinion.

I do beleive this game is not for everyone and its not designed to be a game that you can get to end-game in a month.. U want results, you need to put the time in geting your toon(s) up there. (the legit way ofc..)

I've never seen this bug and I've been playing for 4+ years. Just report it. Quite frankly, NC has never been amazing at doting all the "i's" and crossing all the "t's" but I really haven't experienced too many bugs

These can be changed and on my computer I do use them as the keyboard is very comfortable so it could just be the keyboard you are using. Otherwise change them and you should be good to go

This is an old problem and nothing new here. There are numerous threads arguing this issue. Also it has been stated by many that IP bans dont' work if you know how to get around them.

You must not have done your research on this game as this is the least of your worries. What would you have done when the game was released and it took weeks just to get to lvl 20? This is a hard core game (which has been made much MUCH easier) but the nature of the game is that it is difficult. This might not be your type of game then.

This game is not the "hey let's hold your hand and everyone will be ok" type of game. It really takes more effort on the player. It just does. Again, what would you have done in the early days when red clans would camp out the new player areas and they would pick people off for hours. And "no" not use the gatekeeper as no one had the money for that. You have to be proactive in this game.

Your problem here is that you don't really understand the mindset of our asian dev's. They don't have problems borrowing from other sources. It's done all the time. It's only recently that this has come to discussion. In addition, the idea of complete orginality was also not always in western culture either.

Well first of all it is an old game. If you compare it with what came out 4+ years ago you would see it is head and shoulders above much of what existed at the time. And the art design, in my opinion is superior to what is out there now.

Well it is obvious that this game would never and could never be your type of game because you are comparing it to City of Heroes/Villains.
Completely different types of games catering to different types of players. Why are you not comparing it to other pvp games? Or other Asian Grinders?
I just think that you didn't know enough about it going in (whcih to be honest, many people don't do their research before they try a game) and it is so far removed from what you were could ever like.

It's more then just that. It's the direction this game is going and that's legal botting Look around and tell me Botting is not Legal. I use to have a problem getting rooms because of farmers which was no biggie just train them.
Now It's all the big PVP clans. Even one I use to be in about a year ago that Kick anyone that was found botting now 60% of them bot and all over witches I'm shock who ever they at war with don't just come and get free points.
I have 7 Alts on 1 account + mu Buffer & WS on 2nd one and most of them are A grade and 2 are 58+ so they and my Sub hunt in witches. I try other places and they just don't have the Mob setup that I like in witches plus the fact I know that place like my own home I can log in at any spot and find my way around with no problem. Hell if you look hard enough you might find my Text and Campfire down there ;)

This is a garbage thread. The OP's relevant criticisms/observations have been noted many times before, and the rest appear to be knee-jerk reactions from someone who only just picked up the game, decided that being lvl 20 was boring, and quit.
While the perspectives of new players are important after a fashion (well, we DO want people to stick with the game to make it more fun for all), the perspective of someone who doesn't do the homework and judges the entire game based on a low-level experience isn't particularly valuable.

EVE-online, Guildwars (not technically an MMO, but meh.)
I haven't played many other MMO's to be honest. So those 2 are the only 2 I will claim to be better. Lineage isn't graphically bad, but it seems to be nearly the same quality of graphics as almost any other MMO in existence. (very newest ones like war/aoc not included).
I never pay much attention to graphics as just being graphics, everything can look good on an awesome machine, the thing that really makes a game worth it's weight for me is how it looks at a compromise of graphics for acceptable game-performance. I think L2 does this quite well.

There's not much to a point&click interface for movement, if it's functional and can make your character move, great.
Where i think L2 leaves a lot so be desired is the pathfinding, if there's anything in your way in a straight line you won't reach your destination, Not so noticeable when you just walk around normally, but when you have someone auto follow you in a catacomb for example, you'll notice the limitations this has very quickly.
Quite frankly I think the OPs perspectives are relevant. People want to have fun with new toys straight out of the box, not be forced to do research in order to enjoy something. If we're to expect people to want to delve deeper into the L2 inner workings, then the out of box experience should be one designed to further propel the newbie on toward new things.
Most of us here started when Gludin was where all the farmer shops were... or maybe Dion. We all had a lot of company as we struggled through those first 70 levels. To do it all alone, in desolate villages & hunting areas where the only other company are bots, is a drag. I have an alt I started with the Gracia launch... other than bots, it's bloody empty in all the lower level towns & hunting grounds.
Some of the OP gripes were just gripes, but I think if you compound the loneliness of starting a new toon today with the frustration of the bots, there's no wonder he had little if any motivation to seek more from the game.
FFXI is quite possibly the best MMORPG ever created. It's the only real MMORPG. All others are just solo fests with some MMO aspects. As for Lineage II's graphics, yeah they are dated. However, the character models still remain the best looking of all games I've seen that are out. It's mainly the environment graphics that are lacking, with a few exceptions.
Quite frankly I think the OPs perspectives are relevant. People want to have fun with new toys straight out of the box, not be forced to do research in order to enjoy something. If we're to expect people to want to delve deeper into the L2 inner workings, then the out of box experience should be one designed to further propel the newbie on toward new things.
Most of us here started when Gludin was where all the farmer shops were... or maybe Dion. We all had a lot of company as we struggled through those first 70 levels. To do it all alone, in desolate villages & hunting areas where the only other company are bots, is a drag. I have an alt I started with the Gracia launch... other than bots, it's bloody empty in all the lower level towns & hunting grounds.
Some of the OP gripes were just gripes, but I think if you compound the loneliness of starting a new toon today with the frustration of the bots, there's no wonder he had little if any motivation to seek more from the game.
Well I can't disagree there. Yes, the out of the box experience should be such that it invites players to explore the deeper workings of the game world.
However, having said that, one needs to know what type of game world they are getting into or at least be a good sport about exploring something different.
It's like going to England and complaining that you couldn't get a great tan. Well, Bahamas would have been better for that.
Things like point and click aren't inferior, they are different. Especially since the dev's had Diablo to inspire Lineage and then of course the sequel was a sequel.
Graphics are different than Art design. It's an old game and some things will just not be on the level of AOC as far as particle effects or shadows. And "yes" there is some sloppy texturing which can be seen in some of the landscapes.
But the Art design is first rate and a lot is put into it. There are some issues with it such as why female dwarves look different from everything else but there are good reasons for that difference.
But complaining about drop rates.. well that's the game and has been since its inception. Along with the grind.
If I go to the movies and I go see an action movie I shouldn't complain that it was loud and too much shooting, car chases etc and that I would have liked to have seen more character development and more subtlety in the storyline.
It's an action movie and I evaluate it against other action movies.
Guild wars: Good Graphics yet most of the players end up here playing l2 or playing both.

Hands down Linage 2 has set the standard on graphics and game play. Now they just need 2 fix the cheating part. or stop saying it's illegal when little to noting is being done.
urgh, i have to say i quit, a couple times. just couldnt stand the grind, no fun for the lonesome player. well i came back to gracia and whoa what an improvement.
i still hate one thing the most, wizards and magic casters and Magic crit. just ruined my whole **** day.. happilly gaining exp.. and then.. suddenly my 2500 hp drops to 0.. dead... OH hello.. magic crit 2658 damage -_- screw magic crits. I hate em. why should magic suddenly do 3 times more damage? at most it should do two times more damage, not oops your unlucky today u drop dead in 2 hits. -_-? (waiting for a brez all day now...*vents*)
i don't feel like regaining my exp and walking all the way back to the spot i was in, i might as well wait for my friend get brezed and hunt with him instead, and im not 58 anymore im right on the edge of 63...
what?? you mean anything below 75? I just said i don't feel like reganing my XP, and not to mention i was already getting bored by myself. if he doesnt wake up soon i might just work it back but x_X just don't feel like it? but anyway this is off the subject no?

Even if my M.Crits only did double damage, they'd still be a quick win for me every time it happened. ;)
On a relevant note, however, I have quit twice myself. I got bored, stopped playing, and just let my sub run out. Each time I got bored with the new game I was playing, and wound up back here checking out the new updates. Now with Gracia, I'm very excited about the game being more friendly for new players, and possibly drawing in more people for the time in a long time.
The OP was just a waste of my time, though. As soon as he said CoH/CoV was a 9, I immediately stopped caring about anything he had to say ( not that I really cared ONE scrubbly lowbie is not going to be playing anymore in the first place. )

No, as in I don't use/accept brez at all. If I get my hands on any (event etc) I sell them. If I die to mobs I have a healer rez me, and I work back the xp, trying to avoid doing same mistake again.
In all fairness though, I have a lvl 78 Eva saint with 80% rez, and although I havent calculated it, I think my 70 Bishop beats that rez percentage.
If the closest thing I have logged in is a prophet or shillien elder with 20% rez, I would use that though.
I just use the 40% from clan hall. yea it sends me way back in town but then I just restock get clan hall buffs and head out.
My 77 Wind Rider just never dies hunting when I'm solo. in groups if she does die (10 out of 10 it's because of the group ) I get bless rez but 99% of the time I solo.
She only dies if some one gets the jump on her in PVP like a mistake or me not having a bsoe on me. At that point I always use a Brez. That hardly ever happens thou and I stop PKing 68 PKs just gives me way 2 much karma.
yea i hear what you guys are saying, i don't have a clan hall, im a nomad, im alone. and my clan died many months / years ago and only soulless people seem to be in it anyway (like 2 but they talk sometimes?). i just invited my friend for the clan buffs and went on my merry way.
Oh and Coh/COV is great i have a few max level's on there but.... within the last few months My favorite characters got the nerf hammer, a very heavy heavy nerf hammer, and now i just.. don't wanna play it if im gonna suck. i don't compare coh to L2. they are different game types. but i wish l2's movement system was better. But with gracia out i really don't think i will quit. the game has become much less Mind Numbing.
I've been in a party with a lvl40 and died in raid wanting a brez/ shouting wtb a brez :o So... that's nothing I suppose? lol

Sounds like you got some personal issues there :p If it is your favourite character, you'll love it no matter how [censored] it is. You just give up if anything doesn't go your way. (It's just something for you to think about, but you don't have to think about it if you don't want to :))

Haha, at level 63 you can take a full XP loss, and get your lost XP back 10x faster than a level 79 taking a Bishop Rez :)

Racism. Sounds like they have a problem with Orcs.
History has shown that when we immediately lock/delete threads of this nature, people jump to the conclusion that we aren't being receptive. Or that we are censoring the bad in an attempt to suppress negative views. Or, that we are just not listening. In a nutshell, leaving the thread, deleting it, locking it....it's a no-win situation. But in the interest of fairness, I thought I would let it ride. Truth be told, I was interested to see the type of feedback this topic generated. But I guess this thread has lived out its usefulness.
