It's not botting. I use Nostromo.
why would I share my secrets with others? ;)
Because you're a considerate and giving soul who takes to heart the greater good of the community?

Because knowledge is the gift that enriches us all?

Because you enjoy assisting players who haven't had the benefit of a lengthy learning curve the way you have, thus keeping them interested, and keeping new faces in the game?

Because you don't want me to take you out behind the woodshed and tan your hide with a hickory switch?

Alright! I'll do it! Just don't touch my hide, please! I'm allergic to hickory! :)
Oh ya! Gravy's got my back!
what is Nostromo. ?

Every time I bust some one I know is botting he says he's using Nostromo. And I try the test and most of the time they fail so I figure they either using Nostromo (whatever that is) or they looking out for the test.

I come back later when they think I'm gone and do the bot test again and they past with flying colors and don't talk any more and leave the arrows on the ground.

So what is Nostromo? Does Nostromo = I'm botting but I'm at the computer so you can't prove anything?
/facepalm

Haha.
Shh...don't tell anybody, but I don't even *own* a switch. Reckon I could get one in a pinch, though.

And Ashley, are you serious about not knowing what a Nostromo is? If so, here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/game-controllers...?tag=mncol;also (http://reviews.cnet.com/game-controllers/belkin-nostromo-n52te/4505-3146_7-32685309.html?tag=mncol;also)

Basically, it's an uber-customizable gamepad made by Belkin (also comes in a non-glowy-blue flavor, but why settle for less-than-awesome!?). They're far and away more popular in FPS's, but they do see some niche use in MMOs as well.
Presumably, bot-nerds can get away with saying "I'm using Nostromo!" because in conjunction with in-game macros, the Nostromo can be set up to do pretty much anything you could possibly want it to do at the touch of a couple buttons.
So people using a Nostromo sometimes hunt with such consistency that they look like bots, but aren't.

TBH, the number of Nostromos in this game, I think, are very, very few. Most people who say are liars. They're botting and just happen to be at the keyboard to reply when you call them out.
a nostromo is a programmable keyboard extension.

you can make extremely complicated macros that can somewhat automate gameplay (i did level 1-134 in maple story in two weeks with mine.)

you can set up a macro with a sws (provided there's no bd in group you need to fold your songs with) that's just f5, delay 1.23, f6, delay 1.23, f7, 1.23. what that'll do is let you play normally as a sws and just assist and pull random mobs while the main tank is busy and you won't have to worry aboot watching for every 2 minutes and you'll never miss the songs.

cheating? well i first found out aboot it from plaync advertising it on their sites. it also gives an insanely unfair advantage in pvp because it lets you pop cp pots like 5x faster than everyone else.

practical applications: in lineage 2, it's very limited because it's a 3d game with gradient landscapes and stuff to get caught on. it can't think for you, either. can you bot with one? yes. is it an effective way to bot? absolutely not in this game. you can, however, make a macro to auto-assist a tank using the in-game macros for help...but that involves having a live tank thinking for you. here's what i mean:

i have hydravision so i have two monitors and run my ES on the big screen and my SE with a wolf on the smaller, older screen. rather than having to issue full commands for both SE and ES, effectively looking after 4 toons at once, i set up several macros on the SE in-game.
00 /target *name*
01/assist
02/attack
03/petattack
what this does is lets me hit a single button in-game to completely assist my ES with my SE and wolf, giving me an extra 2.5k p.atk from the SE. when there's no mobs and i just want to auto-follow with the SE, the same macro pressed twice will make them follow.

where the nostromo comes in, i set a macro with my nostromo out-side of game to switch input commands from one screen to another, press f12 to do the macro (or f11 to do it twice to follow) and then switch input commands back to the main screen.

in summation:

actually botting in l2 with a nostromo...i severely doubt it past killing one mob every 30 seconds and if there's any add at all, they're dead.

automating several commands together to save you time, energy, and wear on your actual hardware from the thousands of hours that l2 requires...completely understandable and is what it was designed for.

does it provide an unfair advantage? depends if you're stupid or not. you can program your keyboard to do whatever you want through windows with a custom layout if you're smart enough. the nostromo just lets you do it without changing your entire keyboard around and lets you program (with the newest drivers) like 500 macros/commands and change on the fly. not to mention, saving your wrists and filanges from the f-keys.

So people using a Nostromo sometimes hunt with such consistency that they look like bots, but aren't.

this basically sums up what i said if anyone ever asks you.

it also takes an extremely logistical mind to use it well. you get out of it what you put into it pre-game. i knew people who hated nostromos just because they were too stupid to use it.
Oh right, censored. But the BLEH site was already doing something like this.

Blah. You just have to know how to cheat at the forums. :p
I really doubt you can bot the game with a nostromo (or g15, basically same function)

The nostromo can't tell when a mob dies, or know your HP to heal, or well.. anything it can just perform key presses with build in delay. You could possibly do some functions that bots do like this(assists, buffs) but efficiently "botting" with it is impossible.
even if you try to set up a nuker to 1-shot mobs every 30 seconds (travel time-->mob actually disappearing so you can target a new one,) the first time your attack fails, you're toast.

even if you set it up to nuke 3 times to be safe and just get the error message that the mob is already dead, the social mobs will just destroy you.

the logistics of botting with a nostromo are just too impossible to plan out properly.

/facepalm

(Ouch) :(
The only "bot functions" you can perform with a nostromo is something simple like buffing(singing/dancing included), assisting target, delay based recharge/heals(very unefficient)

You could possibly set up a poler in a corner and pull mobs to him, with a /targetnext /attackstand macro, couldn't do it in any high risk area though. Or he's gonna die too easily
923 ? O.o!
not having a forum mod just got 10x cooler ^^
I am not able to make sense of the above post. O_o
Nostromo is too cheap to get so much hate. I got a n52 for 34.99 and that is seriously cheap for a piece of equipment that you use so much in a game. I seen some G10 keybaords for 40 bucks at best buy, and G15 for 99.99. There are other gaming keyboards/keypads for cheap/comparable prices that can be used with this game.

Almost every serious PvPer in this game (or serious player period) uses at least one of those types of devices to play this game.

It is simply too horrible to play the game any other way - even with the configurable keypad system they added in the game (when you can just turn on Enter Chat and have the Nostromo Map it to the key combo without having to change a thing).

The level of fun I get from PvPing in this game increased by about 300% when I didn't have to worry about fumbling over my keyboard to spam CP Pots manually.
