i'd like to ask omega just one thing:
"why ncsoft spending all that money developing
new mmorpg like aion and blade and soul etc etc while
it's full of problems here and no one i mean no one is caring bout that?
community is expressing its needs day after day but
no serious reply has been recevied yet.
what's going on?
is ship sinking?".
Well that's an easy one. companies don't rest on their laurels, there is a constant eye on the producct pipeline as the future health of the company is always at stake.
Now, smaller companies, or at least game companies, tend to be a bit more focused on one or two games, etc.
For instance, CCP has Eve, Turbine has LOTRO, ASheron's call and LOTRO.
However, since NC is a publicly traded company, they have to constantly make sure that they are growing and brining in money.
And I imagine each game has a calculated lifespan. The probably calculate when the "sweet spot" is and when the game just needs to be maintained.
I mean, the original lineage is still going but they don't spend millions upon millions on it for many reasons. It's graphically old, it's game play is old and though it has many subscribers it really doesn't stand to gain many more in today's market.
L2 is similar.
quite frankly I don't believe, if they still are planning to make this, that L3 will resemble Lineage or Lineage 2 as far as hard grind games.
It might be pvp focused but I don't think it will have the difficulty that its predecessors will have.
Also, for a company like NC, they have budgeted a certain amount of money for each game, for the development, for the maintaining, the staff, etc.
It's very departmentalized. So on one hand you might see many layoffs and on the other they will be hiring like gangbusters. I've been able to see this first hand with my company, a very successful company but one that constantly looks for how they can strengthen the bottom line.
