I've just been witness to a ban...

As it says in the title.

I submitted a /gm for a player advertising an adena selling website and the GM has accidentally CC'ed me into the mail to the culprit.

My confidence in the banning of 'bad users' has now just increased massively.

Siren, if you want the details of the naughty GM who copied me in on the mail, just ask.

Thank you NC.
lol, in fact u were banned to have reported an adena seller.

/irony on
do u realized u killed the market ? :)
/irony off
woooow
Screenshot or it didn't happen ;)
Adena seller, sure...
Bots? nope

I got DCed and my wolf droped some stuff on the ground and not in my inventory as they should.

I mailed NC about it and below is the response I got (btw this happened 2 months ago):

<font class="small">Code:<hr /><pre>Hi xxx,

The Enchanted Fenril Fang, Great Wolf Orichalcum Armor,
materials and Greater Healing Potions have been restored.
Luckily they were pick up by a bot train, so after banning them
and their bank and all associated accounts, I was able to just
move them back to your character xxx, plus an extra item.

Well this will never be a proof for nay-sayers, but thanks for sharing.
GM Pommo is the best.

He was one of the head GMs that restored my account after i was perma banned by a lower tier gm because of a bad judgment call.

People just have to remember GM's are not on 24/7 on ever server they have only a limited amount of GM's and only the top 5 can do restoring of items and accounts Spam and pommo are two of them, this I assume to stop GM's from favoring people they know personally.
it's always said that the good deeds rarely go reported/noticed. thanks for showing us the GMs are out there and working. kudos to the GMs in question.

Ever considered the link between the two ?
Spammers get banned pretty quickly, I found. One day, I came to my overnight shop to see some 50 PMs from one account. Reported. 10 minutes later, another (similar) account PMed me. Reported again. Some 15 minutes later, a third (also very similar) account PMed me with almost the same message. Reported again.

The spammer gave up that day, or maybe he ran out of trial accounts.

humm..

Edit: was beaten to it. Should read entire thread next time.
It was an EAB
For clarity... yes, it looks like my account was the one banned (by the wording of the e-mail) but I was in fact copied in on the e-mail (CC) therefore I saw what the culprit saw.

In addition, it's only just dawned on me this morning that if that is in fact the spammers real e-mail address, he now has mine. I'm now not as happy as I was when I first saw this. Time to ask why.
adena sellers and the like yes those get banned but known afk botters who have botted for years and are now 82+ no

Yesterday, just before I went to bed, I petitioned the first pm I got from an adena seller (I know it was the first because I was on for quite some time).

This morning, to my surprise, the message in the petition was not the usual canned nonsense. I don't recall the exact wording, but was like "we will look into this serious matter immediately and act now".

I scrolled back the chat window and indeed I had not received any other pm from that spammer during the night. My conclusion is that they did ban him in a very short time.

So +1 to NC from me too! It remains to be seen if this is just some random reaction, an update of the canned responses or a genuine effort.

And he has your account information too, since it was displayed at the end where the petition details were. I'm amazed that they include such information in a ban notice.

No, the account details I've blanked out at the bottom were the offenders, not mine. This is basically a ticket submitted to the offender with me copied in. All he has is my e-mail address. :(

Noooo, ofcourse I havent.......

Point that seems to have eluded you, is that adena sellers (spammers), do just that, spam all day long (rarely that long, they get banned swiftly). Real problem is real players botting and that is what I meant about the comment.
Which Im sure you knew, but I guess you woke up on the wrong side.

Btw, awesome GM Pommo =)
seen a billion spam accounts banned more often then not in a few mins... and yet i can find a hundred bot trains running 24/7 for years that are untouched
I guess thats because in NCSoft world spamming is itself the proof needed for the banning, whereas a botter's actions are not.
Honestly if clear actions arent enough to prove botting, i dont know what is.
I look like I'm botting in the field.

F1 = Attack
F2 = Hate
F3 = Macro {/nexttarget ; /attack ; /attack}
F4 = Macro {/pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup ; /pickup}

The rest don't matter.

If I'm in a field just doing the grind, I'll sick a DVD on the other monitor and hit F3. Once the noise stops, I hit F4. Once the pickup sounds stop, I hit F3.

I could be doing this, without looking, for an hour or longer (wireless keyboard on my lap). If I was ever accused of botting, I'd be very upset.
That's the difference of a clear chat log and just eye witness and observation of a behavior. Chat log is crystal clear. The behavior is not. The proof is that I've already been PKed on my scavy by "bot killers". Now for bot trains I must say it's more obvious, but I guess they need to use the same process to prove they are botting and don't count on observation only.
But if you know a method to identify bots that is not "duh I see it that's obvious!", contact the GMs and give them.
No i didnt mean repetitive actions. We all know grinding is all about repetitive actions.
I was talking about actions in general, as in stopping just before spoiling, imediately returning if the targeted mob has been attacked by somebody else, not answering to calls, PMs, attacks, taunts, and the list can go on and on.
We all know the typical bot behaviour, they're easy to spot and easy to check (except when the botter is at keyboard). If any normal player, even newbies, can identify botters or lets say 99% of them, how the hell cant a GM who has access to logs and other tools do it???

But if you know a method to identify bots that is not "duh I see it that's obvious!", contact the GMs and give them.

Get me a de-crypted dump of the full TCP/IP communication between the (possibly botted) clients and the server, and I'll give you the tools to identify most bots with 0% false positives.
