Destroyer Questions

Orc Classes Started Last reply 15 posts
This is probably going to sound totally noob-ish of me to ask these questions. But my first real 'main' in this game was my destroyer (Tamoh), and I had to leave her behind in a server move prior to the transfers. I went without playing her for 2 years (2006 was my last real run on her), so I feel like I'm still trying to get a grip on the changes they've made to the class. I tried getting her up-and-running again recently...NM heavy with a +7 Health DS, with some tats to pimp out the NM. Might sound like a wierd setup, but I enjoy playing as a sort of backup bodyguard for my hubby, who's a Gladiator.

Anyway. The NM was borrowed and had to be given back, as was the DS. A +3 non-SA'd DS I had got sold, so now my best bet is stripping my lvl 68 SE to outfit my orc (who's 65)--which I don't want to do, really--or somehow make do with what I have. My options currently are BW heavy, DC heavy (common), and some sort of agrade common weapon or bgrade weapon crafted at the lux shop. I'm sure there's another option, but funds are really tight for me.

I tried Tamoh with the DC common heavy and her +3 non-SA'd DS, and she SUCKED. Her tats from her previous NM/+7 DS setup are still on (which are -CON), and I'm sure that didn't help. But I'm wondering...is the Destroyer really that unforgiving with setups? I can't imagine it's that horrible of a class for me to play with crappy gear, at least to survive to sub. I really do love this toon and I hate seeing her parked on my roster. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

*edit* ....eh maybe I will delete all my toons and play my stupid dwarf, haha. ^_^
With the New V system you basically Need to level more then One toon.

Get rid of the tattoos all of them the basic set up is fine.

DC Heavy is not the Best Common Heavy Armor for A grade. Try to get Common NM or Common Majestic Heavy. The Common Armor stats don't manner so were looking at defense more then anything.

I hope that helps some but you really need someone that has a Main as a Destroyer to give the advice. I can only give a little. ;)
Thanks Ash, and I agree. I know I need to remove the tats, and probably get better common a-grade armor. So far for NM I have gloves and boots (the real versions), and a common helm. ^^ NM hvy common doesn't seem to be as popular in the market. I'll keep looking.

All depends on whether or not I think resurrecting my orc is worth my time. Though whatever my decision is, I will always hate seeing her just sitting on my roster. ^^
A Destroyer is most often found in Tallum Heavy or Majestic Heavy. With a source of good buffs, a Glad and Destro should complement each other well, in a case like yours (husband and wife team). When not a in a group, just go duo in a melee oriented place. As far as tats, I suppose many players tat down their CON, but I personally don't really recommend it. You start losing out on some of the stun resistance and other things that are an inherent advantage for a Destroyer.
first of all, common items do not give set bonuses. (i may be wrong but pretty sure on this)

if they do give set bonuses dont do dc heavy. tallum ++attack speed. maj ++def /stun resist, NM ++con.
if you are going to be cycling frenzy/guts use NM. if ur gonna just go at 100% hp do tallum

infernal master focus is ur best bet. if u go b grade, great sword focus. (personally i like the hp weapons with more p attack but less crit, but u will do less overall dmg)

standard tats are fine.
if u are going to grind safely, only using frenzy guts in emergency do -con +dex and str.
if u are using frenzy/guts regularly standard is best, depending on play style -str +dex (not recomended, but it has benifits)

i am a 79 tyrant and 75 destroyer, in comparison of the two i hated destro as i subbed it just as they ruined frenzy. if i did it again i would go with a 1 hand blunt cause the slow attack speed and missing all the time killed my enjoyment. u will lvl faster with 2 hand but it nearly made me quit it was so frustrating.

imo, go dwarf or tyrant....

this man knows wassup, for reals. he speaks the truth and nuttin' but the truth.
Destro > Tyrant

Destro > Tyrant

correction: 79+ destro > tyrant

otherwise tyrant rules
correction: It depends on circumstances. Both potentially rule.
I know common doesn't give a set bonus. I've used it before.

Also, saying that one class is better than the other is all opinion-based. ^^ Doesn't matter anyway, as I chose my main and it doesn't include my orc, unfortunately. Just how things turned out. But thanks for the help and advice, and interesting thread. :)
I started with Destro as my main, but I've had enough and I'm re-rolling. I'm mid 60's so I do realize I could be missing out on some 'supposed' potential *laughs hardily* but why suffer with an inept toon when I can just re-roll a much more fun and capable class - hellooooo DA.

2 hand blunt is the way to go IMO just because you can take advantage of the hammer crush stun skills - stunned mob = take less damage, and I went with NM to add some damage and take advantage of the resistances like sleep.

Tallum isn't good for destroyer because it adds 8% attk speed, well big whoop because 8% of crap is still crap, barely more crap. Where as with NM u get 4% dmg which will result in a more significant gain. 4% of 800 (32) is more than 8% of 100 (well...8). This also helps resolve your tat situation a bit with the NM cuz it gives some +Con. Bleed resist on tallum isn't a huge factor either because destro gets bandage.

That's just my opinion, I'm sure many will disagree.
well i have a 68 destro with that i have gotten there wearing bw heavy and a gs+6/focus. i also have a +4str-4con tattoo.

i recently got a tallum set for the +8% haste.

with just se buffs and a haste 2 pot, i level extremely efficiently out at seal of shilen doing the maj rec quest.

i see no point in playing a character in a boring way, or not using their skills to the best of their abilities. yes, you may die from a stun during frenzy but w/e, it wont happen very often and you have vitality.

since all destro skills are based on attack speed, +8%haste on tallum is GREAT. also get a cursed dagger/rsk.haste when you do use reinforcement skills. basically it is work down to 30% life, equip dagger, buff up lionheart(same timer as frenzy since that is impossible to see) rage frenzy zealot, switch back to sword, use CoD to keep hp low if you have vr and whack away. when that is done, lower hp again (it should still be low) requip dagger, then buff up guts/br. that can be cycled nearly all the time and in almost any place in the game if you're not aoeing....it even is plausible when fighting stun mobs in the middle of witches.

if you dont play the class with its 'emergency' skills, it will not be any fun and i suggest you re-roll. it is no fun just being a mediocre dd and looking at all your skills ready to use but never being able to use.

and yes Tallum Heavy is the best armor you can get for a destroyer plus a focus sword, specially for the grind. a destroyer is called that for a reason, smashmouth and upclose. dont hinder it by not giving the class the right tools. tallum, focus 2H, let the murder commence.
I enjoyed wearing NM plus a dragon slayer with health and a slew of tats to make me beefy. ^_^ I acted more as a bodyguard, and the dragon slayer I had (borrowed it) was +7. So that plus the NM was awesome. I *did* get to use my emergency skills like guts/frenzy (first used them back in C3)...so I'd say it was a good experience all around. I would still be with my destroyer if the only two classes I had ever tried were an SO (baby SE, woot) and Destroyer, like back in 2005...BUT I've rerolled too many times to count and I've tried nearly every class (every archetype at least) in the game. So now I find myself playing something else, though I miss my Destro at times. Oh well, that's just how it turned out. ^^

Thanks again for all the advice. :)
i wouldnt change my tyrant for anything.
