up till the point he left i was slowing getting to the point where as soon as i seen his name i just closed the thread
guy was cool but i really don't need the sorta headaches i got trying to decipher what he was saying
It's easy to insinuate that if you don't find his babbling funny, that's just because you didn't understand. But I understood his posts and under the layer of his different style, there was nobody.
His humor was very heavy. Intellectual *********ion and an apparently big self-esteem, but his posts were only hiding a zero without real self-confidence, seeking the attention of everybody (friends and enemies) to have the feeling he existed.

(I know this post is a half yer old... Resurrecting initiated)
Well that's more scorn in one post than what he showed in a week or so...
He was clever and funny. Even if a bit heavy sometimes. Attention ***** prolly a bit too... but if you failed to find the humor I wouldn't blame it on him... You joined approx when he left also... so you missed all the history behind his boards character. It helped...
He had 7k posts when he left and he had had them reset at 5k mind you.
He was also a pal and a very good boards animator. Spent too much time here also... he never subclassed...
no only a regular customer like you and me. He was even banned once. One of the very few who could come back. (hooo sorry I had read too fast and understood you asked if he was an administrator :-p my bad..)
His posts usually consisted of riddle like phrases or paragraphs.
The words and sentences he used would not directly state what he was saying or commenting on but would sort of shadow his point.
The best I can come up with is that his posts were like pencil drawing.
You don't really draw things like the nose but you draw the shadows that fall around the nose and by where and how they are drawn you get the outline of a nose.
His posts were like those shadows.
I have to say that I liked Dark Motion a lot because he was interesting and unique. Added a different sort of spice to the forums.

And I think he did make the kanemotion thing.
To be accurate and honest Sovrath, SOME of his posts were like that. Many of them were pointless, nonsensical, and mere troll fodder.
When he was good it was.....sometimes interesting and occasionally amusing. When he was not so good it was irritating and meaningless.
but hey, some poeple like to eat raw fish! Different stuff fits different tastes!

Well, I can't say whether or not his posts were successful. But I think the raw fish analogy works well as some "got" or appreciated his posts and to others they tolerated or hated them.
Just a personality thing I suppose and how people are wired.
Like the time some friends of mine turned on cable and there was a mystery science theater episode on. So we were watching it and laughing. The father of one of my friends came over, sat down and watched for about 15 minutes and then he looked at us and said "what is funny? I don't understand what you are laughing at?"
Of course, him being older, what he would recognize as being funny would be things like Old Dean Martin movies or Jerry Lewis or some such thing.
I imagine with Dark Motion it was sort of the same thing. If one liked or appreciated esoteric or bizarre chat then it worked. But for others... not so much.
Along those lines, if anyone ever gets the desire to see a completely bizarre movie (and can tolerate them) I highly recommend this:
if you understand WHAT is funny about Monty Python, and WHY it is funny, you can get the jokes DM made. he was funny to an analytical crowd, not to the kind of people that would watch Family Guy or the Simpsons.

I thought that was him. At the time I thought it was a cool and unique idea. So much so that I named one of my alts BartzMotion. The name of course tells you which server it's on.
and I miss his posts as well. There were times that I just ignored them, other times when he made me scratch my head in confusion, and even times when he made me laugh. Oddly enough, I never actually found him to be boring....not sure what that says about him....or me for that matter.

Well, having seen a few forums over my involvement of playing these online games, for me, it's nice to see something different than the usual crying, insulting, complaining, flaming, etc.
You can't accuse me not to understand, so you're saying I've bad humour or lack of?
How should I say it?
Monthy Pythons are funny and subtle. DarkMotion was heavy and the funny trait was so visible from ten miles away and needed so many circumvolutions to pass before reaching the point that any chance for IT to be funny was dead ten years ago.
I'd rather link his humour to the french comics "Achille Talon". If don't shoot yourself before the end of the strip, there might be some kind of joke. Maybe another sense for "killing joke".
You can wave your nostalgia all you want, tell me I arrived here when he left although I registered on the boards one year after actually starting the game (and I don't start a game without reading a lot about it, so that includes the forums), I'll just toss your insinuations to yourself. The pseudo-intellectual humour of DM makes the simple-minded laugh and worship him.
I never got any one of his posts except the one where he said he was leaving.
I used to give kudos and congratulations to anyone that found any kind of useful information to those little spiels of his. And to everyone that was in that small circle..God bless you!
I will give him the benefit of the doubt though, and just conclude that he is a genius and I am a simple dullard on which such complex and obviously highbrow intellectual musings are lost.
At reading you I think he rather made the average reader haughty and unpleasant...
Achille Talon ce n'est pas de l'humour c'est tout juste parfois cocasse.
And don't feel the need to justify the fact it was a degree of humor you didn't get. It happens. Don't need to blame your self or to attack the others...
By your reg date I was suggesting you probably didn't get the chance to see the whole picture, not minimizing your opinion, nor waiving any nostalgia.
"Simple minded" ha ha ha...
Talk about missing a chance of being funny at someone else's expanse...
He was rather an Inspecteur Gadget or a Pink Panther with a touch of cleverism and insight ;-) Ans probably as irritating...
