SK -magic or physical?

Hey guys, its been a while since I played L2, dusted off my phantom summoner and SK. I currently am level 41 and have a +4 sword of nightmare. I notice while fighting all but one of my attacks are magic in nature. feezing strike, life drain, life leach, poison, hex, power break, etc all magic in nature. Sting....physical (i guess?) So my question is should I be using a P.atk based sword like the sword of nightmare that I have, or a M.atk based sword?
Xping doesnt really involve using up all your mp, so most of the time you will just be meleeing the mob. Go for patk sword not matk.
and for pvp? i like it when my poisons land, my freezing strike lands, my hex and power break. they never do with patk sword -_-
Those things arent gonna land much even with a matk sword. You can keep an extra sword for pvp, but that will get very costly as you get higher lvl and weapons start costing alot more.
C: Samurai Long Sword [Focus]
B: Damascus [Focus]
A: DLE [Health]/[Rsk.Focus]
S: Forgotten Blade [Focus]

Definitely you should use sword based on P. Atk because you're exping and PvPing using mostly physical attacks.

Just stick with P attack. despite all your Magic your still a Fighter Class and not a mage class. so the magic is Only Secondary. You don't even have the INT of a Orc Mage (31 INT) and that's LOW Int for a Magic User. yet you have 41 STR.

If you really want more M attack go for a ++++ sword but in the long run even with a +16 Sword a WC would still have more M attack then you with just a Common sword.

You could also try using duals in Vanguard stance. Im doing it on my SK sub and it seems to work fine. I'm mostly doing it coz I dont have a damascus sword, and my options from my weaponry warehouse were either a common Keshenberk or a +4 Tsu*Sls dual.

Seems to work fine :D

1-handed Sword + Hex = Duals, not worth to buy imo.
if you want your magic attacks to land also make sure you have Bsps with you not just Ss I have a lvl 67 SK and I keep about 1k worth of Bsps on her at all times, it helps.

Higher patk when in Vanguard = mobs die faster anyway, but u spend less money on shots. But hey, feel free to use ss and bsps to kill mobs :D
1h sword with focus > vanguard duals w/o focus.
Focus on my FB increases my dps by about 20% with only death whisper and dance of fire buffs, and a lot more when fully stacked.

1h sword/focus + hex >>> vanguard (hex ~ 30% more damage)

You can xp with duals if you can afford 2 weapons, but you will not be able to pvp, raid etc.

So... choice is yours.

PS - lol at ss and bsps cost.

what he said
I'm using tsu*sls +4, thats focus duals...

I also dont pvp, but when I tank raids I use sword and shield.

I dont have a problem with ss cost, my main is 78 Arcana lord, I can make easy fast money on that one, no need to do it on a 5x sub lol. But maybe the OP hasnt played the game for 4-5 years and have as much as I do?

I'm also fairly sure that when I hit a-grade I'll be using my Tallum*Dama +4 instead of buying an A-grade sword with focus.

Vanguard is a valid option to lvl an SK IMO.
There is no a grade 1h sword with focus.
There is no a grade 1h sword with focus.

That solves it then, Ill keep using vanguard :D
Both suggestions for 1-handed sword SA focus (when available) and even duals are valid as you mainly grind with melee attacks.
If you are on tank mode, go for 1-hand with shield
If you want to PRETEND to act as DD, I believe the duals do give more DPS.

About using your magic attacks, like hex and power break (best value for your mana I reckon), you should carry a C-grade secondary weapon with SA magic attack, namely an ecliptic sword with this SA (cheap and affordable in terms of weapon/shots etc.).
Place on shortcut bar no 10 your weapons (and shield, if need) and BSSC shots
Then use this macro
1) change weapon to the ecliptic sword (use appropriate shortcut key)
2) use the shortcut key, where you have placed the BSSC shots
3) useskill Hex
4) useskill Power Break
5) change to your main weapon (use appropriate shortcut key)
6) re-equip shield, if you have the 1-hand sword+shield setup (use appropriate shortcut key)

Note that MAtt affects fully the land success of debuffs (not its sqare root like on nukes).
The SA Magic Attack costs 1.15% of the normal MP cost, and as a tank you need your mana for hate, so use the debuffs sparingly.
The Sting skill is good for overhit only, IMHO... not bad if you can spare the mana.
The Drain Health behaves like a nuke I believe and it will restore a decent amount of HP, only when you get lucky and have a magic crit.... in any case if you really need it, you have a bad setup/party/tactic.

Vanguard is not a "pretend dd" skill. It works great. Higher patk, and u can still use some of the skills (Aggression and Hate Aura are 2 of them).

I can still tank for pve in vanguard, but I probablly wouldnt use it in raids.
on a side note, to switch items and use spells with macro, they don't have to be on the visible hotbars... you can put all the items/skills you want to switch up and use on, for example, hotbar 10, then put the command in the macro to use hotbar 10 button X, but keep only toolbar 1 2 and 3 visible, and it will still work.
You dont need secondary weapon. Hex land rate with bsps is very good on white/green mobs, and thats the only magic skill worth using vs. mobs. The more weapons you carry, the less shots you can take and the more often you have to stop killing and restock.
And dark elfs are notorious for not being able to carry much :D
I used vanguard when I was in C grade and that was it. Ever since Sword/shield with Hex has always out damaged it. With +Int-Wit and Bsps Hex and Power break land about 90% of the time in PVE and about 75% of the time in equal lvl pvp. Lightning strike is also effected by the +Int and the land rate of the paralyze effect goes up significantly as well. Im currently using a +8 DLE/Health and wouldn't trade it for any other a grade wep for pve or pvp.
Ofc you wouldnt trade a +8 a-grade wep for any other wep, especially when its the weapon you would use on a raid.

Lets say I have +12 s grade duals. I would probably use nothing but those the moment I hit 76.

Lightning strike can be used in vanguard as well, so not sure why you brought that up.

+8 Tallum*Damascus would probably be better dps than ur sword...
oh no question it would be better DPS but im saying the efficiency of soloing with a Sword/shield is better. Im not starting a fight or sayign one is better than the other so im not sure why ur getting so confrontational. You dont kill any slower with a nice sword/shield and u stay alive and take less damage so u can solo longer without breaks. Thats all im saying. If you can solo in vanguard and you kill faster and still dont take damage than by all means use it. It only makes sense.
vanguard is resonable on every tank class thats not a SK...
for SK its a joke
hex + top (?) Grade sword w/ focus > Vanguard + top (?) grade duals w/ any SA
only time i would consider it would be A grade since tallum blade is crappy and DLE doesnt have much for dmg SA... still your better off to get a OE dama w/ focus, if you spent the same amount on a OE dama as a pair of Dama*tallum duals you whould have a very nice weapon useable for solo through 76 and you could use it in partys w/ a shiled and not have a pdef decrease... the same can not be said for duals
I've been using vanguard for quite some time, and the loss of pdef is not that big. I still dont have to even heal myself. Given the fact that most parties dont really need a tank pre-hellbound, I'd say that getting duals for exp and common sword for raiding is a good idea.
You can alway level a wolf to got extra p atk ;)
Or you can find a decent clan who are allways willing to take you to party.
Quick Question, Just about ready for my final sub, Pretty shure ill be going SK, My question is, I allready have a +7 Elysian/Hlth on my Dorf, Would this be a viable wep for a SK or should I simply look to obtain a sword (and if sword, What would be the recomended one through A grade ).
Will be soloing most the time with my SE or Doomcryer (**** it was easy lvln this toon along side my PS, CoV in 2 more lvls).

You will be fine using elysian +7. Most of your skills work with a blunt, just not sting, so dont bother learning that skill.
