Not much in it for the bots to be fair. A few extra buffs means nothing to a 24/7 player. Unless they're lucky enough to get the +10 A-grade weapon of course.
The only downside is where there are more bots visited than players in the 4-hour period.
all the NC soft events that we got lately where PRO-bots (think of the pumkin event - some of the bots opend tons of pumkins even with bot groups hitting the pumkins) why should this event make an exception?
What did you expect? It's a stupid event anyway...there will be some who won't even see how Santa looks. In order to have a fair choice and to be visited by Santa you will have to grind for hours and hours and the difference between a bot and a real player is that the real player needs to eat,drink, sleep, take care of the kids, spend time with the wife and so on...
Way to go for rewarding the bots:(

the town buff is awesome, the save Santa is funny and I've had Santa visit my xp group 3x in the 4hrs I was grinding and it gave a nice break as my whole party tried to be the first to click him lmao.. managed to get 1 package myself ^^

Ppl were whining bithching and moaning that events were all similar, they serve a very different new event and you're bithching.
Ppl requested to have events to favor players more than bots by avoiding the L2 letters effect (botters getting everynthing), they do it through a huge leet buff that all can get at anytime as long as 30 live players defeat the "boss" (ie: Turkey).
To top it of , they make sure these items are like 4 hours span , which is precisely the average playtime for legits..

just order your character to attack any npc out of the city and go do your buisiness, when you come back you may find "gifts" in the inventory.. no need to bot. of course some jerk may opt pking you for no reason but you can do it with low level alts (seems like socks can be exchanged so just give them to your main)
as you see no need to bot to have 24/7 event participation. unlike soem other previous events.

Yeah, I hunted for basically the 4 hours after santa was freed (the message went out right after I logged) and got nothing. I think Santa is a sexist because all of the people I know that got something are female toons, or LE males.
I wont complain about bots getting more stuff though, EVERY EVENT EVER DONE IN LINEAGE 2 HAS ALWAYS FAVORED BOTS. They will have a much higher chance of getting the real +10 weapons, just a fact of playing the game now. Its much too late to change that.
Unfortunately any event that (seemingly) requires killing random monsters out in the field will tend to favour bots simply because there are more of them and they "play" longer. They have to be fair to everyone so bots get included in this mix. In order to exclude bots from this event, they would have to have Santa detect whether the player/group he's about to visit is bot-run, but if they could do that, we wouldn't be in this mess would we? Or they could reengineer the event in a different way, but that's too much work for little gain, and it's fine the way it is.
All they needed to do was make it so you had to interact with Santa in order to claim your prize. That would have kept bots out of action for a bit since they'd have to write into their macro code what option to pick and so on and so forth... too much for little gain for the bots, nice freebies for legits.

Or Blazing Skin (Freezing Skin) the NPC works too... It's VERY tempting to do that with people AFK hitting NPCs. It really makes me ****** off to see that.
Seriously? That's not even needed. My Prophet got a present while leeching from my Soul Breaker, sitting. She wasn't healing, she wasn't buffing. She was sitting down.
And if I had Blazing Skin on any of my characters, you bet I'd toss it on the NPC.
So hey, I'm a little confused. I witnessed people getting santa visits by just chillin outside a peace zone. They were not in combat, or in a party that was engaged in combat... they were just chillin.
I am not one to exploit bugs but I mean I can just go afk for a few days in a secluded spot somewhere outside a peace zone??
I am a fan of NCSoft holiday events but I am not sure they put in enough effort on this one lulz. (59 TH running around with a +10 2h B grade wpn.??) Please Please Please fix it fast.
I don't know, Brewno (By the way, I saw you shouting last night in Giran :D). First I thought it would be "combat stance". Meaning that whenever you were in combat stance, you'd get a chance to be visited by Santa. In fact, I was trying to cut down the downtime between mobs as much as I could.
Then my leeching Prophet that was sitting on the floor doing nothing got visited, and I had to review that.
Honestly? I have no idea anymore.
And yeah, I really hope they fix it soon. Although it WAS cool to have a +13 Dragon Slayer on my Necro. She looked awesome :D

But I am not trying to figure it out, I was happy to see that my lazy Prophet was able to get a gift by sitting on her bum :D... maybe Santa's a sucker for pretty girls? Cause I was on my MALE Soul Breaker and he didn't visit him, yet he visited my FEMALE Prophet and my FEMALE Necromancer on the same day...
Then again... last night before I went to bed, he had been saved by a character named bigbOObs... so you know :D

But yeah the only time I have ever been visited by the fat man was in party. I was in party for about 3 hours. He visited our Hawkeye 1 time, Me 1 time, and our Leaching SE 5 times. 7 Times in 3 hours and the majority of the visits goes to our leacher.
Once the party broke up I went out solo. I was out and about for about 6 hours. 0 visits from the fat man.
So I decided to ask around, see if anyone had similiar issues. Out of 20 players 20 of them had only been visited while in party.
Very possible its just another bug that needs worked out, unless someone can tell me that they have had a santa visit solo and be truthful I am convienced you need a party, and its another bug among many.
(And yes I, later I grabbed my brothers account and had him leach in party to test it, sure enough his toon got a visit.):)
The event team must really be hanging there heads. But really, great idea, I love these events. Seeing everyone running around in Dwarven Village again brings me back to the old days.
And it's funny as hell seing the lowbies trying to kill the Poor Turkey lulz.

And the bigbOObs thing was funny as heck. I was laughing at home so much at the jokes that it was starting to hurt. That, and we were debating that Santa's truly a womanizer because he only visited our clannie's FEMALE toons :D First our warsmiths (both female toons in game), then one of the Warsmith's EE, then my Prophet, then my Necro, all girls. While the male toons remained without seeing the fat man.
So when the announcement thanked bigbOObs for saving Santa, I went like "I told you!!" in ally chat. Fun times.
I haven't gone to the Dorf Village yet, but it's because, honestly? I know it's become a PvP-crazy spot and I'm not willing to get lagged while the ubers pvp themselves to death there. So I just go out and hunt and hope Santa visits me.
It's been a fun event for a change. I'm enjoying it very much, even if I don't get a +10 A grade weapon :D
Yup I am truly jelous. I'm thinking about making a buffer and sitting her in random parties, see what happens...lulz.
Yeah it is fun. Got a screen cap of me weilding a +16 Angel Slayer or whatever its called, the 2H S grade wpn. Then we ran off to some raid bosses with some event scrolls and a few different juices. Got like 43% in 2 hours on our post A grade toons (59-60) So good times all around.
((No the raid bosses hate us and we never get good drops))
I wont be suprised to see alot of others taking advantage of that.
I don't really want to encourage the populace to exploit the event. I mean sure no one can really stop you but... eh whom am I trying to conveince, people will do what they want lulz.
Oh I also failed to mention, every santa visit has been in a cata or necro in my experience, now I havnt asked around but I am sure santa visits topside right??

Brewno, I got Santa spawning at VoS. My friend got it on Blazing Swamp, and another friend in ToI.
So yeah, it spawns outside Catas heheh....

I wouldn't mind getting PKed (or just killed by a wartag) either - I'd shrug, noted if I get any items while lying dead there, and if not went to town (if I did get items, I'd just keep lying there until the end of the year, obviously). That's the price you always had to pay for going AFK outside of a safe zone, and I'm willing to pay it.

I don't feel angry for that 2 pk of my MAIN charactere 4% lost on his 76.
I just feel sad that you consider that playing AFK a bit trying to have a chance more than bot to get the reward is bad. Unfortunately in 4 years i'm not able to afford any s grade 'i still wonder how SO MANY ppl just come over the last 2 year and are nowfull s grade and epics.
The game allow us to do be afk and hitting an npc outside town for that I don't feel guilty

Stop your crying about not being able to afford what others have, there's always people having more as much as having less, you can debate on how they got there. Enjoy the game and be content with what you achieved without resorting to "game mechanics".
free COV with no speed restriction that last an hour long. stackable with btb zerk and everything else. i cant complain been visted by santa 3 times but never for me always someone in my party. been out to free santa like 2 times both had an army of people there. so i'd say people are enjoying just having something to do. though i would have loved some scrolls to dwarven village or put santa at fantasy island. i know it makes sense to be dwarven village but 100k total porting when i see "save santa" flash on my screen is a bit redundant. ::shakes of negitivity:: thats why santa hasnt visited me... he knows im jealous... and harbor negativity... he can fell that u know... maybe forums needs to be shot with the cupids bow chrono with forgiveness..
in all honesty this is one of the best events people who dont usually partisipate in could get. you dont actually have to partisipate to enjoy it. just be outside town gates. more than enough people are free'n santa. he pops in randomly giving gifts. and you get to use a + up weapon for not doing anything more than what you already do... GRINDING AWAY! heck one person was just standing around waiting for a raid that got visted... just STAND OUTSIDE THE TOWN GATE... jeezzzz

I assume like many other events, the chance of Santa paying you a visit goes up as the server online population goes down, so better to be out and about during non prime time hours?
As a fully Viking I never BSOE I just let me die on the ground, no more often than twice a day. I go afk and hit the chamberlain in clan hall until i calm down 3 days after ;)

So if I consider all the death hudson got in TH or HE mode to reach 76 I think both class are level 80 :)

I believe that every honest player should afk on some random npc in hostile area to. A sort of statement maybe.

I'm sorry if i sound bitter, it's just how I feel about this god-forsaken event. Luckily my holidays (starting this Friday up to the 4th) will be pretty much hibernating (zleeeeeeeep) and playing or wasting time pretty much but still the random thing makes it feel like there's no actual event to begin with.
The designer of this quest, I'm sorry to say, failed. (in my opinion, ok? :p)
He wasn't Pked. He probably died from the NPC's Freezing Skin.
And I still don't think it's a nice behavior to just go afk and leave your toon hitting an NPC. Say what you will, I still don't think it's a good thing to do.

My apologies. Posted it before we started to talk...seeing so many afk chars hitting the NPCs I assumed he was just anotherone doing the same.
OMG I thought you needed the special Santa hat in order for Santa 2 visit you. So I always get that first. If they Made the event that way you won't see Santa giving bots Gifts. Notice non of the bots with the hats that go away in 24 hours.
Make it so Santa only come 2 people wearing the Special Santa hat and change the 24 hours to only 12 hours.
