I don't know about you guys, but I'm tired of people always trying to get around events and other parts of the game. I play on Sayha and while running around doing my quests I have to see these people trying to exploit the current Save Santa event. Obviously they're leaving their characters in game and attacking NPC's in safe, non-peace zones to increase their chances at getting event items to either sell or use (more than likely just to sell). I wish there was a way we could get all these accounts banned until the end of the event. So sick of these exploiters!!!!

Sorry to say this, but bots will probably take 98% of this event's rewards.
People wacking away at npcs in combat areas are sort of the "legit person's" way of actually participating in this screwed up event somewhere closer to what the bots are doing.
I don't know, I'm actualy rooting for them, forgive me if it sounds weird, but maybe many would agree with me. Argh... (noooooooo~!)
Anyway, I'm inside our castle doing the same thing.
As someone else has already posted... this is our payback for the bots. I'm going to continue to attack an NPC in the castle until the GM's tell me not to. Come join me..

think of it this way, they werent making a difference by making the bloodswords drop, they werent gaining your exp zone, they werent botting, they werent winning/loosing a war to enemies. they were simply in attack mode. given there are no paramaters to knowing who is at keys and who isnt, its safe to say they were in attack mode (even if they didnt need to be).

last night my 5x summoner got visited by santa in FOG and you can bet it wasn't attacking anything

buff the NPCs reflect damage and walk away, at least you will get a good laugh out of it
So find someone to cast Blazing Skin or Freezing Skin on the npc. Watch as they kill themselves.
Can't kill anyone like that if they either have VR buff or are attacking the NPC with nothing on. Most people will be doing 0-1 damage to the NPC with no weapon equipped, so they will be getting 9 damage from the reflect damage buff.
They'd have to be pretty stupid to be attacking the NPC with weapons on, and especially with soulshots turned on.
They could make the npc's killable just for the duration of the event. Personally I'd love to see that! :-)

If Nc says its an exploit sure I stop but I dont really think they think its and exploit either.

lol yes, they could make it so that you flag when hitting a npc, like how it was during beta/prelude ;)
Inside castle, attacking NPCs over night on 2 of my toons. I got one stocking on each before one of my very kind and friendly clanmates decided to hit me with a lose target skill. I was not happy :'(
Anyway... how can attacking an NPC be an exploit? It's a game mechanic. People do it all of the time, so I'm going to do it until NC say otherwise.
Plus.. how can you differentiate between a player casually hitting an NPC or a player hitting an NPC just to get event rewards?

Although to be honest. I think this is great. I run any account I'm not using in a minimized window attacking an NPC. I don't care if other people think it's an exploit. As long as it's not against the rules.
This is the legit way of doing it, when the bot cata-groups are removed/stopped I'll be happy to stop. But until then, This is my way of taking a few of the stockings from the bot army. And I'll keep doing it whenever I'm not actively using my account for something else, or until they announce it as an actual game exploit(right now it is within game mechanics, and requires nothing to do, not even a G15/nostromo, just attack an NPC and go to sleep).
And I wont be selling my stockings. I'll be using them myself or give them away to clan members.

I'm confused though, because my buffer got a gift the other day and I am pretty sure she was not in battle stance. I don't think she was in party either (but I am not sure about that). She was not buffing though, I was killing mobs and she was just...standing there :P
yeah. why do they say that both in game and out game. i once freed santa and got nothing even though he told me to come to him when santa is freed. and they say there're 3 requirements but they only listed 2. it's all so misleading. i hate this event period.
I love this event. Its different. Fun. The rewards are interesting and relevant to all levels/classes.
If you don't like it then I suggest you just sell your gift sets for the mil + they are worth and ****.
I completely agree. I think this is one of the best events l2 has had in a while. It's up there w/ the bunny transformation event and the rando-raid boss spawn event ^^
It's nice to just get randomly rewarded while exping (or PVPing :P we got quite a few visits from santa while we were pink too) and the freaking santa buffs (both town and scroll) are AWESOME 0_o.
It's unique, festive and I would MUCH rather have these awesome free buffs THAT STACK and ++S-grade weapons to use for pvp/exp than like 500 EAD/EWD.

combat zone is probably what they should have said. I have gotten visited running out of Ivory Tower on a 44 SPS subclass so it isnt restricted to certain classes or being in combat.
And for me the event is worth it from the buff alone...we did frint the other day and I dont think anybody died this time because we all had 10k+ HP. I could live that all the time :)

I've been hunting normally and got nothing (tonight someone in the party got a socket though). I let a char hitting a npc all the afternoon and got nothing.
This thread has been up for a few days in the middle of the week and some officials answered other threads. So if it was an exploit, they would have told it and locked the thread.
As I get nothing through normal play, I'll let a char in the wild when I'm working. Two events getting nothing while playing normally? No way. I don't care if bots get things because it's a bit unavoidable, but I should see something or it's not an event.

Ive had my non-combat hierophant get it while just buffing, my ws while assisting, myself while standing next to a raid, tanking a raid, or just running to a raid. I think im up to 10 socks so far.
The poor bishop in our raid party has yet to get a gift tho.
I confirm Purp's discovery. I had 1 toon hitting and she got goodies. The other one stopped atacking early I assume (probably a "firendly" player hit him.. ) and he got nothing :/.

I got already 1 sock on 2 of my toons. It's been fun, i got a +6DLE for a warrior and a +6DSH for a mage. Hey, the wpn and the buffs make you lvl way faster so even if you don't have the reward the buff is already good enough.
I don't know... i just don't like when ppl start complaining over free stuff.
The buffs you get from the gift package are awesome. I keep extra gifts until the next day so I can start out xping with the buff scrolls (yes, you can trade the gifts, so I always keep an alt active on my second computer to double my chances).
People don't complain about free stuff...they complain about ppl getting 1/5/100 free stuff and people not getting any...

Those of you who got nothing, do you solo a lot? I never get any visits from santa when I solo, but when I party with my buffer he always gets. I think Santa loves parties and buffers :)
Last night, during a raiding group, the tank was visited by Santa 3 times. Twice in rapid succession, as in the "Gratz" and "Wow" messages were still being delivered when the second visit happened.
Another odd thing was that this tank was just grousing about how Santa never visited him and the next time he saw Santa he was gonna "-_- up that fat *******".
So, maybe threats work on Santa, I mean he regularly gets imprisoned by a fat turkey that can be slain by rock/paper/scissors...
Better way to stop attacking NPC players - create dwarf. 20lvl stun can land even in 60+ players. After 5-10 hits but lands. You have time. Face of backing player and seeing his char standing and do nothing - priceless^^

i left two accounts running for 24 hours...between work,sleep, and the rifle range this morning...its been a long 24 hours just turning on monitor and looking at my inv. to see of that rat ba***rd Santa visited me at all...here are the results
on a LvL 1 Dorf with 0 pk's,0 adena, and in a Starter village attacking an NPC
~ 1 Stocking
on a LvL 56 Sorc with 14 Pk's, 1.2mil adena, and in ng gear attacking a NPC at the port spot to the wasteland
~ 7 Socks
the only significant difference i could come up with is the amount of ppl meeting the requirements for the even around you. on the sorc i got 5 over the course for the first 20 hours and then withing the last 5 some one had come and killed all the non tagged toons afk in that area and left my self and another person. i received 2 in the course of that 5 hours with just my self and the other player. when i pm'ed the other player and asked they said that they to noticed that they seemed to get visited more often in the last couple hours than the rest of the time they where out there.
so in conclusion....totally not sure if its relevant....it seems to me that if u can place ur butt in a location that is scarcely populated with ppl doing the afk thing...then u MAY have a better chance of getting socks.
o and ( obviously) i don't thins that the afk thing is cheating or any thing...its merely taking part in the event....i just don't like that ive heard a LOT of people complaining about war deaths or Pk's..as if they're surprised...you leave your self AFK in an non peace zone its bound to happen.
Therefore, I will be inside castle, attacking NPC's from now on (when I'm not leveling of course!).
I went way out were the map is still under development with no NPC Sitting on a rock with no one around not even a mob not doing a dam thing and I got 6 Stockings in 24 hours. :D
In total with this even I got 13 Stocking and I have noting 2 show for it but 2 Bracelets that I can only use around Christmas and 11 Trees. I like the Bracelets and I love the 4 hour weapons but when the dust clears Christmas time is over and the 4 hours are up what do you really have?

i used a +10 saints spear for some XP, with HW and light dance i did more damage with that then with my +3 150 attribute saints spear. although i belive the mobs are somewhat weak to holy since they are "demon"
I hope the US l2 people are completely ignoring the whiners.
This is my favorite event PERIOD since prelude.
Even if santa NEVER visits you, you still get the buff and a whopping pile of extra XP and SP you can get because of it.
I've been visited four times TOTAL so far. (on 6 toons)
I have had a ball with even the low +'d weapons I've gotten (+7 is the highest I have ever gotten) and the various buffs.
Since events are about FUN and not profiteering... how about we all play the right way and not cheat, not whine, and not be jerks during a holdiay season?

The best solution would be the following: a player must talk with Santa to get a dift when Santa appears.

I go red and port somewhere to work it off, and SANTA! =D

It's official, I hate Santa..in the past days not even a single visit, not even a fricking sock....and to top all that last night we were doing some raids 58-60+ and the miracle happened: he visited us!...and not only once but like four times, he came to one of the players, after a few min he came to the same player and then he chooses another one and to top it all last time he came he visited the same player. So four visits to the same two players.
For a fat jolly f@rt he moves very quickly, I managed to hit him only a few times and so did my golem....soon, very soon!
Anyway, I refuse to hit NPCs all day long while I'm at work it seems stupid and desperate...and I know I've been a bad man but come on not even a single sock :(

We got him in our raid group 4 or 5 different times. Funny part is it was while we were either messing around waiting for people or buffing up more than when we were actually fighting.
I've been playing and letting chars in the wild and I only got 1 (one) gift. Meanwhile some players get several socks per day.
It's very frustrating.:(

Well.. on Saturday.. in 1 hour time.. I got 2 socks on same toon.. on same location.. and another sock on SE that was in Party. ;)
If you want to be sure that when santa shows off you will get a present... don't be in party, just grind solo as you would normally do. Otherwhise it will be frustating to see him and see another one gets the reward ^^
I got four socks in 20 minutes the other day. I wasn't doing much, was afk getting a drink and checking emails and stuff after like 3 hours of grinding. Just came back and bam! Had four more socks :P

You have fun because you get items. You would only have buffs you would complain like everyone else, so don't be rude.
Methinks someone needs try some harder mobs given your "buffed to the teeth" status. If you cannot make more XP, you need to reevaluate your playstyle. Note that the protection you gain in PvP also guarantees more and better XP time as well.
I have fun because I just play and enjoy instead of whining.

First of all accepting everything because "complaining = whining" is the most irrespectful. If you respect the hard work done, you don't say "I accept anything anyway".
Secondly, if you don't whine and don't complain, why are you posting on this thread? I tell you : to complain about those who see flaws in the event conception.
Finally, as a healer, the buff is irrelevant. As a warlord it's cool but it's my sub and I don't care about the difference of xp on it or I level it under vitality 4. Which makes a real difference.
As a difference, I got a sock and received a +8 Arcana Mace. I soloed with it at Bot Springs and took lots of xp and that's a big difference. So instead of attacking people who are left over, understand why they are frustrated to see friends getting dozens of socks while they get nothing.

.....and still nothing. i've tried sitting outside of town(whole night till morning). i've tried hitting NPCs(also same as above). i've done some solos, some duos and still he's a no show. i'm starting to hang that hope back on it's hook and cast away. :(
personally i love this event. more health than i know what to do with on my orc. healers are going crazy trying to take me to full hp. faster attacks stronger attacks for one whole hour. and while everyone is stuck out hitting some npc my lvling spots are clear of all the bots or pushy people. and too boot santa visits me once every great while and gives me an awesome weapon to use for 4 hours. when was the last time someone lent you a ++ weapon for a few to lvl with... ummmm NEVER!!! hell i wouldnt mind this being a permenant part of the game or change with the seasons.
peter rabit giving me a agathon and a weapon for 4 hours. or a lil lepricon... cupid... ten times better than any mouse event or pig event... though i enjoy shooting the pigs..
and whats best is the event buffs stack. god knows its so when people do get the weapon it compensates for any SA that is lacking from the weapon. but beyond the massive wife beaters at hardins port or cruma tower port. poor women getting beaten. thankfully people go red on them and then santa visits the red. which i find funny.
so let them stay hitting a gate keeper its outta my lvling area. just one question... if enough people hit a npc... will it eventually die? i mean do they have hit points or is that a stupid question.. cause i've killed guards to a town before... so i would imagine a gk is same... idk just a random though
Well, of course, it has become clear that you don't actually need to be in combat to have Santa visit them.... even tho it is kinda fun, I guess, to leave yourself hitting an NPC in a combat zone while you are not playing.... haha.
Last night, Santa visited my group in HB about 6 times. 4 times it was me that received the gift. 1 time each for 2 other party members. This is the famous L2 Random Generator. Like Random drops are totally perplexing when 3 times in a row the same person gets a drop.
And Santa shows up at the most particularly funny times... like in the middle of intense pvp at the port... or in the middle of a huge pull of 18 mil mobs... or while we are sitting resting and someone in a duel gets it :D It is pretty hilarious
And I agree with Aeowen: When this event is over we are gonna be very sad puppies to not have our uber buffs (13k+ HP for a healer and 204 run speed rocks!!!) anymore. We will mourn the end of our +16 4-hour Saint Spears and Arcana Maces.
I personally applaud whomever was brilliant enough to put this event together. Santa is adorable... the Rudolf agathion is adorable (plays little bells when you run and hums Jingle Bells) The gifts are really a treat. Bravo.
I personally applaud whomever was brilliant enough to put this event together. Santa is adorable... the Rudolf agathion is adorable (plays little bells when you run and hums Jingle Bells) The gifts are really a treat. Bravo.
I don't think I have ever seen anything cuter in all of l2. Including the bunny event transformation >< (that was really cute too though)
If you zoom in really close and look at him, he WAGS HIS TAIL all content-like and sits in his little sled! And hums jinlge bells. x_X TOO CUTE.
Yeah, the Rudolph is REALLY cute. Too bad we can only wear it once a year :( It would have been more fun to be able to use it whenever.
Although the sounds it makes become annoying after a while. But it is the cutest thing ever!
All in all, I'm loving the event. For the first time, something INTERESTING and new. I wish the Santa visits weren't so random, so everyone could fully enjoy it. But you know, nothing's perfect and I'm glad they though of something DIFFERENT. Saving Santa is really fun too, to be honest!
The only complaints I'd have is about the randomness of Santa's visits, that's all. It doesn't allow everyone to fully experience the event as they should. The rest? Best event I've had so far.
Ya, Rudolf turns his lil head and makes a sound, very approvingly!! and the sound isn't annoying to me. In fact, I run around in a square around the Oly Manager just to hear the lil bells and the Jingle Bells hum!

I've been playing >5hrs / day... leveled a bounty from 44 to 51, a berserker from 42 to 46, a tyrant from 42 to 47 and a warsmith from 41 to 46 and left a char overnight outside town past 4 nites.... and you know? ...never met our fatty friend.... i don't like this kind of just-luck based events... i prefer those when with more effort you get your prize...
Oh yeah.. the buff is great... so i don't complain at all...-
u know more people could experience it if we truely fall in the spirit. i was really sad when my friend of many years told me santa hadnt visited him... i had 2 visits that day already. so REDBOAN! Merry christmas mate and i gave him one of my stockings. yeah i would love to have had another chance at the agathon. but its the season of giving. maybe put this to the pay it forward movement. i remember there was some player event on the old forums board in that fashion.
so if you have 5 socks and u know someone down and sad cause santa hasnt visited. give some xmas spirit and give the gift of love THE SANTA STOCKING!

I've deleted 2 agations already lol. I only use the stockings on my SK sub, the buff scrolls give her amazing stats lol. Soloing the stun mob room in necro of devotion atm.
I guess soloing is a loose term for me tho, she has 76 DC buffs, 78 PP buffs (incl. PoF), dwarf buffs and the holiday light/heavy armor fighter scrolls. But she is the only one hitting mobs :D
firefly was a great show. i still get excited when i see any of the cast playing in another movie or tv show. i cant even pick a favorate episode or char. though my necromancer is Jayne Cobb. and at one point my ex (but my gf at the time) made a bishop named Kaylee. though i've seen a buffer running around phoenix by the name SheppardBook. :P yours kicks much rump as well!
Well I don't have all day to play so I got my toons smacking those defenseless NPCs. So far no Santa. Just hit ctrl and double click the target npc and you're all set. Just make sure you don't wail away at a guard. Thanks for this thread.

Got a visit last night just as I was getting ready to quit. Nice graphics on Santa. I wish he would also restore vitality to full. Maybe something to add for future events.
The other night was the first time I got a good look at Santa handing out his present... and I observed something sooooo cute and charming, I just have to share it:
Do you know that before Santa whooshes himself away, that he puts a finger on the side of his nose???? lol. Just like in "The Night Before Christmas."
Once again... kudos to the creators of this event.
