If you have a buffer you will be able to level the WC fine by using SoulCRY. If not you will run into some difficulty with mana. You will either burn it up using steal essence to refill your hp, or you will burn it up on SoulCRY and buffs. Either way, I have found the WC to be much more of a party character.
You may do ok for awhile if you get lucky in areas that drop herbs, but you will spend a lot of time on your butt regening mp.
If you have a second account with a buffer, (SE, EE, or PP) to help with the buffs, you will be in much better shape and can grind just fine. I would recommend EE as a buffer for grinding your WC because you can get resist shock, resist poison, agility buffs you dont have on the WC as well as recharge.
wc doesn't have soul guard. second time today i said that....
i took my WC out to solo a bit when she was about 74ish and she done just fine, she had BW heavy and a +0 som/acu so the fact that i could pull it off with such crap gear on a toon which is nothing more than a buff bot to me makes me think it could be ok..... or at least better than soloing a dorf
get yourself a BTB staff and wear heavy and when you hunt every 1 or 2 minuets throw up a different buff so that you don't need to blow all your mp in 5 seconds and spend the next 10 mins regening and you will be fine
EDIT: +str might be a good idea too
my WC is +dex -str which makes for pretty slow kills ><
Level a wolf up to level 40 and give it to your WC sub. I subbed a WC not long ago and that's what I did. A WC/Great Wolf duo is great once you get your wolf up to lvl 55.
Yes, get a wolf, you won't regret it! At 70 my wc can solo a room in martyrs together with his 70 wolf. The only problem is that the wolf does more dmg/sec than the wc, so it constantly catches aggro :D
Sounds like a great idea on the wolf. Is a wolf better than a hatchling / strider?
Yes, a strider doesn't even come close to the same dmg output. Bear in mind though that you need wolf equipment and it is seriously expensive, somewhere around 150m+ for top armor, weapon and jewels. But a wolf is still well worth it if you're willing to put serious effort into leveling it.
Here is my lvl 71 wolf with top equipment and lvl 70 wc buffs:
WOW! That is a LOAD of PAtk! I have a wolf, but he's only lvl 25... I'm going to start passing him around between my characters like a $5 ****** at a batchelor party. He's going with everyone now.
Gear for a Great Wolf is 165M, though, so I decided it was not worth it. I was gonna get one for my OL, Lol. NO thanks to that.
It's faster to just level buffers with another toon 2-4 levels under them, that way they will get majority XP and party bonus to compensate for the XP split. It levels faster than with a Great Wolf, and if you pick the appropriate class (like Tyrant, Nuker) the kills go faster and you level up factorably faster.
Don't need top gear for a DD, but with a WC/OL and some other supports you will need it for the Great Wolf.
The Monetary and Time investment for leveling and maintaining a wolf is not kosher for me, at the moment. That's not mentioning that most people level them up to 55 and stop to sell them at outrageous prices considering how fast and easy it is to get them to that level (prolly take you < 2 weeks if you have good playtimes and especially if you can 2 box and duo raids up to 40, which takes a couple/few days).
The wolf in that Screenshot has lower stats than a level 72 Corrupted Man.
and 300 more patk + higher other stats than my self buffed lvl 74 Golem (max lvl)
I was in a rift party and one of them had a 72 wolf. We got the RB room and I + golem did 500 dmg without crits and around 1.5k with crits.
The wolf did 800+ dmg non crits and almost 2k on crits.
That is with lvl 76 WC buffs + dances.
And I have also noticed that my Golem does alot less dmg now than what it did before. Now I can actually keep agro away from it since I do roughly the same damage even though it has 1k more patk and than me.
That's fine, but you should learn to read since I never said not to solo, or told anyone to box a dd to level.
I simply stated a faster way to level. Great Wolf < Boxed DD (e.g. Tyrant)/Archer with a WC.
Didn't say anything about several accounts, I said a 2 box duo :P
Chll out.
I don't know many people that solo in this game.
See you at 76 when the WC with a boxed DD is CoVing his DD box Soloing Varka/Ketra or some other place.
Man, who needs to chill out? I meant no offense lol.
I was just confused by your post and still is. When I hear "box" I think one player with several accounts. Obviously you mean something else, so what is a "2 box duo", compared to a normal duo?

A 2 box duo is the opposite of a Nuker who boxes an SE to level. It's an SE main that boxes a Nuker to level more efficiently.
A support with a boxed DD, as opposed to a DD with a boxed buffer.
Pay for the account for a few months, and deactivate it when you WC is at whatever level is good for *you*. It works well, I know a few main SEs, WCs, or OLs that did that.

Stop comparing your borderline unbuffed Golem to a buffed Great Wolf, and no, a Great Wolf will only outdamage a Golem by 300 dmg a hit on average if the P.Atk difference is a bit more significant. I mean, you will clearly have over 1.9k P.Atk on that Golem with same level of Greater Might... < 200 P.Atk difference should not give a Great Wolf a consistent 300 dmg/hit advantage.
There are other factors at play. Next time check the buffs on your summon, and see if it has Holy Weapon for the Undead MOBs, when the Great Wolf does.
IRT damage done, I haven't really noticed a drop in damage output on my Cursed Man. But since you mentioned it, I will go check in some tried and true areas and see what happens. It can be a bug...
but you are sooo wrong its not even funny
WC dmg output with soulcry is much higher than WS dmg output with same condition (same buffs, armors any Agr weapon on WS, used soulsep on WC)
so if its so obvious for you and its so far from truth, it gives us pretty good idea how seriously we should take your posts

A WS does not have to use Blunt Weapons, and why would a 76 Warsmith use an A Grade weapon? They are Warsmiths, if they cannot afford an S weapon they need to think a little.
A 76 WS with a +3 Basalt Battlehammer has more P.Atk than a 76 WC with a +3 Soul Separator or Angel Slayer. The Atk Speed difference is not that huge, and a Dwarf can use other weapons if it so chooses. The Crit Rate difference is factorable, but a Dwarf will still be able to keep up and even surpass a WC if it has attribute on its weapon due to a better hit ratio.
i shoulda taken out those big white areas but im not used to img editing ><
question: why blot out then pets name? i only did it cause im sure the poster mustve had a good reason, and id like to know waht that is. ty
True, also Warsmiths are not true hybrids, so their pets suck. They are there only for the sake of convenience, and until a recent updates their servitors and support for it was on the level of Dark Avengers.
A 74 [Learn level, 76 Level] Cursed man is facrotably better than a Great Wolf with the same buffs, and high level Summoner servitors should have comparable stats (maybe different in Crit Rate, not sure).

did I say blunt...quote me where i said blunt
wow, you are slow...ok, change the Agr weapon to Sgr weapon and the diff is still the same, WC with soulcry will outdmg WS by a lot

Lol "a lot".
But we're now getting into that "hard to calculate range". I don't want to break the EULA to prove you wrong. So i'll just leave it at that :)
Let's not have another Prophet thread.
In the end, my servitor is better than a great wolf, and that's what lifts or lowers my /care factor :)
If the WS wants a Great Wolf, it's free to level one up :P

76 WS with +3 BB has less patk than 76 WC with +3 AS with soulcry. Attack speed diff is 20%(10% if we dont count SAs) thats quite a lot, nvm crit rate etc. Even if WS will use AS or FB or w/e weapon. WC with soulcry will always have more dmg output than WS. No, dwarf will never surpass or keep up with WC with soulcry. Serisouly either do your "parser" or just use simple math. 1+1 = 2, 1+2 = 3, 3>2...all you need, you act like very smart person who knows a lot about L2, but "dwarf obviously do more dmg than wc, just because its obvious" shows how much you know about L2.

Ding on Sub :)
EDIT: I was a bit busy. I think the WC/Wolf in Question was in the 72 range, and the Warsmith is level 76, so that War Cryer most likely wasn't S Grade and therefore couldn't use an S Grade weapon. With that grade disparity, he shouldn't be getting outDPS'd by a "lowbie" War Cryer because his weapon should be of superior quality (not to mention other factors like attribute, etc.).
Yes, 1+1 = 2, but If I say 1+1 don't come back and say 1+3=4 as a response. I am going off the informationt that was given in the post. Most people I know keep their wolves at or near their level when they are leveling up, for obvious reasons.
I'm a bit rushed and wanna respond to his post, so that is probably not as concise as I'd like it to be. But that doesn't matter :P

I was in the same **** party as the WC with the wolf in the rift, we had the same **** buffs/dances (I had my golem buffs that stacks with haste and btb for even more dps) when the WC told me the damage hes pet made.
If you still think you are an expert in this then lvl a **** WS to lvl 72 to get the last lvl on the golem and then lvl a **** wolf to 72-73 and see the difference.
And again since CT2.2 it feels like my golem does less damage than before.
Please don't talk about things you don't have a clue on

Let's see...
1900 P.Atk (Give your Golem Greater Might) = Golem hits for 3xx
2200 P.Atk = Wolf hits for 5xx
Seriously... 300 P.Atk = 1 more dmg per p.atk per hit disparity? I will run the numbers later, but... That seems a bit high to me. I don't remember gaining that much more damage per hit [consistently] on my OL when I toggle on Soul Guard, and it's more than 300 P.Atk. There would have to be a more significant difference in P.Atk for the difference to be that high, or... other factors at play.
Like his buff having something like Holy Weapon or Zerk, and yours not. Or you forgetting to turn on Beast Soulshots when you resummon. Or him not running all buffs, or something, when you resummon.
I have 3 servitors at my disposal, with different P.Atk levels, and from my experience 300 P.Atk will not lead to 300 dmg difference on regular hits.
I will do screenshots and stuff in a few minutes, if I can to show you what I mean.

you all seem to forget that most summons (apart from O.P necros :P) have blunt stats but wolves has sword stats and since in L2 crit is everything even if the wolf had 500 less pattack it would still outdamage the golem
This is only for a rough idea, but the average damage on regular hits between both of my servitors isn't that great despite the Cursed Man having over 200 P.Atk advantage... On those two mobs the Corrupted actually did better, but that probably had something to do with the two mobs not having the same stats even though they were the same type.
Cursed Man and Great Wolf is the same Weapon Type, so they are directly comparable.
I only had Greater Might 2 for this thing. Both Servitors had same buffs (only Prophet Buffs).
So for a consistent +300 dmg over you servitor, the Wolf would need a more significant P.Atk advantage. Not every swing hits for the same damage, so just because he got a few 500+ hits doesn't mean that all of his swings were that much higher than your servitor, or that your servitor's damage was consistently that low. That is why I think parsing sustained DPS and not just deriving things from formulas is much better and also much more accurate gauge to go off of :)
EDIT: NaNa is correct, though. I wasn't sure that the Wolf had same Crit Rate as a Cursed Man until I logged in and buffed Focus. I notice they both buff up to 114. So yea, the Wolf will pwn probably every servitor/pet except a Cursed Man (due to same crit but higher P.Atk). Servitors with full buffs (CoV, Hunter, Focus, etc.) get a lot of crit strings, and their crit dmg is pretty good on MOBs.
Since NCSoft revamped skill OE for servitors, it's easy to give them stat boosts since each Enchant increases their stats. I only have +1 servitors atm, though. Doing a lot of other skills first, just wanted the levels on them. You should definitely +1 your Mechanical Golem, if not only for the levels/hit rate if you use it in PvE a lot.
So yea, I'll have to give this to Nya. With that crit difference that Wolf is huge. A WC/OL with a good weapon and Soul Cry up will outDPS you consistently, unless you have significant gear advantage over them (epics, 150 weapon when they don't, etc.). A bishop or EE with an OOP 58 PP/SE can probably solo IT with a buffed Great Wolf of appropriate level O.o
as you can see the Great Wolf is only lvl 60 while my Golem is 74, yet it manages to keep up with my Golem. They where both unbuffed as you can see and I did not use shots.
Do you still beleave that a Golem does more damage than a lvl 72 Great Wolf?

The great wolf has top gear though. That's like putting top A gear on a B Grade character that doesn't get a grade penalty, and noting that it keeps up (or giving it an insanely OE'd B Grade Wweapon). They should have graded the Great Wolf gear, to stop people from stacking it with top gear from minimal level (55). A level 60 great wolf with mid-level gear would probably not outdps your summon, because it's hardly keeping up in that screenshot... Certainly not on the mobs you would be leveling on.
If NCSoft would grade the Great Wolf/Fenrir Gear (or restrict the two top level gears to Fenrirs), that would balance things out a bit... They also need to bring the attack speed down to 278 and give it the same Soulshot consumption as same-level the non-summoner Servitors.
I just brought myself a level 55 Great Wolf, for my buffers :P
The Speed, Acuracy, and Evasion on them is pretty bad, though... Comparatively speaking, but that's prolly cause that one is low level and without buffs :P The level 78 GW upthread looks better.
Mechanical Golem is fairly weak, though. I think it's below DA summons in stats.
P.S. If you don't have top gears on that wolf, lemme know what kinda gear u have and how much it cost. I'm trying to be as cheap as possible for this thing... I'm far from rich, Lol.

I'm not using my wolf to exp on my main because it misses alot on the mobs that's why I picked a NPC to hit on just to get the general idea of the dmg of the golem and the 14 lvl lower great wolf.
I agree that they should grade the equipment on the great wolf.
Yes the Panther has better stats and in CT2.3 it will get 4 skills (golem has 1 ranged skill that does roughly the same as 1 normal hit from the golem).
It's top equipment (weapon/armor/jewel), but as you can see it's worth it.
To the moderators:
Sorry for all the images, but it's the best way to explain things.
I just put the lowest weapon and second lowest armor on my 55 Great Wolf (the one I just got last night).
LOL. They need to be toned down a little.
The skill it has is funny too. Up to 1.8k damage, and overhits.
I wonder what it would perform like if it had top gears. Prolly 3 hit white 1x HP mobs... It's already killing some of them with 4 hits only, non crits.
Good HP for its level, too. Skimpy on the MP, though.
