Favorite nuker class

General Discussion Started Last reply 62 posts
I saw this in another boards and saw the discussion quite interesting so I'm going to try a few here in the ol L2 boards so...

Vote your favorite nuker and feel free to discuss why. :)
Sorcerrer, it was my first l2 character. I still have sentimental feelings for Talking Island :) At that time sorcers did not had that beutifull promi. I remember how I was disapointed that SPS's and SPH's had new textures after 2nd class change and since than I have strong hate for SH/SPS classes :P
Nukers are nice as they kill things very very fast (pve in 1x areas is bliss) but even the sharpest of mana managements are very weak in this game unlike other games that have nukers. TBH all nukers are heavily dependant on rechargers if they want to keep going non-stop. And B2M/herbs included, mana management still sucks, BIG TIME.

That's my only problem with nukers, really.

That beeing said, my favorite is Sorcerer and SPS, with accent set on Sorcerer for more balanced dmg/speed, also my first character in L2 that i played like crazy back in the early days. (no acumen pots in shops then.. you'd have to have a real pp/bishop to have some sort of acumen)
Also no SA... ah, those were the slow casting blissful days, haha.

Oh, and yeah, promi had the plain simple animation of Blaze.. I admit I was disappointed then when I saw that :(.
Yea I love how prominence looks and the aoe skill looks nice too
Rain of Fire looks awesome but was destroyed. Can't aoe with it unless all mobs are stacked on top of each other, they destroyed the range somehow, and they'll probably not change it anytime soon.
And funny how it is called rain of fire and fire comes from below... Heh, I guess someone either was a bad designer or a bad case of miss translation?
sps ftw, if you know how to play ur class u can beat any other mage. and i dont wanna hear any bs talk from u 6x ******* cuz u dunno about 78+ pvp.
Spellhowler.
Yep, SH, by far the best.
Spellhowler is by far the best nuker class clan the game, and will be more so if the proposed changes to cooldowns come with gracia final.
It has the best utility, being able to dish out the best damage as both shadow or wind nuker when no other class can equally master 2 elements like that.
I'm biased... :D ;)
SH. Good mana management, insane matk at high levels, the skill cooldown changes in gracia final will mean SH loses its biggest weakness (lower casting speed) compared to other nukers,.
Exactly what Varaya said, plus wind is my favourite element. SH rock! Get that wannabe nuker off the options! :p
Spellhowler. Mana management and damage are the primary reasons.

Also, somewhere down that positives list is the fact that DE's look good in just about every robe set they wear. Human nukers, whether male or female, look ill-attired and not comfortable in their own skin.
SH>all it seems
Spellhowler :D
I love my Necro and wouldn't trade her for anything in the world, but...

Ya know... to each their own!

I think you might mean that DEs just LOOK GOOD.
Spellhowler of course.

And mostly because of the looks. Then, the reasons listed above also count; just not as much ^^
I think you might mean that DEs just LOOK GOOD.

Yes, that, too. :D
Storm Screamer For Ever. but arcana robe without casting bonus wtf? :(
I would like lineage to have more robe sets. not 10 million ppls dress 1 robe all . it is so boring have 1 set for all mages. So NcSoft and Developers please Design many many many many many many many many many many many many rob setssssss
Sorcerer because I am a... human!

I just like to play with Fire so Sorcerer was the class I preferred.
Well still love my MM

Only way for other nukers to compete with a SpS was to nerf it..

Bye bye ..Sleep
Bye bye ..Aura Flare
Bye Bye ..Cancel .. well that not totally screwed up .. only nearly

and in Gracia Final ... Bye bye reuse time

So maybe in Gracia ... finally some other nuker gets its glory .... future will tell
sps ftw, if you know how to play ur class u can beat any other mage. and i dont wanna hear any bs talk from u 6x ******* cuz u dunno about 78+ pvp.

LOL!

Stop.

I still voted SPS, though. They are the best balanced/designed mage in the game.

They are not the warriors that you profess they are, though. They definitely won't be next update, unless they always have an SWS and ES with them.
SH was my First Main So I will have to go with SH.
I am at a point where I am going to start my first subclass. I am going to go SH. I don't intend on using it for PvP, just want to PVE with it to get to 75 and nobless. SH seemed like it would be easiest to level to 75. Am I wrong?
SH is actually best for both at the moment, as you can see from the poll. Most people who argue about classes don't argue about which is better in pve, it's usually the pvp part.
Mystic Muse + Eva Saint (+8 Clarity - Decrease Magic MP Consumption), (Recharge +8 Cost), (Mana Regeneration +8 Both), Mana Gain + Invocation

Energy Won't be a problem.
Actually I have all of that, except some of those are +9, and I have an extra SE with +3 recharge...I still run out of mana after 1-2 buff rounds.
SH wins easy this one.
hi

I have started the game pretty recently (2 days ago :D) and after spending 3 days of reading boards, guides and random webs about L2, after allot of hesitation went with SH (in long-run perspective of course, i am only level 15 now) and i am VERY glad to see i didnt go wrong. *looks at the poll*

i am figuring this is the best place to ask a question the only thing i cannot find in any guide is:

1- how demanded are SH in PvE leveling wise? i know they are demanded are for dungeon/instences since they have a big power damage potential, but since there is so many levels i imagine most of thegame time will be leveling up the character, so i am simply worried about how easy it is to find a leveling team for a HS class.

2- I have alraedy made up my mind to be a "nuker" so should i be buying the healing spells anyways, as long as those are availble? from what i experienced in Guild Wars it was always nice when the Damage house of the team (who are also the squishis) had a few heals to make the support class job easier once in a while.

Thank you in advance for reply, i look forward to be playing in higher levels with you all :)

Ok, I'll tell you this now. As a nuker, you will be soloing your entire life. Nobody wants you for a group, except maybe a duo with a recharger.

If you do get to go to a high level dungeon or instance, you are there as a warm body, and contribute almost nothing to the party. In this game, nukers don't do THAT much more DPS than some of the better fighter and archer classes. And they run out of mana in a couple minutes, with no easy way to regen. This is true for all nukers, though SH/Necro does have the best mana management out of all of them. Sadly in terms of PvE, anything a group of nukers can do, a melee or archer group can do better, for longer. Now PvP is another story, but I won't get into that.

As far as your heals go... battle heal is helpful up until around level 52 or so, then it's fairly useless.
aww no way!

since PvP is impossible with no PvE before that (leveling) that pretty much means im back to square 1 :(

would SH work as a sub class as well or almosta s well as main class? >.<

i was really looking forward to play as a nuker, in all previous games they are pretty valuable in Pve...
Oh, you can still level fine. If you box an SE, you will level almost as well as everyone else, and you don't have to rely on a group for your leveling. I'm just saying, you won't get groups either. Doing one as a sub is fine.. but you still have to level it up.

Leveling nukers isn't hard at all, but if you are looking forward XPing with other players and friends, you should find a new toon now.
Exactly what Varaya said, plus wind is my favourite element. SH rock! Get that wannabe nuker off the options! :p

+1 is all the SH votes WOOT..

Someone once mentioned in a thread, about fire putting out water & vic versa.. I mentioned that WIND RULES, because nothing can put it out!

(Have you ever been hit by a hurricane or tornado?) OUCH!!! Lol ;)

hmm thank you for heads up lol

my boyfriend is playing the human going to become Treasure hunter... i will have to learn some more about the XP distribution in the party then xD

i am very new to the game, so allot is unclear still.

thank you

For the first 70 or so levels, you're not going to want a group as an SH. They slow you down. :D
Meh.

The important is to play what you feel like playing. What makes you happy and want to log on to see those nice numbers going up.

I'm very happy with my Necro, I think she rocks, and I wouldn't trade her for anything else. Maybe one day I can even sub Spellhowler (Thinking either that or TH), but I am enjoying my class for the first time in 3 years.

That's the important thing. And my Necro is no wannabe nuker, thank you very much. She rocks cause I think she rocks and most Necros that ENJOY being Necros will say the same.

In the end, that's what really matters.
Some of us however (like myself) consider the thing we like to play, to be anything, as long as it is with others. I would trade my SpS right now for anything that would be useful to a group. It's not fun soloing while everyone else is in HB or doing an epic raid, ect, and sadly most nukers have to deal with that.
Well, then I'm glad to be in a clan where I'm useful no matter what they do.

Then again, we're not a PvP-hungry clan. We are a clan that like to be among friends.

Problem is? When it comes to the top dogs, it's much more of "How will that help MYSELF", than "How can we work together and have fun". Sad, really.
Not to sound like a jerk, but you don't quite understand what it's like at higher levels. Hunting in a group is always fun, and when you bring a mage... maybe your XP goes down a little, but no big deal. I'm talking in places like HB and in raids, when you bring mages, you don't kill the mobs, you just die. It's not that they aren't as good, it's that they are literally useless and are hurting your party by not being another class. I would say a good portion of the casters that hunt in the high level areas in a party are boxing a useful class, and have their mage on AF leeching. The ones that go to epic raids (for the most part) pvp for the boss, then let their useful classes port in to kill it... that's how it is, sadly. My clan is very much into team work and likes to help everyone. Many of our mages get rewarded too for things like farming HB... but those mages themselves don't go, just because they really can't.
I didn't mean to say your clan wasn't helpful to their clannies. I was talking in general, and of my experience with top clans (at least where I've played). And you're right, I don't understand what it's like at higher levels (yet), and perhaps I won't even understand it since I am unlikely to get involved with those things. Simply because it doesn't really matter that much to me.

I've literally tried EVERY class in the game (just haven't played a Destroyer, Elven Tank and TH), and for the first time I enjoy my class. Rerolling something "else" would only make me quit, because I'd get bored, annoyed, and be back to rerolling, rinse and repeat.

play whatever you think will be fun. I have a lvl 77 storm screamer & having a good time.
My favorite is still sps, best ingame imo is sh atm. SPS because its pretty destructive and fun to play, yes even with all the support it needs over the other classes. Never cared for sorcs, even higher lv Archmages are kinda bland with spell selections and bored me out. And soultakers are just summoners with some nice nukes and debuffs :P I never considered them a true mage class.
Spellhowlers...
Talking about a class beginning in near zero and now is a all home favorite.

In the beggining, being a Spellhowler was a bit difficult. No sleep, no acumen sets, no acumen pots and no bsps. We could out-damage any other mage on single hits but our dps was... a bit low. PVP wise... archers stuned us easily (sometimes they still do!) and Spellsingers and Sorceres laughed to how they killed us even before we could launch that hight dmg, slow hurricane using the fabled auraflare (owerpowered before the nerf). And dont make me talk about how Palis and Da's rejoiced chaining stuning us to prevent us to launching a single spell. Daggers... dont make talk about them I still have traumas of that time...

Then time began to change, acumen (Sets and Weapons) and sleep got into our lifes. Ohh the days, chain sleeping those who laughed before. But Sps and Sorcs still reigned supreme, groups loved them for their superior crowd control (sleep cloud), but we had mana management (BtM), where they seated on their butts, we just nuked for hours to no end (we still do).

Now enter the Tatoos, that was the most loved addition for all hardcore Spellhowlers, we could at last cast nearly as fast as an elf without tats and still hit as hard. Sleep was gone but we still could come out top (if you knew how to play that is).

Now here we are, element resistance and weakness meaned we could double our dmg output with the proper gear, and for the feature if that change comes out... the last weakness will be removed. Cast time! Ill rejoice when that day comes and if the changes are as some foretell.
i thought MM is best nuker? many votes for SH dont mean they are best at pvp right?
i thought MM is best nuker? many votes for SH dont mean they are best at pvp right?

Best nuker varies from person to person.

MM requires someone to recharge them, then don't have the best man mangement & has to sit alot. I also heard they are harder to level up. Damage wise, they are awesome at higher levels :)
(Don't hold me to that, it's just what I've heard from other MM classes)

SH is an easier class to play all around. Good mana management. Slow casting, but that can be fixed with acumen weapon, acumen pots/scrolls & tattoo's. (if you don't have 2-boxed buffer) SH also does awesome damage.

I'm an SH. Of course I will say my class is the best, because to me, they are :D
Well, there's another thing too, next update will bring the change that says that castspeed will no longer affect skill reuse time.

So until now, the Spellsingers had an advantage over the other nuker types simply due to a faster DPS. They could spam their nukes and make up for their lower matk. Come Gracia Final, that won't be possible anymore, so I do believe that the Spellhowlers will have a slight advantage due to their high matk.

But then again, I am not 100% sure on how the change will affect gameplay though, so we will have to see.

Ya I don't mention that, only because it hasn't happen & right now it's only a rumour till it actually does happen!

So, as of right now! SPS has the better casting speed. Which allows them to give off more nukes but, SH has high matk.

MM vs SS = I believe MM has better casting & high DPS, SS has slug & Vortex, hard hitting spells.
(I haven't reached SS yet - I SUCK) lol
So, you would have to hear from a SS & MM about who's better!
Well, the change will happen. I mean, it's already active in Korea, the castspeed will NOT affect skill reuse. But what I mean by not being sure how it'll work game-wise is because the skill reuse time will also be decreased.

Problem is, we're not sure how much it'll be decreased so...

Sure there was no sleep back in C1? Anyway if you circled hurri and ds you still had good chances against sps/sorcs, and archers were just lol back in the days. Cstspd didnt rly matter back then neither (I lvled pretty fast in demon + mp-up ghoul staff)
i just hope sps should have superior casting speed then other nukers because that's what they do since they have low matk. I hope it not so wacked out.

If you had a full Demon Set back in C1, you were the rarest of rare.
Sorc's are average nukers with a few debuffs like slow and decay and emphasis on short range nuking abit

SPS's are very fast casters who slow and keep full distance from the enemy while throwing off really fast nukes

SH's are real kiters, hit hard with the longest cast and reuse. with vamp claw for those situations, + they have alot of nukes to alternate with to cast a barrage.

Necro's are versitile, has something for many situations

SH is the best for PvP at the moment, and here is why. First of all, empowering echo... amazing. It's almost like having arcane power on 24/7, it's VERY good.

Second of all, resists. There are a LOT more people that put resists against SpS/Sorc than there are against SH. There are a few reasons for this. First of all, the stones are cheap. It's easy to get a 150 water/fire weapon, and thus it's also easy to get 60 fire/water resist pieces. Because of this, MOST people go fire/water on their weapons (even people who are not SpS/Sorc). And because of THAT MOST people go fire/water on their armor. Because of the way resists work against 150 weapons, it's basically a waste of time to make 1 60 piece. You generally have to do it in pairs of two at least. Why? Because making a 60 resist piece lowers a 150 weapon down to a 90 weapon. The difference in damage between 150 and 90 is very very little. Damage doesn't really start to go down until below 100.

For the people that are rich, this is the transitional period. Everyone has got the cheat stones on their weapons, and on their armor... now they realized... oops we need wind resist now, and they are just beginning to work on it, because the stones were so hard to get before (and are just now coming down in price). And the whole point of that is... no wind resist = SH's are king.

yes thats true too about the wind stone, harder to get and more expensive.

An SPS Can and will Always be able to kite better than anything.

For kiting SPS > Necro > Sorc > SH.

SH are the crap kiters. Slow is 600 range. Being able to Cancel when you run in to slow is a huge advantage; and, Necros can slow for more than a Spellhowler, with other effects, as well.

SPS > All cause being able to slow from 900 Range with 3 skills is not balanced :P

Yep, was the same for Necro. Now the Divine/Dark Stones are 20M (or less? haven't logged in.. in almost a week now) and many people are starting to put it on armor, or craft spare armor pieces to put Dark Resist on.

They are nerfing Inquisitor next update, so I think most will go Dark over Divine.

I know this pain very well _-_. WTB Gracia Final with +300 attribute...
Necro

hmmm what subs, I'm thinking
PS/SH/...WC?
Nuker for fast noble. Then Bishop/EE and BD last, IMO.

Or you can go Bishop/WC/EE if you're into support :P

Yea SH's can level fast... idk

I have a tank, nuker, zerker, tyrant, SE(thats my support for the while), I wanted to make a summoner...just to have one, to know what it really feels like and not being a 1/2 summoner, with my DA, necro, WS. then was thinking about another nuker...not sorc cause they are ew, not SPS cause I just don't like light elves, especially since there is only one gender type which isn't too fair. :( Maybe bishop... A pure healer class with a holy nuke alternative and anti undead skills. Can level with my kookaburra for easy buffs and MP.
