Umm, I don't like how support characters are made in this game, not well thought out in my opinion.
But a slight preference for Bishops/EE however without the uber buffs of WC/PP/SE we'd not fight as efficiently as we do...
As I said, support classes are overall badly designed. (imo..)
SE for life! Solid buffs + powerful spam-heals is good stuff. he future is also bright for them if the rumoured skills from Gracia Final (Scar of Shilen or whatever) turn out to be genuine.
Cardinal, its one of the best done healer classes in any game ever made.
Having played healers in every other MMORPG out there I always miss my cardinal, its practically the only healer class ever made where you arent restricted by huge cooldowns or year long casting times from saving someones life in pvp or a tough pve encoutner, theres nothing more annoying as a healer than watching someone die because of a large cooldown or because you know even your fastest heal wont make it in time and may as well start casting rez.
I also love the simple yet comprehensive approach to the skills we have, theres no gimmicky "situational" heals that youll use once in a blue moon when all the planets are aligned, everything we get is very useful and used often.
I saw this in another boards and saw the discussion quite interesting so I'm going to try a few here in the ol L2 boards so...
Vote your favorite Support and feel free to discuss why. :)
You may have well named this thread "Who's your Favorite Buffbox/bot?" True players of support classes have been cast out and primarily boxers/botters will answer here.

So I suppose my vote, as a live Shillien Elder, doesn't matter?

You are such a tool.
lol.
Let's not derail this thread though, I know how it's gonna end otherwise *G* (Since I can't seem to find the ignore button I'll just maually ignore everything you say, so don't bother.)
On topic: I always liked EEs best somehow. Fast, unique skills and very versatile. I really enjoyed playing my EE sub, unfortunately I had to wait till after the destiny event to do it else I would've subbed one way earlier :<
Cardinals are also really cool but somehow the class misses that certain knack that makes me like EEs, dunno why :p (solely talking about gameplay, not efficiency)
SE is the one I like the most. But again, I believe it depens on which class you are going to support. I wouldn't use a SE on a dagger... I rather use a PP for that, but a Mage... I will definetely choose a SE. On my particular case, using a Soulbreaker, SE works terrific.
Best support char by itself is SE. It has decent buffs, heals, recharges, and VR/emp making a fighter/mage's life easier. Doesn't excel at anything, but it can fill many roles.
Best healer is the bishop, no contest, it's just the best, higher level of heals, prayer. Balance life is a godlike healer skill. And as far as I know it's the only class with a invul that can be put on another player (not counting OL's Flames)
Best buffer is the WC. They just keep getting stronger all the time. The thing I dislike the most about them is no WW, but they'll get that too now, there is no reason to use anything else other than clarity/emp which it still can't give.
BD/SWS are only good when they have another buffer with them, a party rolling on dances alone is useless, but their buffs are unique and can't be replaced by other classes, so they're great additional support
EE is a better healer than SE, better recharger than SE (clarity), second best resser, but hasn't got much for buffs.
I am prophet, i cant vote for anything else. But there is problem, there are 2 views on support char...1) as boxed support where se/pp/wc shines 2) as activel played char where bp and proly ee/bd/sws/ol shines...

How many MMORPGs have you played? Which ones, if you don't mind me asking.
Don't really think a Bishop is as good a class (by design) as an EverQuest Cleric. I haven't played a Priest in WoW, so Maybe it's better than that.
Clerics in EverQuest has Balance Life (Divine Arbitration AA (http://lucy.allakhazam.com/spell.html?id=3254&source=Live) <-- Link), Complete Heal (10k Heal), Fast Casting Heals (Battle Heal), Huge Group Heal, Huge Group Hot, could wear Plate Armor, Undead Nukes/DoTs, Single Target Nukes for Everything, Lots of stuns, 96% Rez, Casting Speed buff, huge HP/AC buff, Resist buff, reverse damage shield, cures, etc.
Cardinal is a pretty lightweight class compared to Clerics in other games, tbh. NCSoft couldn't really do much with them, because they created more classes than they could handle anyways. SOE did the same thing in EQ2, that's why 1/3 the classes on the forums wondering why they are such garbage (similar to SEs and PPs here).
I voted for War Cryer. In next update you can pretty much delete all non-orc buffers.

Healer in Guildwars (Monk) is by far best class in all games :)
OL is good in groups. You shouldn't look at them as buffbots if you want to make a factorable comparison, IMO.
I agree, Overlords are outstanding in groups, particularly in nuker groups or in AoE groups. But in that capacity they are usually dd-ing or nuker-ish (debuffs etc). I have on occasion used my OL as tank in nuker groups to get ahold of a mob so the nukers could blast it.
They have great abilities, and are a lot of fun. That's why I play one on my main. But, as far as pure party support, I still think the WC are better.
SE, because I play one and from the first time I logged into L2 I've thought the Dark Elf females are lovely, and my little lady has some fun abilities to boot. She's by no means perfect though. ^^ I personally think all support classes are neat in their own way. :)
Beeing a buffbox, Skill / buffs wise I would say WC.
When it comes to playing active, A SE would be my first choice.
Solid buffs, Versatile as beeing a semi healer, buffer and with the inquisitor beeing a nuker.
Warcryer gets my vote. I started one just to have a buffer and was amazed at how good the class could be. They need a instant Heal Spell and Wind Walk to make them complete.

Wind walk coming next update.
And then give them a heal and no one will make anything else. Whee. Way to kill all the other classes...
Although a DC myself, my vote goes to SE. Good buffset for both physical and magical classes, good healing skills that suffice for many exp spots, recharge (very important imo), mana management (invocation), crowd control (dryad root) and descent debuffs (specially if NC fixes the Block skills).
I believe SE has been turned in a multi role class doing many things very good. For that reason they get my vote.
I vote for Shillien Elder. Good buffs for both fighters/nukers, good heals like the group heal, root and wind shackle. Not to mention their highest INT wich makes their root land pretty well. SE's are like a buffer and healer in the same char, that's why I like them :).

Lol I didnt see ur post, it's almost like mine loooooooool :D.
GW seems better than it already is, because of the free subclass that you get and the way you are able to mix and match two classes seemlessly.
Without that, none of its classes are anything to write home about.
The game is entirely different so the subclass stuff is completely beside the point. You obviously don't play the game at all judging by your comments about the way mixing classes work. The point is, the way monks function means that they are empowered to deal with whatever offense the game threw at them. You just had to be a good monk to do it.
'Mp' is no comparison to 'energy', doesn't even come close. Good monks could keep a team up 'permanently'. You just needed intelligent offense to break them. Not mindless training until they went down or run out of mp, or get lucky with a stupidly over-powered skill crit that hits for twice the max hp of the target. L2 in comparison is basic at best...

I'm Trensharo Soulgrasp in Guild Wars, a Ne/Meser. I don't login much, though. I already "beat" all the expansions :)
Good support classes in any game can keep a team up indefinitely, that is nothing special. That is the way any MMO should be balanced. So I hope...
Everyone knows L2 is basic at best. I illustrated that in the comparison of Cardinal to EQ Clerics (which is twice older than this game).

There are lot of Mo pvp/pve builds with Mo skills only, same with other classes. Anyway I dont see why the ability to mix 2 classes is bad thing as you say. Its pretty cool that even with all the class combinations the game is very balanced.
SE, best "all in one buffer".i have a 70lvl SE which i lvl with my sub, helped me make some other fun toons (when there were no beginners buffs ) pretty proud of the toon actually :) the shortkey bar is full of macros, looking forward to get the SE 78lvl, pow ftw!

Main Character OL. WC on same account. Both played live.

Oh, I never said it was a bad thing.
I actually think it's a better implementation of the subclass system than L2 has - more... modern, if you will.
I am just saying that the L2 Bishop/Cardinal and GW Monks are pretty barebones compared to Cleric implementations in some other games :)

As I said, support classes are overall badly designed. (imo..) I voted EE, im biased though since I've been playing one for almost 5 yrs :( But support classes are indeed poorly designed in this game, and throughout the years the dev team have tried balancing them out, only to make some totally useless or unnecessary. A shame too, alot of potential but most are just boxed in the most buff dependant game out there because of poor design.

L2 bishop/cardinal and gw monks are quite different, and dunno how can you call class with 250 different active skills barebone it has all kinds of dd abilities, debuffs, cc, heals, protections spells, ress' etc etc...and design of for example protectionspells in gw is great
I cannot even use some skills on my Necro in GW because I do not have enough points in that spec, etc.
Priests in WoW are limited in Skillset depending on what specs they have.
That's the way that game was balanced.
Every class needs a lot of skills to be viable, or there would be empty specs.
What is viable to use on your GW character is oftentimes totally dependent on what your spec is, in which case the skill should not be on yo bar. That's why there's that site that tells you what your bars should be like for each spec, and how you should distribute your points :)
To say they have 250 skills and leave it at that totally undermines that system. You have to put it into perspective.
Monks in GW are sufficient, there is nothing totally wrong about them, or bad about them.
