I didn't make this thread because of the negative rep he/she gave me, but because of the mentality some players has.
So far I have seen 3 different point of views that some "players" has:
1. botting = cool
2. not botting = e-bayer
3. legit = n00b
For me and the other legit players out there the point of few is completly different:
1. legit = cool
2. botting = trash of the server or just another type of mobs
3. e-bayers that buys OE items as soon as they reatch the lvl they can wear them = n00bs that needs to learn how to make adena in L2
There's no way to see who it is that left the comment with the rep? Someone left me positive rep comment and I know what they meant so I was hoping to see who it was.
I got this for the favorite class threads and I got support from the kind players of the game, just ignore the child mentality of the negative players and keep strong :D

Funny how they won't leave names. I think we should be able to track down who reps us or not.
I think time has come to disable this system, or watch what people put as comments for negative rep and remove the idiotic negative rep giving that some users seem to give meaninglessly.

I'm gonna put my two cents here: We want GM's that do EVERYTHING... fix the issues ingame and take care of forum as well... this is how it's supposed to be. I agree to an extent, but you still set priorities at your job right? If it's anything like where I work, there are always more things to be done than are possible given the time constraints of a project, so you figure out what's essential and either drop the rest, or get more people to help out.
If the servers were cleaned up and the legitimate questions/concerns on the forums were all addressed, sure they could police rep comments. But if they have to choose one or the other because they clearly don't have time to do both, I know which one I'd rather they spend time on.
People need to STOP hiding behind negative rep. If someone wants to rep me negatively at least have the balls and courtesy to sign it as I do.
All rep should have the name of the person who gave it (or took it away) attached and it must force a reply to the post in question.

I don't care if my rep meter turns red, but some new players may be looking at the rep meter to determine if the answer is good or not.

I'm not sure I know how to respond to that last part, but when the game launched, very few people were boxing. Then some started doing it, and a lot of players felt it wasn't legit. Then a lot of those players started doing it. Then people, not satisfied with things being easier with two or three characters logged on at once, started automating it completely. Which brings us to now.
Boxing is legit. NCSoft is the company doing the rules. THey allow it, therefore, it's legit. Now... if a player, in the eagerness to become "uber" thinks that it's cool to use third-party programs to automate their buffers, not THAT's not cool. There's a LOT of us that simply box buffers for many reasons (not having many buffers our level to party with, not trusting current pick-up groups, not wanting to stay in town to level properly and safely until a buffer shows up to party with us, some of us became "boxed" buffers by simply rerolling their mains but finding a use to them... etc etc etc).
Blaming boxing to be the reason the game is the way it is is very unfair. It's not boxing the problem. It's the player's mentality. If I'm boxing my Prophet, for example, and a live prophet wants party, I'm the first one to ditch the box to take in the live player. And so do most of my clanmates. But I'm not going to sit in town for hours trying to find a live buffer that wants to group with me, especially cause it's very unlikely any will do so... The problem with the game is way, way more complex to just blame it on boxing. Actually, doing so is choosing the easy way out to blame for the current game's situation.
If many players didn't resort to anything, including cheating, in order to become the top dogs, for reasons I'll never understand (maybe a lack of something in their real lives that they feel the need to cheat to be uber in a virtual game?), there wouldn't have been botting, or cheating or any of the issues we now face. That's not about the boxing. It would still happen, bots would still exist, automation would still exist, even if NCSoft never allowed boxing. And we ALL know that. Some people prefer to go the easy way and blame it on boxing. It's easier, right?

We draw a big bright line at automation because NC draws a big bright line at automation and they're the ones who get to make the rules. Some macro programs are a gray area, if you want a debate between people with differing opinions on those then fine. Boxing is not in that gray area, it's very explicitly allowed and "kosher".

Rep points don't give you anything. However, with the green & red bars you see under people's names. You can sometimes tell, who's giving you decent advice & who might just be pulling your leg! :)
I kind of figured that the admins would be able to track the rep points, and I suppose it's a good thing. Especially when there are people out there signing negative, offensive reputation comments with someone else's name. That's not cool, children. No no.

I somehow gained a green square and I don't try to be nice to anybody. There's nothing stopping me from going around adding rep to any troll I see. The whole rep system is pointless, which is why i don't care about it. It means nothing
for example, several "trolls" i know leave their name beside their + or - rep, and reasons why. some people prefer to have a distinct, acknowledgeable comment on a particular post, that cannot be viewed by everyone.
if you leave your name, and a reason why you like/dislike a particular post thats your prerogative. hence the reason for this thread in the first place - people are leaving comments in other poster's names disingenuously. negative comments REQUIRE you to leave a comment, and some people are leaving negative comments with simple periods. hiding, disliking someone's post, and not helping a poster by leaving a comment that would be constructive.
sneezingtiger, you likely made a good impression on someone in a post. if you click the name of the thread you recieved rep from then you MIGHT see why someone approved of the post you made. it may have been helpful, insightful, funny, etc.

You can't blame it entirely on botting and gold buyers either. The problem starts before that. This game, and most Korean-style MMOs have unreasonably heavy grinds, and so people resort to taking shortcuts, whatever they may be. I love the graphics and the style of this game, more than any other MMO, but whenever I find myself killing spiders for 3 hours, doing nothing but hitting two or three keys, I can't help but wonder how it's supposed to be fun. That's where the botting or the gold buying starts. If you look at other MMOs, particularly American ones, like World of Warcraft, botting is only seen in a fraction of the amount that it is in games like this one. And it's mostly because they don't have some kind of crazy grind and they have quests that actually reward you. So don't place the blame on botters and gold buyers. They're only part of the problem, just like boxing can be.
And I wasn't talking about whether or not boxing was legal or not by NCSoft's "rules". I just don't care for it on a personal level. I was talking about how one thing eventually leads to another. And the fact is that a large portion of boxers do use third party programs to automate thier buffers, or whatever it is they use. And for NCSoft, it's hard to tell who's doing it, and who's not. And that's where boxing becomes a grey area, whether they allow it or not.

As for this game--bleh--having some trouble getting back to it. It seems every night (my best times to play) there is something going on these days.
I won't be in game tonight or the next couple (except maybe late in evening). Perhaps Thursday night I can get into the game for 3-4 hours.....at which point I'm going to have to figure out a LOT of content, from these Kamalokas, to popsickles, to stone thingies on weapons!
And of course I have to figure out how to avoid Val (who seems to be regularly getting tanks killed from what I can see)....

Tanks just get killed when I "accidentally" fail my spells on around 5 or 6 mobs in VoS at the same time and they all turn to the tank. Then that's tough.... But it only happened once... I swear...

I took a break and played Pirates of the Burning Sea from Aug-October or so. It was 'okay'.
Then real life and work (a four-letter-word) got in the way of my return. Looks like I can begin to get back though--hope so anyway!
As for the name, I've been Drakkos in game since 2006. I know of a "Drakkus" who was I believe a high level orc on Lionna--not sure what happened to him but people often thought I was him but simply on another toon. He often killed me in seiges (as does mostly everyone).
Hope to be hanging around again--lots to catch up on.

I'll admit it is the anti-L2 game in most ways--and it was a nice little mindless break--but the game is simply not involved enough for the average L2 player.
Level 1-50. You can hit 50 in a crap society in 3 days. A mediocre society (clan) can put you in a 'top' ship in a week. Econ is simple. No botting. You sail around and get attacked by players in really fast little throw away boats that are 'haxxed to the maxx' (in other words, your cannon fire doesn't hurt them).
You CAN have 6 v 6 battles and port battles (like our seiges) are limited to 24 v 24 (which gets pretty laggy even on my comp)--but generally 5 or 6 jump you when your solo and you sink. Then you go out in a 6 group and attack solo's and duo's for awhile.
Everyone has the same builds and ships, there are 4 national choices and 2 career paths per nation--8 choices of 'class'. Same basic skill set for avcom. So when you get trounced 1 v 1 it's pretty easy to see that the other person didn't get any damage from point-blank broadsides, was able to sail his ship the equivelant of 70 knots, and somehow had his damage dealing and range maxed as well! Considering you have 9 slots to 'upgrade' on a ship it's always amazing to note the other guy has 7 ship attributes maxed (as in double or triple upgrades for EACH attribute???!!!!).
Anyway--fast start, blindly simply, no grind, no bots.....but also little variation, little challenge, lots of interesting haxxed encounters. Admittedly I loved the PortBattles (nation v nation) but even that kind of blew. You might have 50 ships/captains wanting 'in'--so the computer used a random lottery to give invites. Even if you accumulated 3000 points for THAT port battle, the invites might go out to others in your nation with 100 contention points and they'd get to accept and you'd be left out. That really sucked.
Anyway--glad I played PotBS. It was nothing special. Nice break and that's about it.
One thing I will say about Flying Lab Software (FLS)--their customer support is PHENOMENAL. They ban chat spammers immediately--they fix ticket requests VERY fast with no questions asked--absolutely top shelf support from those folks.
True story-my society mate intended to 'make' one type of ship but misclicked and made an alternate. He notified support and the next day they gave him the intended ship and removed the mistake ship. No questions asked. Likewise, I thought I had a remaining durability when I lost a ship so I petitioned, got an individual response in like 8 hours "here are the 4 dates and times your ship sank--meaning no remaining duras. If we have these in error please contact us....". They were right. I really, really liked FLS!

I am deadly serious. I'm married, but hubby doesn't play, he doesn't like MMOs so much ... last MMO we played together was ROSE Online and he got bored of the grind past lvl 40... (mind you that lvl 40 there is like lvl 20 here). And right now he's way way too busy to play anything, let alone MMO's.

Heheh my hubby doesn't even have time for our Playstation 2. Poor thing. Last game he tried to play was Imperium Civitas on his PC and he gave up cause he didn't have the patience to build temples and shrines for his people and they started burning the city down lol!

ROTFL, for me the same! xD~~ I consider it a party game. like almost all Wii games around. Lets say a party console for have fun with friends. If you want a console for play serious games, Ps3 is da best \o/
My Wife used to play L2 with me quite a but back in the old days, but I took a couple breaks and when I returned she never got into it again. Now we play Trauma Center on the Wii and a few other party games (family game night, tv show king, wheel of fortune)

Yea i lost my red :( now to cry in a corner cuz i just bought 2 time cards today so i'm back for a bit and I was so hoping to get more reds cuz i need S grade soon. Hmm I wonder if those children who claimed i bot and ebay can give me more reds or can they send me a credit card so i can stop harassing best buy for these hard to get time cards.

I was the master of the forum, pwning noobs with bad reps! and now... it's all gone :(
All they need to do now is remove positive rep too, so people can still comment on your post, but it's not the horrible attention whorish system it is now.
Actually I would like to hear why they removed negative rep because as far as I know it was not abused much. And those with negative rep where ppl who deserved that kind of rep.

Not abused? This was and is the worst rep system i ever saw. The most funny is that you could give to everybodys post a neg rep just because you want to be the "bad guy" without even giving your name.

The rep system has seemed silly since I returned, particularly since 99% of the "negative rep" was anonymous anyway.
If there were real replies and sigs with negative rep, I'd be all for it. I actually appreciate when people disagree and say why they disagree.

If possible, they could just have rep be auto-signed. make an annoucement. Beware if you rep, your name is left. haha! That should fix all rep problems
Just reading through this thread results in some pretty spectacular cases of lol. I would say we should keep the neg rep system if for no other reason than to watch the people that think it matters continually copy/paste every neg they receive and then get all emo.
