Pets

Hello,

I have currently a Dark Sorcerer, going to become Storm Screamer (the nuker class)

I was told that the best Pet to get would be a hachling. Now, what pet would be really best? It is not that i dont trust the person who told me that, i would just love to hear different opinions about it.
Hatchlings are fun, but to level up a Howler/Screamer you will find Empower a very useful buff. If you do not have a SE to buff you, the kookaburra can give you pet Empower.
See, that's not such an easy question to answer!

It all depends. What do you want from your pet? Do you want a pet that can carry you around and all, but will mainly leech from you? Then get a strider (hatchling).

Do you want a pet that can help you out with your leveling experience, but you lack in-game money? Then get a Kookaburra that can give you empower and raise your matk.

Do you have money to equip a pet in order to make it your constant party-member if you have to solo all the time? Then get a wolf and evolve it to a Great Wolf. Just remember that the equipment for a Great Wolf can cost from 40m (third best) to 110m average (top armor and weapon). But it's worth it as a Great Wolf is one awesome damage Dealer.

So you know? The answer to your question depends on what you want and your situation in game...
this is what i read on the web site about the Hachling of the Wind, the one i had my eye on:

Hatchling of Wind: The Hatchling of Wind is similar to a fighter. This Hatchling uses the skills Wild Stun, which damages the target and has a chance to stun, and Wild Defense, which increases the Hatchling's P. Def and M. Def.

I am going DE nuker, there for i am squishy... the idea of having a mini tank that i can use a speed mount kind of got me excited.

The long walks that you have to hold the key for every minute of it in Lineage 2 is pretty much the only thing that irritate me. It got to the point that i abandoned some quests just seeing how far i had to walk from the nearest tele point availble at the gate keeper. Now having a mount to speed things up sounded awesome.

While riding a strider, a player can still engage in basic combat. However, the player cannot use physical skills, and if the player is wearing any equipment, it cannot have any effect on the strider. However, a player's passive skills are still effective while the player is riding a strider, and the player can also use magic skills. If a player is under the influence of Heal, Buff, or De-Buff magic, it will only affect the player and not the stride

Also after taking leveling to 23 in the noob areas, it seemed that havinga mini tank or a mount i could cast spells while riding would be a good idea and more entertainment while leveling.

I trust the more experienced players on the matter tough, question is, is the "chicken" the only good option for my class? because the idea of having a 2 haeded chicken follow me around and just give me the buffs i already seem to have, while leeching on my XP doesnt sound very exciting. lol
I'm not very acknowledged on hatchlings, but they're far from being mini tanks. I don't think any pets can be effective tanks, really. The Great Wolf is a good "tankish" pet because of the amount of damage it deals, but you need a lot of money and if you're beginning, I don't think you can afford it.

And bear in mind that the speed of the Strider isn't that much higher from your own speed while running (not walking. You do mean run when you say "walk" right?). And the chicken is the best option for your class simply because of the buff it gives you. Empower enhances your matk, so you don't really want anything else. And bear in mind, the buffs you have will go poof as soon as you hit lvl 63. So think of the chicken as a future investiment :P
Okay i get it i need to have a chicken :(

would it be a good idea to simply buy one at 63 when my newbie buffs are no longer valid? i read that you can... by Level 63 hopefully i will find a money source that will be efficient for me (power trading crafting, idk yet how people make money cuz i'm still having hard time with the game controls :D )

i just really got excited when i learned i can have a mount :(

-PS, thank you for all the help guys, this game has a very helpful community. When i ask a question i actually get a helpful response instead of "get a life noob" or "go back to (insert random game name here)"
If you're excited for a mount, then go with the wolf or hatchling. Keep in mind that the hatchling is in no way a valid tank for you, it will die in 1-4 hits depending on what you're fighting. Of course the Strider will be a bit better than the hatchling. But if you're just looking for support and something to make the game a bit more interesting, the chicken is a great choice.
Sorry if i make another question about the OP issue: all pets gets same xp from the owner ?
Nope, I think the Great Wolf has the highest xp leech, like 35%. I believe all the others have like a 15% leech, but I'm not sure.

couple of points here you should note:
Dragons are fragile till they *hit lvl 55ish, and they eat ALOT (pet food costs adena). But then most pets are the same in that arena till they evolve. the healer/buffer pets (buffaloe, Kukabura ~"chicken thing", and tiger) are pretty fragile and die easily forever as far as I know. As a mage class you will probably want the Kukabura's empower buff so you don't ever have to "tank" anything. :D

you don't have to hold a key to move from one point to another... you can click (mouse click) in the distance and off your avatar will go...

Sorry your 100% Wrong on this one. Hatchlings Stats are = Strider Stats. The Only Diffreance is you can ride a Strider and you can not rider a Hatchling but as far as stats it's no difference at all.

Wind Hatchling = Wind Strider

Star Hatchling = Star Strider

Taxi Hatchling = Taxi Strider (Twilight/Dusk)

Easy One...... The Chicken thing. and not just Because of the Buffs. The Chicken Recharges MP also at 55+ and if your very low on HP it will heal you which is great for when your in a jam or real low on hp from doing BTM I do suggest at some point you get the top armor for it thou.

They are arggo Magnets. ;)

But With Top armor at 55+ and cast your Level 1 Shield on it the Pet has about 390 P defense (430 with Shield 3) and 2379 HP (3092 with BTB 5) SO he can take a few hits and that's all he needs your a nuker kill the mob :)

the dragon stats don't improve as they level? ouch.

Yes it Does but you said
Dragons are fragile till they go strider. Which is wrong they can Stay a Hatchling and still have the same stats. Yes they get stronger as they Level but they don't get better stats by becoming a Strider. My level 64 Wind Hatchling has better stats then a 55 Wind Strider but it has the same stats as a 64 Wind Strider ;)
thank you all for being so helpful!

what i will probbaly end up doing is get a hachling to have a cool looking mount (sorry cant resist a mount :D) and in the same time look into buying a slightly higher level "chicken" since it seems it is more useful at later levels (when the newbie buffs expire).

While i do realize the value of a good chicken next to a mage (and i will get one defenetly, i have allot of time on my hands to play even if i have to level one ;)) having a mount is maybe 30% of the fun factor in a game for me :D

is it possible to have both in the inventory? not summoned, just ready to use. and do people generally sell either one or the other?

Yes

and

Yes :D
Also fighting while mounted is not recommened because
as a fighter you rely on the dragons soulshot less attack

as a nuker
you nuke with no weapon which casts slow and does no damage

as a healer... you could pull it off... just slower cast if you have acumen weapon

as a archer
no bow no damage

Had a buffalo before and that one leached like crazy just like the wolf.
Just jumping in quickly. As it's been said, it's all personal preference. Many of the pets can be useful to any class. It all just depends on what you want from the pet. Buffs/heals? A melee companion? A mount? Recharge?

I personally don't like striders all that much anymore except for being a mount. That's just my opinion though. The wolves have become a much more solid DD with their evolutions, and the 'chicken thing' aka: kookaburra can give mage buffs and recharge. The latter is ideal enough for me to give that one a try.

I chose wolf though in the poll just because I've loved the wolves since the beginning. ^_^ I do have one that I intend to level up and evolve.

...back to 'the chicken thing'...I LOL'ed at that. Good one. ;)
