I dont understand why bluewolf light would be best for me
Majestic - DC - Nightmare - Tallum.

On that order if you want efficiency and not looks. If you want looks, go Tallum and don't look back :D

Bluewolf light has better pdef than the low a grade light armors (DC,tallum) and apella and almost as much as top a, very very close

bluewolf has cast speed boost which really helps your magic,

you have extra mp

extra mdef

extra magic resist

extra mp regen

a little less magic power, but it doesn't affect it much

Top Apella has same P defense as Top A grade .

just FYI ;)

Since when does Blue Wolf have more pdef than A grade armor? The 5.24% does NOT justify the rest of the set. Especially does NOT justify staying in B grade through A grade.

The castspeed will NOT be of any help for a Soul Breaker. The addition is so little that it will make absolutely NO difference at all. Besides, a good Soul Breaker rarely relies on magic to hunt. They rely on melee. Any Soul Breaker that relies on magic to hunt is doing things wrong.

You cannot put Blue Wolf as a better choice than DC or Majestic at all. That's absolutely giving people the wrong advice.

Have you ever got a Soul Breaker to A grade and tested your own suggestions, Knight? Seems like you haven't.

To the OP: Majestic - DC- Nightmare -Tallum. Choose in this order and trust me. It's a toss between Majestic (for the stun bonus) and the extra MP and DC for the extra patk, attack speed and STR. Nightmare's good for the VR effect, but the other sets beat it.
even though I agree with most of what u said... I will totally reject the part where you say SB don't need cast speed. BW is indeed very effective in case you cannot afford A grade or you simply want to save adena. I have a lvl 72 SB with Maj light and use a +wit dye coz it's really useful. It barely affects debuff land rate and really increases my casting speed.

Ofc you cannot compare A grade to B... but BW might be kind of an exception on this. So knight might not have tested this, but I have ^^
I have to agree with Valerie almost 100%. Melee damage and Crit rate/Damage is far more important to PvE than anything else, they do quite a lot of damage. For PvP, Land rate, is more important than 15% casting Speed/re-use (which is actually pretty false).

While great for Berserkers, Blue wolf isn't that great for Soul Breakers. The +15 is offset by the decrease in wit by one which puts the increase at 'less' than 10%. 10% is almost non-existant for a Soul Breaker like Valerie pointed out (naturally low cast speeds). On top of that you also sacrifice 2 int and thus your land rate? A bad trade off. Ever since they added the Improved Casting Speed/Re-use passive, spell casting (with acumen 3) has been fine.
Imo, Doom is a stronger choice if you can't get a +6 P Leather set (which even gets a bit crap at late B grade).
A grade? Majestic is nice but extremely over-rated for low con classes (I see even human daggers/archers get chain-stunned all the time in pve and pvp wearing the tell-tale Majestic white). I like bonuses I can count on. Dark Crystal is damage and attack speed that is dependable. The power output increase of this set is significant. I also used a NM set for mass pvp for the pvp bonus and getting rooted by tanks just ****** me off. Which incidentally usually lead to Shield stun 'fun', which is more reliable than archer stun. I found not being in range to 'be stunned' was better than 50% increased stun resistance.
During A grade, I kicked the arses of many archers just wearing my regular DC even after 'landing' a stun shot (okay it was oe'd heavily but not completely +6). Unless they skill crit, or you give them the time to get enough regular crits, they will struggle to kill you fast enough before you rock them, especially if you strip Blessing of Sagi and/or Rapid Fire, if you catch Wind Walk they are in real trouble. SR's cause more trouble than anything simply because catching them is a pain in the butt!
If they have max range on you and catch you by surprise, they will probably kick your *** though. Getting in close asap is key...

Anyways, I'd say DC > all A Grade LA for both pvp and pve. Failing that, Majestic or Nightmare depending on your play-style.
I use on mine a DC light...I tried a sierra blade from a friend and i was like wow...the chicken sure can kill mobs....now I'm looking for an affordable sierra:)

Yes i fought a 76+ SB in a +6 bluewolf light set who quickly switched out a SoM to cast and back to a rapier for attacks and she was kicking butt and casting extremely fast and taking lives quickly. + she was hard to kill. and yes if you test

a non enchanted blue wolf light set has more pdef than dc light and nightmare light and has about 13 less pdef than majestic and nightmare

Talk about under-geared for that level... Drac Light has more pdef than Tallum heavy. Additionally attribute damage has made pre-S grade armour obsolete.
Knight, one detail here: +6 Blue Wolf Light. DUH? Honestly, of course THAT would make a difference.

BUt honestly? You were recommending a BW light set. You haven't mentioned "Ah yeah you need to get your BW light to +6 to make it worth it".

Honestly? Anyone that would stay in Blue Wolf light while being able to afford Maj or DC would be doing a BAD choice. Period. Soul Breakers should NOT be depending on nukes to win fights, and especially, the debuffs (except for Curse of Life Flow which has a slower cast speed on its own) cast pretty fast on their own. At max, do a +WIT - MEN tattoo to help a little, but seriously, I think that's completely not necessary. A Soul Breaker isn't a nuker. It's a fast, dagger-like fighter that has SOME nukes that help them out. There's no reason AT ALL why an A Grade SB would choose to stay in Blue Wolf LIght unless they couldn't afford one of the good A grade sets.

There's no doubt on this. I cannot see why anyone would choose to stay with BW light, without being overenchanted to +6 through A grade if they can afford DC or Maj. Shouldn't even be argued, really.

Though shove the elemental resists on the drac and it stomps tallum into the ground

+0BW pdef>+0 low a grade pdef

now +6BW pdef is even more> +6 low a pdef

cause like how a +0 dc robe is the same pdef as +0 majestic robe

will +6 dcrobe pdef> +6 majestic robe pdef just due to that % increases inside of static increases

Also yes the magic does make a difference, a Soulbreaker w/o the magic is a nerfed to oblivioned dagger just asking to get 1 shotted everytime he/she shows her face outside of town.
I didn't say the magic wasn't important. I said that a Soul Breaker should not be relying on their nukes to exp or PvP. They should work as an additional damage, something for a SB to do while their target is rooted/silenced. Not their main damage. And more importantly, it's NOT enough to justify staying in BW through A grade when much better sets like DC and Maj are available.

Any Soul Breaker that chooses to stay in BW (+0, we're talking here) through A grade thinking that the castspeed boost will help them has NO idea what they're doing.

I'm currently a level 67 soulbreaker(male) in BW light +0. I'm working on majestic for the stun resist but i do prefer the bw cast speed. After you get Curse of Divinity you will depend on magic quite a lot in pvp. The only time the blue wolf makes things ugly for me is vs archers. Any other melee i can pretty much kite and nuke to death. The cast speed bonus makes all the difference in the world against fast fighters such as dagger classes. For PvE i would prefer majestic hands down. The mobs stun way too much. But even for mass pvps blue wolf serves better than majestic, due to slightly faster reuse on skills (Note that even though the bonus it grants is small in numbers, the spells have low base cast speed as it is, making the gain still very useful when considering the % of increased speed spell is cast with). Honestly if i could afford the rest of my maje set i would gladly keep maje for pve and bw for pvp. The higher soulbreaker gets the more spell dependant it gets (look at 76+ skills for example)

Just for a side note: Only class of equal level (gear difference ofc) that has so far managed to kill me without me standing a chance is berserker. Every other class i have killed more times than i have been killed, using blue wolf.
After you get your Majestic or DC, come back and say whether you still prefer BW for PvP ;)

I am willing to bet you will agree with me.

I'd hope so to since they don't get any LA mastery. Drac is just better than Tallum. Even discounting the attribute. The 4% p atck and the +1 str is about +2 str at certain levels of P atk (high a grade perhaps?). The only things Tallum has over Drac is the extra 4% attack speed (which is almost nothing considering the +1 Dex) and it's easier to make a +6 set where it begins to outperform the Pdef on a +6 drac thanks to the bonus.
The mp regen is also a nice boon but tbh, the increase in max mp is probably better for a low Men fighter class. When CT3 actually hits the attack speed will mean even less.

Concerning SB spells: They tend to rely on them a lot, but it's heavily dependent on what your fighting. Melee fighting a tank or Destro for instance tends to be suicidal.

@ Londo: If/when you can, try using something other than Blue Wolf on your SB for a bit. I'd imagine you'd find the casting difference to be indeed small. Like you yourself say, SB spells have short cast times to offset their low casting ability, meaning they naturally get lower benefits from acumen type buffs than true mages. Especially considering it isn't even a true +15% (-1 wit).
As the levels get higher, landing rate of curses and over-powering resistance becomes so important for a low INT Soul Hound and the -2 doesn't help at all.

I have used different as well, I borrowed majestic light from a friend for a few fights. It resulted in catastophy, since i had the kite/nuke timed out perfect. The slower cast speed resulted in enemies hitting me more often, and even a bloody dagger managed to kill me... Vs a tyrant i managed to get only bout half of his hp down, with BW i won. Versus mages it doesnt matter tbh (melee anyway), and vs archers majestic is a lot better. Try using bw light + acumen weapon lordriot (combined with acumen/zerk ofc) and see the damage output and speed you do with spells. Not all that many classes need you to fight them face to face thanks to hard march.
Well whatever works for you. I tried the BW route back in early A grade, and found it not worth it. This was even 'before' the Gracia update with improved casting speed. At the levels I'm at now, everything just works fine as it is. We'll just have to agree to disagree...
Oh well... I believe they will eventually change their minds. At least I hope :D Cause staying in BW is so not the way. And the nukes should be additional damage, not the main source of damage.

Silence (if it's a mage or has magic spells) / root / death mark / checkmate / blink / nuke (run and kite depending on who you're going against)... apply Curse of Divinity if possible, rinse and repeat... No SB should be nuking as a nuker, really, for castspeed to be that valuable in detriment of INT!! They AREN'T full nukers and many people seem to forget that.
BD's dont get *any* armor masteries past lvl 36, lol so yeah the difference wouldn't be that huge none the less. As for the +1 dex negating a 4% atkspeed? Not quite.. a +4 Dex tattoo adds less than 20 points into attackspeed on me as is (it varies from race to race but i'm a human) so +1 dex would do how much? Barely noticable anyhow. the extra 4% off an almost 500 atkspeed base (almost 600 with only haste 2, no zerk 2) does a whole lot more than a +1 dex do when +4 dex barely do 20 points. P.def (not counting +6 as they get different bonuses there) on the sets are fairly equal so it will only be masteries that decide which is best for what class. I just looked up the numbers on the clean items themselves and drac has 249 p.def and tallum has 278.
+1 Str adds 1-2% p.atk depending on what race/class you are while +2 does 3-4% depending aswell so there the drac would topple the tallum but other than that the tallum is the better, except for when elements gets thrown in.

Soulbreakers rely on magic much more than melee in PvP, thats how they kill, and the faster you cast, the more you can cast, and the faster you can cast again, really determines the outcome.

like steal divinity, cast it fast and get to reuse it again very quickly, to steal buffs again.
BD's dont get *any* armor masteries past lvl 36, lol so yeah the difference wouldn't be that huge none the less.

It's the armour mastery they get 'before' they become Blade Dancers that makes the difference. This is why BD's have almost the same P Def as say an equal level gladiator in Heavy simply because they get Tank mastery levels early one.

I didn't say it was 'equal'. I said it was barely noticeable, which is exactly what it is. You'd struggle to get more than +20 stacking full-on high-end buffs never mind with just Haste 2. It's certainly slower in Drac, but it isn't large enough to call it a real factor. Even more so when Gracia Final comes around.

I mean using your own numbers: 500 + 4% = 520, and that's without even counting the dex. It's really not a big deal.

P.def (not counting +6 as they get different bonuses there) on the sets are fairly equal so it will only be masteries that decide which is best for what class. I just looked up the numbers on the clean items themselves and drac has 249 p.def and tallum has 278.

Since when have you only worn the main piece(s) in an armour set? I have both of these sets. Drac just straight-up has more P def. Simple as that.
It's certainly not a big deal. The numbers are indeed small, but it's just to highlight how pointless it is giving up the only real but rather important bonus of Light armour (lots of extra evasion) when the only real advantage of going Heavy on a DD (say a Gladiator or Tyrant) is the additional P def.

Unless I have a +6 set or couldn't afford it, there is absolutely no way I would ever pick Tallum over Drac. Even if the attribute system never existed. The 'free' P. atk/atk Spd bonuses and perhaps most importantly, the extra mp is a big deal.

Ninja Edit No one saw. Silence! I kill you!!
