Warcryer class as a 'battle mage'?

Orc Classes Started Last reply 14 posts
...lol sorry that was the best description I could think of. My question here is my main is an SE and I just subbed for the first time over the weekend. My hubby and I had tried a warlord/PS combination on the latest PTS and got to 70+ with almost no problems. BUT. As much as I do want to have the PS on my sub list somewhere, I'm not sure if I want to be standing back and buffing/healing for two classes in a row.

I know some could say a WC is the same thing. But I've partied with plenty WC's and seen them in action enough to believe that they can be more than just pocket buffers. I am wondering if they would have enough of the 'action' aspect that it could be an exciting class for me. I really do enjoy crowd control and party support, so I've been thinking a WC would be an interesting choice. I'm a bit concerned as far as usefulness when paired with a Warlord, but I know hubby and I are good at surviving on almost any duo. So I'm sure we could adjust accordingly. He's always been very good at judging pulls and survivability, so I have faith things will be fine if we're careful.

My question is still the crowd control/party support/action. Is a WC a fun class to play? How do they fair in PVP? How are they at balancing parties? I'm really tired of being a one-shot target mage, and I really want more action. :P So any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. *wink*

PS--Neither of us (hubby or myself) care for buff pets or dual-box accounts, so please don't bring those things up here. ^_^ Thanks in advance.

Hehe thanks spud. ^^
I hope to hear some thoughts on the WC class. :) No where else for me to ask, guys!

*edit* Tsk, tsk, shame on Tamoh...silly orc posted twice! /shockedface
SE is like a hybrid. (Healer/Buffer)and now a little Nuker at 44+

Now WC IS a Hybrid (Mage/Fighter) there is nothing Like about it.

Wc has the Most CON,HP, CP, STR in game as a Mage which make them pretty good fighters (mainly with SoulCry) They even get a Few HP boost as they level giving them a lot of HP for a Mage.

They Dam near have all the fighter buffs you will ever need at 74+ and top it off they have a Strong Drain which is like a Nuke and can wear Robes, Light and Heavy. (SE can't wear Heavy). The only thing they Lack is empower which you can deal with and WW which is easy fix with a potion.

They can Heal and they can STUN with a Blunt. But they can use any weapon but a Pole or Bow.

They have weapons master so they open 2 any type of weapon like other mages. So it's many ways you can play them.

Are they fun to play? yes

Can they Solo? hell yes and Dam good with a Great Wolf. With a Great Wolf they are like a Over Powered Summoner.

Now PVP takes some work. They Need a Blunt with Acumen for PVP and they don't really Shine till 78+ they MP use on drains were ++30% like a few updates back and they pretty much killed them in solo PVP. However they do great behind the lines.

Best dam support they can buff a full party faster then any PP, EE, SE can even dream of. and they Sleep speed is 2nd only 2 Trance and last longer.

They can also use Fear and some Nasty DOTS
Thanks Ash. :) As I told you in the PM I played around with a baby shaman a couple times a while back. It was a LOT of fun. I think I might give it a try...we shall see! Thanks again for the reply.
For Extra fun get a SoES and get a 20% chance for BtB 5.
My question is still the crowd control/party support/action. Is a WC a fun class to play?

If you like "quarterbacking" parties while throwing out some respectable melee damage and being the hub of party support then yeah Warcriers are fun. When I use the term quarterbacking I mean it. Back in the day I spent a lot of my time just behind the linemen(tanks, warrior classes, etc.) keeping track of mob respawns, CC'ing "adds", refreshing buffs, stabbing like crazy with Soul Cry going, casting the rare CoL heal, and off-tanking in heavy when needed. You need lots of gear sets, some sick multi-tasking skills, and your head on a swivel but you can get a lot out more out of the class than most do.

How do they fair in PVP?

Robe, Light, and Heavy armor masteries help a lot. General weapon mastery helps(use a bow, duals, dagger...it's all good). A sick drain helps. WC's are great in group PVP, siege, and Olympiad. The only real limitation is the lack of a CP heal or an effective HP heal. I've been yelled at for throwing CoL out during PVP and rightfully so, it's a joke.

How are they at balancing parties?

Warcriers are natural melee/physical damage party buffers.

I'm really tired of being a one-shot target mage, and I really want more action.

The warcryer is one of the best classes I have seen in any of the MMO's I have played. You make your friends insanely powerful and then instead of sitting on the sidelines you can grab the weapon of your choice and curb stomp targets. Paladins in WoW, Conquerors in AoC, and WP/DoK(not enough buffs) in in WAR aren't even close. A warcryer singlehandedly turns your party into beasts and then jumps in the mosh pit to get dirty.

The drawbacks:
- You wait longer to get buffs that other classes get earlier
- Chant of Life is okay, but if someone actually needs a heal then chances are that CoL ain't going to cut it
- Slow run speed
- Buffs are more MP expensive than SE/PP/EE counter-parts and they don't effect people unless you are invited to their party
- The sexiest looking class. The haters will be out in force. :D
Thanks for the detailed reply. ;)

I changed into a WC sub since my last reply here, and I'm almost bgrade. I'm LOVING it. The crowd control is amazing and the action is sweet. It's an amazing class!
For Extra fun get a SoES and get a 20% chance for BtB 5.

Doesn't this only apply to single buffs, so that you need to do a single buff on party members?
Warcryers are a great class. I recently spent some time at Monster Track Arena testing out some PVP skills and came to find out that warcryers can be good at pvp if you know how to play them. Fear, Sleep, Poison, Mana Drain and HP Drain skills can be deadly if used right. Only thing that Warcryers need is the passive recharge skills that other mages get that makes the recharges from SE / EE give alot of Mana. I am in B Grade Avadon Robes with an A Grade 2 Handed Dasperions Staff / Acumen. Currently LV 65 trying to decide between Dark Crystal Robes or Majestic Robes.
I disagree just because a warcryer isn't a mage like nukers, which get passive recharge bonuses. A warcryer is a buffer class. Hybrid at that, and I love them. :) I've honestly never had trouble with mp, and I'm using heavy armor of all things.

I don't like the MRT arena at all because it's not a real judge of true open-field PVP. But that's just my opinion.
You disagree with what? I dont understand. You just said what everybody already knows. Dont think that the Warcryer and Overlords cannot be played as mages because I have seen it done.

There is nonthing wrong with the Monster Track when its not full of noobs. When I go there I am not going there to run away from somebody, I am there to test out my skills. Also PVP can happen at anytime or anywhere so open field means nonthing. Thats just my opinion.
I'm a Dominator

Have fun being a drain-mage in pvp in the arena, that's the only area where your drain will be used as a primary damage dealing tool, especially 80+.

6 words explain this perfectly.

Greater CP Potions AND Elemental Stones

I drain for around 400 damage with a bsps on good jewels (Steal essence is +5) in cast speed setup and slightly more in arcana. Acu/emp3/zerk/victories. S80 jewels are mean , drains dont level past 74 other than plusses, and we have no element that works in conjunction with our drains.

My bow on the other hand hits for 600/1400 ish, and it isn't that good. Real mages vortex/ slug or vortex/crusher you for near 3k a shot if you've got some elemental resists on your arcana robes, we don't talk about if you are in a grade :P

You will drain yourself right out of mp on any target you face in the open field as long as they are chugging gcp pots, and you won't do a thing to them. 5k cp and 6k hps don't last long in the grand scheme, even if you chug yourself.

That said, Warcryers still rule at their role, and are perfectly suited to the quarterback role. They are their own group and they support one beautifully. Hope that helps.
