I know levelling pets has changed a bit, but how much xp is given to the pet and taken away from you when grinding? In the end, is the pet that much of a benefit?
I currently have a level 16 wolf on a level 26 palus knight, and a level 35 hatchling of star on a level 41 destroyer. In the past Ive been really frustrated with levelling pets and every time I started I quickly stopped as I saw that neither my toon nor my pet was levelling very quickly. It was more trouble than it was worth.
Now with the vitality system, Im levelling faster than ever and Im curious if this effects pets as well.
anyway, just looking for some input. I also though about transfering my hatchling down to my palus knight and letting her level with it. I just dont know what would happen with a level 35 hatchling and a 26 palus knight.
Depends what you want from a pet. If you want extra DD, the wolf is worth it, but only post 55 once its a great wolf and geared with decent equipment, below 55 its just a one shot from mobs and a constant headache if you cant protect it.
If you just want something to ride around on, the hatchling isn't too difficult to lvl. Just get it the lowest armor you can buy to keep it from being a one shot (twilight's excluded) and let it leech xp. Hatchlings take the least xp, and twilights take even less, I don't know the exact %, but it is a lot less than wolves & great wolves.
And yes the vitality system also benefits the pets, also keep in mind there is an xp penalty on the pet or you depending on the lvl range. If you are 6 lvls higher than the pet, it gets an xp penalty and gains very little xp, if it is 11 lvls higher than you, you get the penalty.
Unfortunately a strider isn't good for much more than riding on. If you want an extra DD to help you level you need a 55+ wolf with fairly expensive equipment.

ya thats pretty much all i want it for. unfortunately I have a hatchling of star which from what ive been told levels slow. havnt found a twilight yet
from my experience (responsible for well over 100 hatchlings) it seems to be a 10% chance for twilight, 30% for star, and 60% for wind.
just keep doing the quest and you'll get one eventually.
doing one now actually. took me a while to remember the quest pattern where to go get the items, but now that I got the hang of it I should be able to no-brain grind it out
oh..so I take it twilight is still the best way to go for levelling a hatch?
The hatchlings all lvl about the same speed, twilight just takes less of your xp in the process, but it wont lvl any faster, its adjusted in a way so that it doesn't. It will also die if a mob breathes on it.
The first hatchling I lvld was a twilight, and if you want to go that route, I recommend hunting in catas/necros until its 55 and just park it in a hallway where it cant be harmed. Otherwise it will need a lot of rezes on its way to 55.
The Twilight also takes a LOT less food (unless they changed that). I have pets on every one of my 14 toons, and have made 2 great wolves :D
If you want to level it fast, it's best on a simalar level toon but they level pretty good regardless of the level difference, at least in my experience. I just leveled a wolf from 15 to 27 on my lvl 65 OL in just a few days. On my cata dwarves the higher level wolves are a big help in fighting :) Working on a kook and buffalo too, the silly buggers like to follow me into an aggro room to heal me tho ><

thanks
level the one you like most. dont level what people like most. i level wolf coz i like it .
leveling pet is not easy, you got to spending lot of time with it. hence, level the one you like most.

well, I guess I'll continue levelling the star. I like how it casts even though its not much. actually being 35 and myself now 27 it can take some hits and its casting can take out mobs that con yellow to me easily on its own

I always wanted a star hatchling... hatchling quest needs a revamp...you can choose your baby pet...there's one wolf....but you can't choose your dragon. Then the baby pet and wolf 55 change is just a click of a button for big improvements while the 55 dragon is tedious for no stat improvements but a nerf (more food consumed, more xp taken) for a ride slower than a wolf.

Strider takes the same XP as a hatchling no different. :D
since the thread is still alive, does defense come completely from the player riding the strider when he is mounted? I read that the attack stats come from the strider, but "other" stats come from the person riding it. "Other" was never defined.
IMO you should not level a Wolf unless you have 200kk+ for gear..lol.
im not 100% sure if its true, but was just told from someone that lvld there wolf to 55 and evolved it that it gives you an option when you evolve it to upgrade the gear for a cheaper cost.
they said they had top regular wolf gear, they took the option to upgrade gear and it upgraded to top great wolf gear for 50m. so if this is true it doesnt take the 150m+++ to get top GW gear.

it upgrades the regular wolf gear to the 13 mil or whatever equivalent...it'd still cost like 100 mil in npc gemstones.
Hummm then you would think they would want as much as they could get or donate the items to the clan and let the clan sell for street price. In any case was your lucky day :P
if they were cashing out, they only had a limited amount of time to sell before their account would have expired...sort of like how people sell stuff for dirt cheap when xferring servers.

I would think they would want the clan to have as much money as possible before the clanhall auctions end.
I just saw someone riding a wolf? I didnt know these could be used as mounts. So can we ride these at level 55? Im not sure what level this wolf was but ya ..definitely someone riding a wolf

You can ride a great wolf at 55 IF you're in a clan (or get into one) that has a hall in Rune or Aden. The doorman can change it into a great snow wolf, which is mountable.

Really? huh didnt know that..never had a clan hall in either town though. I just thought they were special because they looked different but I didnt know they were mountable at 55. Nice...
