if you want to nuke and you have a good c-garde weapon get the deamon set and use Twister, the Darkwizard spell til lvl 52.
Or you can start to lvl with your Soulless at level 44 when you get Servitor Haste in catacombs or at Pawel Ruins. I wouldnt lvl with a Summon before you get Servitorhaste, the attackspeed of you summon is slow without it.
The Karmian Robe set and Acumen Weapon is good equipment for it.
Before lvl 44 you can nuke in the crater of the Ivory Tower.
How should I act.. and what's the best M.O. To level this toon?
I made one a few months ago. Before I made the toon though I sifted through a ton of threads on this forum and over on L2pets to see what was up with the class. From what I read pretty much everyone said that you should try nuking until 52 because the pets really don't shine like they should prior to receiving the Haste 2 buff for the pet. I read the words and decided that I wanted to play the class as a summoner from level 40 because it was what I was interested in, not nuking. Now, I can't say that I really regret going down that road because at 52 I know how to play the class like a summoner...but they were right. My Shadow went from barely being able to clear one small room in Apostate with both cubics going to effortlessly clearing a big room in Apostate with no cubics running.
The second level of the attack speed buff makes that much of a difference. It's almost a completely different class once you hit level 52; much more power.
I'm on Karmian.. and will get a Homu Acumen today.. yesterday I was too lazy to get it.

Get better gear. You can buy Demon from Armor Shop in Giran. Get an OE'd Homu, like +6 or so. They aren't too expensive (you can make one yourself if you have adena to do so).

I didn't get better gear, because I thought that after 40.. it would be the summoner to do everything. ;)
Then why are you asking on a forum. You know all the self-powerlevelers will tell you to nuke to 52. If you will use the Summon then just use Karmian and a Mysterious Sword with Acumen and buff/heal you summon.
even jus using the summon get something better than mysterious sword, +5 or more homu will let you land windshackle w/o having to fill your weight guage w/ cbsps, windshackle will be fairly important to keep your summon alive w/o spaming your mp if your lvling in catas or other non solo mobs
