My idea is to get 1/2 persons per server.. with an email, so that they can have a place to put the shots/fraps they will receive. Emails won't be replied to.
To start.. I will choose people that I trust in, but in future additions to the team, everyone will have a word on this.
- We won't post duplicated images.
- We'll check now and then for name changes.
- We will try our best to hide the reporter identity.
- Spam(not the GM :P ) will be severely filtered.
- We won't post "Thank you player_xxx for reporting" messages.
- We won't post any cheater names in official boards as it is not allowed.
- We will control grieving(clan wars) and site will be heavily moderated.
- We won't post images/fraps without 100% proof!
Until the team is made.. and initially set up.. the name will remain "Hall of Shame", after that we will have a meeting and decide if we keep the name or change it to something else.
Site will come a bit later.. I'm trying to tune it up a bit... and find a better theme.
People interested in doing this, post here and I will get back to you.
Do keep in mind that only 1/2 persons will be allowed per server, so please don't go "demanding" that you also should have access. If someone on the team isn't working as they should.. they will be removed from the specific server... and new spots will be open.
This thread is gonna be locked so fast. but anyway. screen shots and fraps do nothing to get bots banned because they can be altered with editing programs or made on a private server.

Dunno if it will..
Screens and fraps can be altered.. cool. That's why I want people that belong to that server, filtering the incoming reports. Will be harder to forge and things can always be validated more easily.
Exactly, and I am pretty sure there is people who have an agenda as well. Honestly. people's greed and generalized assumptions and jealousy would compromise any sort of system, especially if any of these So-Called 'Regulators' have any vested interest within the Server.
fraps I can see, with a screenshot its pretty hard to know if a group is really botting or not..like if I move into a cata room already loaded with arrows and I'm too lazy to pick them up and somebody passes by, takes a screenie and says, "hey look a botter, only a bot would not pick up arrows, right"?
So I agree with Jyrki that it would be the word of the player vs the one who took the screenshot, and the player would basically be guilty until they prove they are innocent.
Fraps would be a little harder to explain away if it was an obvious bot party...just throwing out things. I haven't decided if it is something I'd like to see or not. Having an official page with bannings is a little different than this idea.
...and for example, if I was a regulator, I for sure wouldn't approve a post regarding anyone I was friendly with, or was in my clan/alliance.
Heh, really? My clan and ally and friends are actually those I watch over the most, and if anyone of them is botting, everyone else gets to know it ASAP too. It's all the others I care little about.

This is more effort than it is worth imo. First of all it is not going to get anyone banned and your site will turn into a flame pit if anything. Also, I doubt ppl really give a rats *** what others think about their botting so long as they don't get banned for it. My two cents is to play the game and try to enjoy yourself, if that isn't possible then just /uninstall and find something else to entertain you.
Players have the misconception that we must do something about this problem. Being Lineage II a player-controlled world, does not mean NCSoft just has to reset servers every Thuesday, and nothing more.
I report clannies...but only after I kill them a bunch of times.
that makes two of us :p
I de-lvled a clannie I found botting almost 10 lvøs from 7x to lvl 61. I trained him til he died and he had hes bot to return to the same spot so after giving him enough death penalties he was killing himself on the mobs.
On Devianne just about everyone knows who the botters are. Some of them make no secret of it. Shaming them into corrective action won't work. Hell, I've reported several via petition, yet some of those players are still in game as recent as this morning.
I'm not one to shoot down any reasonable idea, but I think this is one of those instances where you'd need around the clock vigilance from players and NCSoft...
You know there's only gonna be 3 kinds of people visiting it right?
1) the self righteous people like yourself who can't just be against botting but must show everyone just how much you are against it.
2) botters checking if they're on it yet.
3) people uploading forged evidence. (edited screenshots, fraps made on a private server etc.)
A website like that serves no purpose other than pleasing group 1) and 3)
If you want to do something about it, report them, make sure they're getting banned, publicly exposing them wont do **** cause everyone and their dog already knows they're doing it.
Plus in doing so you're placing yourself in the gray areas of the forum rules, there are rules about naming other players in that way, which means it would be a rule breach each time you talk about that site (like this thread for instance)
another thing, the amount of forged screenshots will be exponentially proportional with the amount of activity by GM's on that website. If anyone figures out the GM's use that website the forgery will explode. In turn making it useless for GM's to go there cause nearly everything will be fake.
And that's before taking into consideration the bias of your "regulators". Nobody is unbiased, nobody.

Wrong.
I will visit it to check for reports about my clanmembers (and clanmember candidates). Won't you?
Instead of botters, I'd like to see a Hall of Shame for scammers (ones that are intentionally scamming ppl like trying to sell soul ore as a crys etc...)
I will visit it to check for reports about my clanmembers (and clanmember candidates). Won't you?
No. I won't.
Plus I like my friends, I don't intend to spy on them. And anyone who tries to spy on them or myself would not be a friend of mine for long.
Also I don't trust this site to be accurate as soon as it has >0 "reports"
I generally ignore any threads or posts to do with bots because it got old yonks ago and it doesn't accomplish a thing, but I'm going to give my two cents on this one. Despite your intentions, SneezingTiger among others made some really good points and I really don't think your plan is going to work. The owner(s), admin(s), moderator(s), contributor(s) or whoever of such sites could simply be any of the hundreds of sanctimonious fools on this board who complain so much about botting in an attempt to almost exonerate themselves from the 'bot' category when, in fact, there is no proof they are legit and could very possibly be botting themselves.
I posted to another voting thread, not totally understanding this, and I think my post might be taken wrong there. As for your idea, it's a noble one and yes it will be unpopular since the botting/ebaying/cheating (etc.) ratio in this game's population is rather high. I've already been doing a lot of this in-game...taking game vids, screenshots, snapping bits of conversations that could be incriminating, etc...and I submit them to GM's. I've seen action taken, and it's quite nice to feel like our efforts to help the GM's put an end to cheaters is being taken seriously (I can't imagine how many reports they get...must be insane). It sometimes appears that nothing is being done, but the rebirth of new bots and new cheaters is so high, the banned numbers get replaced pretty quickly.
I would never post screenshots or names here or in any public place, so I don't completely agree with your website idea. I'm glad to see that you are trying to keep things smooth as much as possible otherwise. It would be a good idea to simply get together and post screenshots and whatnot to GM's and let them do the rest. I only wish there were more people like you...so willing to report suspicious activity to help clear things up for the legit players.
Unfortunately as I've said too often, it will be an unending battle. But that's how things are in this game and in real life. Good luck to you. :)
True. It's hard to prove some stuff.. But I'm not transforming this into.. "I only report my enemies".
Everryone that I can confirm that are bots, I will post on that site. I also posted HowTos.. and will post some other Modus Operandi on Bot detecting and other things to come.. that are part of a new investigation I'm doing.
Some people have been trying to discredit me.. but I don't care, I know what I do... and what I have to do.. to try and help other players like me, that are afraid to show their faces in fear of the high-lvl-bots. At least they will have a place to see.. and to identify themselves with.
Ashleighfraps I can see, with a screenshot its pretty hard to know if a group is really botting or not..like if I move into a cata room already loaded with arrows and I'm too lazy to pick them up and somebody passes by, takes a screenie and says, "hey look a botter, only a bot would not pick up arrows, right"?quote]
OOPS.. I don't pick up arrows, I never have. Got no need for them & don't want to be over weight! Lol
don't forgot pirotessa who will swamp the site with thousands of screens of someone legitimately boxing a buffer.
i posted screens that someone posted on another website of themselves playing and it had all sorts of things wrong with it...random numbers all over the screen and clearly their system file modded with their text changed and in different colors and fonts. just got locked and deleted. was still good for a laugh, though.
When I take pictures of bots, they're the OBVIOUS ones. You all know what I mean but that...the names that look like they've been vomited out by a keyboard. Also a tight group of toons with the exact same gear and faces, matching names, etc. I take screens of...and I'll also submit any screenshots from other players with obvious incriminating factors. If it's just suspicious behavior, I do a vid capture.
I have reported clannies and 'friends' before. It's difficult, and I sometimes try to warn them beforehand so they have a chance to stop their behavior. It really stinks to be put in such an uncomfortable position when I see friends and family members cheating in this game. I really don't want to be the bad guy in that situation, but sometimes it calls for it.
As for putting up names of botters and whatnot, I'd be careful about that. I can completely understand why you'd want to do that, but it can also stirr controversey, questions about the legitimacy of the reports, and a witchhunt of sorts. That's why I still feel it's best to take screens, vids, etc. and report it to the GM's and let them handle it from there.
