I hit 80 a little over 10 days ago and I got Lightning Barrier.
The book drops on the very first floor of the tower. The drop rate is very good so do not waste adena buying it. I think it dropped at the 40th mob for me. In fact after mob number 40 we got several books to drop, mass disarm and smart cubic dropped as well.
Ok, back on subject. I finally got Lightning Barrier. If I remember correctly it cost me 150 mill SP. I pvp a ton so I had no problem with that.
It is a self buff only. It can not be cast on any other Kamaels (i tried).
The buff has a 20 minute duration just like every regular buff.
Now to the juicy part. Does it actually work?
Hell yes. Straight forward and to the point.
It triggers often. I do not have exact numbers. I wish I did, but just so you have a good idea, I dueled against a bunch of clanmates. All where 79, 80 and 81.
I had an lvl 80 Stormscreamer nuke me with hurricane.
I had a 79 Phantom Ranger shoot me repeatedly.
I had a 79 Grand Khavatari melee on me.
I had an 81 Duelist spam specials on me.
In every duel, the skill triggered at least 2 to 3 times.
The buff works on nukes, arrows, tss and regular melee hits. I was pleasantly surprised.
The Para only lasts 3 seconds. It is a Para and not an anchor, so you can inflict damage while they are PZ'd.
3 seconds might not seem like alot, but it does trigger fairly often and it is yet another trick that us Soulhounds now have up our sleeves. Supposedly in the next update we can Enchant this skill. I think the options where chance , power and cost. If power would lead to a longer Para duration, it would be worth testing to see if it is more beneficial than the chance. This skill triggers more than I thought it would. I really thought it would be kind of crappy. I was very happy and surprised.
I am currently racing to 81. I would love to hit it before the update, but i prolly will not. On top of that, Lightning Shock book drops off of Tezza or Antharas. So, just wishful thinking on my part. I hear the skill will be changed from 81 learn level to 83 come next patch. :(
Anyway, if any of you choose to take your character to the outer limits of leveling and decide to level up all 3 subs, the Inspector sub class gives Chance Barrier as a Sub Class specific option at lvl 75. So, if you have the Lightning Barrier, PvP light armor (from Fame) and the Chance Barrier, you will increase your survivability a ton.
Chance barrier fires alot as well. It lasts about 5 seconds. All these little boosts add up. So go for it.

Grats mate! I saw this on the PTS and wanted it almost straight away. I dare say this skill sealed the deal where it comes to the Soul Hound for me. Imo it's pretty overpowered and an absolute beast ^_^. I saw it trigger like 6 times on a tank, even after he pulled his bow out haha.
Man I didn't know it worked on nukes aswell, that's pretty sick! Chance would be my first choice for skill enchant but time could work. though usually time is percentage based off of the original duration. A % of 3 might not be all that great.

Edit: Btw, if you don't have boss jewels (I wish I did _-_) you could try for a 76 (or 80 I guess) LS stone Increase Para P atk augment and see how that works. I got it on one a piece and I'm just waiting till I can get L Barrier. I really wish I kept the chance doom on recieved damage augment. That + CS + Pvp aug + L Barrier would be sick I might try for it again at some stage.
Omg kronk! ^^ ty for sharing this info. Currently I'm finishing my 3rd class quest, after a long time, and only by being S grade I noticed a huge boost in my dps. I thought that Lightning barrier would be one of those SP waste skills... but reading this makes me happier :D
I am making a mad rush to 81. I doubt I will make it. Even if I do, I will need a second miracle of getting the lightning shock book/scroll. I read on a site that Frint and Antharas are the only way to get it. So, it is a random drop. I wish I knew how much time is left before the update.
Thanks also LordRiot for the Para Aug Tip. I will shoot for that. As far as enchanting, Chance would probably be the best choice. Time usually has minimal returns from past experiences.
It is really a cool skill. What is best, is my enemies think it is some sort of Chance Para augment on damage.
Supposedly in the next update, chance augments are supposed to be increased in effectiveness. Would a chance para augment be nice to stack with Lightning barrier? Could be pretty interesting.

Tbh, I wouldn't worry about rushing to 81 for Lightning Shock. All you need is the skill book, and when you 'get to' 81 you can still use it (apparently). However getting it really depends on your server and what friends you have. There aren't many 80 level Soul Hounds so you might get lucky ^_^.
Tbh though, I think the 83 version will be better. It will be a 83 learn level skill. That's like a +3 or 4 skill compared to 81? You will also be able to get the book in oly which is much easier than those stupid raids.
The Chance para aug (as well as SK LS) get's nerfed in CT3. Which is great as the augment was stupidly overpowered before. When even daggers could land it (with luck) by using Blessed shots.
For weapon augments, I'd still recommend CS (which becomes more a UD type skill, which is great as people can be healed through UD's) or chance doom. This Aug is absolutely amazing. If you've ever had both physical and magical silence on you, you'll know how much this hurts, even on a low land rate. Man, your an xp monster. Have fun lol.
And, I got the book. Well, let me give credit where credit it due. My clan leader has had it for a while. My clan recently merged with another clan about a month ago. I asked the new clan leader if he by chance ever gotten any kamael books from Frint or Tezza.
He said he had one. It is Lightning Shock. He linked it and I was very excited. I agree about learning at lvl 83 being better, but, I am sure i will get a lot of mileage out of it until then. I will not be able to grind like this for a long time. I am pretty burnt out at this point. Luckily, the finish line is somewhat close. I give myself 4 to 8 days. Depending on how much energy I can summon up.
As far as Lightning Shock goes, I think it is a short duration para. I do not think it is being change like the traditional para in the next update. Is para really getting a nerf in the next update?
I hear it is being changed to a debuff that eventually para's. But I am not really on top of that change. Someone explain if they have more details thanks.
