Hi guys. My GF started this game with me and she's having a problem deciding the class. She's not huge into MMO's, but she enjoys them so she'll be a casual player. We played FFXI together for a long time and she played a Taru Dark Knight. She liked this character because it was tiny, but got huge weapons and did explosive damage. (I think she likes the irony) In L2, I believe the class she'd like most would be berserker, but unfortunately only males can play it, and she's not having that. She really likes how dwarfs look, but she wants to use big swords, and I don't think that's really what dwarfs are about. I showed her the "Red Wedding" video on youtube, and she loved it. In that video the dwarf is using a 2hd sword though, so I'm not sure what's going on there. I know for a fact she won't want to pole, since we are lvling together and I'm not playing a pole class. So I guess my question is, what are dwarfs mostly about? Can they use any type of weapon. I know they are crafters, but can they hold their own as a DD? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
actually the use of a 2 handed sword aint too bad for a dwarf, especially if it have a focus SA on it.
although, you will only have 1 skill to use with the sword. there is also a few 2 handed focus blunts wich is fairly usefull aswell, as you then also can use stun.
if you just go for the looks, the A grade sword called Dragon slayer just looks awsome with a female dwarf imo.
dwarfs typically use Blunts, althought Swords fit in just fine and the damage is similar. i think she'll really start loving the Pet system when she figures out about the Summonable Golem, and Siege weaponry (which by the way dont EVER show her a video of, you'll never hear the end of how cool siege golem is), and her buffs (after 40 she can cast some buffs as a warsmith) will really help you both out.
they dont typically weild "any" weapon, as much as spam smashing skills with blunts and Swords...
Dwarfs have the highest carry capacity in the game, and a helluvalot of HP.

actually a WS dont level all that slow, with golem up they level as fast as most other meele DDs. problem is you will need to have someone to buff the pet.
i really don't want to glorify WS because it's a dumb move to make one imo but with the right set up a golem spamming WS will out kill alot of the other melee classes and in the right location all the archers as well. throw a pole on a WS and there are only 2 other classes in game that can match their xp
all smart dorfs use a 2 handed sword for single target PVE but it's not so much because they are so good at useing it as they absolutely suck at useing their primary weapon which is a blunt (worst weapon in game)
dorfs suck at PVP compared to nearly all classes and ppl want them around about as much as a plaugue infested rat (PP/SE :P) so if something about them appeals to you i'd advise playing a destro if you like their skills since destros have basically all their skills + some actual good ones, a DA if having summons and beating stuff with a sword is your thing since DA has a better summon more damage and much better defense or a wl or destro if poling is how you want to roll
if you want to play a dorf cause they look cute then you are basically SOL cause yup they are the cutest thing in game :P
me personally i'd advise your GF to go tyrant, gonna be pretty powerful next chron and they do walk around with some pretty huge awesome looking fists
Sadly enough my WS was my first "toon" and it ended up being the lowest level toon i had UNTIL i decided to make a clan with it to just waste all of it's SP. And over time i honestly fell in love with the class. Dwarves are awesome polers and are a necessity to any pole party for their buffs although when poling solo or duo with a healer a destroyer can manage hp and has more useful skills when poling. WS buffs are nice for any party and it's golem does lots of damage (a buffed great wolf would do more damage but solo you can't directly heal a wolf like a golem). I always carry tons of soul ore and Crystals (of all grades) to craft shots when i run out. I love being able to craft shots while I'm still hitting mobs; definitely beats having to go back to town (you can also make money in some parties when other people run out). Warsmiths also look great in all the A grade armors (not sure about appella). In close range combat dwarves can own in pvp, hammer crush has a good stun rate and does a good bit of damage followed by fatal strike which does a lot more damage but like most other melee classes if you are caught off guard by a nuker you are as good as dead like i said dwarves own many low con classes close range. I would suggest exploring you're different options and trying out different classes. If she really likes how cute a female dwarf looks she can go bounty hunter or warsmith (or try both to beging with) and then sub a destroyer if she really likes the 2h swords (I'll admit dwarves with 2h swords look rather boss ^^ IMO). Well that was my 2 cents (on the dwarf race anyways) (dwarf haters go back to the dark elf forum please).
Dwarves are awesome polers
compared to what? the only other pole class a ws is better than is a BH cause they have buffs. you might have seen me around bragging about the awesome xp i get but destro and WL can do much much better and at my main spot it can even be matched by tyrants, tanks, daggers, archers and beated by glads
it's golem does lots of damage
it's the worst summon in game. even with golem/dorf buffs it's stats are worse than the next weakest summon in game - the dark panther and those guys are getting a huge boost next chron
hammer crush has a good stun rate
lowest land rate stun in game excluding armor crush which apears to have equal land rate but with a mental attack component for extra resistability

she should level a Warsmith or a Bounty Hunter , then after level 75 sub a destroyer.
I know couple of people that did this, they hurtz in pvp T_T...

anyways a golem does do quite a bit of damage compared to a WS itself.. WS's are good polers but not the best.. a WS is better than a warlord in that you get masteries for other types of weapons than just a pole and you get many skills for many weapons.. i never said WS was the best class i was only giving info on WS.. I rarely ever find anyone that my hammer crush's stun cant land on but it still doesnt compare to the land rate of sheild stun but shield stun doesn't do damage like hammer crush does. the damage a dwarf gets with its skills are really rather good compared to the patk WS's have. Dwarves are definitely not for everyone but there some select people that will enjoy a dwarf. Most people that have been playing this game for a long time (ie 2+ years) have at one point leveled a dwarf to atleast A grade. for most people a dwarf is a good toom to have but not a good class to have as a main. like i said dwarves arent for everyone.
try not to take this as me criticizing your lvl man but i need to pick apart your post again to try and convince this guy not to play a dorf

high lvl. full buffs. DD build. full element sword golem does less than 10% of the damage of the WS
WS's are good polers but not the best..
again the worst true poler in game apart from BH because they don't have dorf buffs, even some of the classes without pole masteries can do better than dorfs due to self buffs and skills because of the changes to VR as long as it's less than 10 mobs (like chimeras)

all smart high lvl dorfs use a sword for single target and in that case WL has better masteries as well as warcry so they are actually better at single target and aoe
the damage a dwarf gets with its skills are really rather good compared to the patk WS's have
all dorf skills do a fraction of the damage of a crit so once you have some buffs happening you are better off just swinging with the 30-40% crit rate of a sword for max DPS in all cases except oly imo
for most people a dwarf is a good toom to have but not a good class to have as a main.
