As it was they took his side over mine (even though I had been with them 4 times longer than he had and I'm legit), and it's led to him being banned. What a shame... ;)
Also, when they ban someone, do they just shut the account, or ban the IP address? As I know he has a high level SK on another server, and I'd like to think he loses that too (cos you can bet your life he used the same tactics getting that toon levelled).

I dought they ban IP's but I would assume if that other toon was on the same master account it will be gone too. I assume when your banned its everything on that master account.

In my humble opinion THAT is what is wrong with L2. There should be a stigma attached to those caught cheating and we should ALL refuse to play alongside them.

A stigma? Yes. People refuse to play with them? No. In fact, not just no, but Hell no.
In a perfect world players would feel comfortable ostracizing cheaters, but L2 is so far from being perfect that it is irrational for high end PVP clans/alliances to ever try to blow off cheaters. Yes, jokes are still made at the expense of this person or those people but the reality is that a high level with gear and boxed buffers in tow, all of which appeared out of the ether, is an asset that almost any competitive PVP clan can't pass up.
This is the World that NCsoft created. They could have designed any world they wanted with whatever game mechanics they saw fit, but they built this one, and the results we see are a reaction to NCsoft's choices. If the conditions for getting a toon to high level and equipping them were different then we could expect the results to be different...but they aren't.
The game was set up as an almost perfect environment for cheaters in 2004:
- Epic gear that doesn't bind on pick-up
- So much of a grind and such a high death penalty that cheating is seen as a viable option, if not a necessity
- A shockingly mindless grind that it can be automated easily
- A crafting system that could be seen as being simply ludicrous by most MMO players(forget the mats for a second, 60% failure rate?)
- A competitive PVP enviroment where the real market rewards for being on top and cheating to get there are substantial
From a cheaters perspective: what's not to like? I don't bot or Ebay, but then again...I don't matter either. I figured that I couldn't keep up in a legit fashion and I refuse to cheat so the only option is to stay PVE and just have fun being a nobody. It's actually quite nice. :D
I don’t think they should be ostracized. I've known a few players who had accounts banned and then decided to go legit. A few of them stayed legit and a few went back to cheating. :/ But if someone comes back to the game and says they are willing to make the change to continue playing, then they should be welcomed to the awesome world of legit noobiness :) If they don’t want to make the change… Screw em. -.-

What you guys should have done was go down to the beach on an Alt during the last event. It would have opened your eyes seeing who was actually cheating.

"Accepting" the cheater washes away the sin. Particularly when they resume the behaviors.
Vearmina mentions someone who was banned for cheating who went straight--can't say I know anyone like that, but then again with my stance I wouldn't.
In my RL I would not associate with people who demonstrate unacceptable character flaws (beat their wife, steal, use illegal street drugs)--at least not knowingly. If I came to know that they were involved with those things I would move on and not choose to have them around myself and those I care about.
I sort of approach this game the same way. I'd rather play for what fun I can get and lose every day than associate knowingly with cheaters.
Of course it's possible that a playing companion right now could be regularly violating the EULA and that I'm unaware of it.
But if I become aware of it I will report it (them) with no hesitation and ask them to not associate with me anymore--because "winning at all costs" isn't a goal for me. It goes without saying that the CL or us officers would bounce the person immediately (and we have).

It's a nice thought but since I returned to L2 I've tried to be a realist. Hoping beyond hope that the L2 player base "finds religion" after five years is just asking too much. They don't want to and NCsoft has proven itself wholly incapable of forcing them. Nothing said here by you or me will ever get people to stop cheating.
I am the clan leader of Angry Pirates. The above named person went though my academy. He is not longer in our clan. Whereas the toon called Tj was banned for being a bot. I invited a toon name theReturn to my academy he is out and not in it. And IMO there are many a toon out there in many a clan that have had botting in there past. I dont condone it and all of them should be banned.
Don't say shame on AngryPirates for taking in an academy toon. I was just informed of this post. I defend the clan name. Not botters.
First off angry pirates let me in acadmey so i could give clan points...so as far as birds live in the same house..yeah ok. U ppl read a post and only see it as what u see it as. All clans have at least one person who cheats..u can deny it all u want till ur blue in the face but we all know it's true..so that one person who cheat must mean they all cheat? And no my high lvl SK did not get banned it's on a totaly seperate account wich has not been in use for many months in fact over a year. You ppl spend so much time worrying about who ebays and who bots when u should just play the **** game and worry about ur self. For instance it's well known nova and fs cheat...nova **** near admints it...does anyone come on here singling them out? no. But u guys have no problem singling ppl out indivdually. When we have to obide by all these rules and regulations...and u get banned for saying what u say on forums when for all anyone knows coulda just been a sarcastic remark. Yeah deff not cool. Enjoy paying for another character to get leveled and geared. The Chinese economy is suffering pretty bad, if we don't sink money into it rapidly, there might be an all out revolt...and then who will make all those things at Walmart for so cheap!

Funny thing about this whole story is none of u know the whole story..u just see what u read and automatically assume that it is what it is when sometimes things r not always as they seem. Me saying what i said sarcastically was stupid of me but none the less, it was more of a "yeah ok you got me" remark for being blamed of those things. I'm sure they flag the players name and IP if they found out he's has multiple
complaints, in which im sure they will ban his other accounts as well.

and jacent is right, i dont agree with the bind on pick up stuff,
i like the generic armor set-up. but he's right
they make this only the 1 sword / blunt / staff / bow/ is the only good one
what did they expect? they should reinvient there items list, and
make some more weopons/armor with different stats, for all grades.
and there is absolutly no reason they shouldnt up the % of rewards on quests
some of the quests are pretty cool. this mindless grinding crap IS
the one reason we have cheaters, and the one main reason why L2 loses

the crafting system is fine. however i have seen it go horribly wrong.
crafting is a huge part of the way L2 is set up, taking it away would take away
a part of the game.
i think taking out the PvP % drop ruined the game, and the ability to not run trains on groups.
that destroyed a huge portion of what L2 is.

You are walking a fine line here. What you need to understand here is that if you say something or admit to something then you did it and you have to live with your actions. Especially when you come to our official boards.
I'm here for one purpose and one purpose only; to remove the bots, cheaters and account thieves as much as possible.
