Standin in aden browsin forums between grind sprees, I tab back into game and some dude named Jeron is trading me. I cancel, whatever, but then I notice something odd.
The person above PMing me is in my clan, at first glance it appears that she is telling me it's ok to let Jeron see my weapon. She's also standing right beside me in aden. However, the broken english is a bit off so I think it's a joke, I lean over and look at GingerSnaps's screen (she happens to be my wife.) and no such messages originated from her.
Obviously the dude is fiddling packets or sumthin to make it appear that messages are coming from a different name, just something to watch out for. Thought I'd mention it here.

old scam, actually. your clannie wife is Gingersnaps, the PM was sent from Glingersnaps. very common scam, glad you didnt fall for it.
Oh, I actually see it now. Can't believe I didn't notice that. I figured it was that thing I'm not supposed to mention that edits packets xD. Thanks for giving my head a shake folks ^^
I remember years back "a friend of mine " PMed me aswell asking about my weapon.. In the most trashy english i had ever seen. It was already a failed attempt from the start...
We are both dutch :p So yeah... And he (the real one) was actually in group with me and was standing a few feet away. Atleast we had a good laugh :p
It's become a joke with friends. When you're in a clan with another mother tongue and a stupid scammer starts PMing you in English, good fun occurs. So sometimes when a clannie has a nice weapon, we PM him in English to beg for the weapon :p
lol.. I've had the same words before, from myself...!!
Stupidbint was renamed to StupIdbint or something. Laughed so hard when all of a sudden my box started talking to me.
yea it has happened to me to. I started to play along with the scammer and traded the items over to my buffer (he said he wanted to see how he looked like in my equipment on the buffer) and equipet it.
when I asked him how I looked he said something that got cencored and put me and my buffer on the blocklist lol
Yeah this one is old and from time to time has been really funny. My son and I have 4 accountsand 4 computers. We would run 2 each, our main and 1 buffer each. The "4" of us would be standing in hunters waiting for another clan member to get there....I've lost track of how many times one of our own buffers would pm one of us and tell us to let so and so see our wep, but it's ok because that's my (the buffers) alt. I'll give it right back. My son and I play from the same computer room, we would just turn to each other and laugh. Then we would SHOUT at the same time from each of the 4 characters "go away scammer!" at the little dorf standing next to us. Sometimes it almost seemed that they jumped out of their boots as they ran away.
I've had this happen to me as well; I made some fun out of it and traded with the scammer showed my weapon to get them excited then cancelled the trade after a minute :P

had this happen to me a few times. Once some guy was just trying to scam my angel slayer with the same tactic, i opened the trade window, put it in and went afk for a few hours. came back, guy was still there with the window open.
First of all, that is the old scam 101 in lineage. Many clannies fell for it back in the days and got scammed in that way. I always say in clan chat - "I've never ever going to ask you for your weapon, and If I do, I am going to use my main toon and it is going to be in the clan hall with my main and not an alt". Still, new people that got in the clan fell for it.
Thanks God, the introduction of augments kinda stopped this old scams and this is not effective any more. Still, I had a new clannie that said to me in clan chat... "hey 'bro I am going to remove the augment from my lance and give it to you in 3 min". I was like,,, you doing what again?.. he is like,, you pm'ed me saying if I can borrow my lance... I told him,, I did not do that. .. later he found out someone copied my name and replace the O with 0 (zero) instead. I am sure if augments won't be in the game he will be "another that bites the dust".
Yea, haha I've actually been around far too long to fall for something so simple really, quite ashamed.
I looked at it and when I didn't immediately notice a difference in spelling, instead of taking a closer look I just assumed someone found some way to imitate other names.
Guess I have packet hax paranoia after I saw what some ppl could do in a private server I played once.
A case of assuming everyone's getting smarter and forgetting about old stuff xD, ah well, maybe I'm just gettin old. :(
Way back in the old days before they changed the fonts it was harder to tell...because the font for I was exactly the same as an l and so the pm'd scammer names in most cases actually looked exactly like the real owner...the only way we could tell back then was to manually retype the real players name and send them a pm asking if it was really them....check this out and tell me which is the real player...:) My wife and I made two of them and I think it was loIailo and lolaiIo..the original was of course lolailo (he was a friend, wasnt trying to scam him ;p )
