Archer

Elf Classes Started Last reply 15 posts
Just noticed that there isn't anyone talking about Elf archers? Wonder why that is? I play one but because im a newbie (only level 24) dont know much about them. I saw an old thread somewhere that compared HE/PR/elf archer and would like to know if its true that without taking life points into consideration and instead going by pure damage, HE is average dmg/average crit, PR is high dmg/low crit ? , elf archer is low dmg/high crit ?
Any thoughts regarding the elf archers? I realise that kiting becomes more and more important the higher level you get and that they level faster solo than tanks for example, but thats common for any archer. Instead I would like to know how elf archers compare to human ones or dark-elves and purhaps against other classes.

erm, how good your class is doing against another is all about skills (yours and these your opponent possess) imho.. I prefer elf as an archer because logically elf should > all on that class :D the only thing that bothers me with SR is the absence of "sacrifice hp for mp" skill :)

in other words pr he sr are having - dead eye, snipe, burst shot - it is up to you to decide your archer style ;)

P.S. I hate human classes :D
human fighter = 40str+43con+30dex=113 points
elf fighter = 36str+36con+35dex=107 points

in the 3 vital stats for fighters, giving HE a 6 stat point boost from the start. Top that off with skill diferances:

HE:
Pain of Sag
Hawkeye
Snipe
dash
relax (toggle)
vital force (passive while sitting)
Quiver of Holding (passive)
Boost atk speed (passive)
Critical damage (passive)

vs

SR:
Charm
Cure bleeding
elemental heal
poison recovery
entangle
rapid fire
self-buffs might/shield/magicshield/windwalk

with a lowbie buffer, SR is left with 1 skill that effects their damage output (rapid fire) and no carry capcity boost or way to regain their MP, entangle and charm are both SP sink skills that most don't learn, and their other abilities (poison recovery, cure bleeding, elemental heal) are high MP cost on an already MP strapped char and can be repaced with cheap consumables which gives them 5 useless skills, vs HE with hawkeye and snipe buffs that both increase dmg output and stack with other buffs, passive atk speed & crit dmg, pain of sag to convert HP to MP and quiver of holding to increase carry capacity. Vital force and relax are both useless SP sinks though, giving them 2 useless skills.

that is why you don't see much about elf archers here (and why I rerolled mine to HE)... compare to HE they are ******ed weak. Only real benifit to them, is they look a hell of a lot better than the ugly human models.
Being my main a 76 SR (MS), I wish I had something more to say in defense of elven archers, but I havent really played main in a loooon time...

just fyi... cure bleed/poison become important in pve at higher levels.. a pot wont cure poison/bleed above lvl 7, whilst skills will cure lvl 9.. so if you're exping in woa on banders, get bleeded and get more than a couple on you, then you will love having those skills...

also, SR are much easier to lvl solo (and that is SOLO, ie. not boxing) because of their self bufs, you get might, def, magic def, ww, rapid shot and blessed soul, all of which help when you have no buffers with you..

as for the mp, if you go for a wpn with cheap shot (the pve or carebear setup ppl would say), I'd say you'll never really worry about the mp.. I only had a pp following me most of the times when playing my sr and never really felt the need for pain of saggi... this only becomes a necesity in pvp imo, but then again, depending on the situation, i'd say you wont miss it there either...

and as a final note.. i think the strength of the SR really shines when in small exp groups... a tank or SwS, SR, PP group could be really profitable.. at low levels you can keep a room in catas clear really easily... at higher lvls, and as long as you got a good buffer, you shouldnt have any problems dealing with mobs 1x or 2x.. even 3x and 4x depending on your wpn...

and YES, as an archer, your life will always depend on your kitting skills

have fun :D
ya, when I realized I didn't have self-buffs anymore, I started leveling a buffalo :P now i have buffs again solo (and a hell of a healer)...

if I come off as waving a SR sux flag and u get offended, I'm sorry :| I was kinda ****** when I found out elf isn't best archer, after I had rolled one and lvled it a bit asumine elf = best archer... now lvling HE, it is much better. Not to mention when I get to 75 finally, I'll be able to sub BD if I want :P

there were no noob buffs nor buffalos when i started leving my SR.. and by the time I reached 60+ I started a pp on a second acct xD... and a SwS also provides loads of fun, specially since, for each high lvl party, the odds of having sws's fighting for spots is much lower than as a bd :D

hehehe
hehe same... i made my SR in beta, I never really played much Lin2 tho, liked Lin1 more, i played it off and on though month or two here or there, when I was bored of Lin1, and got to lv60 before there were noob buffs...

and ya, if I ever get main char lvl nuf to sub I wanna sub a party char, either BD, SWS or spoiler... sux to have options cut before you even get to lvl to chose though, just cause you play a elf :P there are plenty of other options that are good though, so its not a major drawback.
justa quick one one this save opening a new post any idea on tats for a LE archer was thinking +5 str,+4 dex and -9 con any other ideas?
so SR sucks

/confirm?

nah,..lol.

i really love my SR. And i think they crit more then any other archer. can anyone confirm that??
Forget what you've heard about strengths & weaknesses between the three archer classes, that is dated information that belongs in Chronicle 1. There is only ONE Archer in this game with all the strengths (for pvp) and that is Hawkeye. With the improved timer on skills, HE's dash got even better. And now that you can cancel buff status, snipe got even better, hit snipe, attack until enemies get close, cancel snipe, kite.

The only reason to choose another archer would be based on looks alone.

I don't think you'd wanna go -9con on a SR... their carry capacity is already a small issue... when I was playing SR still I had +4str -4con only, and could only carry nuf shots & arrows for about a hour or so (with majestic set bonus included)... dunno if you'd have enough HP to solo anywhere with -9con either, would drop HP to low to take a crit from a same level mob and live.

Ironically, on HE I went +4str +5dex -9con, which made the total stat diferance from my SR with tats on it listed above +4str 0dex +2con.

most archers will have capped crit rate with full buffs anyways only rl good thing i guess is their evasion
I have played Hawkeye and Silver Ranger and I liked the Silver Ranger better. I am not saying thats it a better class then the Hawkeye but I just enjoyed playing it more.
Well, HE and PR do have more battle skills, but SR is a lot faster runner. I mean, no one stands right up against each other and shoots... It is more about how quick you are and how good your bow is. If things go wrong, you basically can just run away and recover. By the way, PRs are the easiest class to stun since they have the lowest CON...
