Buff cancels

I know you guys get tired of stupid questions but I have been away from the game for about 1.5 years and am re-learning my 64 WC. I am confused when it comes to Earth Chant and War Chant. No matter which one I cast first, the second one cancels the first. One is p-atk and the other p-def so I don't understand why? Are there other buffs that cancel out another that I should know about?

Earth Chant and War Chant cannot work together, like Greater Might and Greater Shield.

War- and Earth-chant overwrite eachother. The usual way is: meleegrps prefere warchant for more p attk, pole- and castergrps (AOE) get earthchant for better p def. If you are unsure in a grp, just ask what the others want.
