Shield

Dwarf Classes Started Last reply 38 posts
I just bought a set of equipment for my level 13 dwarf and I purchased a shield yet his p.def didn't increase. I don't see any block skill anywhere so I'm not sure why his p.def didn't increase. I tried to equip a shield with my kamael and it wouldn't even let him put it on so I'm assuming he's allowed to use a shield. Is there a specific level I'm supposed to wait for to use a shield as a dwarf or am I supposed to wield a 2 handed weapon? Thanks in advance.
you only get the shields pdef when you do a shield block, you have like 1/5 chance to block an attack, although on critical hits its alot higher.

also the shields pdef is never shown on your stats page.
thanks I saw that it took my evasion down and I didn't want to use the shield if nothing useful was actually coming out of it

that's why I'm using 2 handed blunt with +4evasion on it (from Augment). I don't trust shields :p
i wouldn't put a shield on a dorf until you start PVPing which should be about lvl 80 or preferably never and i'd suggest you look into getting a 2 handed sword instead

couldn't resist not to post, soz. But this post got me ROLLING!!!!!!!! +1!!!!!!!!!!!

too bad that for the most part a dwarf evasion is too low to be of any real use :(
i kinda have fun going into arena with maj light and hard tanning and full evasion buffs and having lowbies trying to hit me.... prolly wouldn't work so good in the real world
I can't afford a 2 handed weapon. I have a recipe for a Brandish but I can't afford to buy the iron to produce it and its worse than the 1h shadow weapon I'm using at level 20.

On a side note is there anywhere that I can find out where I should be pricing the meager stuff I have to sell? I have a couple of brandish recipes 41 antidote and blah blah blah or should I just farm wolf collars to sell?

omg, m8! What server are you on? I'm gonna spare you like 50mil if you are on Devianne.

Nothing below top B grade is worth crafting in the current state of the game except shots. Just sell the recipes and keymats (but NOT iron, bone, varnish etc) to the NPC.

Go to Giran and look around the player shops or google "l2" and "warehouse".

At your level I suggest you do low manor, the wolf collars, the shot market (slow) and maybe sell D crystals by crushing items from the NPC (needs some careful checking).
whats low manors?

My next round of questions. My Artisan has a wolf should I keep the wolf, go with the servitor I can summon or get a baby buffalo?

I'm also going to make a scavenger for the higher level spoil should I continue with the blunt or switch to polearm? Should I get a wolf, or a baby buffalo with him as well.

Sadly enough I'm on the Luna server but I'm not quite as poor since I started farming wolf collars. I'm still using the shadow weapon but I'm outfitted in the best d grade armor I could buy at the armory.
I'd suggest you keep and LVL with the wolf ONLY. It's gonna be amazing. Go with blunt, not Pole (unless you are in the AOE party it's useless).
P.S. How's Luna doing? ^^

If you plan to go totally solo up to level 70, you should get a buffalo because after 62 there are no more newbie buffs.

If you have a clan, a friendly group or at least a boxed SE and you don't have 150m adena, you should stay with the golem because it doubles your dps.

If you have clan/group/box and you also have 150m adena to spare for wolf gear, go with the wolf because it is better than the golem.

You can only have one pet out at a time.

Polearm is for poling, which means you need a group to buff/heal you.

I think buffalo would help you in the long run, although I prefer a chicken to recharge my BH when I venture out with my newbie buffs.

Note that you can share stuff (like pets) between your characters using the freight system at the warehouse, so don't get a duplicate :)

You should get weapon first, at least after the shadow weapons are gone.

Use common in D grade is more than enough.
I bought my wolf the best weapon and his damage is nasty but he's a glass cannon. I t hought about buying the best wolf armor as well but it only gives an additional 21 to defense and I didn't think it would be worth it.

I got the seeds in gludio been planting and harvesting while I was doing a quest but I can't get the idiot to buy them back guess I need to do more research.

I'm kinda glad shield and blunt work well. I've left town without buffs a few times and didn't have any issue and I'm sure with my pets wicked dmg once he can take a hit or two it will be great.
problem with selling back is that its usually camped by bots.

you need to be there the moment it resets (new seeds can be bought and crop sold), if i recall correct its about same time as oly starts. i might be wrong though, been some time since i did manor myself.

almost impossible to achieve... :/
I bought a Titans hammer for my dwarf last night because I figured as in most games that a 2 handed weapon would do more dmg. In the end it ultimately didn't so I'm wondering is there any reason to ever move away from 1h blunt and shield?
You should move away from any blunt actually, just use a 1h or 2h sword, and go crit some mobs.
A couple of days ago I was doing a kama and I was using a +6 sword that a individual from my clan gave me and the guy I was in the kama told me it would be better if I was using a blunt for overhit. That was the main reason that I went back and bought a 2h hammer although now I see how much of a waste it was. Thankfully it was a common hammer I bought. Perhaps I'll use the sword from now when I'm leveling because I do find that my shield does help me a bit in dmg mitigation.
Try not to listen to ppl shouting for overhits in kamas. It really is pointless to try and overhit, the exp is not that much more. Just go kill like 5 mobs around your lvl afterwards and there is no need for the overhit.
yup agree
What they say is true, you will do much more damage in the long run using a sword (especially with focus SA) than you will with a blunt. Once you are 40 you get a skill called fatal strike which can be used with either swords or blunts that's not bad for damage also.

Until your B grade, stick with common weapons, armor, and jewels for sure. There's no need for full out gear until then...the one exception being maybe a beserker blade with focus SA if your really really must have the extra damage.

Also, your lowbie wolf is better left just following you and not attacking anything until it's evolved. You already saw it's a glass cannon, that won't change until it evolves at lvl55 regardless of what kinda gear you get for it. Save your money and just let it leech xp with you until it's 55 and can safely contribute.

The buffalo is another option mentioned you might wanna give a second thought about. Once it evolves it begins learning buffs and heals to provide you. By the time it's lvl70, it will give you Bless Body, VR, focus, haste, deathwhisper, might, shield, and guidance. That will go a long way if you plan on soloing once your noobie buffs run out at lvl63 or so.
Shield is useless, unless you use it for Tank sub
I beg to disagree, shield great for tanking archers stupid enough to hit me first (Luna full of noobs :P)
Also, its awesomely effective against daggers. I once won a PvP with an overequipped dagger bcoz either his stabs failed or i just blocked them for 1 dmg, which doomed him to whack me normally, makin me block quite a number of crits too. Ofc without his stabs he was no match for my CP gulping skills and passed away eventually ^^
I quite like to use a shield too, the difference between 2h and 1h/shield is huge.
Of course if all you kill is light blue / green mobs then you will not notice the shield much, but if you go against yellow / red mobs it will matter a lot.

Weapon wise, it's all based on how you play your char.

If for example you have +4 str, +5 dex, -9 con tatoos then it makes perfect sense to use a blunt with Health SA.

Using a blunt allows one to use the stun skills , which matters a lot when fighting against mages / archers as it interupts them a lot and can save your life many times.
This is from a pve perspective though . How things change in S grade and pvp , I don't know yet :)
dps difference between a 2 hand blunt and 1 hand is about 10%
in pvp you use a 1 hand blunt for faster stuns and throw on a shield because evasion is useless on dorfs so you might as well have one
in PVE you always use a sword and it may as well be a 2 hander since you don't really need a shield for pve
I need more adena on meh pve two-hander T_T
*sigh*
I don't know, 2h sword on a dwarf is just wrong (from a RP perspective ! )
a dwarf can only use blunts , sorry :).
I just don't see Master Gimli waving a huge sword around, it just doesn't work.
building your class around what some moron wrote in a book about made up creatures 50 years ago instead of what is the most effective is so full of fail in a grindfest like L2 it's not even funny

I thought it too...but then I compared DPS and critical rate... and well, blunts just sucks!
With HD [Focus] simple buffs from PP I get 300 critical. I can never achieve that much with blunt. And the p.atack difference is only 200. So...I chose to crit more often....

And as far as I know, a shield can not block dagger's skill, no?

Yes it can.
What is the best element for a HD? I was thinking holy for HB, raid bosses etc.
now that's smth. new....

Are you saying that Lethal blow could be blocked?? Thus, Tanks would /own daggers alot, especially Paladins....

Well dunno about lethal .. I'd say that too, but that's just an assumption on my part. Ordinary stabs can be blocked for sure.
Leathal is a side-effect of the stab skills, and can happen even if you dont actually land the stab. It's called half-kill now though >.<
doesn't really matter until you get above 40. up until then you get a cookie cutter weapon mastery passive, after you get specific weapon masteries. there are plusses and negatives to each one.
pvp blunt is a lot better than sword.
sword all you can do is spam fatal strike and hope you crit a lot (you will probably miss a lot)
blunt-higher land rate, more skills you can use (3 overhit skills-fatal strike/hammer crush/stun- for those of you that care about that), blunt mastery (extra patk), blunt mastery chance skill on crit (half mp use on skills during that time, increased land rate for power attacks)
do not go on aesthetics, go with what works best for you and your play style.
yes, the shields do block quite a bit for either one damage or half damage.
