tyrant or gladiator

i want to play a dd class but i cann't choose between one of them...which will be better in pvp every aspect of it...1vs1 olympiad mass pvp small scale pvp
i say tyrant is more versatile, better dd for pve (gets u to high lvls faster) and more fun to play. Has some really good totems to adapt to different pvp situations.

only advantage glad has is heavy armor masteries, which is a lot - but I wouldn't like playing one personally.
yeah tyrant hands down

I have both, both are good. I play Tyrant as my main simply because Orcs appeal to me. But if the Tyrant class did not exist in this game, I would be just as happy playing a Gladiator.
i want to learn how good are both in mass pvp before i can decide cause my clan do sieges...
for mass pvp go mage/archer..range parties beat melee hands down in mass pvp...

i'm 79 GK...love my toon ...tho hate getting shafted by daggers in oly hehe:eek:
Tyrant is everything glad is but better. More versatility, stun and cripple. Skills cost less charges. And oh, yes glad has heavy armor masteries but tyrant has ogre spirit. :P

Don't forget the completely hax PvP bonus on fist weapons too. :p
Storm Screamer
I"d go for glady.
Who does more dps for pvp a Tyrant or Titan?
tyrant definately.

But hey, isn't this thread about a Tyrant or Gladiator?
fasty reply , heh. =0 But yes, its about glad & tyrant.
Doombringer / Berzerker; destroys in 1v1, you have 30s pdef UD, 10s mdef UD, hex debuff (Violent Temper reduces pdef AND cast speed), for mass pvp has spammable/no reuse aoe Stun + Damage rush (Rush Impact @ level 78) and Mass Disarm (79). Before those levels, you have spammable AOE damage rush (Storm Assault), AOE bleed rush (Blade Rush), as well as regular Disarm with 8 second reuse - disarm one person rush to the next. Plus two other aoe attacks. But of course, I'm biased !

If you must, Tyrant > Glad imo
they are remarkably similar in playstyle, and both very strong, but the totems can really change things up.

Titan will hit hard too, but it's darn slow moving and can be kited easily.

A expert Tyrant player would rock any Kamael.
it's possible, but I haven't met them so far
I've seen a GK melee down a DoomBringer in seconds while in UD. I then went on to beat that GK with a Soul Hound. Go figure...
On topic: Tyrant all the way. Gladdie is cool to but a fully kitted out GK (pvp cancel fists, Attrbute skill oe etc.) is probably the only toon in the game that will let you feel like a raid boss...

yeah... I'd go for glady (as I said before) only to pre-79 lvl. Cause after 80+ Tyrant will own well... I'd say everything and everyone. And, plz explain me, how come the daggers can EVER kill tyrants? With Tyrants great skills and tons of hp (16k only HP) and lots of wonderful totems?

hmmmmmm

I can even assume, that a well played tyrant can own nukers. No?

Because the tyrant doesn't know how to play. A good tyrant would probably kill a dagger with full hp or little hp gone. I don't think its much they can do against a good tyrant player. However a bad tyrant player would probably get owned. Its not a newbie friendly class and isn't the kind that relies on spamming a few skills to win. It takes a lot of technique and decision making to win. And I don't see why you would choose a glad over tyrant. Not even to pre 79. Glad has NOTHING on tyrant. I don't see why the class even exists, since ncsoft never boosts them to be equal to tyrant. Maybe they exist for TSS. :P

DPS in PvP is not important. Spike damage is.
DPS you can heal through, Spike damage you can't, or at least its much much harder.
Spike damage is called burst DPS.

So which does the best Burst DPS, and which does the best Sustained DPS?

Both of these classes can rely somewhat on their sustained DPS due to their surviveability (HP+CP and other things) especially when Pots and Elixirs are involved.

Both of these classes are somewhat flexible, if not somewhat situational in some sense...
Spike damage is called burst DPS.wut..?

That's contradicting itself. DPS is a measurement of average damage over time, exact opposite of what burst means.

Might be what you call it. But it's a self contradicting term.

trust me when i say daggers can and do beat GK..
been playing my GK for 5yrs now and know how to pvp..love pvping.
even with my ns2te setup for cp/ghp i've been 2 shotted against daggers!

lvl'd a glad to 66 but just didnt like the playing style..just my opinion:rolleyes:

I don't wanna trust this. It's just impossible to do with powerful skills you have. (I mean to lose to a dagger). I can't imagine that.

No, it's not self-contradicting. Only in some other world.

Quite explaination:

Nukers is nuking something over a 2 minute session, and its DPS is 2500.

Nuker is nuking something over a 2 minute session, and pops enlightenment. It's DPS is 3500 DPS, however, for 20 Seconds within that 2 Minutes it's Burst DPS (i.e. DPS during a portion of the total time span) was 5400 due to Enlightenment.

DPS is a measurement of damage over a length of time. Sustained DPS is the average of the entire time span (which is long). Burst DPS is how high the DPS can spike in shorter time spans within the larger time span.

[-----------[Enlightenment]--------------------------]
..Sustained..****Burst****.................Sustain ed.......

Like that.

Or do you never actually hit the autoattack button on those classes (Tyrant/Destroyer) whilst critting at 100% rate? I know a dagger who plays like that. One time I killed it with like 300 HP left because he didn't do anything but wait for skills to refresh.

If you want to kill something that's not in A grade with decent buffs and a competent healer you need to spike it in 1 or 2 seconds, 20 seconds? You SoE in less time than that, just to give you a indication of how long that is.

Example:
1 "machinegun" nuker nuking every 1 second for 2000 damage, does 2000 DPS
10 "rocket launcher" nukers nuking together every 10 seconds for 2000 Damage is also 2000 DPS, yet what do you think will actually kill anything with a healer?

If you want to kill something you have to spike them down, steadily wearing them down is just dumb, but that's what DPS means, it's an average, and thats the entire problem, Average is useless. You need the spike, be it Mcrits, fast skill chaining, whatever. DPS does not kill anything till it's healer is out of mana and the target is out of CP pots.

When you use DPS in a short term, 1-5 seconds, it loses it's meaning. Yet that is what you need to kill someone, if you take longer than that, well, you aren't going to kill them in the next 5 either.

This is the entire Reason crits are the bread and butter of PvP, averages doesn't matter, only the top 5% of the damage spectrum matters if you plan on killing.
How is it fail?

When you use DPS in short term, it doesn't lost it's meaning.

DPS is damage per second, it can be 2 seconds, or 50 seconds.

What is so hard to understand?

Spike Damage is Burst DPS. It's called BURST DPS for a reason, cause it's not predictable and it's exceedinly higher than the character's sustained DPS [burst DPS spikes are always higher than sustained DPS]. Just cause you can burst up to 5400 DPS doesn't mean you have a 5400 DPS machine character.

The fact that a character's sustained DPS may not be able to kill a healer (lol, terrible example BTW, but whatever) doesn't mean that their BURST DPS isn't a component of their sustained DPS. I've outlived many damage spikes thanks to pots and Elixirs, and damage spiking skills like Backstab are non-factor when the character's skills are blocked (Doom, or Silence on a Kamael Character). How then, are you supposed to win the fight? I don't understand this one-sided view of things, and I'm wondering why you feel the need to debate it. I just gave you some useful information and asked you to explain it to the poster so he can have a more thorough review of what you thought about the classes - with that in mind.

Like I said, Player Characters are a terrible example because you can always use a horrible example like a healer that can get 1 shotted by a Dagger, and most of them generally have low sirviveability vs. lots of DD classes anyways (i.e. most Mystic Classes and some light armor classes). Put the dagger/archer on a tank and their sustained DPS and other qualities become a lot more important should they desire to win the fight.

Archers and nukers are king at seiges because of their range and high sustained DPS. They do not rely on high damage skills to land, they point and shoot - archers have reliable crit rates at end game. Most people assist in PvP, so you don't need to have the best sustained DPS. The Bishop may be able to outheal 2k DPS, but 6-7k? I dunno.

I have had many fights that lasted upwards of 30+ seconds. Fights can easily last long when you factor in debuffs, kite tactics, stun, pots, elixirs, and support in very small fights. Not all people stand in one spot and mash buttons.

Fail, indeed.
i would probably pick the gladiator over the tyrant. i dont have a gladiator but i do have a tyrant. i like it because of the race, if gladiator was one of orc's classes, id be just that.

i am trying to get to 75 fast so i can sub gladiator.

PS-idk but i think glad's long range attacks are more powerful. n they have more long range skills than gk right or no?
Stop necroposting.
In other words play them both and see for yourself. Or watch some vids from both classes.
GLADI>tyrant for pvp in oly...i've never seen a GK that has same equipment with the duelist to beat him in oly...duelist's AOE and TSS is very much powerfull and heavy armor helps...i have main 82+ duelist and this is my opinion...
With Tyrants great skills and tons of hp (16k only HP)

http://i416.photobucket.com/albums/pp247/squeakyBOOTS/cphpmp.jpg

w/ imp condition i get to about 4200 mp

tyrant has nice versatility due to totems, and it's stun you don't need to switch to a blunt like w/ a duelist. TBH +30 duelist spirit + final secret = pro

end game duelist is a monster for sieges/mass pvp
end game glad owns..
but tyrant is the only class that can make u feel like an RB....
